Second time coming to this establishment. The first time in South Bay location they messed up my loaded plate order. Instead I got a regular plate without the fries. Wanted to give them another chance. This time in Santa Ana location drove here on a Saturday only to find out it's closed bc they have an "event". No warning on yelp, Google or social they will be closed. Mind you I don't live in S.A. There's about 3/4 guys inside but next door at Trendz there's 1 guy working by himself and it's open!
Disappointing experience. My boyfriend and I came out of our way to try this place, and all platforms (their website, Google, Yelp, Maps) showed that they were open. There was no mention anywhere that they're closed on Sundays or have limited hours. We even asked a nearby restaurant, and they said this place sometimes closes unexpectedly. That's really unprofessional. If you're going to change your hours or close on certain days, please keep your information updated so customers aren't inconvenienced.
The food was amazing and the service was really fast as well! Would come back again especially for the large portions
This was such a yummy meal for lunch! I got the terriyaki chicken plate and it comes with rice, mac salad, and pickled red onions. The portions are big so it's worth the price! You also get two sauces, one was a teriyaki sauce and the other was like a salsa verde. Service is very quick and the guys behind the counter are so helpful. It's located inside of the 4th street market and there plenty of spaces to sit, inside or out. Would eat there again!
This place was so good. I loved the building it's in. being surrounded by a bunch of other great looking food spots made the whole experience even better, but this place definitely stood out. The menu was what pulled me in first; everything was described in a way that made it hard not to order immediately, and it totally lived up to the hype once the food came out. I ordered the OG Spam musubi, which was really flavorful and satisfying, though I wish the spam was a little thicker and there was slightly less rice. That said, the karaage chicken over rice with mac salad and pickled onions was amazing. Everything worked together perfectly, and each bite had a great balance of flavor and texture. Even the mac salad was solid. Overall, I'd definitely come back.
So good- I can't wait to come back to try more selections on their menu. I ordered the katsu chicken plate and nothing was left! Perfect portion size Great flavor and the mac salad wasn't heavy with mayo which a lot of places tend to overdo. Located inside 4th street market- so plenty of seating inside or outside. Saw this place on social media and didn't realize I live so close to it. Decided to take a walk to downtown to try it out! IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Everything was so flavorful. Ordering was easy, they had a iPad with all their menu items and you can also substitute items. But there are also people there if you need help with the menu. This place was in a building and they had tons of seating inside and an outdoor area! Super cool place to check out. They were also many more food vendors to try! My favorite was their garlic shrimp! soooooo goood!
Tried FAKA'S in OC and overall had a really good experience. We ordered the chicken karaage plate with a side of fries. The fries had a nice garlic flavor and a combo with sweet chili shrimp and Kalua pork. The sweet chili shrimp was the standout, crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and the sauce was super flavorful the Kalua pork had a nice smoky flavor, but was a bit dry, I would have liked it to be more moist. Karaage was solid, and the crunchy spam musubi was ok, if it had a katsu sauce it would have been better. the regular spam musubi was alright too. Service was friendly and they're located inside fourth Street market with plenty of clean sitting. Street parking is available which makes it pretty convenient. We drove about 2 hours to this location, I don't know if it's worth the drive but if we are in the area, for sure!
While my wife and I were hanging out around 4th street we ate at their market, which is looking a little depressed, but the Fakas was tasty, had combo plate with chicken teriyaki and pork, felt like Hawaii take our for sure. The order did take a really long time. My wife ordered from somewhere else and she had her food a long time...
we were staying in the lofts above the food hall and had our lunch here. it was so amazing. self service ordering and i got my food really fast. I got the sweet chili garlic shrimp and Iiterally still think about it till this day. best garlic shrimp i've ever had lol. I need to come back and stay in the same area so I could eat it again!! or open in the bay area pls! lol
Enjoyed this Hawaiian spot! I got the half-and-half plate with chicken katsu and karaage chicken, and both were perfectly fried -- super crispy with every bite. The standout for me was the honey sesame dipping sauce that came with the katsu. I loved that they offer a few different sauce options instead of just the usual katsu sauce. The mac salad was just okay for me; I wish it had a bit more flavor. But the POG drink (passion-orange-guava) was refreshing and paired really well with the meal. Overall, great flavors, good portions, and a solid spot when you're craving Hawaiian comfort food.

This place is located in a food hall. They had at least 10+ dining options here. The person who helped me was super nice and apologetic. Sadly, at the time I placed my order, the menu wasn't working either. I ordered: 1. Kalua pork all rice: My husband had to settle for this since there was no loco moco. It was shredded pork and a little dry. It lacked something. Maybe if it was a kalua pork with cabbage, it would be juicier and flavorful. 2. Garlic shrimp w/ chicken katsu: I was surprised this was a fried shrimp with no shell and was coated in the chili sauce. The shrimp was a good size as well. Chicken katsu was tasty, it wasn't the standard panko breading. It had flavor that it didn't need the sweet chili sauce. 3. Crispy spam musubi: I had looked forward to this, but instead, what was in the bag was furikake fries. He had assured me everything was there and even highly recommended the crispy spam musubi. He said it's typically his lunch break snack. Fail. 4. POG agua fresca: I was surprised this was something they still had on the menu. It was delightfully tasty and not overly sweet like an agua fresca Overall, the food was good. I honestly wouldn't have come here had I known there was no loco moco. So it was a good experience to try something new.
Decided to come here with coworkers for lunch and I got the pork plate while they all got the katsu. Everyone left happy! This was a good meal the rice was nice the Mac salad was good the pork was tender and juicy with a tasty green sauce. Sitting outside is a great time with TVs and sunlight so that's great. This place was not the best but it hit the spot and everyone was happy!

Parking, parking garage down the street, not a far walk. Heard about this place via Tik Tok. It's located in a Market type place. Plenty of seating, even on a busy day. Food tasted as good as it looked & smelt. Unique sauces. Portion was perfect too. Shared restrooms is around the corner from there. read more
Inside 4th street market. Great food. Fast and friendly services. I got 2 mixed plate, one with slow cook pork and one with karagee fired chicken. Mixed plate came with pink pickle onion and choice of either veggie or Mac salad. Both slow cook pork and fired chicken were delicious. Portion was big enough for 1 adult to be full. Or 2 kids shared. Plenty of seatings place inside the 4th street market or outdoor. Outdoor has big screen TV and they had the soccer game on. (I just wish the 4th street market they turn off the music outside while the game was on.) read more
Located in 4th Street Market in Santa Ana, I really enjoyed this spot. I ended up getting a one-protein bowl with teriyaki chicken and spicy mac, and overall I was very satisfied with it. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. I especially loved the sauce that came with it, and it was my first time trying spicy mac. The mac actually was pretty spicy but it was good. I would definitely get this again. The food came out quickly, and for $15, I thought it was quite reasonable. read more

This spot is located inside of the 4th street market. Lots of variety in the 4th street market but I decided to try this place and it did not disappoint! They staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations. I ordered the chicken katsu with sesame honey sauce and it was delicious! Since moving here from Hawaii, I'm always on the lookout for some good Hawaiian grindz. Food worker Robert recommended the chicken karaage to me, so I decided to give it a go. I ordered using their tablet and was able to customize my order (no onions, no rice, please!) with ease. Kenny was so kind to include spicy mayo and sweet sauce on the side for me. The food was alright. Chicken karaage was crispy, a little overdone. Regular mac salad was good. Spicy mac salad tasted unusual (like if buffalo wings and macaroni had a baby?). Overall, a decent meal. I'm definitely stuffed. Thanks to Kenny and Robert for the great effort and service! :) read more

This place is so good! I actually fell in love with the 4th Street Market. Really cool area to grab food, drinks, and watch Sunday Night Football. The Katsu plate was really good. Very filling meal for one person. Definitely check out the 4th Street Market in Santa Ana. read more

Came to 4th Street Market for dinner and found this gem! The staff was friendly and helpful with giving recommendations. I ordered the chicken katsu plate which came with rice, macaroni, and a choice of sauce. I had a hard time deciding so the gentleman who assisted me at the counter gave both. I also got their seasonal drink which is a mango, guava, orange juice. Chicken katsu plate- The katsu had a crispy exterior and the meat inside was juicy and tender. The rice was soft and fluffy and the macaroni was creamy and paired beautifully with everything. The honey sesame sauce was sweet and the chili sauce was a good blend of tangy and spicy. Mango, guava, orange juice- This was nice and refreshing! Just the right amount of sweetness and the fruit flavors blended well. Great meal overall! read more

This is what I got at Fakas right there at the food court on 4th st in Santa Ana its garlic shrimp requested with no spicy. It is the BOMB!!!! Sooo Delicious !!! recommend recommend!!! Wow. The owner is a young Pacific Islander. He is so kind able to chat for a bit since it was early and not much crowd. He gave me a small spam item and it was so delicious also. I'm a happy lady. I checked out Faka's Island Grill for the first time on Saturday, 8/10/2024 right before 3:30PM. Luckily, my husband and I came at an off-time so there wasn't anyone else waiting to get their food, and our wait was after ordering was pretty quick! We ordered: Pork Belly Plate combo with Mac Salad + Drink $19.40 (price as of 8/2024 excl tax) - At first I wasn't aware that the pork belly was going to be chopped up into tiny pieces. They don't give you a lot of protein. The flavor was tasty but it wasn't exceptional. Mac Salad was good, nothing to complain about here. I think my husband enjoyed this meal more than I did. I did, however, love the pickled onions which brought in that sweet and sour tang and crunch with each bite. - I love spam masabis but I didn't really care for the Masubi here. The rice to spam ratio was not proportionate. The spam is thinner while there was too much rice. It wasn't jam packed with flavored. Customer Service: The guy who helped us wasn't a chipper kind of guy. He said that there wasn't a key in the cash register to press for the free drink with Yelp check-in. However, he still honored the yelp check-in and provided us with a free drink so I appreciated that! Overall, the food was decent but it wasn't my favorite. My review leans more of a 3.5, but I wasn't too impressed. read more

Honestly haven't had the chance to try any of their food, however we have tried their Ube Flan which is just incredible. It's hard to not eat the entire piece of Flan in one sitting. Their menu which depicts the flan does not give it enough justice and therefore my wife and I picked up a slice one day and have been hooked ever since. The service is fast, ambience is always great within the 4th St market, as we'd recommend this place to anyone in the area. We're grateful to have been able to stumble across this small little shop, you gotta try the Ube Flan asap!! read more

Disappointed - Shrimp Came Without Shells! I came here for the chicken katsu, but they were out, so I ordered the sweet chili shrimp instead. The flavor was okay, but I was surprised that the shrimp had no shells--I expected them to be served whole based on what I've seen. Instead, they were in a soggy batter, which really wasn't what I was hoping for. Pretty let down since the reviews had me excited. Maybe an off day, but not what I expected. read more

This was one of the stalls of my fiancé and I wanted to try at fourth Street market. We shared the chicken Katsu plate with the sweet and spicy sauce. The chicken was super crispy cooked well and the sauce was different, not like the traditional Katsu sauce, but I thought it was soooo good! Furikake rice and Mac salad were also pretty good! Definitely a spot I would try again when in the area. Knocked a star off for customer service. It was okaaaay but I was ignored for a good time before someone came over to assist. Just acknowledgement like "be with you in a moment" goes a long way in making you feel like you were at least seen! i saw them look at me but just left me standing there for a bit. read more

Made my annual pilgrimage to the Santa Ana Courthouse (because nothing says tradition like standing in line with paperwork), and decided to treat myself after with a stop at 4th Street Market. Ended up at Faka's Island Grill and grabbed the Spam Musubi--$6 for two solid pieces stacked with rice and glazed in teriyaki so shiny it might double as lip gloss. Salty, sweet, and hit the spot. Service was gas--even for my simple order, they had it out quick and with good energy. The ambiance matches the 4th Street vibe--colorful, artsy, and laid-back. Worth the stop if you're in the area dodging parking tickets or just hungry. read more

Nice little place with very courteous people working. Took one star off because it looks like most stuff here is on the spicy side. I got the span grilled cheese. It was really god except that my mouth was on fire! If you know me I am a NO SPICY girl. I wanted to get the pork one, but the cashier said it had alittle bit of spice. I then asked about the spam one and he said oh that one has no spice at all...well wrong o...just be for warned! Although it was good, I am glad that the stall next to them had free water! read more
Stopped by 4th Street for some lunch and found yet another gem inside. I got the Chicken Katsu with Furikake Rice and the Mac Salad. I added on a crispy masubi and drink to go with. Everything was super fresh and flavorful. Service was quick and friendly and the ambiance is that of 4th Street, food forward hang-out spot. read more

The service was really great the food was phenomenal! I did the 2 plate with the Karan chicken and the garlic shrimp the Mac salad and pickled onions. Thank god I asked for extra of the sesame sauce because one was not included. The sesame sauce with the katau was chefs kiss! The shrimp was delicious as well as the Mac salad and the pickled onions were perfect I've had picked onions before and didn't like but these were perfection! The food court was very very busy! It was a sat afternoon and they had live music definitely great if you like music we got our food to go highly recommend! read more

Does Faka's make their own furikake in house?
I believe it's sourced, but great question. Everything else (especially the sauces) seem to be home made.
Are they open for dine in?
Technically - not yet. 4th st market dining areas are all shut down because they are completing a refresh of the common areas. There are some open spaces in front of Yost theater to sit and eat.
Are there times right they don't open till 3pm?
Yes, correct. The actual building/suite houses two different restaurants. Charms has it from 8 to 3pm then Faka's takes over from there.
