This is a beautiful restaurant with delicious food and outstanding service. Every time we eat here it is so good.

Inconsistent. I had the same dish (Pad See Ew) from Kachai three times now. I always requested medium spice level, but got it with no spice, medium spice, and most recently with crazy spice. The most recent order was caked in red pepper paste and was inedible, I threw it in the trash. I like a good amount of heat and usually add a little bit of sambal or chili paste to my food, but the most recent order was beyond Thai Spicy. Also, every time I order online, there is an option to add on utensils. Guess what, they will never add utensils or napkins to your online order, even though you selected that option. Not great, will not order again. read more

Overall Rating - 8.67 Food - 8/10 - Everything was very delicious, the only thing that was very noticeable was the chili crisp, heavenly beef, and pad thai. - The heavenly beef was very delicious, the beef was incredibly tender and flavorful. - The pad thai was very delicious as well - The crispy garlic chicken was good, but I have had much much better crispy garlic chicken at other restaurants. - The eggplant was very delicious as well. - The tom kha was incredibly delicious and one of the better tom khas that I have had. - The chili crisp was amazing! You have to ask for it and it is so good, I may have eaten all of it lol, if they decide to sell it I would buy so much of it. ‍‍Accessibility - 9/10 - Quite accessible, the tables are a little tight next to each other but nothing that can't be fixed. The restaurant is ground level with no stairs or steps. - Sensory wise, the lights are dim, the music is low. ‍Service - 8/10 - The service was good, I think the section we were sat in was someone else's that they were not covering very well so many of the other waiters had to pitch in and help, as we had different people throughout the whole process. Despite the condition they were very professional and great servers. Ambiance - 9/10 - Very pretty, nice music, good lighting. Parking - 10/10 - it is in a shopping center so there is lots of free close parking nearby. Price - 8/10 - Because it is a little more upscale it is definitely it a bit more expensive and is about $30ish a person. read more

This is only my 2nd time doing a review. I've been to Kachai Thai often, though. The food was really good this time. I shared their chicken satay, had their Thai fried rice with beef, and their mango sticky rice. If you want the fried rice with beef, it's $2 more. The beef was just ok, though. The chicken is better with it. The only thing that wasn't good was the wait for the entrees. Seemed a little long this time. Other than that, the service was good. They refilled our drinks pretty quickly. I'm not sure if they have ac, I was sweating a lot. It was kind of a hot day. read more

Noodles were pretty mushy and over cooked, broccoli undercooked and very crunchy. The best Thai food in Kitsap County - IMHO They start doing take out lunches finally and it's a favorite. The cashew chicken was ordered medium spicy and was perfect for my wife's taste, I like it hot and ordered it that way - it's a good five star hot. They call it lunch and charge lunch prices, but these are dinner portions! What you see in the picture is leftovers enough for a second meal for each of us. Do yourself a favor have the best Thai in town and in the process help a really good local restaurant survive the pandemic. read more

Decent food - horrible service. Staff is always rude, inconsistent and act like they're so busy. This place is hardly "packed" and yet the service is terribly slow for everything (drinks, food, even being sat at a table). "It'll be a 25 minute wait" I'm told as I look into the restaurant with half of the tables empty and unsat. Want to order for delivery? Can't. They constantly shut down their doordash service due to "high demand". Dang. This place must be raking in MONEY to close a delivery service option for people who don't want to/can't go eat in a restaurant. I've never heard of a place closing any take out option due to them being sooooo busy. Please. I've lived in bigger cities (Seattle, Austin, San Antonio, Houston) with busier places than this who will take any order by any means and produce quality food. Want to order take out due to closed delivery service? Can't. Nobody will ever answer the phone here. Must be because they're soooo busy trying to meet their "high demand" of in store patrons. (Remember, only half the restaurant is filled) And if/when someone answers the phone, they're rude, they rush you to finish the order and it's a 45 minute wait. Just to get home to find that parts of the order is missing. (Ordered 4 entrees and got only ONE tiny box of rice. Not to mention the other items that were missing) What a shame that they do make good food with such horrible service. Seems to me they take advantage of the fact that they're one of the only quality Thai food places in the Poulsbo area and bank on that fact and have the mindset of "deal with it". And before the manager or whoever comments on reviews does so - I will say that this entire review is based off a multitude of visits. Wow! Found this place online and glad we went. That was two weeks ago and we went back again today. The food was incredible....we were there for lunch but after speaking to Eddie, our very nice server, we were able to order from the dinner menu. We ordered the pork satay, Tom yum soup for starter. My husband ordered the coriander beef and I ordered the boar pork from the grill menu. Even though they were busy, the service was fast and we were waited on immediately by Eddie. The entree came about 20 minutes and by then we were finished with the starters. Everything we ordered was amazing and we have already recommended to our friends. My husband has actually had thai food when he visited Thailand on numerous occasions and he said this is the best outside of Thailand! Today, we ordered the Shaking beef, Seafood Hot pot, pork satay! I'm a big fan of Thai cuisine, and I've been to many of the well-known Thai restaurants on the west coast, including Pok Pok in Portland (RIP), Night + Market in LA (so good), and Kin Len Thai Night Bites in Seattle (excellent). However, in my humble opinion, Kachai Thai Kitchen tucked away in Poulsbo is even better than these other acclaimed spots. I visited Kachai last night since I was staying on Bainbridge Island and had an amazing dining experience. From the moment you walked in through the stylish horizontal wood-paneled doors, everything was great. We had crab wontons as an appetizer and they were fried to the perfect crispness and paired with a sweet-tangy sauce. For entrees we chose the boar collar, chicken panang curry, and pad kee mao. The boar collar was so tender and flavorful, and paired with some sautéed veggies. The chicken panang curry had the right balance of heat and sweetness from the peanut sauce, and it was packed with chicken and veggies. I'm a big fan of pad kee mao, and Kachai absolutely nailed it. Great flavor and lots of meat and veggies to compliment the wide rice noodles. For dessert we had a mango sticky rice that was the perfect "capper" for our meal. The restaurant offers Singha beer and a good selection of wines. We had their Chardonnay and dry rose, and both were great pairings to the Thai food. The interior of the restaurant is stylishly decorated with eye-catching light fixtures overhead and small lanterns strung through the dining room. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. If I could give this place 6 stars I would. If I lived nearby it would definitely become one of my regular favorites. For now I will just keep dreaming about the next time I'm able to return. read more

Wow, what a find! Came to Poulsbo for a quick overnight and stumbled on Kachai via yelp. Beautiful decor inside, feels like fine dining with the dim lighting and gold accents. Service was beyond friendly and attentive, and the food...oh the food!! Some of the best Thai food we had ever had. Prices were a little high for small town, but would definitely return to enjoy the incredible food agin. read more

The food at Kachai Thai is consistently good and the service is always outstanding. I have been there many times and this review is long overdue. I recall a couple years ago asking for heat, and they walked me through the whole spice situation, culminating in me getting a Thai red chili on the side. I think about those conversations every time I think about this spot, they are great. I remember a few days ago they were clearly understaffed and had a ton of customers, including a very cranky guy. That means we're picky when it comes to our Thai restaurants so when stumbled upon this small town thai restaurant that boast elegant decors and even more promising online reviews, we just had to. My wife and I had a spectacular night at Kachai Thai last night. It was quite busy for a Wednesday evening and our server was a nice young man with long hair who was very attentive and knowledgeable. We ordered the Siam Jasmine Sour which was a complex and delicate cocktail that was so smooth. I believe who must be the manager on duty was a young man as well named Andrew who took the time to check in and chat with us and made sure our experience was pleasant. It felt great to be recognized by multiple people! The food was tremendous with bursting flavors and fantastic presentations. The ambiance was beautiful and brought a feeling of the tropics to a stormy Poulsbo area. We loved this place and will be back soon! read more

When we first arrived we were promptly seated and, given menu's and water then told our server would be there shortly. We waited almost 10 minutes. Granted it was a little busy. But if they had time to stand around at the front podium and chit chat, clear two tables beside us they had plenty of time to take our orders. By then we think it was the manager that asked us if we needed anything and I said we have been waiting to give our order. She then looked surprised by my tone. You don't make customers wait to take their orders. When the food finally came it was ok at best. We order three chicken pad Thai's and one chicken yakisoba (to go). Then asked what level of spiciness we wanted. We wanted the pad Thai spicy (medium) but not the yakisoba. But apparently since my tone was not to their liking they put all the spice in the yakisoba to piss us off. My daughter does not like her food spicy and that's what she had. So would I recommend this place. HELL NO. If I could give negative stars I would. My family and I will not be returning or recommending this establishment. read more

I can't cook Thai and if did, I probably couldn't do it justice like Kachai does. I really don't have any complaints and only have had good experience here! I really would like to thank Andrew for being such a great server. As for the food, the garlic chicken is delicious--a bit on the sweet side but I will just up the spice next time to balance it out. Awesome. Just awesome! Went here for lunch today and I'm very glad I did. I'd heard so many good things about this spot over the years, and now I wanted something zippy and flavorful to refresh the palate after the holiday feasting. My daughter has a favorite Thai place in Port Townsend that she goes to so I gave her the options of which dishes we'd try today. She opted for the Crispy Garlic Chicken and I had the Panang Curry with Beef. We were given the choice of a salad or soup to start and we decided to try one of each. Both were a great choice but I really loved the dressing on the Salad. When our entrees came, they were both beautifully presented. And, both were so tasty! Very generous portions as well. My only observation was that, at three stars spiciness, I couldn't have gone for four. But, overall, it was a party for the tastebuds and both I and my daughter enjoyed every bite! The tea I ordered came in a personal french press and was perfect. Service was really good, too, and I'm glad we came early because it got busy. My only surprise was, when the bill was presented, that both my daughter's pop and my tea were both rung up $.25 more than the menu had said, and there was a $1.50 upcharge on my beef in the Curry even though I could have sworn beef and chicken were listed as meat choices. Overall pretty minor, but it was a bit strange. I didn't bring it up with our server because it really was only a $2.00 addition and perhaps it was just my mistake. I am really looking forward to going back and trying some more options. I was also very pleased to see that they have my favorite Chardonnay by the glass...dinner next time, for sure. read more

Visited on Valentine's Day 2024 Initially I had made the mistake and thought this placed closed at 9pm. We walked in at 7:45 thinking we had time as we were just passing through and needed a meal. I asked the host if seating was still available as it was busy and Valentine's Day. We got seat immediately and host was quick and kind. Upon our server visiting the table he offered us a beverage, no beverage menu and I believe just wine and beer. No cider, mocktails or cocktails. The menu was a bit confusing as far as the entree option on each menu stating a side of white rice came with it but did not realize it was a smaller shared side. Chef walked by and gifted us more rice which was very nice! I expected for $50 per person to receive my own side of rice per price. Food was delicious, I did not enjoy my first salad option and asked if I could please get the other option. I don't think anything was wrong with it, just did not fit my tastebuds. It was exchanged no problem and I am happy to pay for the food wasted. There was 3 tables left at 9pm when we had gotten the bill. The bill was responsibly priced and we were accidentally double charged for a glass of wine but the server quickly took care of it. After presenting the card for payment they said that it had declined and another form was needed. This card had no issues being issued during the day.:. We gave them our next card and same story. We waited for about 20-30 minutes and missed our show at a nearby theater waiting for the to fix the issue. We did not have cash as it was posted that card was available for payment. They asked us to come back the following morning when we were on vacation and our ID showed we were not from the area. They also took a picture of our ID's as if we had done something wrong. On our way out of town the following morning we stopped to talk to the manager about possible compensation for our time as we had lost our tickets for the show the night before and our now spending our morning addressing this issue. I had asked the host to have the manager contact me and I'd be happy to then pay over the phone. Later that day, it being our VACATION I missed a called from the restaurant. They left a voicemail and texted my partner and I "Heard you stopped by Kachai but did not pay. I would appreciated if you get this done asap. Binh " When I returned the call it was very hostile as if I was trying to steal from them. I disputed with the chef(?) not the manager about quality of service near the end of our meal. Him saying nothing wrong on their part, which there was not but when there is systematic failures you should take care of the guest who are here on their unpaid time and are paying for the service. In my opinion he was rude and defensive instead of understanding we are paying a lot of money for this meal. He also was extremely rude saying we came in before closing, when there was a full restaurant and we specifically asked if they were still seating guest for dinner. As a former server I have the right to refuse service if need be and they should have done so if they were uncomfortable with us as I was confused about hours. He agreed to take 10% off to "Make me happy". In reality this restaurant should reconsider how they talk to guest and address their issues. If this was a quick dinner in and out cheap I wouldn't have thought twice about it. But this restaurant chose to do a specialty menu and courses meals to provide an experience.I think their service should reflect the company values and goals. read more

Just got takeout of yellow curry and chicken spring rolls. While the curry had some flavor, potatoes in it completely ruined it. Bok choy or broccoli would add color, texture with a crunch and flavor instead of the potatoes which were in abundance with very few pieces of chicken.
