I've seen a few yelp reviews say this place is a little ummmm pretentious or overhyped, well yes they don't do customizations and they really don't want you on your phones when you order but honestly, their drinks are just worth it I always order their Wiener Schokolade in the smallest size and that's only because I do like the strong taste of the coffee when its smaller and don't want to over indulge (it does get sweeter when you order the larger sizes, and remember what I said about no customization) We also had a croissant, it was fine as an accompaniment but nothing amazing. read more

Such a cute bright little cafe. I felt like I was in Europe. Sadly, I had had too much coffee before I arrived so I settled in for a Châtillon Chai and a pain au raisin. The presentation was beautifully done and both were very tasty. That said if I was allowed I would give 4 1/2 stars but I thought it was harsh to take a whole star off for this small complaint: they asked if I would like my pastry warmed up and I said yes and they put it on the table before my drink arrived and I waited for the drink and when I went to eat the pastry, it was not warm at all. I feel like it may have been better if they both arrived at the same time. All in all it was a good experience and I will be back. Hopefully next time I can try the coffee. Just be warned there is no alternative options for drinks here they come as they are. No choices for non-dairy options, flavors, etc.. read more

I definitely agree with a previous funny review that this is the most pretentious coffee house ever! But I mean that in a totally positive way. Service like what I would expect at a Ritz Carlton. Very friendly staff and they could see I was a bit confused as I looked at their menu as it was my first visit here. They took the time to explain about their business, and how it is unique. Recommended a drink, and gave me options as I can't have dairy. The drink was served on a silver platter along with a side of water, which is a nice touch. Drink was excellent. I'm not exactly sure what I ended up ordering but it was great. My son has baseball practice down the road and I have to wait for him each weekend. This will be my new go to spot. read more

What a fascinating business to find next to the park and ride -- a true Viennese coffeehouse! I'll be back. As soon as I entered, the barista greeted me with a proper "Gruess Gott" and the quick caveat that they don't make "standard" coffee drinks, only Viennese-style ones. I don't mind; I'll happily take a Wiener melange any day of the year. And I did. I was in a hurry, so I didn't get a proper chance to analyze the whole vitrine but the imperial torte looked nice enough (no Sachertorte on the day I visited!) I wished I'd been able to stay and hang out in this chill, low-key space fit for reading, but I had to head out for a hike. The imperial chocolate cake was a delight. Not really my thing, but I loved every bite of it. Moist, properly sweet, I'd eat it again. read more

I have to say, Kaffeehaus de Châtillon is probably one of the most pretentious coffeehouses on earth. Seriously, just read the website - it will surely give you a hearty laugh. Then again, it is one of UNESCO's "Intangible Cultural Heritages," so perhaps being UNESCO recognized means that pretentiousness is a requirement for Viennese coffeehouses? Anyways, we decided to visit to have an authentic Viennese experience and to try some of the drinks, which per website and reviews, are made with recipes that are hundreds of years old. Some of the reviews also state that the pastries are old time recipes as well, but as examined later in this review, I believe that assertion is inaccurate (note: The kaffeehaus itself does not make this statement). I was mostly intrigued by the pastries, with the drinks being secondary as I don't enjoy drinking coffee. I got the sense that the woman working the register gets very tired of having to make the same spiel to each new customer walking through the door. As other reviews also mention, they seem a bit worn down and disinterested in service. Then again, having to say the same thing over and over again dozens of times a day would wear on me too! Heisse Schokolade, 12oz ($3.25) - This is all you could want from a hot chocolate. It's served hot with a rich chocolate flavor, sweet, but not cloyingly so. It is very smooth. There's a packet of brown sugar provided for people who want an even sweeter drink and it's served with a small glass of still water to help refresh the palate. (5/5) Croissant aux Amandes ($5.40) - I was lured in by the reviews that state that Kaffeehaus de Châtillon makes their pastries in house from recipes that are hundred of years old. I believe those reviews are misinformed. At least for the croissants, I believe Kaffeehaus purchases them from Touba Bakery (the barista* (see note) did say that they get the pastries from a local bakery). That's not a bad thing at all - it's a great choice given the high quality products baked there. This croissant has a very thick glazed layer on the outside, making it quite sticky. There's a small baked frangipane topper and a bunch of slivered almonds cemented to the croissant by the sticky glaze. This croissant is very heavy for the size with high moisture content. This creates thicker chewy layers that kind of stick together on the inside. Biting into the croissant, the dough compresses but then almost bounces back into form. There's a bit of frangipane inside that's almost like a gelatinous jelly and looks kind of like butter spread on a croissant. There's not very much added, but it's quite sweet. This croissant is probably the heaviest croissant I've ever had (in terms of weight and water content). After I left, I saw one of the workers microwave the pastries, so could that explain the heaviness? Still, even after blasting the croissant, it's still very good, a testament to the quality bake. (4/5) Sachertorte ($7) - While some of the pastries are likely from Touba, I'm not sure where the torte comes from. At any rate, this was the first time I've eaten a sachertorte. It's essentially two very dense chocolate cake layers, with an tangy and sweet apricot jam gluing the layers together, then covered in a high quality chocolate ganache. The jam includes plenty of soft apricot chunks, making it more texturally interesting. It's not that effective of a glue, so the top layer kind of starts sliding off while eating. The torte is served with whipped cream - real non-stabilized whipped cream that's sweet but deflates fast. It's high quality, but must be enjoyed quickly before it entirely collapses. (4/5) *Note: the website specifically says there "is no such thing as a 'barista'... in a Viennese Kaffeehaus," however, they never specify the actual terminology and I was unable to determine the correct name. Kaffeehaus de Châtillon is definitely unique and is a place that should be experienced at least once. It was our first time there, been eyeing it for over a year. When we first walked in, it was nice and cozy. The staff greeted us and we looked through the menu. Staff didn't say anything to us except for asking what we would like to order, she didn't ask if we had any questions for the coffee or pastry. Once we ordered, we sat down waited a few minutes to get our order. Another guest came in and the staff greeted that person like he was the vip. She explained how they've using the same techniques for 200-300 years, making suggestions for him and making feel like it's home. I was just disgusted on the difference in treatment we received. Kaffeehaus de Chatillon is such a gem. I believe it is the only Traditional Viennese Kaffeehaus in the area, and they really do care about making your experience here a good one. Once you order your coffee, they will make it and bring it right to your table. Even wiped the table for me before I sat down. They also will bus the table for you when you're done. Very nice hospitality that is not found in any regular cafe or coffeeshop. I also had the cheese croissant and it was delicious! Food does tend to run out quickly on busy days, so I was lucky to get one of the last ones at 12pm. Also it's a plus that they have a drive thru window. Lots of parking, but it can be difficult sometimes because they are located by a residency, so you can just order coffee from your car if needed. read more

The coffeehouse is in a plaza with other businesses. There was plenty of free parking. I loved the interior of this place! I felt like royalty being here. There was a fireplace, old paintings, red curtains, red cups, and leather couches. As for the coffee, I ordered the Wiener Schokolade with whipped cream on top. It has Julius Meinl Grosser Mokka, Dark Schokolade & frothed milk/crème mit Schlagobers ~ "not a Caffè Mocha". I was unsure of ordering it at first because it contains a layer of dark chocolate, and I find dark chocolate to be too bitter for my palate. However, it was perfectly balanced - not too sweet or bitter. It was delicious! It came with a side of sparkling water and the wifi code on a card, both of which were nice complimentary additions. It was pretty busy when I visited on a Saturday morning, but I was able to find seating for one and enjoy my coffee there. This is my girlfriend and my favorite place love the food and ambiance but on the 2nd of this month. We went in and was met with the most disgusting behavior by the hand of the Barista and a new server i have never seen before, ever question we had was met with scoffs, snickers and condescension. Definitely not the customer service I had come to love. The smaller of the 2 servers as always was embodiment of the mission statement. Super fun coffee stop! We have been basic Starbucks people for a long time, but we were looking for a fun coffee house in the area when we stumbled across this and decided to check it out. Very nice inside, with comfy chairs and small tables to sit around. The coffee was delicious, but be aware, not the same as the standard coffees you are used to here in Seattle, Be prepared to try something different. Service was great, they serve you at your table and clear the table for you as well. They also have top quality European style croissants, and danishes, tortes and other bites. This place prides itself on being an authentic Viennese cafe, which I respect. The pastries are fantastic and based on hundreds of years old recipes. It's definitely worth a stop for the pastries if you're in the area. The problem with authenticity is that authentic Viennese coffee isn't very good. It's inferior to what you can get locally. So you get an authentic stale Julius Meinl coffee (Austrian version of Illy or Lavazza) with various proportions of milk, whipped cream, chocolate, etc. I will say it's pretty ridiculous to not have an English menu as a matter of principal, because this means one of three things: 1. The people working there literally have to explain every item on the menu 2. You have to Google every menu item to see what it is. 3. You happen to speak German or be familiar with German names for espresso drinks. Overall, not a bad experience, just do your homework in advance so you know what to order. read more

What ruins this place for me is not the pretension -- which could be amusing if done tongue-in-cheek (although it is actually very earnest pretension) -- but rather the condescension. "We Hate Seattle" would not be a bad name for this business. Why open a coffee shop in a city with an internationally famous coffee culture, and then openly and aggressively insult that culture? Why cater to a population of sophisticated, knowledgeable coffee drinkers, and then insult their taste in coffee? Why provide a German-only menu in a city where virtually no one reads or speaks German? Why on Earth prohibit hoodies -- probably the most typical clothing item in Seattle? A Viennese-style coffeehouse is never going to be more than a curiosity in a city with its own vibrant coffee culture. If performed with friendliness and a sense of irony, it could be a great idea and a fun experience, like English High Tea places that understand the cosplay aspect. But coming in with an attitude of "We are going to show Seattle what *good* coffee tastes like, and teach Seattleites how to dress and behave properly while drinking it!" is just silly. read more

I ate one and got another one to go and ate it with pistachio butter at home and it was delicious! Staff are nice and friendly and services is great. This is probably my favorite coffee house. I don't get out there very often since I live a county away from there, but I always like it when I do have a chance to go. I've intro'd this place to my husband and he took a friend of ours there a few times and they love it. The furnishings are elegant and they generally have period dramas on the tv there, which is a pretty good aspect of the general ambiance. There's a very cool menu of coffees and hot chocolates. And they're delicious. Their pastries are good and the sweet ones aren't cloying. The apple pastry was amazing. Only thing is they really do get picked over if you go later in the day. Absolutely awful service. Dreadful, hostile attitude. Will never ever return. I went in wanting a chai tea and started to ask about their chai tea. The woman began to tell me about the history and culture of their coffee. I interrupted, gently and appropriately I thought, to say I only had a question about their tea. She continued to tell me about the coffee. I interrupted again, at which time she yelled at me, YELLED, that I was rude for interrupting her and I needed to leave. She ran out from behind the counter and into a back room. Then the man behind the counter told me that "Madame" was correct because it was rude of me to not listen to her. While I could assume that the woman had a problem with her temper, I actually suspect that she's required to recite a script, and if she doesn't recite the full script then she will get in some kind of trouble. One of my favorite coffee houses to come to! The environment is so unique and peaceful. I came once about 3 years ago and hadn't been back since until this past weekend. It was even more amazing than I remembered. My sister got the Weiner Schokolade and I got the Überstürzer Neumann. Well rounded flavors for both drinks! This is not a normal coffee bar where you customize your drink, so be prepared to try something new. If you order something to drink there, they serve it on a silver platter. Let's just say...saying the coffee is strong is an understatement. Wowzaaa I was so caffeinated at work! So getting coffee here will for sure get the job done. First time ever having Vienna Coffee and I've definitely returning. Since it was my first time the baristas were so helpful, she literally walked me through basically the entire menu. As always my bf got something sweet and it LOVED his coffee it was sweetened with Madeline syrup and absolutely delicious. For me I got a darker richer coffee and it was also delicious just less sweet. The presentation was almost perfect. Beautiful plating. I really loved it all. I lived in Lynnwood for a little over a year and have to surmise that this kaffeehaus is probably one of the oddest, most enjoyable headscratchers in the entire suburbia of Lynnwood. It is a gem. It is weirdly there. In a hidden side of a random building. On Ash Way. Huh? Their coffee has that unique European flavor profile that if you've had it before you go "ohhh yeah, that" and if you haven't you may go "huh..." It's coffee with... something adjacent.
