The chicken was good and the onions on top were barely cooked. The cabbage had a funky taste so I couldn't eat it. I had diarrhea the next morning! Much of the Clientele looked unhealthy and or obese, and I feel sure they felt like they were going out for Sunday dinner at Mamas or grandmas. The floors in the Food Lion were so dirty and sticky. I felt like my shoes were sticking and same thing in the bathroom. You could hear it with practically every step. I will not eat there again! I just ate dinner at K&W on Healey and it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. All of the food was almost cold. The Salisbury Steak I had was awful. It was so full of grissel it could hardly be chewed. I took it back and got turkey and dressing. It also was cold and not good. Growing up in the Triad K&W was always a staple restaurant for us. My usual location closed so my son and I were happy to try this location. He loves the baked spaghetti and fried okra. I usually get the veal cutlet. It was a little too saucy but the cutlet was great. They did a good job on the salad. Sometimes it can have too much dressing but this location did the right amount. We shared the chocolate pie for dessert. It was yummy as usual. The low prices and friendly staff will have us return in the future. read more

This place has gone downhill BAD. I I were corporate id get rid of the management ASAP. I should have known when I walked in and the place was empty on Sunday morning. The food was OLD and cold. They had like 3 workers to serve. They came out and replaced the mashed potatoes by dumping a container of mashed potatoes in the old pan with the dried up potatoes still in the bottom along with some white watery liquid that came out with it. The rolls were old and had been buttered with cold butter still formed on the roll. My cabbage had a large hair in it. There was water leaking from the ceiling on the floor and wasn't cleaned up just a wet floor sign over it. They were short of chicken and said it would take 35 mins to make more. The noodle salad had a sour taste to it. We had a party of 6 and NOBODY finished the food cuz the food was NASTY. We walked out and put that place on the "never do again list" Dave yourself the time. It had been a while since we had been to K & W. We decided to stop in at this location for lunch today. Terrible mistake. The guy serving the meat was one if the rudest and unfriendly server we have ever seen. They have changed the way they collect the money, instead of collecting it as you leave, they now collect it at the end of the line before you sit down and eat, which slowed the line down. The chicken tenders were cold, and the fried okra had a funny after taste. The hamburger steak was also cold. The food was awful. The guy at the meats also had a beard, and had no beard guard, they used to use beard guards. The price was much higher, for what we paid, we could have went to a nicer restaurant with much better food and much better experience. It's sad that K & W has gone down hill so much. I understand Piccadilly bought the company. We had originally planned on going to C & H cafeteria in Kernersville, where the food is much better. We regretted the decision, and will never be back to K & W. read more

I ordered a take out from K&W on E. Hames Mill Road on Tuesday Aug. 26th. The food was awful, especially the country style steak!!!!! The new owners has changed their way of making it. I posted a very negative review about my meal. Someone (the owner) sent me a reply, apologizing for my bad experience. He/she said they wanted to "make things right" and gave me a number to call.(225-424-7221). I called that number 6 times in two days and only got a recording saying " your call did not go through, try again later". Which shows me how little they care!!! I called and spoke with someone at that K&W and she told me that they have new owners and they do not make the food the same way they used to. Like I said before, it was aweful!!!! We grew up going to K&W and in the past the food was good and reasonably priced. We took my husband's father for dinner last night and it was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. First of all the entrance lobby floor was filthy, then when we start going through the line and everything looked old and picked over. It looked like leftovers from a few days before. My husband got country style steak that was gross with some kind of gelatinous gravy on top. I got Mac and cheese and green beans thinking they couldn't be too bad. They were both awful. The pies looked old and unappetizing. Everyone in our party was so disappointed in the appearance of the restaurant and the subpar quality of the food. I've gotten takeouts from the Holden Road location in Greensboro for my mom and the difference in quality of food and the overall appearance of the restaurant was so much better than the Healy Road location. We stopped in for breakfast at the K&W off Stratford Road. The restaurant is clean and there is plenty places to sit and eat. The employees were quite friendly but we were surprised at the high cost for such mediocre fare. The grits were coarse and bland and the butter did not help. So the last time I ate from K&W was probably 15 years ago. . . The difference in food quality compared to now is unreal. Things were either bland or way too salty. Chicken fingers were dry and thus chewy. Mac & cheese was like noodles and scrambled eggs, I'm not sure where the cheese was. Baked spaghetti tasted like ketchup was used for the sauce. And y'all, the chocolate pie is so weak, put some chocolate in there please! This used to be my mom's absolutely favorite chocolate pie, used to always get it for her birthday and Mother's Day. This is not the same pie. Had a bite of coconut pie too, same problem. Very weak flavor. I hate to say the food has went downhill but it was all mediocre at best. It was good when it was good but we will not be back. :( read more

Much lower quality food than the last time I ate there a few years ago. Today I placed an online order for three dinners, and after I got home I found that two of the sides that appeared on the bill were absent. When I called, they said, "just come back and pick it up" and then hung up the phone. Since the pickup area on the side of the building is now closed, I had to go to the end of the cafeteria line to pick up the order, and it was clear that the place was very understaffed. Prime rib was on the menu, when asked about it, the guy serving the food was dumbfounded that I had asked & he had to ask a manager, to which she replied, "Of Course Not!" A'Dasia B. was the Rudest person on the line, she demanded to know what I was drinking! Rang up my meal, shoved the ticket at me, without a word spoken! Her appearance was less than professional, dirty, stained uniform, Extremely Unprofessional!! For a company that has filed bankruptcy, and the number of customers in the establishment could be counted on two hands, perhaps Customer Service should be one of your Top Priorities. Purchased a Thanksgiving turkey and a ham meal for $165.00. The food was placed on a table outside. A staff member was opening all the containers inside my two boxes to ensure all the items were included. The problem is that he had a cold and was sniffing inside each container he opened. Also, he was wearing a bandana below his nose. It was gross. He should not do that. He should also wear gloves if he has to check and wear a ckean mask covering his nose. I got home and used clorox wipes to disinfect the outside of the containers. Regarding the food, it was good. My only complaint is that the gravy was in a small cup rather than a larger container. We ran out it, and still have a lot of turkey left. read more

K & W is a multi store Family owned Restaurant . Cafeteria style but not in personal service ! My favorite location is @ 800 Hanes Mill blvd. Winston Salem N.C. I moved here from New Jersey. Local friends introduced me to this cafeteria. I had my doubts but after a few visits, the quality of food and hospitality provided had few equals. This chain restaurant does a solid job. If you ever have a hankering for some southern food but are not sure what you want OR you want it all, you should swing by here. The prices are great, especially if you go for a daily special. The staff are friendly and accommodating. I am not sure if this is true for all K&W's, but this spot has a take-out section with a smaller but still substantial line of food options. The process of going through that line was still pretty long (~15 minutes), likely due to being there are rush hour when many people are grabbing takeout for work. I do wonder if it would have been quicker to go into the regular cafeteria during lunch hour. If you want anything not on that smaller cafeteria line, they will still grab it from the main area. The building is nice and clean and there is plenty of parking available. Their food does tend to be on the heavier side, with fried chicken or fish, broccoli with cheese sauce, and other assorted soul-food items, but they do have leaner options (eg. grilled chicken with no sauces, broccoli without the cheese sauce, sautéed vegetables). I was very surprised at how well-cooked all the items were cooked considering how they were being kept in cafeteria bins. Great place if you like slightly greasy-spoon food or have a big group of people with varying tastes. read more

Dad selected the Chicken and Dumplings, mashed potatoes & gravy, cottage cheese, and a roll. The chicken and dumplings had ample gravy and chicken meat. The noodles were slickers, the style that is rolled out flat and cut into squares. I think they must have used the broth that the chicken was cooked in to make the gravy because it was very rich and had hearty chicken flavor. The mashed potatoes were a creamed potato with brown gravy. Dad, Mom and Jerry ordered them, and they all thought the potatoes tasted good. The bread was a soft homemade yeast roll. Both of my parents love the rolls and always get one. Mom had the Baked Spaghetti, mashed potatoes & gravy, fried apples, roll, and coffee. The spaghetti was tossed in a tangy meat sauce with diced vegetables and was covered with baked cheese. The tender apples could have been dessert as they were coated in a brown sugar and spice glaze. Jerry had the Chicken Livers, macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes & gravy, and custard pie. As it was a slower night, the livers and the mac & cheese had been on the food line too long. They were dry and no longer piping hot. The egg custard was so mild that the crust overpowered it. I had the Chicken Ranch Casserole, fried okra, turnip greens, and Mexican cornbread. The casserole was outstanding. The rotini noodles were tossed in a creamy sauce with loads of chicken and topped with a layer of baked cheddar cheese. The okra was breaded and fried crisp. The tender cooked greens with diced turnips were well seasoned and had the tiniest hint of bitterness. I thought the cornbread had a bit of heat from the jalapeno peppers but was mild enough for most everyone's taste. We love K&W's food and think it tastes like it's home-made. My mother-in-law uses K&W when she has large family get togethers and everyone likes it. The macaroni & cheese is unbelievably good and the chocolate cream pie is one of my favorite desserts. Is it perfect every day? No, but neither is home cooking. It's usually pretty consistent, though and the prices are really good. They help people with children and older people take their food to the table, then they will refill your tea and water for you. The serving people remember customers when they come in which I think is nice. read more
