I was immediately surprised at just how much energy a solar array in Seattle could produce in winter. In 2021, after 3 summers in a row of wildfire smoke in Seattle, we made a decision to remove our chimneys and let go of the nostalgia of a wood fire. By removing two chimneys, we created space for 10 more panels, added an electric induction stove, a heat pump, and closed our account with the gas company. With net metering by Seattle City Light, various state and federal tax incentives, the entire installation has nearly paid for itself.
