Fantastic Indian food. Dining room is creepy but ate there anyway - no biggie. Drove too far to just get carryout. Staff was really nice and accommodating. We had the tandoori chicken, excellent; chicken korma, creamy and lovely; butter chicken which we were fighting over the sauce. Even the kiddo was happy. Veggie shinkara (spelling) also spicy, crisp and hot. Overall I would give it 5 but I take one away for the weird dining room lol. Did notice a steady stream of carryouts the whole time. Overall, a very disappointing experience. I always try to be balanced when I leave a review, so I'll start off by mentioning what went well. Our server was very polite, and checked on us several times during the meal. The restaurant was empty, so this wasn't much of a challenge. However I've had meals in empty restaurants before and had bad service, so I appreciated his attentiveness. Parking was also relatively easy, and in this part of town that's something to be taken with appreciation. Finally, the naan bread and rice were both relatively well made. Again I mention these items because I've had them not be so well-made in other restaurants. However the most important part of any meal in an Indian restaurant is the sauce of your entrée. Sadly on this point the restaurant failed miserably. The sauces were drippy and lacked the right flavor balance. The chicken had a "few days old" texture to it, and was not nearly as tender as it should've been. The best rice and bread in the world cannot redeem a poorly made sauce. Additionally, we got some unfriendly glances from a few people drinking coffee at another table. I realize I'm not from India or Pakistan, but I've never been looked at quite this way at other Indian restaurants. This is the restaurant that made me believe Indian cuisine is perfect... just perfect. Terrific food, good portions, cheaper than most Indian restaurants around the Detroit area (Chicken curry for $6!? Hallelujah!), great presentation, awesome service (waiters are always attentive and friendly), very clean dining room. Really... I want you to go here! It seems they don't get as many customers as they deserve. Anyway, I've had the Butter Chicken (spectacular with rich tomato/butter taste and succulent pieces of chicken), Lamb Biryani (a favorite of my SO), Lamb Korma (full of flavor and tender lamb), and a couple different appetizers. The world turns and the haters hate, but verily I say unto thee that Kabob House ranks among the more delicious, more reliable, and more affordable restaurants. Located in what I'm pretty sure is a former funeral home converted into a restaurant that is also home to the Bangladeshi American Public Affairs Committee, or BAPAC, Kabob House serves up its own take on what might be a familiar "Indian restaurant" menu plus some Bengali treats. It is also great to not have to leave the great Detroit-Hamtramck-Highland Park Conurbation to venture into the suburbs for food from the subcontinent, something that has frustrated me since moving here. Service ranges from slow to interminably slow, but always friendly. I've never had anything on the menu that was actually bad, but certain things are more interesting than others. The butter chicken is a bit tastier than the tikka masala, which I've found a bit generic. For the vegetarians among ye: I am not a fan of eggplant, but I love the baingan bhartha. The bhindi (okra) masala is also great, and the varities of dall are all unique and delicious. The one with yellow lentils is less remarkable because it's a little bit more soupy and I typically prefer my lentil concoctions THICC. Tandoori dishes are always a safe bet, and they manage with the fish quite well, too. I have yet to try their American menu (which includes, variously, Niman Ranch New York Strip and jambalaya!), but I assume as I am there quite frequently, I will, one day. They never have them, but if they do, make sure you get a six-pack of the rasgulla, which I maintain ranks among the most delicious confections ever created-- a luscious, succulent rolled ball of durum wheat flour saturated in some mixture of syrup with rose and possibly cardamom. Rasgulla varies from region to region in the Indian subcontinent, so, while I can't say exactly what variety these are, they always taste slightly different depending on where you find them. Contrast with the more widely available gulab jamun, a more donutty sweet also often found at Indian restaurants. read more

The service here is extremely slow and of poor quality. We had to wait 10 minutes for our rice while our entrees we're sitting in front of us getting cold. The entrees took a long time to get to the table as well and there were only 5 patrons in the restaurant. This place serves chicken chopped, with the bone in. Many pieces were nothing but bone. You have to pay $1 more for "boneless" chicken. The quantities were skimpy, the server spoke very poor English and barely understandable. It seemed to us they were surprised to see anyone come in and actual order food. They were out of Butter Chicken. An Indian restaurant out of Butter Chicken is like Burger King out of burgers. The place smelled like moth balls and there were people walking around talking loudly, working on some dining room next door. The whole experience was terrible and the food was just average at best. The food was actually pretty good (though not amazing, despite the fact we were *really* hungry) and fairly typical for authentic Indian food, which is one of my favorite cuisines. I thought the vegetarian dishes were better than the meat dishes, but we ended up with way too much rice. The two biriyanis tasted pretty much the same. The breads and mango lassis were very good. We ordered through Yelp last fall (10/2016), and delivery was painfully slow. I think I called three times; the second time I asked to cancel, but they said they had already completed the order and it was on its way. Half an hour later, I called again. I would probably not order from here again, though I would consider dining on site. I hate leaving a 2-star review - I would give 2-1/2 stars if I could! Located right in the heart of Hamtramck. Walked in and was greeted instantly(friendly). I ordered the Tikka chicken briyani(not pictured,but looks just like the tandoori chicken briyani), tandoori and regular chicken briyani.Couldn't tell to much difference in the flavor of the dishes even though prepared differently. While being very flavorful. The wait was 20 to 35 minutes. This is my second time returning and just like my first time the wait was the same. Assuming it was made to order. Great food, great portions for the price. Good place to eat and dine in, but the wait is a huge factor for me. The buffet changes up every time I'm in there, which gives me lots of opportunities to try a wide range of their delicious food. They seem to do a brisk delivery business, but the dining room is never crowded. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Food wise this is an OK restaurant but there are several shortcomings. 1) Takeout portion size - even with the small containers they somehow fail to give you a good amount of protein but an ample amount of bones! 2) Restaurant cleanliness - ignorance is bliss on this one but the place could use a good deep cleaning 3) Price - For the location, portion size it be a bit cheaper. Amazing! I would recommend take out, and they deliver via grub hub. They have an extensive menu and what sounds like an amazing lunch buffet. We had the vegetable singara which is essentially a veggie samosa, mattar panner which has been my life time favorite and this place held up to my standard, and the chicken biryani which was spot on- how ever I would recommend ordering this dish boneless.... Mouchak's is hands down the best Indian food in the metro area, and the service is wonderful. Highlights include aloo matar gobi, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala. Your glass of water is always full, and the servers are so polite. A note: their credit card machine does not leave a spot for tips so either tell them in advanced how much you want to add or bring cash for tips. The lunch buffet starts at 11:30, and they really are open til 11pm, which I appreciate when I'm tipsy and craving deliciousness. To the person who said they saw roaches yesterday I mentioned that to them and they said they sprayed pesticide a few days ago. So that explains that. I've passed this place a few times and have been meaning to check it out. Today my partner and I decided to try their lunch buffet, so we could try several different items at once. Overall I enjoyed the experience, and I would definitely go back. There were a few misses, but also some really good hits. The thing that stuck out for us when we first went in, as others have said, the place is quiet as a tomb. We were the only people there, and we were sort of uncomfortable having any real conversation, because there was no background noise at all. On to the food. I wish that the food on the buffet had labels, because while I could clearly identify a few of the items, most of them I was just guessing at. The first dish I tried was their chicken selection, which I am guessing was either Butter Chicken or Chicken Tikka Masala. This one was a miss for me. The spices and flavor were all great, but the chicken was very dry and stringy. I am not sure if it was a matter of cooking too long, or storing the chicken in the freezer too long. The next was a Lamb curry of some kind. The lamb was very tender, and melted in your mouth. It was spiced beautifully. I have no complaints about the preparation of this dish. My partner particularly enjoyed it. I personally am not generally a fan of lamb, so I didn't care much for it. But that is due to my own preferences rather than anything on the restaurant's part. On to the Vegetarian Dishes. The Aloo Matar Gobi was very good, moister than I expected, and again for me a perfect level of spice. The Matar Paneer was by far my favorite dish on the buffet. The paneer was nice and firm, and held up well to the peas. So often at indian restaurants, the paneer just sort of crumbles into nothing in the dish, but the paneer here was firm and tasty. I went back for thirds. The Chana Dal was another win for me. my partner didnt' care as much for it because it had Okra, which he doesn't like, but I thought it was very good. Finally, the Vegetable Singara, which was another miss for the both of us. The pastry had this really odd chemically taste, like the water used to make it had a lot of chlorine. I'm not sure what the issue was, but something was clearly off. I look forward to trying this restaurant again soon and seeing what new items I get to try read more

Overall - food was good, but not worth the wait. Ordered takeout on a Friday evening via Eatstreet. Was given a 20 minute time estimate, and called to confirm timing. I walked into the restaurant 25 minutes later and was told my order would be up shortly and that I could take a seat. After watching several other people come and go, I finally got my food about 30 minutes late. Since it was my first time trying this place, I decided to play it safe and ordered paneer makhani, veggie samosas and garlic naan. The makhani was just ok - more tomatoey and far less creamy than I'd prefer, and although I asked for medium spice there was almost no kick. Naan and samosas were great, though I wish there had been some chutney on the side with them. Prices are incredibly reasonable - $14 for all the food above, which was enough for 2 meals. read more

Y'all. Full disclosure I don't know how the food tastes. The location while in Hamtramck and therefore getting a pass in a lot of ways still leaves a lot to be desired. But the dealbreaker friends of Yelp, are roaches. Roaches all over the counter. So many roaches (baby ones, yes, but still roaches) that I walked in to pick up an order and had to turn around and walk out.
