I stumbled across this place on freezing, slushy night in Ridagewood, and felt the draw to eat tons of hot Chinese food even though many horrible all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet memories danced in my heard. Perhaps, stumbled isn't quite the right word. K Angel K looks like a giant suburban restaurant. You can't even get inside without walking through the large parking lot. In New York??? Inside, things look appealing. The place is gigantic. There are at least four buffet tables, there is a pleasant, large fountain that greets you upon entry. Then things start to get ugly. Once, I sat down and ordered some tea, which was the most successful part of my meal, I wandered up and down the isles of buffet food. I kid you not, of the roughly 64 items to choose from (yes I counted), about 8 could be considered Chinese, and I'm being generous. Want some delicious Chinese appetizers? Perhaps mussels aand shrimp in bad cocktail sauce, salad, french fries, and onion rings will do the trick. If you're after some serious chowing on your favorite Chinese-American dishes, you're in luck! Corn on the cob it is, not to mention fried chicken and pasta! If you're tired from all of this heritage food, you may want to still take a risk and go for classic deserts such as tapioca and jell-o. The cake under the sign for sushi also looks particularly appealing. As for the actual Chinese food? Well, don't worry, everything is overcooked, smothered in sauce, and barely lukewarm, just like the American food. I could barely finish my dishes. Since I don't have a music blog or any blog for that matter, you fine foodies here at Yelp will just have to put up with what will prove to be an unjustifiably useless review of K&K Super Buffet because, despite it being a restaurant, not a bite of food was to be had. In fact, the reason I had left Queens (...to go to Manhattan to go through Brooklyn to get to Queens...) was to catch a show. You see, like the mild-mannered Dr. Jekyll, for one night the otherwise conventional K&K Super Buffet underwent a Mr. Hyde-esque transformation, assuming Mr. Hyde was a lot less of a sociopathic murderer and much more into Bon Iver. Thanks to the efforts of Todd P., a frequently name-dropped figure in context of the NYC DIY music experience, the buffet stowed away steam trays and opened its doors to host a few DJ sets (who I was too late to catch and am now too lazy to look up), The Babies, Black Dice, and the headliner Real Estate who are originally from Ridgewood, New Jersey and is the inspiration for the clever transposition of towns. Seeing as how: A) Real Estate's latest album, Days, was the soundtrack of my life for a week, B) Tickets cost less than a Subway $5 Footlong (Okay...tickets were actually $7 after fees, but still kudos to Todd P again for keeping the price unbelievably low), C) The venue was a CHINESE BUFFET, There was no way I was going to miss out on the experience. Apparently, neither were hundreds of other people because, despite the size of K&K resembling what I compared to as a "Townhall for a middle-class southwest American suburb" or a friend saw as a "McChurch", the place was packed out. In fact when we first got there there was a line that stretched the entire perimeter of the parking lot to get in. I was actually shocked on how orderly and professional the entire situation was given that the sheer amount of people lined up on a Saturday night was more than enough for a fiasco. Say what you want about hipsters, but they can queue up patiently like champs. Perhaps it's because I imagine most Chinese buffets to be minimally decorated food landfills with a layer of grease coating plastic covered furniture but K&K was rather nice and clean looking. The bamboo (or faux bamboo) wall decor fit in nicely with the mini-waterfall up front though it seemed more Japanese inspired than Chinese. I did think the crystal ship chandelier was a bit gaudy and more befitting for the house of a pirate hip-hop artist. The tables were dull though and while I'm not even expecting dinner cloth, it didn't have to look like the inside of a bowling alley. I actually couldn't figure what the stage was made of, so I am unsure if there was make-shift or if the buffet actually sported one but either way, it was sufficient. A wish that I had made to my friend earlier, that the audience would be placed amongst the buffet tables, was joyfully realized as I watched most of the show from what I would guess to be the dessert section. The acoustics were an audiophilic wonder and sound levels were mixed to the perfect blend of fidelic euphony...nah, I'm just kidding, I have no idea what I'm talking about. But I do know there was a shit ton of amps and it was loud and it was awesome and it was a Chinese buffet so who cares. read more

The buffet here has friendly waitresses, but the food is just OK. There are many things to choose from at a good price, but once an item is all taken, it takes the staff a while to put more out. Another bad thing is that the area is not the greatest. My group almost got into an altercation with some faux gang when a drunken friend of mine said something stupid. The place is big and has a lot of seating, so there is never a wait. There is a much better buffet in Howard Beach that I would reccomend. read more

An $8 Chinese Buffet for lunch? I have found heaven on earth. NYC seems fairly short on buffets, and I was beside myself when I discovered this place five minutes away from my apt. The ONLY negative I can see (being a fruitaholic) is that they only had pineapple and honeydew when I was there - more fruit would be a plus. However, everything else was amazing - not only do they have classic chinese staples (lo mein, fried rice, chicken and broc), they also have mac&cheese, pizza (not bad), and mashed potatoes and fries. Location: First, I live just 3 blocks north from here. As to the comments that the area is bad, I would not classify this area as dangerous. Ridgewood has much improved in the past 20 years. The buildings in this area are side by side and above ground train tracks do give a very urban feel to the immediate area. The parking lot is big and open, and there is ample seating inside. I've been her on weekends and it consisted mostly of small groups of adults and a few families. However, I can imagine if there was a group of teenagers here, they would be loud and obnoxious. But that is the case with any eatery. Food: I am not a big buffet fan, but I have come here several times for crab legs and the other types of seafood. They do offer a variety of more options that the regular cheap buffets. Staff & Price: The staff was pleasant. It does cost a couple of dollars more at night and on weekends. Like any buffet, usually they have more expensive foods out at these times. I have not been here in a while, but I assume it is still around $15 a person on weekend nights. Conclusion: It is not worth coming here if you have to drive more than 15 mins. But if you live in the lower Queens neighborhoods or just in the area, this buffet place is worth consideration to fill a hungry stomach. read more

I really do like the place..I suggest to go on monday-thursday where is usually 11 dollars.Also before 5pm its cheaper. There is a lot of seating so not waiting.There isnt much to chose from the dessert menu,they have an ice cream machine which has really tacky ice cream and sometimes it broken.Either chocolate or vanilla. They have little pieces of cake such as carrot,cinnamon,chocolate and a few cookies. They have an entire area for lobster ,oysters and many different types of seafood. Their buffalo,friend wings are also really good.The service is pretty good.I recommend you pay before you start eating,ask for your check in advance ,if not they will bill you after your first plate...Very spacious and nice to come with family and friends read more

Came here for weekday lunch. I believe it was around $8, more or less. The choices were of typical Chinese fare, with trays of mashed potatoes, mac n cheese and other deli staples. Food was pretty good and service was consistent. I took a group of 60 seniors and the staff was friendly and helpful. The food was also very good. The price was reasonable considering everything you get. Personally it was the cleanest buffet I have ever eaten at. The decor is nice and not tacky making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Used to come here alot when they first opened and really enjoyed this place, then I came through last year and the food wasn't great, today I decided to try it once more with the family,it was horrendous. The food was horrible the atmosphere was crappy and the servers all looked like they wanted to leave. All of the food had a smell that throws you off. When we normally come to an "all you can eat" buffet we come with a big appetite, and eat well, the food was so bad we could only tolerate one plate. My girlfriend neighborhood and told me to check it out. From the outside, it seemed like a typical large buffet. The prices were jacked up, as the lady claimed the owner changed it. That however is not a problem for a man of my net worth. There are very limited options. The seafood is absolutely atrocious. A lot of the food is majority simple uncooked. My wife and I took our son there as a reward for passing his Regents test, we heard the place was under new management so we decided to try it out. The place had not changed from how we remembered it visually speaking, there were a lot of cars parked in the parking lot so we assumed the place was packed. To our surprise it was empty except for maybe three or four tables and what sounded like a kids party in the party room. We sat in a booth by the window which happen to be dirty, we got up to get our plates and the first plate we picked off the pile was dirty. We took a different plate and went around looking to see what we would eat, I chose mashed potatoes, boneless spare ribs, general taos chicken, some sweet plantains, and what was supposed to be a steamed dumpling, it was all cold!!! My wife got fish and some steamed vegetables and they too were cold, my son picked some of the same things we picked plus clams, everything was cold the dumplings and clams looked old and rubber like! We ordered diet cokes and they were flat, the "Ice cream" had no flavor. This place was a poor excuse for Chinese buffet, we have been to a few and this one came in very short in comparison.. Beware!
