I've tried this place twice in two weeks. First time I only ordered a strawberry and banana smoothie. It was okay, but not great and it was already pre-made and not made fresh. The second time I went in and ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad and got one of the promotional Sesame Street reusable bowls (which is VERY cute!! ) and I like that I can bring it back each time to use and get a small discount. The bowl itself is small but a good portion for a Salad made fresh, which was good. The only downside to this place is how expensive it is. I know everything is inflated but it's a lot to ask to pay for a small Salad. The bread that came with the salad was delicious, to bad it was only worth two bites and very small. Glad I got the cute reusable bowl but not sure how often I'll get to reuse it. The staff was friendly and helpful. I also had a promo for free cookie, but the staff had a hard time redeeming it for me but gave me the small cookie anyway. The Just Salad at 120 S Riverside needs to GET IT TOGETHER. They cannot handle the daily lunch rush. I work in the building and have been ordering online for pick up pretty regularly since it opened. And every day it is the same absolute cluster. Today I ordered a salad for 12:25 pick up, got tied up at my desk so I didn't head down until 12:40. Per usual my salad was not ready and there were over 20 people waiting for pick up orders. I waited 15 min before asking someone because my salad was now 30 min beyond the pickup time. Another 10 min goes by while I watch them hand out multiple orders before they finally hand me mine. This happens EVERY SINGLE DAY. I got up to my office and my salad was horrible - heavy on the kale, barely any dressing, only 2 pieces of chicken and an insane amount of pickled red onions. So disappointing. The lunch rush is not a surprise. Figure it out please! read more

I placed an order for a few of my colleagues and unfortunately from the service to the food, we were not pleased. Not only did we spend $52 for (3) salads, but my friend also gets harassed about not "selecting" bread options and not selecting "utensils". When she returned to our workplace, 2 orders of bread were missing, the dressing was mediocre. The staff did not seem helpful and the quality of food is not the best. Very disappointing. Also they have a great selection of warm bowls. However, I would look online for their menus. It seems that it's hard to see some of the menu items because they are on two sides of the store (some items on one side and others on another side). It seems like a goofy setup. This review is for the Just Salad at 120 S Riverside Plaza. I've been to other locations in the city and haven't been disappointed. Unfortunately, this location has very poor customer service. My salad was not ready for pickup at the requested time. Many orders that were requested at a later time were ready and waiting. Come to find out that they fill the orders as they receive the orders. Not good , especially if you're preplanning your lunch. Good luck enjoying a salad that's been sitting there for a couple of hours. My salad was finally ready and they forgot the dressing on the side. The salad was made wrong- some things I didn't order were in it, and things I ordered were not in it. When I brought it back I was met with an angry manager and a worker who wasn't quite willing to accept that they screwed up my order. Honestly, I like the food here. I really do. The workers at every spot are extremely friendly. There are lots of options to choose from, they offer caloric info, and there are many locations in downtown Chicago. My issue is they have made MANY changes, and pretty much all of them have not been for the better. For starters, they stopped chopping the salads a while ago and when that happened, I started coming a LOT less frequently. It's hard to eat and cut up the full bowl yourself. That small offer is what made Just Salad unique, but for whatever reason they decided to stop cutting the salads. If that wasn't enough, they actually stopped supplying knives. What?! So not only will they not cut your salads for you, they won't even give you the option to do it yourself? I found this pretty ironic. They even stopped carrying my favorite dressing (buffalo). I'm assuming the next step management will enforce will to be bring your own lettuce. With so many amazing competitive salad places in the loop, Just Salad should be focusing on ways to put them ahead of the pack. I believe they started there, but as of now... not so much. read more

My pickup order is always late and often completely wrong--missing all of the ingredients I chose other than spinach--yet I still had to waste close to an hour recently dealing with hostile employees and had to repeatedly explain the issue and urge them to just open the salad to see it was completely wrong. Then they forgot the dressing so I had to go back again. I've been told by employees at this location that they prepare the order as soon as it comes in instead of by scheduled pickup time, so definitely avoid ordering in advance! Despite the apparent lack of help and huge lines, there's always at least one table full of employees sitting/eating/playing music/watching things on laptops. I started going to Just Salad at 10S riverside since they opened more than a year ago. The place was great and I was there almost every day. However, over time I'm more and more often dissatisfied with my order - either the portion was WAY TOO SMALL or they completely IGNORED my notes via online order. I stopped going there often, but still wanted to give them a chance once in a while. Today I am COMPLETELY shocked on my order. A 13 dollar salad that looks like a half bowl of mixed greens and drenched with dressing even when I said dressing on the side. I remember seeing Just Salads in New York, but I was more interested in trying non-chain places while I was working out there. Now that I'm back home though, I'm more than willing to go for healthier options even if they're found elsewhere. My old work building made great salads, but since I left there I've been looking for a sub. Freshii and Pret are ok, but currently Just Salad is my reigning ruler of the salad work lunch. First of all, I love the reusable bowl idea. Pay $1 upfront for it, but get two extra toppings on each visit. Definitely worth it! All the salads are pretty tasty and they have a huge variety of dressings. Each salad is also personally chopped for you, and everyone knows chopped salads are the best salads. My only real complaint is that this location just isn't suited to the large crowds of the Loop. The line will often snake around, and while ordering online is an option you can't use your reusable bowl. Also the prices are up in the $9-10 range which is a bit high for downtown lunch options. Still, it's great that I can get some food that's good for me and relatively guilt free, especially now that the Taco Bell near here is closed. read more

Overall: this is the type of salad place I love for! Customized ingredients, toppings and dressing. They chop up the salad for you (which is my least favorite part about salads) so I mm a happy camper! If I want quinoa or brown rice added or some extra celery, I can get it every time for free. You can't beat that! Smoothies are only $5.99 which is a steal even in the loop! I'm not sure where the actual manager was (possibly in the back or doing inventory), but some of the staff had visitors that were interfering with customer service while they were in the establishment. I started frequenting this location two months ago when I realized I had a lot of food allergies and salad was the only thing I could basically eat that wouldn't make me feel awful. I order the same salad every single day. They have recently started making my salads wrong by substituting romaine lettuce for kale or drenching my salad with dressing when I asked for dressing on the side. I just finished eating here after the grand opening and had a good experience. Taste: great! I got the Smokehouse Steak salad. The steak was nice and the portion was filling. My only complaint is that the jalapenos were INCREDIBLY strong, and chopping the salad means everything tasted like them. My mouth is absolutely burning and my nose is running, so I wasn't able to finish more than half of the salad. . At least they're fresh. Price: pretty high. My salad would have come out to $12 with tax without the dollar promo. This is a limiting factor for me. Ambience: very small, but clean and well-maintained. Definitely designed for grab-and-go. I frequently order from Just Salad for lunch as I work nearby. Whether ordering in person or online, my orders are often incorrect, although ordering in person is easier to fix of course. Today I ordered my usual, Buffalo Chicken Salad, online. I selected tofu as my protein, assuming that doing so would indicate I wanted that as my protein instead of chicken. Usually, to be safe, I also write in the special instructions section that I'm a vegetarian and want to substitute the tofu for the chicken, but in this instance, I did not. Instead, I left a lengthy complaint about how the last time I ordered this salad, most of the ingredients, except for the tofu, were incorrect, and I asked that I please get the right ingredients for a salad that costs $10 or more. Instead, I got a salad with chicken and tofu mixed together. I called customer service and asked for a refund, and was told they couldn't give me one in this instance because I didn't specify that I wanted the tofu instead of the chicken, despite having selected tofu as my protein, but they would give me a coupon to cover the cost of a future salad. To that end, Just Salad should work on the user friendliness/experience of their online ordering system and use terminology that specifies you'd like one protein selection to substitute another or to be added to another. The current system seems open to misinterpretation, as is what happened with my order. When I expressed annoyance that she would not give me a refund for a $12 salad that I can't eat, she apologized. She then went on to observe that I am a frequent customer and that I usually do specify in the special instructions area that I want tofu substituted for chicken. I responded that I would no longer be a customer at all. Shame on you, Just Salad. You not only took notice of the fact that I buy from you frequently, but you made no attempt whatsoever to retain my customer loyalty other than to offer me a coupon? I work in an organization that provides customer service to a paying membership, and this poor level of service would never be tolerated. Do better. read more

I was extremely surprised when the employee who was preparing my salad was asking about dressing before he went to chop the salad. I asked him "Can you chop the salad for me?" He then responded by saying "We no longer chop salads at this location". Thinking to myself about how strange that was the employee then pulled out a large piece of lettuce and asked me if I wanted that in my salad. No I replied, "I do not want that huge leaf in my salad". I was also confused when I went to pay and it was the same price for it not to be chopped. I honestly have a tough time to review this place since the salads are good. In fact they are really good, but the problem is the price and crowds. Normally the food takes up most of my review, but the pricing is a serious issue in my view. No offense to people who love this place, but it's a salad. There quite a few places downtown that have salads, and they are good. In fact, many non-salad places like Naf Naf which is Mediterranean allows you create a salad bowl with their toppings. I digress, but it's not hard to find a salad. Therefore, is it worth paying at minimum $9 before tax for the most basic salad such as a Caesar Salad? No, let alone how any "exotic" salad such as their takes on a southwestern style salad being $11 to $12 before tax is ridicolous. That said, there are positives to this place. As I mention, the salads are good, and I've had several different types of salads. I haven't had a bad salad, but I can't attest to the soup or bowls they sell. They look good, and others get it, so I'm sure the quality is solid as well. I digress, but the salads are good since the toppings are fresh. The dressings are good, and they will give you fresh bread as well. From a salad standpoint, it's really good and you can't go wrong from this viewpoint. Having said that, is it again easily worth paying $12 before tax? No, and lets say you want to customize a salad or add something, you'll likely be approaching $15 with tax, or more. Let alone if you want a drink like a can of soda which is almost $2. It's a 12oz can, and they are charging like you are getting a 20oz up at any other place. God forbid you want to add anything "exotic" like an avocado or an egg. That's easily a dollar or two for those toppings, and something basic like cilantro is a about a dollar. It may not sound a lot, but it adds up, and a bushel of cilantro at the store is like $1.50. Even for the organic cilantro in some stores. I expect a markup, but not to the same price level to buy a bushel in exchange a few cut up pieces of greens. It's a business, and rent isn't cheap, but they aren't offering competitive pricing. Finally, my last issue is this place is way too pack too often. The good news is they are efficient, but expect a good 15 to 20 minute wait from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Let alone how many people order online, and you may have a giant cluster of people at the cashier trying to figure out their order which is disorganized. No offense everyone, it's a salad, and not worth the long wait. You can go to almost any corner and get a salad downtown with a third of the price and twice as fast. That's my big issue, the cost and waiting for a salad. The salads are good, and they deserve a solid 3 stars for that alone, but the price and long lines deters it from a 4 or 5 stars. If the prices were competitive, it would easily be a 4, but it can't since no salad, with the exception of a steak or seafood style salad, is worth more than $10 for a meal at a fast casual restaurant. Especially for something like chicken Cesar which you can find anywhere, and the quality is on par with Just Salad. P.S.: Buy the plastic bowl to at least get a topping or two for free. It's to save costs on their front in the long run, and at least you're reusing plastic. read more

You can find quite a few places that have pretty good salads in this area, but Just Salad is probably the best. The lines can get pretty long during lunch but they have a lot of employees and you're in and out of this place in no time. There are plenty of specialty salads that all sound and look pretty good. I've only gotten the Buffalo Chicken Salad and it is amazing. Buffalo chicken, celery, little cubes of pepper jack cheese, tortilla strips, and ranch all chopped up and put in cool looking clear bowl. That is my suggestion if you decide to give Just Salad a go. You can also create your own Salad and get whatever ingredients you desire. The price range is between $7-$10 which isn't bad considering the quality of the food. Another solid option in my building. It doesn't happen tremendously often...but Chicago is very capable of penning you inside your office at lunch time through various forms of precipitation. If you don't have lunch, this leaves you with Roti or Starbucks. Was curious to try this place once the branding went up. Even though I perused online and decided what I wanted before I went downstairs, this was still a bit overwhelming (as others have mentioned). Since I ordered something off the menu, the worker had my ingredients together quickly and had me jump around the line of people customizing their food. There are two "finishers" who chop and dress your salad before you pay. Went with the Tandoori Fire salad. Solid chicken, pita chips and feta were a perfect complement. The pickled red onions didn't have the pickled taste I was hoping for though. The side of bread was tasty and fresh. For $10.02 total charge, I feel satisfied with the amount of food. It's a salad, you aren't going to be full as long as you would if you had something else. Definitely will be back to try something in a wrap. read more
