My boyfriend and I were so excited to try this new cafe for our weekly breakfast date and we were totally obsessed with their bold unique flavours! I've never tried pandan before so I decided to get their pandan latte with oat milk and a pandoodle cookie. My boyfriend got an Ube cookie so we could try both flavours. The cookies were honestly a little too dense for me and I wished they had more flavour in them. The ube cookie was my favourite because it was the sweeter out of the two, I wish the pandoodle tasted more like pandan. My latte was so pretty, but the first sip tasted disgustingly sweet so after some stirring I tried it again and while I thought the the nutty flavour of the pandan was interesting, it ended up being a little too syrupy for my taste. The atmosphere in here is so cute though and we'll definitely have to come back to try more of their pastries! Love Hood Famous for their ube and other cheesecakes and finally made it to their storefront in the International District before the Seahawks victory parade. The line was out the door waiting for their arroz caldo special. It was worth the wait. Inside had lots of room and a cozy seating area. We were tempted by the other food and drinks. When you walk in to Hood Famous, there is an immediate sense of community - friends are gathered laughing, some are studying, others are savoring each bite of cheesecake. People seem glad to be there, and for good reason! The meticulously crafted drinks and treats, featuring classic southeast asian flavorings like pandan and ube, are just chefs kiss. As an absolute fiend for pandan, I loved the strong yet balanced pandan latte. The flavor shined through amazingly in the pandan cheesecake, too. The cafe is in Chinatown, conveniently located near the metro and other cute places to check out as a tourist. When I visited, I had just came from a flight but it wasn't too bad to get to. I always tell friends visiting Seattle that they should swing by Hood Famous, and while that still holds true, I as a local have stopped coming here. The price of food and drink is expensive for the small portions you get, and you can get the same quality pandan and ube drinks at a dozen other places that serve phin coffee for less. You can also just get the baked goods at Uwajimaya. What I really don't like about coming here are the judgmental stares from patrons and staff if you stay for more than 15-20 mins. Then my gut feeling was confirmed when I noticed the new sign - WiFi is not available on weekends. You're not allowed to even sit at the window booth on weekends because they need it as a waiting area. I get it, it can get crowded on weekends, but most people know to leave asap to make space. I have been there on weekends when it's only me and one other table, but 10 minutes in I already feel unwelcomed. Even if I come in on a quiet weekday and stare at the pillar, I feel like I overstayed my welcome. There really is no reason to be a frequent patron. read more

I'm giving this four stars for the freshness and quality of the cheesecakes that have made their way back to California. I've tried several of their signature cheesecakes that my sister brings home from Seattle, and each one has maintained its freshness and quality. The soft, creamy texture of the cream cheese makes them more enjoyable. I've visited Seattle many times, but timing has never worked out for an in-person visit. There's usually already a line forming, and we're often limited on time. My favorite is the Vietnamese Coffee Cheesecake. It's not overly sweet, the cream cheese isn't overpowering, and you can still taste a subtle hint of coffee. My second favorite is the Buko Pandan. I didn't enjoy the Guava as much, it was a bit too tart for my preference, as I tend to favor sweeter desserts. I also tried the Ube Cookie Dough, which was just okay for me. I couldn't really taste much of the ube flavor. I look forward to dining here in person someday, but for now, I'm grateful for the small treats my family brings back. read more

I came by on a weekday afternoon and the café had a steady amount of people coming in and out. It's a smaller, cute café and has tables and seating close together. I think it's a solid spot to work or study (wifi is available only on weekdays). For parking, I parked at the Uwajimaya parking lot and walked over. Super convenient if you're already in the area. This place is beautiful and has a good amount of seating. They have both a store/market type vibe and general cafe. Known for their ube items, I had to give those a try. I got their ube pandan soft serve swirl, and it was packed generously high. Between the two flavors, I think I liked the pandan more - maybe I am just not the biggest ube fan. What a beautiful space that represents Filipino culture well. I love their Sari Sari Store - they have a good selection of Filipino products and they carry items by small businesses and artists. I wanted to buy all their books! I came here after a heavy lunch so I just got a calamansi drink and a slice of buko pie to go. The buko pie was great! I did not like the calamansi drink as it had a bitter aftertaste; It is understandable though that they would not be the same as fresh calamansi from the Philippines. I'm giving them a 4 because I've had their other products before and have liked them. They are famous for their cheesecakes so make sure to try those. I'd love to try their other drinks next time. I'm also interested in getting their ube syrup and cookie dough. The service was great, they were very friendly. Came to Hood Famous on our last morning and it certainly added that last exclamation to our trip. I LOVED the interior! It reminded me of south east Asia down to the sign for kapé. I had the longaniza breakfast sandwich which had an excellent combination of sweet, savory, sour, and richness in every bite. The sandwich was also not too greasy and the perfect size for a hearty breakfast. Pair that with a special latte and mmm, yes, perfect American breakfast classic with that kiss of Asian flavor. Boyfriend had the rice porridge and commented that it was soul warming. While he wasn't the biggest fan of the vinegar, he did compliment the cook on the poached egg and the tenderness of the chicken. His jasmine tea latte was also super floral and an A+ in my book. I do not like this place anymore. I've been frequenting hood famous since I was in college. My friends as I would commute from UW all the time. This was before they extended their building and expanded. After the construction and shifts, I haven't been able to keep up with them. There's always something going on in there. From new faces, to no faces, kiosks, little to no baked goods, only commodified cookies and cheesecake. It's become inconsistent. The entire vibe has changed as well. It used to be cozy, warm and inviting. I genuinely can't find myself to relax in there. The seats, bars and stool are set up awkwardly and are compacted. I could tell they just wanted more foot traffic so they put a chair any space they could. You have to check out from a kiosk now which sucks, though that's been implemented awhile back along with a surcharge to makeup for the lack of tips. I miss the interactions with the staff. They were always lovely and kind. I enjoyed tipping them and hearing about their recommendations. One of them helped me with my pour over, he even provided me a time dial sheet. So sweet. You also check out from one side then go elsewhere to pick up your beverage. It's really too much. I'm happy for them and business is growing, I presume. Just isn't for me anymore. It's a walk up to the counter use a computer to order anyways...although they do have helpful, sweet, & attentive people behind the counter to bring your order casual eatery. Cute decor & chill vibe, like bring a laptop to work to do work or come with a friend or 2 for lunch or brunch like I did. We shared the arroz caldo with a poached egg because we were both going to order the same thing & I hate that.. especially when there are only 2 of you! We split the arroz caldo which was so flavorful with just the right amount of texture from the friend garlic topping. There's an option to add crispy chicken skin for an up charge but they were all out...otherwise we would have added that also! We also had a Silog(rice & protein plate) with skirt steak marinated in soy & pan fried, served with the tastiest garlic rice & topped with a sunny side up fried egg! There was also some arugula on the plate with a light vinegrette, diced tomatoes & onions for that vegetation I prefer with every meal. Arroz Caldo was so good I took an order home for my daughter & I also got the last beef Mechado hand pie, beef stew with carrots & potato in flaky puff pastry...it was good even without being heated!!! I'm sure it's superb heated in a small oven or air fryer! I can't wait to have another lunch brunch date...I'm heading back to Hood Famous, plus it's locally owned by POC!!! We visited Hood Famous as our first stop on the LNY Food Walk tour. This place was mega busy, completely full at 11AM, with all tables and chairs taken and basically standing room only in the dining area. A line developed in front of the counter, eventually going out the door into the rain. I guess it's pretty popular over the weekends even during non-Food Walk times, since the window counter seating was removed and there were signs saying it was reserved as space to form a queue. We saw a display case filled with delectable baked goods and we had to try one of them in addition to the $6 Arroz Caldo special. Chicken Arroz Caldo ($6) - This is a tiny ~6 oz portion of their Chicken Arroz Caldo that's normally $15 for the full size. It's basically chicken congee - comforting and plain in flavor, perfect for people recovering from sickness or wanting something light and mild in flavor. It's gingery from julienned ginger, a bit garlicky, with a good savory element that almost tastes a little shrimpy in nature, in addition to a couple of pieces of tender chicken that dot the bowl. It's comforting to eat, but I just don't understand why they skimp on the size. Congee is a dish that's exceptionally cheap to make (in fact, some people consider it poverty food since in the past it was cooked as a way to stretch out the rice rations). Other places on the Food Walk serving soup and/or congee used the standard 12oz soup container. Longanisa Cheddar Scone ($7.50) - This scone smells heavily of cheddar, with some leaking out during during the baking process and caramelizing on the bottom. The crumb is moist and yet floury at the same time - transitioning from a more moist half inch on the outside to a more floury interior. It has a pretty good crust on the outside, giving good textural contrast. They add quite a bit of scallion and cheese inside, but I only found one piece of longanisa. There's flaky sea salt on top to give a salty burst in some bites. It's very expensive, coming in at around 40-50% higher than other bakeries in the city. Given the somewhat inconsistent crumb, I'm not sure it's worth the price premium. Then again, this is probably one of the only places to get a Filipino fusion scone, so there's that. (3/5) If Hood Famous was trying to use the Food Walk as advertising, I don't think it worked on me. Small portions, big prices, with quality of food that doesn't seem to match the prices. Meh. Note: There is a sign stating that they increased the food prices by 25% and have a no tipping policy. But... this isn't a full service establishment in the first place... I'm not sure how a counter service establishment expects to receive 25% tips, but I guess it's good for them that they're so popular even with the pricing! read more

Pandan Latte: the cashier mentioned that their drinks aren't too sweet, so I only asked for less ice and kept everything else default. It was great--balanced, flavorful, not overly sweet, and has that subtle pandan taste. I'd definitely order this again. Corn Muffin: very sweet, but I didn't mind. The flavor got a bit tiring after a while, so I ate half at the cafe and saved the rest for later. It had a generous amount of corn pieces. Ube Cheesecake: my least favorite item. I had this coffee shop bookmarked for my trip to Seattle and I'm so glad I did because it may have been the best coffee I had during my entire trip. My husband and I ordered the ube latte, the pour over, and the ube cheesecake to share and everything here was fantastic. I'm a huge fan of ube but I feel like a lot of ube lattes don't have a strong enough ube flavor, but this place does!! The drink itself is delicious and doesn't taste overly sweet. The ube cheesecake had a really strong ube flavor as well which I really enjoyed. The pour over was also excellent and we were really able to taste the different notes in the coffee. The service here was friendly and the ambiance is really nice as well. There is plenty of seating and I think this would be a great place to study or catch up with a friend. It is located in Chinatown so parking can be a bit tricky, but we were able to find metered parking about a block away and walk over. After I landed and settled into my hotel, I headed straight over to this place. It's been bookmarked for a while and I am so glad that I was able to visit. I had to take a Lyft since this spot was located in what I assume to be China Town, which was farther from the downtown area that I did not want to walk. The space is super cute. There is a sari sari store that sold books, spices, chocolate, and just cutesy Filipino things. I picked up 4 Filipino books for the kid bc it's not often that I get the opportunity to purchase Filipino books. How lucky is this generation of Fil-Am kids!? Hood Famous is a Filipino-American bakery with phenomenal pastries, drinks, and breakfasts. I've had very fond memories of Hood Famous as we would have their cheesecakes brought to family dinners, and it was always a fun time trying out the flavors. However, I never had the pleasure of checking out the actual location until now. Conventiently located next to the Chinatown Link Station, it was easy to find and access. During this visit, we got the Champorado Cream Puff, chocolate rice pudding folded with whipped cream and garnished with salted fish. We also tried the Beef Mechado Pocket, basically a savory Filipino beef stew in a pastry pocket. Both SO GOOD. Please do yourself a favor and try these if you are on the fence. I will definitely be back on my next visit to try different things. Despite the cold and drizzly weather, Hood Famous is warm and comforting. Wow what a find. You'd never know this place is a bakery and cafe from its name, but it is indeed both. Located right off of the Chinatown/international district stop of the Link, it was quite busy when I stopped by on a Sunday morning but no line to order thankfully. We tried the chocolate cream puff and beef pocket. The cream puff had an exterior reminiscent of the Mexican bread and a light chocolate mousse on the inside. Had to try Hood Famous (went to Musang for dinner last night) when I was in Chinatown today. Ordering from the kiosk was a little overwhelming as there were so many choices but the server behind the counter was very friendly and helpful making suggestions. I ended up with the: - ube latte - 5/5, although now I've realized I don't really prefer ube lattes so next time I'm going to try something else (not knocking their preparation, it's just that the coffee taste can overpower the ube) - ube cheesecake - 5/5, i just had to try this since I had read so much about it in the Yelp reviews. We came in looking for an ube cookie single and ube cheesecake. We had seen Hood Famous products before at Uwajimaya but thought we'd purchase at the business itself since they're next to each other. Big mistake. This is a counter service spot. You order yourself on a Toast kiosk, you pick up your own order, and you generally clean up after yourself. When you order, there's a dine in and takeout option. The cheesecake was $9.00. At Uwajimaya one block down the street it's $5.75, I checked right after we purchased. They're the same item. On the bottom of the receipt there's a note that the prices include a 22% service charge. 22% for counter service is a bit debatable even if you did dine in but we did not - we clicked on the takeout option. It's crazy to charge over 50% more to pick up a bakery item than at the grocery store which involves a middle man taking a cut. On weekends, they offer ube and pandan soft serve. This is $7.50 and much more reasonable even if it includes 22% service charge for take out. It's a large size and has pronounced flavours. read more
