    Chicken Vindaloo
    Ashley B.

Solid. I only ordered one item for lunch and it was so delicious and warming on this snowy day that I will be back to make my way through the menu! I'm not sure why, but I'm usually hesitant to order from places that have more than one location. I think I just expect the quality to go down, however, that was not the case with this place! I ended up getting the Chicken Vindaloo. The chicken & potatoes were super tender, all smothered in a THICK curry-like sauce that had a nice heat and touch of clove! It came with a large side of the fluffiest basmati rice I've ever been served! Note, when you order takeout make sure to put what spicy level you want in the instructions section! I just decided on a medium level and next time might request more heat!

Amazing food. We had chicken vindaloo, chicken Tikka Masala, basmati rice and garlic Naan. The chicken, sauce, rice, Naan were very fresh and delicious. We chose spice level 2 and 3 out of 5. I like spicy food but 3 was too much for me and 2 was too much for my wife. Even so we devoured everything. Portion sizes were generous. Service was friendly. Restaurant is basic but clean. There are 7 tables for dining in. The takeout business was very busy with people coming in continuously.

The food was good, but I wouldn't recommend dining in. The staff was too busy with helping drivers for third-party delivery orders to provide attention to the customers in the restaurant. Half the restaurant was closed off because they don't offer the buffet service anymore. The water we got with our meal was warm bottles of Costco water.

Hyderabad: it's Hyderagood! :-) (Awkward pause) Thus, yet another rejected spec jingle (i.e., bad dad joke) goes by the wayside, but that's all right. Their food is excellent, whether you're dining in or taking it to go. Dining in is currently a very sparse experience: few tables, remodeling in seemingly eternal progress (or unused stuff is stored in general view) and service is polite, but infrequently seen. Takeout is a better option at this stage of the game. Of the food, distinctive mention goes to their Hyderabad Special Gobi 65 appetizer. This is essentially Gobi Manchurian, with the spicy coating, but without the sweetness (or cloying syrup sometimes): it is what cauliflower should be. Their Peshwari naan is also excellent. The food is very tasty overall and I recommend it.

Vegetable samosa ($7 for three), vegan by default. Tasty and nicely done.

This restaurant is tucked away in a corner of a giant Target parking lot. It's easy to miss, especially as it's blocked by a low hill. The interior is amazingly drab: zero decorations. It's just tables and chairs with four walls. But the food is good and they label their vegan options. The vegetable samosa ($7 for three) was savory and nicely done. The masala dosa ($11) is vegan by default and while I liked the interior filling, the crepe portion was too thick. That said, it wasn't terrible. The vegetable coconut curry ($12) was superb: addictive and umami and reminiscent of a Thai red curry. Get this dish spicy, though; the sweetness of the coconut milk was tempered by the chili pepper. I wish the dish had more vegetables, but it was still great. The chana masala ($12) was a tad watery but fine; the dal palak ($12) was heartier and goes nicely over rice. The baingan bhartha ($12) is a smokey eggplant dish that is borderline overpowering in its smokiness (and vinegar-y undertone), but it grew on me. Lastly, the chapathi ($1.50) was excellent: perfect thickness and nice chew. Ultimately, this is some of the better North Indian food in the Twin Cities. India Palace on Hennepin is also decent. If you want the freshest and lightest option around, check out Gorkha Palace in Northeast Minneapolis (which is Nepalese, but fairly similar to North Indian cuisine).

Garlic naan, Samosa Chat, Fish Tikka Masala, Gobi 65 Biryani

Hyderabad quickly became a COVID takeout favorite and is our overall favorite Indian restaurant in the Twin Cities! We kept passing Hyderabad when we got pickup orders from Target, and I am now remorseful of that time spent NOT eating their food. Everything we've had has been so flavorful and the servings sizes are abundant. I'm a carnivore, but I usually order all vegetarian here because the robust flavors make me not miss meat at all. Like I said, we've loved everything we've tried, but our must haves so far are the Samosa Chat (in layman's terms: fried veggie dumplings topped with chickpea salad and chutneys) and Gobi 65 Biryani (basmati rice packed with aromatics, veggies, and beautifully cooked cauliflower). We've also thoroughly enjoyed their palak paneer, fish tikka masala, garden vegetable curry, vegetable coconut curry, and of course garlic naan. I love their food so much that while I'm eating it for dinner, I get SO excited thinking about eating it again for lunch the next day. I can't wait until the pandemic ends and we can order a humongous feast to share with friends.

I ordered via GrubHub and while you always know that things aren't quite going to be as good delivered as they are fresh out of the kitchen, I was pleasantly surprised with Hyderabad. I went with the Chicken Vindaloo (extra spicy) with a side of onions. The dish ($12.95) was served with basmati rice and was piping hot by the time that it hit my door from the 'burbs. While the Vindaloo was not quite as hot as I'd like (I eat extremely hot South Indian foods), it was not overwhelmingly rich and was loaded with chicken. The potatoes in the dish were a nice compliment and the gravy was enough to simply eat with rice and onions alone the following day. Aside from the dish not being XXX hot, I have no complaints and would assuredly go back/order again.

They moved buildings and are now on the other side of 94 next to the liquor store. The portion sizes continue to be large. The medium spice was just right for what we were looking for (just enough spice for added flavor, if we were eating it as is dining in we would still go with hot). The rice was fluffy, the chicken had large chunks that were fork tender, and the flavor was spot on.

Overall, the food was solid, everything came out fresh, and portion sizes were fair. Some dishes leaned a little sweet or salty for my personal taste. We tried the Gobi Manchurian (3/5), Lamb Rogan Josh/Lamb Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, and garlic naan. The lamb curry stood out--the meat was tender, and the smaller pieces practically melted in our mouths (3/5). The garlic naan was probably the weakest link (2/5), but the chicken tikka masala was a pleasant surprise. It tasted like the chicken had been pre-marinated in a curry before being folded into the tikka masala sauce, which added an unexpected but welcomed depth of flavor (3/5). The meal also started with a complimentary side of their version of chips and salsa (not sure what it's officially called), but it was a pleasant way to kick things off. Just my two cents ~ support local business and see for yourself! Don't forget to leave a review to support local spots!

For the Indians craving traditional Indian flavors, in my opinion, this may not live up to expectations. We tried the samosas. The casing was exceptional. Crispy and held itself. The filling; hmmmm, didn't care for it much. The gobi manchuran we ordered as an appetizer too, not what we expected. It lacked the 'crispy' feel as it had a lot of the sauce. Traditionally, even when saucy, the gobi has an awesome crisp to the extent it's crunchy. Fun to eat. The other thing we didn't enjoy in the flavor profile of this was the ketchup. It felt like there was a good amount of ketchup that was used in the sauce. The tomato soup was EXCELLENT. It was a cool evening and the warm, rich, slightly sour soup hit the spot. I ordered the chole bhature. I think that was the most disappointing. The chole was not bad but the bhature; come on guys. You know what real bhature is. What was served was closer to something like a version of pita bread (little different) but not a bhature. If there was a 'sin' committed, I would say it was not serving a traditional bhature for a dish called chole bhature. We also ordered a dal makhani which was alright. The paneer makhani was really good. The paneer was super fresh and the flavor while not original (to me) was still really good. The service was fantastic. Our server was friendly, attentive, made sure our waters were always filled and checked in on us from time to time without being overwhelming while yet not disappearing. Would I come here again? Yes, to try the meats I will. I do feel the flavors may have been created to cater to the American taste buds so the authencity of the stuff we tried was just not there.

First the Butter Chicken spicy was an omg-this-is-sooo-good mumble at first bite because the spice level was perfect, the chicken thighs succulent and meaty, and that sauce was a savory flavor bomb. I've always been a curry or tikki masala kind of chicken eater but this Butter Chicken blows those away. A must try. Good grief I'm salivating writing about it. The Garlic Naan was a perfect sauce-sopper for the Butter Chicken. I wish they offered pots of fresh chutneys with the naan, but that's ok. That's really minor. Lemon Rice sounded fresh and refreshing but holy spice, Batman! It was unexpectedly deliciously hot and had a deep lemon flavor. Cooked with whole roasted spices, slices of peppers and curry leaves this was a top favorite. Some of the whole spice things (not sure what they were tbh) were hard but most added a crunchy texture. The soups I had, Sweet Corn Soup and Hot & Sour Soup were home runs. Both had plenty of veggies and packed a spicy kick. The H&S soup was not like you'll get at Chinese or other Asian restaurants, but it was hot and not sour. It's just different but still so delicious. We'd had the butter chicken just last week so we know what that tastes like- it's super good! And we've had the chicken tikka from Kadai before (see my previous review) and it has a distinct taste that I don't personally prefer.
