I wonder whether those who write reviews are only the dissatisfied customers. Haven't been there in ages; went last evening & my friend had the AYCE fish fry. I had the hamburger with applewood smoked bacon & blue cheese crumbles. The hamburger was one of the best I've ever had, with 2 thick slices of bacon done just right & not at all greasy. I ordered the burger medium rare & it was great. Some places I've been to serve a medium rare hamburger that's almost too sloppy to eat. I had a taste of the cod & it was very good as well. Our waitress was very attentive without being intrusive, as sometimes happens at some places. I didn't want to eat my pickle because I was full & asked for a container. She came back with a small container full of extra pickles. Will try to get back there soon because I want to try other items off the menu that were tempting. It was not crowded; we got there about 4:30 & were immediately told we could sit anywhere. Hope people aren't staying away because of some of these bad reviews. We love this place and have been coming to all the Bierstubes since the 80's. It's warm and welcoming in the winter and the German dishes are wonderful. The staff is always friendly and the grill smells wonderful. read more

Very poor quality food for the price. Had to wait 35 minutes for the last meal to be delivered. Our kids meals were sent out 10 minutes before ours. First adult meal was sent out 30 minutes after we ordered and the second adult meal was sent out 5 minutes later. Waitress is apologize saying they had a rush (only two other families entered after us). First adult meal was sent out with cold fries. Silverware was sent out well after kids meals were served. We went Saturday night hoping to have a beer, glass of wine, a burger and fries and watch the Little League World Series. And that was all we ordered and received a bill of $28.00! REALLY! And that was ONE burger!! The House wine was $9.00! $9.00 for a 6 oz glass of house wine from Bierstube? Service was mediocre at best. With all the eating places available in the Oakdale/Maplewood area to dine at, we will NOT be returning to Oakdale Bierstube. PLEASE do not waste your time/money at this establishment!! read more

I think my husband and I must have gotten the same LOUD and could-care-less- about- the- customer waitress that Ben D. had back in Feb! We stopped in yesterday afternoon for lunch at 11:15. We were pretty much the only customers in there. The waitress was blatantly complaining (to put it nicely) to the bartender for about 5 mins. before she even greeted us or came to our table. She then took our drink order: 1 water and a raspberry iced tea. She went back to the bartender and said we wanted 2 iced teas. We should have left then. She returned with 1 water (miracle!) and 1 regular iced tea. I said I thought I ordered raspberry iced tea and she said "oh yeah" and went and traded it out. When she took our order, I asked for a BLT with real mayonnaise (not salad dressing, aka Miracle Whip). She assured me they had real mayo. My husband ordered the hamburger steak WELL,WELL done. While we waited for our food, we were still nearly the only ones in the restaurant.....and our waitress followed the bartender up to the front door area and resumed her 'complaining" about some previous customers and co-workers. I drank my iced tea and hoped she would at least glance at us so I could get a refill. When I was finally able to get her attention and flag her over to our table, I said "I know you're really busy, but could I get a refill on my tea?" She said "Oh, no, I'm not busy, I'm just talking". Well. DUH....No Kidding!!!!! When our food finally came, the BLT definitely had salad dressing and NOT mayo on it. I got up and brought it over to the bar and asked if they had made a mistake and forgot the real mayo. The waitress assured me it was mayo. I asked to see the container and sure enough the one she brought out from back in the kitchen area did say real mayo on it.....but she opened up a brand new bottle and said that this is what the cook used. It was not even cracked open. When I was up at the bar, my husband came over with his hamburger steak and showed it to us and it was BRIGHT red inside. A far cry from WELL.WELL done. The waitress said it looked okay to her. Really? The cook came out and he looked dazed and confused. It would be my guess that the could-care-less waitress did not specify anything on our order to the cook because she was too busy being mad at the world and looking for the bartender so she could continue ranting and raving to him. My husband said "Just forget it, we are done here." I asked if she wanted for me to pay for the iced tea and after thinking about it said, "No, I guess not". Well, THANK YOU. but no thanks. We will never go back to the Oakdale Bierstube. And no wonder it was so empty of patrons at lunch time on a Wednesday...there was absolutely no customer service and I can pretty much say that the waitress there drives customers away. read more

I live close to this place but will never go back again. I went to have a beer and a burger but instead got asked to leave by the owner as some girl with either mental or emotional problems started to yell at the top of voice that I had said something to her see was 6 chairs away. Then her boyfriend who also was something off his rocker kept saying lets go outside so I can knock your face off. I tried to finish my beer and burger but left. I've been here a few times in the past to enjoy a burger and beer with my son and his wife. It use to be a friendly fun place to get a ymmy Monday night special/burger and beer. But the waiter we the past few times has issues- he was arrogant, angry and disrespectful. I usually get a tall tap beer but was told by staff last year it's a better deal to get a small pitcher. When last we were here, 2mth ago- the waiter changed the price of a small pitcher of beer from $5 to $15 for a Small pitcher. So this time, last monday, I asked first- how much is a pitcher of beer. He said $15. I showed him the website which notes, $5 small pitcher tap beer. He said, 'it's wrong. I keep trying to get them to change that'. My thought now, am I suppose to believe him and not the website? He started a rant about 'oh i remember you from last time and...,' To where my son interrupted him with, 'Moving on.' Honestly, what was the point. I was asking a question. He said "it's on the menu'. I don't remember seeing it there so I asked him to show me where it's noted priced otherwise. He began grabbing menus and tossing things around in a little temper tantrum, finally showing me the price $3.50 for special on tall tap beer mugs. Nothing about pitchers, large or small. I had enough of his crabby ways and let it go. I order my burger and tall tap- The burger was wonderful with the chips, beer was cold. When it came time to checkout, I usually tip pretty good but I also base it on service. Got the bill and as I was sorting my cash the waiter asked 'will you be needing change back'? no thanks. I was so taken aback by his remarks and disrespectful ways. I left the cash along with a dollar tip on the table. My son, his wife and I were out the door nearing the parking lot when this raving maniac came out the door (our waiter) chasing us and harshly yelling- Maim... maim, excuse me Maim. You forgot your change! as he's waving a dollar around. I was stunded- he flashes his pompous abrasive additude at customers and expects a tip at all is rediculous notion. He's lucky he got anything. We hoped to enjoy a burger and beer on a lazy monday night- enough with the drama angry waiter. I guess I will return to my 20yr monday night burgers standby, Brine's in Stillwater- where the burgers and beer are wonderful, reasonably priced and staff is happy and respectful to customers. read more

I'm taking the lack of reviews to mean something! When we were enticed to go there for lunch because of a coupon...we were the only ones there until another customer came in right near the end of the hour we spent there. The fish filet sandwich was dry, the batter like concrete, and the chips out of the bag along with the Coke were the best part. My friend's steak was sub-ordinary. In all kind of pricey for the mediocre fare. Going to go to 5-8, Little Oven, or Ari's Best Steak House to get much better meals for a slightly better price. read more

As a one-time J W's Bierstube regular, I used to think this was the best hole-in-the-wall/restaurant bar you could go to in the Twin Cities. With that been said, I will start off with the last time we ventured, the waitresses who once donned jeans and a t-shirt, were wearing next to nothing/trashy/late 90's/don't dare take my child in here ever again..type of clothing. I was there with my husband, father-in-law, soon to be mother-in-law, and four year old son (contemplated covering his eyes). Well as we were already there we decided to order a round of drinks before our food was to be served. My husband had ordered a beer. As he started to drink his beer he had felt what seemed to be glass in his mouth. He took it out and sure enough, it was glass! He had a shard of glass in his beer! So as anyone would do, he took the shard of glass and contacted the waitress. He told the waitress the situation and she (who was shocked and apologetic) said that she would get the manager. Before my husband could even utter a word the MANAGER as RUDE AS COULD BE said, "well what do you want me to do about it?" Shocked, my husband said POLITE as can be, "well maybe just get me a new beer?', the MANAGER proceeds to raise his voice and insinuated that my husband was lying(for what reason we have no idea, all he wanted was a new beer, not to sue them..) and as the manager proceeded to have a massive attitude problem, we decided to leave. What he should have done regardless of thinking or considering my husband to be lying (like you know, most people just carry small shards of glass in their pocket)...was simply come to us and say; I was told you found some glass in your beer, would you like me to get you a new glass or beer?? It's not like the beer was almost gone and suddenly the glass showed up, the glass showed up on the first sip..instead he came up with a massive attitude and blamed us for the glass in his drink. We had even said to the waitress that maybe a glass had broken in the kitchen and some glass flew unknowingly in the glass and that's maybe how it got in there. He was NOT willing to work with us or handle the situation as a manager should have. We had NEVER in the 7 years past have ever once complained about the service, food, or anything. My husband and I had been regulars and we have not and will never go back. The manager was terrible, non apologetic and wouldn't even give him a new glass. We weren't even asking for a free beer (which he deserved) all he wanted was a new glass. The MANAGER was by far the worst manager I've ever encountered. The waitress came up to us right after and apologized and she was very friendly with us as we were to her. We actually felt sorry for her that her manager acted like such a rude and disgusting person. It was embarrassing for us (especially in front of my four year old) and it was equally embarrassing to the waitress. The only advice she could give us was to try and contact the owners but they were no avail. They lost a long-time customer not over glass in a beer, but by a terrible manager. Rude server. Specials change by the server not the internet specials. Update and inform your wait staff of the current drink and food specials. Teach the cooks how to cook a burger that isn't raw and use the exhaust fan to actually catch the smoke don't put the meats on the outside of the grill so the smoke from them goes right up the outside of the exhaust fan and into the dining area. Literally blue in there, might as well be smoking inside from the amount of smoke the grills make. And seriously take down the online specials that we have been informed no longer are valid. Its been over two months, and we still see the specials for $5.00 for a small pitcher that we got charged $15.00 for wow, I will go buy a case somewhere for that price. Might want to think about your wait staff as one individual is completely pompous. read more
