Fast forward 3 months and my husband and I came in to Wunderground for breakfast. I have one thing to say via my husbands mouth regarding the breakfast sandwich.... 10/10. Puck was absolutely AMAZING! He was so patient and friendly, Wunderground far exceeds anything you would get at the Starbucks place. The decor is also cool to look at. Fabulous coffee spot! The vibes i side are great with a patio in the back and very cute decor. I love working from here for a couple hours, theres lots of tables and outlets. Wunderground is a very pretty coffee shop that specializes in mushrooms added to coffee. The at and layout of the shop is very aesthetically pleasing, and it's super light and airy. I noticed a lot of people were in to work/be on laptops, so that gives you some idea of the atmosphere and noise range. I gave it a middling rating because I'm very skeptical of the "powers" of powdered mushroom. I didn't realize they had such good looking breakfast options! When I came here, the espresso machine was sadly out of order, but they had it back up and running quickly. The baristas were super friendly and kind, and I just got some work done in their space until the machine was back in order. The ambiance is great for working from for a few hours: there is ample table space and strong wifi. I had a latte, which was served in a mug since I was eating in. I wasn't blown away by it, but it was solid and served quickly. I also ordered an egg sandwich, which they happily put on sourdough rather than brioche for me. The egg patty was absolutely delicious! I was Lowkey wired off of this coffee but it was delicious. I also don't drink coffee, and this was a great flavor. I got the cinnamon maple latte with mushroom extract. My drink came up to $9 which was a bit pricey in my opinion, but I thought it was tasty and was perfect in sweetness. The employees were really nice, I think we accidentally swapped a $1 and $20 but I didn't want the bad karma so I popped right back over to hand it back haha. They're really nice in helping you decide what is good or not. If I didn't get the cinnamon, I would've tried the lavendar. The coffee shop is very popular so it can be hard to find a seat, but it's worth a try once! Monday morning, 830, very quiet - we were only customers in the brightly lit, bright-decor joint. Clean, quick service, I like my 12 oz. Strange Magic Mocha ($7.75) - sweet but not cloyingly so, like a Starbucks speciality drink, a slight earthiness to the coffee; wife's Brain Wash Latte was smooth and not too bitter and nice presentation. I saw that Wunderground opened back on Halloween, but I had a spontaneous visit on 12/2/21 after a brief text thread with founder/CEO Jody Hall on LinkedIn. I admire her as a visionary with her professional acumen from Starbucks, Cupcake Royale, Goodship, and now Wunderground. Pro tip: Found 2 hour street parking down towards Cal Anderson Park, but exercise caution as a pedestrian when crossing at 11th and E Pike - nearly got run over in mid-sidewalk! Once I entered the cafe for the first time, incredible wow factor regarding the interior! Various seating configurations, merch wall (perfect for the holiday season), bright and amazing wall art, lots of natural light, pastry case and other menu items available, plus welcoming counter staff and baristas. I was able to try a Strange Magic, dark chocolate syrup infused with adaptogenic mushrooms, steamed milk (choice of regular or oat) with beautiful latte art crafted by an upbeat barista. I was able to hang out for a bit to experience the cafe vibe and even received a sample of their focaccia. This mocha and focaccia sample hit the spot! It was one of those middays where I felt a bit out of sorts and needed to get out and be among humanity. This was the perfect solution. read more

Um WOW, where has this place been all my life?! I'm a sucker for healthy cafes with drinks and food that are delicious too! Love what they did to the place and it's sooo cute inside. The employees are always very friendly and helpful. I want to try the whole menu, but the brain boost quinoa bowl is so good that I keep getting it every time. All the food and baked goods are made in-house and are very light and healthy. I love that there are lots of vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free options too. I first discovered them at their pop-up and was excited to hear about coffee with organic adaptogenic mushrooms because I've never had anything like it. This coffee shop is awesome!! We worked here for a day while visiting the city. Their vegan hot chocolate was one of the best I've ever had! My gf also very much enjoyed her mushroom coffee, and she can be boujee about coffee. Lol The service was great! They were super friendly. Yelp had an offer for a free coffee, and the girl at the counter let me get a second hot chocolate (which costs more) as my freebie. I was very happy! Lol They played a fantastic music selection (r&b and some older hip hop). It was just a teeny bit too loud to be conducive to work calls. I've been meaning to try Wunderground for the longest time because of their specialty mushroom coffee and nice interior. I got the Brain Wash latte with oat milk. While the mushroom flavor was subtle to the point of being almost undetectable, the latte itself was solid, though a bit on the pricey side. The barista mentioned that the mushrooms are mixed with cocoa powder and vanilla, so there is an extremely faint taste of cocoa. Whether it was the mushrooms or just a placebo effect, I did feel more focused while working on my laptop in the coffee shop. The apple turnover was a highlight--warm, flaky, and delicious, definitely a treat worth coming back for. The service was exceptional, with a friendly barista who even brought my pastry to the table, enhancing the already great vibe of the place. Though the Brain Wash might not be my go-to every time, the overall experience and ambiance make Wunderground a spot I'd return to. read more

Drinks are pretty good. I couldn't really taste the difference of the mushroom but I don't think you're supposed to. My companion and I were both satisfied with our drinks. Service was very efficient and kind. They answered all my questions about the mushroom coffee, that I'm sure they get hundreds of, with great patience. Ambiance is cool. It's a nice space to work but they close on the earlier side. The motif of mushrooms is carried out throughout the decor and to the back patio area. On the walk here I was already scared Cap Hill's latest cafe was going to be a rip-off.. but after seeing Wunderground's mushroom lattes pop up everywhere, even in my office cafes, I knew I had to give it a try. First, the positives--the space is massive and beautiful, with lots of seating in the front that opens into outdoor seating in Chophouse Row. There are lots of fun mushroom decorations on the walls and even a mushroom outlet plug I noticed! I also appreciate how this cafe offers pretty substantial food options-- --except substantial would be an inaccurate term to use. I shied away from the toasts since I saw reviews that they would be overpriced, but I got a couple of "appetizers" that I thought could whet my appetite. I got the cauliflower, egg, and shiitake mushroom bacon -- for ~$3 each, I got a paltry quantity of each. Unfortunately, the quality didn't make up for the quantity, as the roasted cauliflower was pretty soggy. I will say the mushroom bacon was pretty unique. The final disappointment was the mushroom vanilla latte. It straight up tasted bad, and I struggled to finish my drink. What more, after drinking it, instead of feeling any positive health benefits I got a headache and felt quite odd. Definitely a trendy spot, but I would come here for vibes and vibes only. read more

Really disappointing customer service encounter with brunette barista with septum piercing while visiting Wunderground on 4/6. Overshadowed the entire experience. Will not be back. Was very excited to try this rad mushroom coffee from Jody Hall (i'm a big fan of her other business Cupcake Royale). I planned our trip to Wunderground to a TEE, just to be met with a rude and honestly mean barista. After we said our drink order, she immediately turned away from us (to the cold brew tap ?) and didn't say anything so we tapped our card and I waited there to see if I would get a receipt or if she was ready with the drinks she was pouring. When she turned back around and noticed I was still standing at the counter she rolled her eyes and said "go over there" with a scowl motioning to the coffee bar. Okay...so I went to the coffee bar where she pointed to. A minute or two later she came up to us and said "I need to change the tap. I'll call it out when it's ready" with another scowl and motioned for us to move away from the coffee bar too like we were also bothering her to stand there ? Anyway, everyone else who had ordered seemed like they were having fun and enjoying the cafe while we were feeling confused and offended by this person's attitude towards us. When other people's orders were ready, their names were called out-- NOT ours, just "two iced brain lattes." My partner and I were dumbfounded as to why she was dismissive and rude towards us while everyone else seemed happy and felt welcomed by the staff. We were the only people of color in line at this time BTW. Will not return to this cafe, we hardly finished the drink because the whole encounter left a bad taste in my mouth. I think it was tasty? Place seemed cute and well decorated? Didn't get a chance to take the coffee or cafe in, just felt awful spending money and tipping 15% just for the barista to be mean to us and make us feel unwelcome. TLDR: one of the baristas is MEAN and made us feel unwelcome while the white customers before/after us were treated kindly. Worst customer service experience i've had in years. Good food, great atmosphere, decent coffee. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and ordered a hot and an iced Brain Wash, a filtered coffee, as well as a Spicy Portobello Sandwich. The espresso drinks were very tasty. I am very picky about the vanilla in my iced drinks and this was lovely! Very vanilla-forward but not overpowering. The filtered coffee was...not my thing. My partner liked it, but I took one sip and said "no thanks". The sandwich, however, was SO good! While I certainly not call it spicy (I would give it zero out of five stars for spice level), the ingredients were fresh, the pickles tart, and the focaccia soft. I am absolutely ordering that again if I return. Also the wifi was SUPER slow. There were probably 10+ people with laptops when we were there and it was obvious Wunderground's network was not fast enough to handle that kind of use. It wasn't unusable, but it's something to note especially since a lot of people obviously use this cafe as a study space. The good thing is that the decor is so pretty and whimsical that the time it takes for your page to load gives you a chance to appreciate it. read more

I really like the cute and colorful aesthetic of this shop. It is VERY cute in here! I do like the unique aspect of mushrooms in the drinks and learning about the mushroom purposes. I had ordered a matcha latte which had a mushroom symbol next to it on the menu. I did enjoy the taste of the latte, which had the "umami" flavor and wasn't too earthy or too sweet. I thought this was just "ok" though because not too far from finishing, the drink was "chunky" with matcha on the bottom and sadly I did not have a chasen with me to mix it up. Maybe request for this to be mixed well. Perhaps this would not be my experience if I had the drink there and maybe not the case for all other matcha lattes made. The person working the front counter suggestion the focaccia and the cinnamon pastry. Both were also delicious as well.
