However, it's a mom and pop shop that uses insanely fresh ingredients, with a chef who knows how to grill the most flavorful juiciest kabab in the world. Anash will stop what he's doing and answer questions when he can. He has remembered some of the quirks of my orders And whether it's ordering a ton of food for an impromptu dinner with my in laws or a getting a microwaveable meal for lunch, I've been nothing but happy. My husband and I are obsessed with this place. Our two year old girl is, too! The first thing to note is that the owner is one of the most hardworking, friendly, eager to please guy you've ever met and I am happy to support his wonderful business. The food is just so fresh and flavorful. My go to order is the tofu kabob which is served with the most fluffy, tender yellow rice. The rice is so good I scrape up every last bit! The pickled veggies and grilled tomato really round out the meal. The portions here are really generous so I usually always have leftovers and enough to share with my toddler. I love the Turkish tea here and the deserts, especially the baklava. Just so so yummy. Last time we got a semolina pudding which was to die for. The owner recently started his frozen meals to go side venture. We decided to grab a few the last time we were in and were not disappointed. There is a tofu and rice one similar to what I usually order. Had it for lunch at work the other day and LOVED it. My only feedback would be to include some of his yummy vegetables somehow. So happy we tried this place! The chicken and beef kabobs are so tender and flavorful. The entrees come with buttery rice and a roasted tomato which are very complimentary. The staff checked in on us after we ate some of our meal (I believe it was the chef) and did so with every other table too to ensure everyone was enjoying the food. Slightly overpriced for the meat serving amount. The kebabs could have been more tender and less dry. The rice serving was overly generous so if you are not a big rice fan - skip this cause they will give you a LOT! Personally, I love rice so I was not disappointed. Service was pleasant but nothing outstanding comes to mind. The kebabs are made to order so call ahead or be prepared to wait a long time for the meal. I did not plan ahead so I had to hang out for 25 minutes for my order to be prepared. That being said, the meat was still rather dry and over cooked when I had asked for medium rare I was surprised to get it well done. The grill tomato and peppers made a nice visual but also hid the fact you know had two smaller sized kebabs. The refrigerated take home dishes were a nice option. Nothing over the top or memory making comes to mind when looking back in those visit. I have been to thousands of restaurants all over the planet and this one falls into a very average experience. This place is amazing for so many reasons! I tried this place because I read all the great reviews. When I walked in I was greeted by the owner, who took my order, made my order and served our table. He even took the time to talk with us and shared a little bit of his story on how they came to open this place. We felt so welcomed. Which is just not something you typically experience in a restaurant. As far as the food goes, wow! Fresh, cooked right there as you order it. Not frozen and thrown on some grill to heat it, it was fresh! I ordered the chicken and meat kabob and it was amazing! Chicken was well marinated and flavorful. And the rice? Super good! They have good fries too! In reading the reviews I saw so much said about the Persian tea so I tried it. I'm so glad I did! I would go back just for the tea! Everything was amazing. When I visit a restaurant, I only go for one and one thing only: food. Today my student and I met at this Mediterranean place- both our first time- to eat and reconnect. I got here ahead of time and Arash, a kindred spirit, asked me if I'm Filipino. Long story short, the food was excellent (my student inhaled the lamb dish in under 5 minutes- his first taste of lamb). My chicken dish was sumptuous. I ordered the beef barg, and the wife ordered lamb yogurt. The employee was very welcoming, and excited to hear it was our first time. He offered us Persian tea, which I otherwise wouldn't have ordered, and I am happy they offered because it was awesome. I cannot tell you how much I love Just Kabab. Grilled meat, well seasoned, tender and juicy, and filling portions. I would eat here every day if I could. Well, at least four days a week. It's simple inside - generally quiet and very clean. We've only ever gotten take out, but I've ordered a tea and just hung while I waited for my food to be made. It's really chill inside. The owners are super friendly. They've always taken amazing care of us - separating out foods for our family members with allergies or making sure that i get out the door without dropping anything. Called in for carryout, we were desperate for a dinner with some flavor to it that was close by. We were told 35-40 minutes before it would be ready, and it was waiting for me when I walked in the door. I had the Lamb Sheshlik, my wife had the Beef Kubideh, and we shared an order of the Babaganoosh. The Baba was wonderful, nice and rich and creamy. My lamb was excellent, and my wife enjoyed her Kubideh, though she would have liked a little more flavor. The portions were very generous, especially the rice, which neither of us could finish though it was very good. Overall, a MUCH better experience than the last time. The reviews are spot on for this place. Food is absolutely delicious and the staff does an incredible job making everyone feel welcome. The kebabs are prepared fresh on the grill so there is a few minutes of waiting but it is absolutely worth it. Food tastes fresh and the meat is cooked perfectly. Our first visit we had the Lamb Afrique Kabab with Mezze Platter. The lamb was spicy and wonderful and the falafel, tabouleh and dolmas were tasty. Definitely the best lamb we have ever had. We have also ordered the chicken yogurt and ground beef kebab. Both delicious and great for first time visitors. Soooo happy I found this place! Owners are Iranian so they know how to cook lamb beautifully. And omg the desserts!!! Alright, let's start at the top. The lady who helped was genuinely friendly and warm. She was also very patient and described dishes I was unfamiliar with thoroughly. I got the lamb shoulder and the seasonings on it were finger licking good. The lamb was juicy and cooked to a perfect temp. The actual meat you get, because it has the big bones, is a small amount & it's not easy to eat, but when you cast aside your dignity and go for it, you're rewarded with some delicious morsels. They could definitely benefit from better, sharper knives for this dish because I struggled with cutting my lamb off the bone even though the meat was super tender. There was way too much rice on the plate, which made the lamb look even smaller. BUT the yellow rice was so delicious and cooked so perfectly that I took it home and had enough for 2 more meals so I feel like that con turned into a pro! There was also a roasted tomato, which was okay but the pickled asssorted veggies were stellar. All in all a fabulous meal; they just need to portion it out a little better and give you the right utensils for the job! I love Middle Eastern desserts so much and after having attempted to make them, I appreciate those who can make them even more and these folks have some of the best tasting ones! I ate the Kanafeh and it was so amazing that I am literally tearing up just remembering it. Man, it was so so so so good. The owner said he makes his own sweet cheese because the one he can buy isn't to up to his standards and that right there tells me everything about why their stuff is delicious. That love of sharing your country's cuisine and the pride that comes along with that responsibility is evident in this family's restaurant; from the service to the food, they welcome you and then treat you like family, serving you the best food and going out of their way to make sure you're happy. Oh and I forgot to mention two things: I was surprised they had crème caramel on their menu because it's not something I associated with Persian food but the chef explained why it was on there and it made perfect sense and their version is so creamy and smooth and perfect that even if it made no sense, I'd still want it on the menu. Awesome lunch, we stopped by after a hike at the nearby Linda Vista Loop Trail and split two dishes, a yogurt lamb kabob (tender and nice char flavor) and the Fesenjan, a chicken stew made with ground walnuts and pomegranate, which was very unique with creaminess coupled with a bit of sweet/ sourness from the pomegranate. Would definitely come back any time I was in the area. We took half of what we had home and unfortunately did not have room for the deserts which go beyond the classic baklava. Not only do they have outstanding and authentic food but they were truly nice people. The pandemic was in full swing and they were only doing take out. I drove there from Red Rock and when I went to pay I realized that I had forgotten my wallet. This incredibly nice owner said that's ok I could bring it back later. So I drove home ate my meal and drove right back to the restaurant. When I went to pay him he asked me where I lived when I said Red Rock he said that's a long drive you could have come back tomorrow. It is a long drive and worth every mile I have to to travel. Just Kabab is turning out to be a great, casual kabob house. Glad they opened in Oro Valley. Yelp! says I've already checked in 6 times in the past few weeks. There's a lot to try. Arash, the owner, came here from Dubai where he learned a range of middle eastern cuisines. The menu is a fusion of the region, but each dish prepared in its authentic style. It reminds me a lot of the kabob houses I've eaten at in London. One of his team is a refugee from Aleppo, Syria who recently settled in Tucson. I love to watch the guy prepare kabobs. He has it down to an art. Some notes on what I've tried so far... Kabobs are served in the traditional style, a skewer of meat, always grilled to order, accompanied by fluffy basmati rice topped with saffron, a grilled tomato, and pickled vegetables. If you're hungry, you can add an additional skewer to your plate. Actually very reasonable for what you get. Besides the saffron rice, Just Kabab also offers Baghala Polo, dill rice with fava beans, and Zeresh Polo, rice with saffron and barberry. The daily selection of kabobs is presented in a glass display case by the grill. Beef koobideh is a skewer of seasoned ground meat. Probably the best seller, and for good reason. Of the three varieties of chicken kabob, I think the saffron chicken is the most succulent. If you like lamb, go for the lamb shashlik kabob. For a vegetarian choice, or appetizer, try the falafel. They make it from scratch and fry it to order. It's great in a wrap with the naan bread and sesame tahini sauce. The appetizers are also made in house. Hummus is a classic Mediterranean dip of blended chick peas served with bread. Babaganoosh is roasted eggplant with tahini, also served with bread. Tabouleh is fine chopped herbs with tomatoes, onions and bulgur wheat. Just Kabab has a daily selection of sweet pastries, which I usually have with hot Persian tea. read more
