These guys know how to serve Mediterranean! First time trying out Mediterranean Guys, so we did not know it was a "build-your-own". It is almost like a fast food Mediterranean place, but the food is fresh (and delicious!). We ordered to-go through the phone, and did not have any problems. Once my hubbie went to pick up, he told me it is already prepared food you can pick and choose from. More reasons to go in person next time. I got their 1/4 rotisserie chicken + 2 sides. The chicken was SO good! Very fresh, tender, and flavorful. Their sides are on the more bland side, but you can always season to your liking. Hubbie's gyro plate was so good too! More grubby, but sometimes grubby is even better. Their servings are generous! We each had some leftovers. I ordered the Shrimp kebab plate with half basmati rice and half brown rice, spicy bean salad, and potato salad - side sauces are the garlic, the tzatziki, and the green goddess - I can't pick just one because they're all so good. Everything is delicious. I don't know why but their shrimp is some of the best I've had from a Mediterranean restaurant, it is cooked perfectly. I am pescatarian and I am always on the hunt for delicious pescatarian meals in Orange County, this is a spot that I return to again and again. I've also had their salmon bowl, which is delicious as well, and my fiancé has had their rotisserie chicken and says it is very good. Although, there's plenty of parking. The area near Mediterranean Guys is pretty tight, and being so close to the exit toward Tustin/17th Street often causes traffic jams. Now once stepping inside, you're quickly greeted by a nice service staff and seems like the place is ran by one employee! She's certainly perky and helpful so kudos to her for holding up the fort for the venue. It's a build your bowl concept -- Your Way, Every Time :). You pick - bowl or place and depending on size you will get the option of one or two proteins, a couple sides and all toppings. The mini bowls starts at $14 and it's goes up from there. She ask you to start strong with the foundation of your bowl -- I recommend skip the greens but hey that's me. I tend to go half White Rice and Brown Rice. We ordered a mini bowl and a full plate, which let us try four different proteins between us: beef skewers, chicken skewers, lamb gyro, and spicy shredded chicken. We also shared the baklava for dessert. The fresh pita bread and spicy hummus was a nice touch, and the portion sizes were just right....I will definitely come back for more!! Here's why. the place is nice and clean and service was polite but the food is ok it's basically the subway of Mediterranean food. The gyro was barely warm almost cold and The chicken was kinda bland, the basmati rice was definitely NOT basmati rice (if you are familiar you know how soft and delicious basmati is) this poor rice was dry, compacted together and seemed to taste just like regular white rice that's been sitting in a pan forever but the hummus.. if got to say the hummus was the star over the dishes I ordered but that's besides the point, whatever. Having had and knowing the difference with GOOD Mediterranean food spots and this place just doesn't hit the rating for me. In my steak kabob plate were two skewers which were hefty, a generous portion of basmati rice, and I chose hummus and tabbouleh as my two sides. The steak was delicious and pretty large portions, they didn't skimp on the meat. The basmati rice was a little dry and unseasoned, but the brown rice was flavored and super moist. So we moved to this side of Santa Ana close to a year ago and this place is literally down the street from us. Every time I see it I always say I need to try it ... but never remember to. But I guess today was the day. I tried it. And now I'm mad at myself for not trying it sooner!!!!! The Staff: Upon entering, I was literally greeted by each member of the staff. It was 11:20am ish and not so busy yet. But just that welcoming vibe alone was a good start to my first experience here. The Menu: As some others have mentioned on Yelp, it's kind of Chipotle style where they have their salad/grain stations, you choose your protein (bowl, plate, wrap or salad), their sides and sauces. The food stations looked very clean and well organized. They also have some specials that I saw that I'll have to try next time. The Food: Amazing. I ordered the gyro plate that comes with 2 sides and 2 sauces. I opted for brown rice as my grain and for the sides I chose grape leaves and hummus. For sauces I chose garlic and tzatziki sauce. The meal even came complete with pita bread. Normally I don't expect much from brown rice because well ... it's just brown rice lol. But theirs was perfectly cooked and they don't cheap you out on anything. Meat flavor and quality were both good and also the grape leaves. Ahhh soo good. The Service: Well, I've already stated that they're very attentive and everyone was on point when it came to greeting. Even as I walked out the door, everyone said thank you. The Price: Honestly, not bad at all. For what I got it came out to be just a little over $16 with tax. That's a fairly cheap price to pay for quality healthy fast food. One of the specials I saw on the way out was a ¼ chicken combo + 1 side for $9.95. I feel like this place fits anyone's budget. I mean, 5 stars all around. I will definitely be coming back to try more items from their menu. So happy that I finally decided to try this place out. Sad that I never stopped by sooner.
