The Turkish Fries were loaded with perfectly seasoned, tender döner meat and flavorful toppings that made every bite better than the last. The Istanbowl was fresh, colorful, and packed with crisp cucumbers, tomatoes, pickled vegetables, feta, jalapeños, corn, and incredibly flavorful döner over rice. I remember…read moreseeing the coming soon banner a few months ago and how excited I got because I have been to the Huntington Beach location a good amount of times, yes driving from Garden Grove down there, it was worth the drive. Now does this top Hawaii poke....no...but to me I think its one of the best locally that doesn't do too much. I know some people may have their favorite place, but to me the Huntington Beach location and this one is delish. Located in the shopping plaza across from Main Place mall, there is plenty of parking, note you won't get exactly front row parking and most cases you will park across right after the bushes and will have to walk just a little. They do also have their own outdoor seating but inside there are plenty of tables to sit at as well. Inside the few times I have been here has been clean. Greeted by the workers, its just like chipotle, you choose your size of bowl, start off with the base, depending on the size of bowl you can choose anywhere from 1 to 3 proteins, choose your sauce and then unlimited toppings. I know they have a grilled portion of the menu with Hawaiian BBQ Chicken and a salmon bowl. Also on the menu were some Musubi's. I will have to try all these in due time but this review is mainly for their Poke Bowls. My first time coming to this location I kept it simple: I did half rice half kelp salad, and that kelp salad was really good! Which at the top of my mind is kelp noodles that also had thin carrots. I did three scoops of just Tuna Luau, oh man I think I went with just the garlic soy mirin and for the toppings I had seaweed, imitation crab, cucumbers, edamame and pickled radish. Just as delicious as I remember the drive to the HB location, the rice is cooked perfectly where its nicely clomped together so you can easily incorporate all the other ingredients. The other two photos was another visit, sadly this visit they ran out of the kelp salad Wife ordered a small bowl with rice, Tuna Luau, edamame, ginger, pickled radish, I do know she sauced it with the kimchi sauce. She did say after a few bites it got pretty spicy. This round I went with all rice, pretty much the same toppings, I know for sure I did 3 different sauces and that was the house sauce, sweet citrus and garlic soy mirin. It's a combination of kelp and little pieces of clear noodles, which added a nice change in texture. I also liked that they offer many marinated fish options. I went with the 3-fish bowl and probably got a little carried away with the toppings because I wanted to try almost everything. They were very generous with the portions, so by the time my bowl was finished, it was practically overflowing with food. Definitely no complaints about getting my money's worth! Unfortunately, despite all the ingredients, the overall bowl didn't taste quite as good as I had hoped. I think part of the issue may have been that it needed more sauce or dressing. Without enough of it, the bowl felt a little dry and the individual ingredients didn't come together as well as I would've liked. The restaurant itself is surprisingly spacious, with plenty of indoor seating. Parking is also plenty, which is always a plus. Another nice bonus is that MainPlace Mall is nearby, so that's a nice way to walk off the food. Overall, it was a pretty good first visit. The generous portions, variety of toppings, and marinated fish options definitely make this place worth trying. I'd probably come back and experiment with different combinations and sauces to see if I can build a bowl that I enjoy more.
