Made a little pitstop here while I was waiting for my food order and was pleasantly surprised at the variety of pet items they sell. There isn't much here (from what I was looking for my dogs) that you can't buy at other stores, but they have solid prices and some unique items that aren't super common at a big store line Petco or Persmart. I bought a couple of toys and treats for my dogs because I can never resist spoiling them, but I think I would come back to look into the raw foods they sell here. Whilst shopping at the Rancho Bernardo Plaza I stopped here to put together a little gift bag for my friend's young German Shepherd birthday. After my boyfriend's mom passed away unexpectedly in December, we took in her dog, Dill. Since then, we have been at this locations multiple times buying dog food or dog treats. Today I got my dogs teeth cleaned at one of their vaccine/grooming days. For teeth cleaning you need to make an appointment ahead of time but I believe for vaccines you can just pop on by. This is my second time getting my dogs teeth cleaned here, the first time was at the Poway location. I am super impressed with how clean they can get my dogs teeth and how pleasant the whole experience is. I have had no issues with my dog here. It is a little pricey but getting it done once a year is worth not having dental problems in the future. They use a ultrasonic device to clean the teeth and do not have to put your dog under anesthesia which I like. I highly recommend their teeth cleaning services. read more

Had a wonderful experience in here yesterday! I went in trying to find a collar for my gigantic cat. I knew I regular cat collar wasn't going to fit him and that a dog collar wasn't the safest since it was not quick release. After looking at some options and trying to figure out what to do, the staff was quick on their feet to offer a solution! One gal suggested I get a dog collar that will fit my cat's neck and then shave down the prongs on the clasp a bit so that it doesn't latch as strongly, thus becoming a quick release collar. I went home and had my husband shave it down and voila!! It worked beautifully!! I just wanted to make sure that the girls who helped me out were aware that they are seriously life savers and absolutely brilliant! Along with their suggestions and awesome customer service, the store was immaculate. I wish I could remember the girls' names that helped me (again, I was in there Friday around noon time...I hope they hear this review!) I found a certain type of dog food for my dogs. Not able to find it anywhere else. One of my favorite stops.

I am replying to the response by the manager of this store. First off you need education yourself on pet foods. Kibble is the worst food to feed your animals. Would you eat McDonald's every day. Find out how kibble is made. Dogs cannot assimilate synthetic vitamins. That is why gently cooked or raw is the best to feed your dogs. Many many people INCLUDING Dr. Judy Morgan and Dr Karen Becker who are the top Veterinarians in this Country buy meat from the store and make their own pet foods. Of course a nutritionally complete recipe needs to be followed. All dogs can benefit from greens. Doesnt matter what food you're feeding. This is why I shop at Dirty Dogs and generally not kahoots. They offer more nutritionally beneficial products and are educated on what is the best to feed your pet. I know you want to push your brand of foods but it's extremely low quality. Kibble is heated at such a high heat to make it destroys all the vitamins then synthetic vitamins are added back in. Do me a favor and watch the movie Pet Fooled since you work in the pet food industry. It is a documentary made by the famous Dr. Karen Becker. read more

This is my FAVORITE Kahoots so far. About 6-7 months ago I was looking for a hamster. I went to the Kahoots: Rancho Penasquitos, Poway and Escondido. The reason why this location ended up being my favorite was because they have the hamsters out in the open where you can interact with the hamster your interested without being hoovered over. Picking a hamster and testing it's temperament is a bit difficult to do on a whim and I like that I was able to take my time holding and watching them before making a final decision. I really hope that they keep the hamsters in the same spot because I am interested in getting more hamsters from them in the future. The staff there seemed acquainted with the hamster and they claim to handle all hamsters daily. They even had stories on the hamster I ended up buying from them. They didn't try to sell me anything else I didn't want or need so that was good. I actually came back the day after for a hamster I had seen the day before. Once I got there to buy her, a younger female staff member said that she was very happy that I came back for her and was happy that I was buying the hamster. So far the hamster I choose hasn't bitten me to this date and is a pretty good hamster. She does have her odd moments but I'm happy for the laughs she brings me. I believe the hamsters are hand picked by the owner from a private breeder. They don't hold hamsters but you can always phone in to see what they have. However, I highly recommend one chooses a hamster based on behavior and personality rather than colors. I have yet to go back to talk to the staff and thank them for my hamster since the location is miles out of my way. However, if you guys are reading this, I would like to thank you for my little Kit Kat. I love her and she has a forever home with me. Oh yes, and she is extremely spoiled. I hope to come by soon to thank you guys in person. I look forward to buying more hamsters from you in the future! Don't change a thing! You guys are doing great! :) read more

My husband and I have been doing Dog Training for 9 weeks at Kahoots Rancho Bernardo with our two puppies Sadie and Walker. I have to say it has been an amazing experience. Our trainer, Cayla Vaught is exceptional. She is kind, forthcoming, confident and excellent with her commands to both my husband and I and to our puppies. If you want a good dog trainer Cayla is the one for you. All the employees I have met, Erica, Cayla, Hunter, Jenna and Courtney, at the Rancho Bernardo Kahoots are so knowledgable with their supplies and products. They are also so helpful and are happy to give you advice if you have questions about your pets. They go far and above what I have experienced at other Pet Stores. Who knew the experience in different locations could vary so much... I'm not a fan of this RB Kahoots due to the fact that I feel very much ignored by the staff. My dog and I walked past an associate who was filling water into fish bowls and she barely looked up, when you walk in they yell hello but no one approaches you or asks about your animal or what you're looking for... there just isn't the same family based customer service I've experienced at other locations where the associates are delighted to have you in & make it an effort to know your pet and greet them. I started going to Kahoots because it's close to my house and I need a place that sells premium dog food. It's now my favorite place to shop for my pets' needs because it's well stocked, has reasonable prices, is very clean, and has friendly and helpful employees. They sell Betta fish, but no other aquatic or furry animals. They do carry fish and small animal supplies, though, and you can get bird seed as well. I want to support a store that has great products and treats their employees like people. People can be emotional about matters concerning their pets, but as a long-time pet owner I am loyal to this store because they have good options for my pets. The people who work here are awesome! I am proud foster mommy to the cutest little boxer girl in the world and she was having allergic reactions to her food. I had found out that most "bully breed" dogs tend to not digest corn, wheat and soy very well. So then I spent a good 20 minutes looking at the ingredients for every single bag of dog food in my local grocery store...they all had at least 2 of these ingredients!!! Kahoots dog food is about $2 more than the dog food I used to get Ali and none of those ingredients she is allergic to are in their food. Worth the price for sure! The staff gave me a large bag full of the food for free (it seems too big to call it a "sample") just to see how Ali like it. She LOVES their dog food! She also loves coming into the store! We had to get her a sweater at winter time (because boxers have the thinnest hair ever and she was freezing all the time) and the staff loved on her, gave her treats and helped me find the perfect sweater for her size. Because of the great Yelp reviews, the day before I adopted a dog I went to Kahoots to check it out. I was immediately warmly greeted by the staff. When I told someone I'd be coming in for a harness the next day, she was so nice and told me they'd help fit my dog. The next day I went back and they were true to their word. She fit my dog and led me to all the supplies I needed for my dog, Suzi. I had to return again today and again everyone was so warm and helpful. Being there 3 days in a row proves their excellent customer service isn't a fluke. I highly recommend this place for your pet needs! When I started looking around, everything I looked at was less expensive even at normal everyday prices. Wonderful customer service. I have been coming here for years and it doesn't matter who is working, every single part of their staff is so friendly, accommodating, and nice! Couple years ago one of my cats who was like a baby to me passed away suddenly after giving birth to six kittens. I was grieving, overwhelmed and stressed out when I went in there to buy kitten formula. The cashier could see I had been crying and when I rang up my order she let me have a bottle and formula for free (I'm assuming she covered the costs on her own dime). That gesture of kindness went a long way because I ended up losing one of the kittens I had been bottle feeding for about a week right after I returned home and it was an even harder day because I was planning on keeping this little guy as my own once he got bigger. I took my puppy in yesterday and they all greeted him and talked with me about him/recommending things for him, etc. it's nice to go somewhere that really treats their customers like part of a family ...would highly recommend this place! read more

As a new dog owner, I stopped by to get some advice on dog food. I was greeted by a staff member who spent 20 minutes with me explaining all of the dog food brands, and which was best for my puppy. I wish I would have learned the staff member's name, as she was very knowledgeable and exuberant in her job. She helped me pick out a mixture of raw and dry food for the puppy that was best for him. At other pet stores, I did not have the same experience as they would simply point in the direction of the dog food and say, "everything in this isle is good." One of my bassets are picky about the dry food that she eats. She wasn't a big fan of Avoderm or Wellness dry food but she seems to like the Wilderness Blend dry food made by Merrick. So I had to look for a place that sold it and have only found it here. A lot of places sell Merrick's canned food but not the dry ones since I think Merrick just started selling dry food. It's a nice size store (not as big as PetCo/PetSmart) and the staff have been friendly a few times I've been there. Selection is good for the various dog and cat foods (not the typical grocery store brands). The only drawback is that they don't carry Avoderm which my cats love to grow fat on. read more
