Stopped by here at midnight on the way home to pick up some lunch for the next day. Have always wanted to try the food, thinking it must be the real deal, since the place always seems to be filled with locals and men hanging around at all hours. They had a lot of options laid out buffet-style behind the counter, but the pricing isn't buffet-style. There's also other dishes cooked to order, indian & chinese-indian, a lot of different biryanis and desserts as well. There were about 6 workers behind the counter, 2 customers paying for their food, and I must have waited a good few minutes before I initiated ordering. The guy was rude and then referred me to someone else behind the counter. Apparently there is only 1 guy (the nicest one, the only one wearing an apron and hair net/cap) that takes the orders and packs up the food, not sure what everyone else is doing behind the counter. No one seemed very patient in answering my questions either. If I didn't know what the food was, they wouldn't have helped me. I got the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer over a huge tin of rice for $8. The guy let me have 2 choices, not sure if they usually do that. It looked and smelled good and I was excited about the portion. But reheating it for lunch the next day, the food was very greasy and the sauces seemed like generic gloppy overly-spicy messes. There was so much oil separating from the food. Very disappointed for a place that seems like it attracts a lot of locals, but thinking about it now, I think all the locals were only drinking coffee or tea at their tables. This business needs to shut down or hire new employees. I use to come to this restaurant a lot growing up. But I was very disappointed with my last visit when I went with my friend. I'm so embarrassed to have recommended this restaurant to him. It was his first time going, and now, It will be the last time. Right when we received our food, we were excited to dig right in. We traveled all the way from the Bronx to come here. I got the Haleem and wanted to ask for some lemons. So when I had looked over to get the waiters attention to let him know; there he was...standing there, picking his nose! How gross! My friend asked him for the plate of lemons and the waiter, without washing his hands, goes to grab the plate... This is not acceptable in any food joints. I work with food. Ignored the OK reviews and made it here first time after hearing good things about this place and def didn't regret it! What we ordered: Kachhi Biryani- Wasn't too moist like it's supposed to be but it was still great, good amount of meat in it too. Bhuna Booter Daal- Cooked just perfect Bihari Chicken- THE BEST! Served with Naan Chicken Tikka- Another great dish served with Naan Kheer- It was missing all the almonds and pistachios but still not bad. The only reason KK gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because the kebabs are really good. When KK is good, it's really good. But alot of the times it's a dud. Recently, I ordered take out and the naans were half cooked ( thank god it was the naans and not anything else). I also ordered malai tikka and it was cold, my suspicion was that it was already made and instead of throwing an old order out and making a new one, they decided to give it to me. They did this once before when I dined it ( not to me, but to the table next to me; they obviously complained about it). When dining in, they service isn't great either, the decor is lacking. I grew up seeing ads for this place in all the South Asian channels. They had a jingle that I STILL can't get out of my head 15 years later. So you can imagine how excited I was to be in NYC (I'm from TO) and be able to eat at the place that I've been seeing ads of for so long! However, I was thoroughly disappointed. The place looks like its past its heyday, the interior is HUGE but not in the best shape. It seems to be a go-to spot for large families, which is great, but that also means lots of little kids running around and lots of noise (which can be good or bad based on how much you like kids that day). The food is decent, its good for the price but nothing to make you overly excited. The food does have a homely feel to it, making you miss your South Asian country (if you're from there). Actually, its a bit too homely due to the cutlery they use. We got Biryani and it was unfortunately served on a standard eating plate and the serving spoon provided was a regular table spoon. I was quite let down by the presentation (the ads I saw made it look very upscale). We also got the Karhai, which fortunately did come in a serving dish, along with a slew of kebabs, naan, and a nihari. I thought the kebabs were really good and the naan was also tasty. Overall only the Biryani really disappointed in taste but everything was worth the reasonable price. This is definitely one of the better food options in Jackson Heights. The downstairs area is very crammed but they have a large upstairs area. Personally I think this place has the best Bihari kabob I've have tasted in America. But warning, it is really spicy. If you can't handle spicy food, don't even get close to the Bihari kabob. Good authentic Pakistani food. They serve everybody, it's a place in the neighborhood that everybody knows. One of the few restaurants that's open 24-7. Food is usually good, don't know how fresh it'll b if you go 3am. They carry Chinese & Pakistani food. Ordering is sometimes a pain in he ass. No order u just walk up and be louder than the next guy. Service is ok when u sit. You get what you pay for. It's pretty cheap and the food is good! Upstairs is better for families and overall looks nicer. Kabab King is probably the best non-veg South Asian restaurant in New York. Eating dinner here is kind of like visiting that part of the world, only you can take the F train and be sitting down to eat in 30 minutes. Downstairs is their takeout spot. You can also get table service here in the area furthest from the entrance. Just find a seat at one of the shared tables. Prices are the same as upstairs, and I think the service is a little better, especially if it's not lunch or dinner time. There is also a samovar for the $1 chai (get a cup at the cash register) and a paan seller. Upstairs they have a giant dining room. At the top of the stairs they have a sign saying "Chinese Food Available," but that has never been true in my experience. Instead, I recommend the CHICKEN BIHARI, which I ordered at random one time. It is delicious. I also recommend their vegetable dish (you don't get to pick the vegetable), which has a very distinctive taste that reminds me of meals I had when I was in Dhaka. Service upstairs isn't the best, mainly because the waitstaff can disappear around the corner, into the kitchen, or behind the dining room partition. I compensate by being a little more direct with getting their attention than I would be in other restaurants. It is not a big deal. I'll be honest. Yes, the place is shabby. Its bathrooms could use a renovation. However, I have never had any kind of intestinal issue with the food in dozens of visits. It also has an big "A" rating from the city. I decided to give this place a try since I was craving a bit of Indian. Yelp reviews seemed mixed and I wondered if I should have followed my instinct and pass on this place. Let me say that the management is missing a trick. The place is filthy looking and one should be wary of getting, "Delhi Belly" after eating there. Nothing fancy, just keeping the place clean would work wonders. The tables looked greasy and the cloth being used to wipe the tables by who I perceive to be waiters only made the tables greasier. If that was not bad enough, the service was so disappointing. South Asians, especially Indians are supposed to be some of the friendliest, coolest people around - my experience has always been positive. Hence, I am doubtful the kitchen is run by Indians. Anyone know who runs this joint? The behavior of folks behind the counter was rude. Don't even bother walking in and asking for recommendations - a test I often use to see how good the service might be. I almost walked away after I got a nasty response but the Naan looked good. So, in the end I gambled and got the Chicken Biryani and Chicken Curry with Naan. The Biryani was subpar; it tasted stale and dry. The Chicken Curry on the other hand was delicious and the Naan was big and scrumptious. I am not sure why the Curry has to be served in the type of container where someone's thumb could slip in there while serving. If you know what I mean. I have traveled to South Asia and had street food and felt more comfortable than this place. No excuse for uncleanliness! This is why I have to hit this place hard with a 1 star. How could a place that could produce such good Naan and Chicken Curry have such low hygiene and poor customer service. Please get it together folks. Came here late night for a quick bite with a few friends; we were all craving something Desi so we figured something in j-hood would be open. Dera, our go to spot, was closed and kabab king was right across the street. I'm not the biggest fan of kabab king because it's not exactly the cleanest place in the world; however, they're known for their authentic fare and consistent service. I don't ever have issues when eating here. Everything's served on time and consistency is good. Our meal was on point, from the naans to the kabobs and chutney. The only down side was the chicken makhni. It wasn't anywhere as good as Dera's or some of the other places I've had it. I like Kabab King's naans and how they're not too crusty around the center--still as soft as can be. The only down side is how dated and desi style the place is. Even the bathrooms are a major turn off. I don't want to step into the bathroom unless I absolutely have to. If they can step up the bathrooms and the chicken makhni, I'll have a new go-to desi spot! read more

My first impression entering the restaurant was not very satisfying. The restaurant's equipment were very old, the lobby was congested with customers and tables were dirty. I still went ahead and ordered hoping the food will be good. The service was fast but the guests were not greeted. I ordered a chicken biryani (to go because I couldn't eat in a place where hygiene is not good). My total was 6.99 and I offered to pay with debit card, they said minimum $10 for debit card ( another inconvenience for the guests). I went outside and was waiting for the bus so i can go home. I got the bus right away and opened the food container. At my first look I was like " what a waste of money". The food was greasy, the rice and the chicken were cold.
