First off I want to say I love Kabuki and have gone here for years. But, Saturday night I got a sushi roll and got SICK from it almost immediately after! It was take out called the Out Of Control Roll. The tuna on top was gray so I didn't eat all of it but it did make me very sick. I was really upset because I've never had bad sushi from them before and I thought they had quality salmon/tuna especially seeing it was a $16 roll. read more

Been getting takeout from here for the last year and honestly I wouldn't keep ordering except the food scene in this town is terrible. I find the food under seasoned and way over priced. Some of the portions are just a joke (the "duck rolls" app says it has 4 rolls but really it's just 4 tiny slices that were probably just 1 roll to start. For $10.50!!), and their noodle dishes are awful. Sushi is ok. The only thing that keeps me coming back besides the fact that my only other option is New Dragon is the Szechuan dumplings. Which are in a peanut sauce that's creamy and delicious, but again...portion is tiny. This place is just taking advantage of being the only Japanese restaurant around, it'd never make it if there was competition. Walking distance from my house so I guess I'm doomed. read more

I was surprised to see quite a few people here on a Monday night since my best friend & I just came here on a whim. We both shared appetizers -- vegetable gyoza & Szechuan pork dumplings. Both were delicious -- and the dumplings were spicy! I ordered the dynamite and Narragansett roll. Both rolls seemed small in portion, however, as I was consuming the rolls I realized that they were actually really filling me up and that they didn't seem so small after all. My friend ordered the yaki udon, which also seemed like a small portion as well. We also had hot green tea a long with the meal which added a nice touch. Service was quick and attentive. This is my very favorite sushi restaurant in all RI. I come here so much they even know my name! Like Cheers! The menu is extensive. The raw fish is as fresh as fresh can be. Their tempura and spider rolls are beyond compare. I frequently order TriColor Three Ways. It's enough for two but I've been known to gobble up the whole thing. It's sushi, sashimi, and a big fat roll all made from tuna salmon and yellow tail and comes with soup or salad. At lunchtime I order the sushi sashimi combo. Also comes with soup or salad. We just had Tri Color 3-Way tonight and added a delicious spider roll and seaweed salad. It was phenomenal, as always. Really love this place. (And when you spend $30 you get a stamps on an online card that entitled you to a $30 gift card. After buying so much sushi at Kabukii, I've gotten quite a few gift cards! read more

I really want to like Kabuki more than I do. It's a cool place and definitely has a following in Wakefield, but the food could be better. A little more finesse and a little more value for the money would help. We had the chicken and lettuce wraps, which were okay but really maybe two tablespoons of chicken, lots of onion and water chestnuts. Also it really should be bib lettuce so that you can wrap it, the romaine lettuce just breaks when you try. Then we had vegetable dumplings (which were the best food of the night) and finally some shrimp tempura rolls which were super overcooked, way too breaded and just not tasty. Come on Kaukui! A crisp Monday evening, my mouth salvaged in anticipation as I waited for my 7:30 reservation. If you're going here be ready for a wait. After the exquisite mile and a half run in the shoulder of the highway from my home to the establishment, my body was fully prepared to indulge on this meal, but was ordered to wait outside for an additional 30 minutes. I sat in the parking lot while my stomach growled until the point of near defeat but instead asked the lady and was sat. The service at this establishment is unlike anything I've experienced, only receiving half of the tables orders and had one order delivered to our table over an hour and a half after we ordered, and after everyone else had already finished our meals. As a last minute olive branch we were offered a child's graham cracker pudding cup to compensate for the long wait on the one meal, but it was too late, we were already leaving. Accepting defeat to this daunting experience, waiting for an extra 30 minutes, waiting over an hour after ordering to see my friend leaving with their full meal in a takeout box, the child's pudding cup, all of this added to the real effect of this establishment, safe to say I will not be returning. read more

The food was pretty good, but the pineapple sorbet dessert was an absolute rip off! The picture made it look like a regular sized pineapple with a generous portion of sorbet .... what came out was a miniature pineapple, smaller than any of us had ever seen! The sorbet portion was tiny .... there was more whipped cream on the side than there was of the dessert itself. A few bites of sorbet for $9 - I was more than a little upset. Visually this place is a 5 Star, it's very nice and contemporary/clean inside. Another place where you walk in and have a slight hint of how much money you'll shell out for the food! We went there for Valentine's day for a girls night out. It was nice, the place wasn't as busy for such a busy night. I knew someone working there so she did all the ordering, we ordered a bunch of sushi and fried rice. The sushi was very different, it tasted fresh and different because of the ingredients they used that I haven't tasted elsewhere. I also had toro there 3 pieces for the mere price of $19. Overall I liked the sushis, the prices however made me rethink ever going back. The fried rice however was not so good...I wouldn't recommend it, it was a very weird texture rice, very hard and even though it was so brown, it was not good. Had some green tea ice green which always moves me the right way! I love it! I'll attach pictures of some of our order, the food was very well presented. read more

We placed an order 2 days ahead of time for a large order (8 entrees and a sushi platter). We arrived to pick it up at the time scheduled, 5pm. When we arrived, the staff realized that no one had started the order, but went on to lie to us saying "just 10 more mins". When we walked in, the sushi chefs were standing against the back wall. Someone went to them and told them about our order, they went into action to make the sushi that clearly had not yet been started. Someone came out to give us an update - this guy appeared to be as a high as a kite. We didn't get the food until around 5:40. With graduation starting at 6pm, we had to rush to not miss the ceremony. When we finally received the food, it was wrong. 8 containers of fried rice instead of soups. The wrong sushi platter with less rolls and no sushi than we ordered. Overall, the food was actually pretty good. Had it been on time and correct (or even if they were just honest with us), this could have been a 5-star experience. read more

The decor seems very appealing... I'm giving this restaurant four stars simply because I haven't taste all of Rhode Island sushi just yet. Keep in mind that I am from Chicago and wild about sushi! I tasted all of the 5 star sushi restaurants in Chicago... even had the head chef of Japonais (Vegas, Chicago & New York) cook for me. I basically have it twice every week. LOL. Kabuki is enough to satisfy a sushi craving and since there's nothing like it in the URI-Narrgansett area, it's probably going to be your best bet. For apps, their crab rangoons are pretty good. Their sushi isn't stellar but isn't terrible either. Late night menu starts at 9:30 typically, although their hours may have changed. The late night menu and the lunch menu is what makes Kabuki worth it. Until close, you can get 3 rolls and one of their cocktails for $15-$16. I usually get a spicy tuna roll (they're interestingly crunchy), a Philadelphia roll (quite heavy on the cream cheese), and their signature American Dream roll with a strawberry mojito. The cocktails and are short on booze, but I love the different flavors of mojitos they have. Their American Dream roll is my favorite and has shrimp inside topped with lobster. It's SO GOOD! The reason why Kabuki receives three stars from me is because they seem to lack consistency. You'll go one time and the sushi will seem fresh. If you go on another the day, the rolls might be dull and falling apart. If you want good sushi, I'd go to Late Night Kabuki and take your chances. read more

Headed in here for a drink and some sushi with my date. **Note that this review is for time spent only in the bar area. I don't have much to say. We sat in the bar area. Felt caught back in the 80's with a glass enclosure - which wouldn't have been unpleasant - had the windows not had broken seals and clouded with moisture from within. Atmosphere - zero. Bartender recommended a duck roll which was supposed to be a Japanese / Indian fusion roll. I envisioned crispy duck rolled up in some naan...or other fresh Indian bread. It ended up being shredded duck rolled up in a multi-layer egg roll wrapper - or maybe it was Indian bread at some point. But if it was, it was too oily to be recognized as such. The Kabuki Roll was a nice mix of shrimp tempura, lobster and cream cheese (working from memory on the highlights) put together in a nori wrapper. Generous portion of seafood in each slice but the wrapper didn't contain the whole deal and it was a bit messy to wrangle in one bite without having it fall apart. My drink was nice...I don't remember what I had. Which means it wasn't objectable, but not remarkable. Now I remember - Jack 'n Diet. My husband ordered a draft Blue Moon and it came served in a half pint mug. Hmmm. Found that odd since they charged full pint price. Bartender was pleasant. Did his job well enough. But this place would not be on the list as great enough for me to recommend. read more

I love coming here with my friends and when my order is right it's great but this place CONSTANTLY messes up my order. I always ask for gluten free soy sauce to be made with every item I order. Came here with a friend and our server was very kind. The food is pretty good. We didn't quite know how to use our Groupon for dinner, so we asked our server how it worked. He went to ask the manager for assurance; the manager ended up yelling at him. We could hear him from our table. We felt terrible. I overheard the manager talking in the back about our server and ourselves to the other staff members in their native tongue. It's one of those things you need to be careful with because you never know who could be understanding. You can judge a lot from a person by how they treat other people. Same goes for anything else. I'm hesitant to give such a low rating, but based on my experiences there, this is one of the few restaurants that deserves it. I'd been here a few times with friends and had never been particularly impressed. The food was good, but not for the portion size you receive. Then we received a gift certificate, and figured we'd give it another chance. It seemed the best time for us to try some different dishes for the best value was to go during lunch and try some of their lunch combination plates. We headed over for a late lunch...and they gave us the more expensive, more limited happy hour menu instead. When we finally got their attention and requested the lunch menu, the seemed very put out to bring it to us and just dropped them on the table. The service to take our order took forever (even though the place was mostly empty), and water glasses were apparently too much effort to refill (even after asking). We ordered the maki lunch with the spicy tuna and salmon avocado roll, and the wok stir lunch with basil chicken. The food itself was just okay...we eat a lot of Asian food, and this didn't have nearly enough flavor compared to other Asian restuarants. The soup and stirfry also didn't come out very hot. The main reason that we will never be going back though came when it was time to pay. We gave them our gift card (which covered all but a few dollars of our meal), and they told us that they couldn't accept any gift cards right then. The person who has to ring them through the register was off that day. I'm sorry, but it's just poor business to not honor the gift cards you sell. I can see if your computers are down, and you have a sign up and let people know ahead of time...but this wasn't the case. We told them that was all we had and since they had issued it, they needed to honor it. After 10 minutes of waiting (and overhearing heated discussion at the register), they finally found a way to run the gift card. No appologies for the inconvenience or the wait were ever offered.
