I'm lucky enough to live near Gorkhali's new Brooklyn outpost, but I had to try the OG location in Jackson Heights. It's actually not right in the main 74th st chowk area, but a few blocks away under the 7 train, and it's set up with an upstairs eating area, just like many of the small restaurants I'm used to seeing across the hill stations of the Himalyas. I ordered a veg thali and we shared the chili momos. These were some of the best veg momos I've had in Queens - they used a mix of chives with other vegetables to give some texture. In the veg thali, I really enjoyed the black dal - it paired perfectly with the 3 tangy achaar varieties that were included. It was a weekday so the upstairs stage was empty, but it looks like there may be live music on the weekends here!

Always seen this place and finally decided to come in and have a meal. I ordered the mixed Thenthuk. Absolutely delicious. Up there for my favorites in the neighborhood. Have to come back for jhol momo. Guys at the next table ordered and it smells so good. Service was quick. Seating upstairs and downstairs.

Tried something new this time. I was surprised with their mix chowmein. It was really good. You can rarely find fried dish in a Nepali restaurant and it was good too. Just be aware that they usually include tips in the cheque.

The atmosphere is a lot of fun and the service was good had nothing to complain about it. The food is fine but didn't blow me away, I have had a lot better and more in depth of flavors from other Nepalese restaurants before. Its not too expensive! If you are in the area this place is defintely worth a try!

What can I say ? I wanted to try this place since it first opened and then when I read some Yelpers' odd experiences, well, the curiosity got the best of me ! The server was nice and the food was okay. Yes, here comes the but...the food was tapas style portions and over priced. Appetizer and entrees came at same time. We were told the food was too spicy/hot, it burned the roof of 2 of my guests mouths ! We had to order a side of rice and water to ease their pain ! They have a diverse bar collection and do live performances on weekends, so I am assuming this is more like bar food type place. $108 for 3 adults and a kid. Oh, the stairs to the seating area and bar are like something out of an amusement park...go up and down at your own risk !

It's a great option for Nepalese cuisine and they have a bar upstairs (but didn't try the bar). Meaning you can have drinks with your food, which doesn't happen at all the Nepalese restaurants in this area. So if that's your thing, then maybe this is the place for you. Once again, don't sleep on this place. Seating-downstairs and a bar upstairs. Ambience- medium sized restaurant, sort of hole in the wall vibes, but again in the best possible way. Service- The owner's homestyle food is pretty great and if you want legit/traditional Nepalese cuisine then this place is for you. It's quite phenomenal. The young men and women that run the place are kind and polite. Food-Thali is good. Definitely get it. It is authentic Nepalese cuisine you will find on this side of Roosevelt. I also wish she would expand and come to manhattan. veg chow mein-show stopper if you like it hot, and we do. if you don't like spicy cuisine then maybe ask them if they can make it less spicy because it's hot and if Im saying it that says something. Jhol- love it, again right amoutn of heat and sour and momos are fresher than other places. Price-average/v. reasonable for what you are getting. Can not emphasize enough to come here and try it out by yourself, with a group on a date, whatever you want. Just make sure you don't sleep on this tiny little slice of Nepal hidden on the quiet side of Roosevelt. Let me know what you get?

Food was 10/10. Didn't take long to be seated and didn't wait to long for food to come out. Food was fresh. Will come back for sure. Make sure to try chicken soup with Thali.

We went to Gorkhali Nepalese Restaurant to have Momos. First they told us to sit where we like then they came and changed our seat saying its reserved(there was no sign) but the whole time no one came in. So that was weird. The Momos were pretty good. We took Jhol Momo, beef chili Momo, Beef Thenthuk. The lassi was good too. I forgot the name of the Dish that looks like White Daikon Radish lol. It was not good. The server was nice and friendly.

Great place in Jackson Heights NYC. I've never been to Nepal, but HAVE eaten Nepalese food in Tibet. It's delicious. I had the Rakshi Ko Sathi (Pangra) and MoMo in chili sauce. Along with Taj Mahal lager. If you like Nepalese cuisine OR just want to try something differently delicious, this place rocks!

Another stop on my first Jackson Heights food tour. This Nepalese spot offers Nepali foot,…read moreBhutanese food, Tibetan food, and Indian food. The food types are similar but offer different spice/flavor profiles. They have a large section of noodles, soup, and rice. A veggie section with various combos of cauliflower, potatoes, onion, bamboo, blackened peas, mustard greens, and spices. Some of the Indian dishes: paneer butter masala, palak paneer, chicken tikka masala. Some of the appetizers include crispy tofu, fried soybeans, a Nepali snack platter with marinated meat, goat, beef tripe, sliced beef tongue, fried jerky, duck. They also have a momo section. We had their famous chicken lollipops (essentially fried chicken) and it was crispy and spicy (in a good way). We also had sadeko (marinated or tossed) bacon, which was rich and tender. I had one of their Nepali cocktails, which was pleasantly spicy (the chatpata aam, made with tequila, spicy chatpatey syrup, and mango puree). Service was attentive. Inside is cozy, lots of dark wood and colorful flags. They also often have entertainment in the evening, so I would love to return to hear some live music while trying more Nepali cuisine.

A bit overrated and overshadowed by the nice ambiance…read more I may be biased since I've been to Nepal twice and my palate consisted of dal bhat every single day I was there (momos were a luxury on the trek)--which in no way makes me an expert, but the taste and portions were pretty consistently similar among most places. The first time that I came here was about 3 years ago with a few friends and we liked the food - the beef tongue was different and super memorable and the jhol momos were just swimming in flavorful curry. Made me want to come back again. Fast-forward three years later, I feel like things have changed significantly. Or maybe I didn't catch them at their best, but I came with another group of friends and I just felt overall disappointed with the food, as did my friends who were excited to try Himalayan food for the first time. I had the goat dhat bhat and the small amount of meat served in aesthetically pleasing bowls to mask the portion was disappointing--and this was not a lunch special or anything. I mainly got a big bone and realistically got about 2-3 small bites of actual meat, while there was an overwhelming amount of rice and veggies. The momos also tasted like they were pre-made and heated or steamed up again because the dough was definitely a little rough. Overall, this experience was a meh for me. I think it is a social staple for many Nepalese and Tibetans in the area, and just for that.

I've walked past this place a few times and was intrigued so I decided to give it a try…read more It has a beautiful, well decorated interior and was kept warm and cozy on a snowy day. They provide complimentary popcorn, which is well seasoned and rich with ghee. I was seated in a chair that was very low to the ground. While outfitted with comfy cushions, I was not sure what the proper was to sit on this chair was and I was too embarrassed to ask. My best guess is that it's meant to be a criss cross applesauce type situation, but I had on wet snow boots and didn't particularly want to do that. This isn't a complaint, but just something to consider for anyone with mobility concerns who might be considering visiting. There are some normal style chairs in the front of the restaurant that I'm sure I would have been switched to had I requested as such. Anyway, onto the food. I ordered the "Lahana Ko Faarzi Bhoj" which arrived on a large round platter with a variety of different dishes. I am very new to this type of food, and most of it was completely unfamiliar to me, which was very exciting. The grain at the center of this platter is "chiura," a rice product which has been pounded flat and dried. It has a light and crunchy texture, and pairs well with the thinner, wet curries it was served with as it really soaks up the liquid and expands in size. I've never had this before and it was very interesting to try. The platter comes with two bowls of warm curry, one with black eyed peas and maybe some potato and the other was darker with meat which I preferred. Both were rich and deep in flavor, but the darker one (pictured on the right) was so savory and well balanced- definitely my favorite part of the meal. They both have some heat to them, the kind that builds at the back of the palette throughout the meal, but none of this food was excessively spicy. The main plate has a ring of various cold dishes around the edge, all of which were unfamiliar to me so I can't necessarily identify them. My favorites were the pieces of well seasoned dark meat chicken and the deep fried egg in the center, but it also included some pickled elements, some ground meat and a small skewer, which I found to be quite tough. I really enjoyed trying new, interesting food in such a beautiful space. The servers were kind and there are many other items on the menu that I'm interested to try. I feel lucky to have this place nearby.

Have been wanting to try Faarzi for a while. The location used to be a longstanding Irish pub…read morecalled Grandstand, where a good friend of mine and I used to frequent for the yummiest buffalo wings and shepherd's pie. It was sad to see Grandstand close, but I was elated to see a Nepalese and Himalayan restaurant open in its place since I'm a big fan of the flavors that the cuisine offers. Met up with a friend on a Sunday night. She was already excited by the aesthetics of the exterior of Faarzi and was snapping away. When we opened the door, we were surprised by how pretty the interior was. It was filled with lush, vibrant colors and fun decor that was a tasteful mix of contemporary and rustic, which provided a nice, high-end vibe. It felt authentically Tibetan with a contemporary touch to it. We 'd it! It is the prettiest Nepalese restaurant that I've been to in Queens! Once we sat down, a complimentary basket of popcorn arrived. To my surprise, it was DELICIOUS! It was buttery and just savory enough -- not as crisp as popcorn that's just been popped, but so good that it was addictive! What a nice TREAT!! I couldn't stop reaching for it and according to the sign outdoors, the popcorn has unlimited refills! Now, for the food! We ordered 4 dishes to share: - Bhatti Ko Faarzi Masala Chowmein: Wow, just wow!! The masala spice brought this chow mein to another level! Every mouthful of noodle was al dente and had a balanced bite of a perfect amount of masala spice, ginger, savoriness, and a mild kick of heat. It's on the oilier side, but so flavorful that I kept scooping for more! Can't wait to revisit Faarzi and eat more of this! - Boudhha Ko Faarzi Gheu Momo: We ordered the chicken option. The size of the momos was slightly smaller than the momos I've had before, but they were bursting with flavor! Each bite tasted of cumin, cilantro, garlic, and spices that are very familiar in Nepalese food combined with the fragrant Szechuan peppercorn. The lovely tingling mala flavor from the peppercorns was delicate, but delightful! The momos were delicious, each morsel of meat was wrapped in a thin, chewy skin, which gave it a nice bite even though the chicken filling was on the drier side -- the tomato-based sauce that came with it compensated for it. The sauce was so good, it could literally be eaten with anything. The menu mentioned that 2 sauces would accompany the momos, but only one sauce was paired with them. When we asked, we were informed that the other sauce was the chili crisp hot sauce that I had received earlier when I requested for chili sauce. The momos were definitely a flavor bomb with the tomato-based sauce!. Every bite was heavenly! - Piro Nauni Wings: The wings came, and we couldn't stop ooo'ing about the visual presentation of the dish. There were 2 wings and 2 small drumsticks with a shiny glaze, they were hung on a little contraption that looked similar to how roast meats are hung by the window in Chinese restaurants. It was very cute! The wings were smoky, juicy, slightly sticky and sweet with a good amount of spice that tasted of tandoori. It would be even more fantastic if the skin were crispy. Give the crunchy puffed rice plated on the bottom of the wings a try! It is toasty, crunchy, and delicious and adds a layer of flavor to whatever you decide to add it to. Just delicious! - Jadiyaa Lal Mohan: A juicy, moist, sugary, alcoholic dessert that is not only unique, but fun! There are 4 donut-hole-sized balls of soft, fluffy cake, similar to cake pops, that are soaked in a sugar syrup. Stuck into each cake ball is a shot of whisky in a plastic tube, which you can squeeze to infuse the whisky into the cake however much you like. Since the whisky is quite strong and the shot is generous considering the size of the cake, if you do not like whisky, you may want to try the version without it though it is the whisky that gives the cake flavor. The cake would be much more interesting if it had more of the flavors that Jadiyaa are loved for or maybe if the sugar syrup paired with it was flavored with the spices used to make Jadiyaa. Far a more subdued whisky flavor, give the whisky shot just a pinch and enjoy! We had a great time at Faarzi -- great food, great vibe, good portions, and there was live music towards the end of our meal! Not to mention, we thoroughly enjoyed the Mukhwas style mix of spices and candy bits that were served at the end of the meal! i Can't wait to return to Faarzi to try the Pani Puri, which looked delicious and beautiful!
