    Leftover treats and dinner that was "missing"

    Pet hotel. Extremely disappointing and stressful experience. My dog did not receive the care promised. I am writing this review because my recent experience at this PetSmart Hotel was honestly awful from start to finish and I want other pet owners to know what to expect. I had no idea that dogs are not taken outside to go to the bathroom unless they have, "not gone in a very long time". My dog is completely house trained and has never gone to the bathroom indoors so this information added worry and confusion to the situation. My dog did not want to go inside the room so I stepped through the first set of doors with him. The moment I entered that area the smell of urine was extremely strong. It made me even more anxious about leaving him there and I actually cried in the car afterward because the entire situation was so stressful (see why keep reading). I paid for several add ons including a Kong extra playtime and the Bedtime Bliss photo. When I called later that week to check on my dog they confirmed my phone number and told me that I would receive the photo later that day because they were very busy. I waited all day and never received any photo. When I picked him up I was told that they do not recommend add ons during the holiday season because "they cannot actually complete them", even though I was charged for them ahead of time. They did refund the cost of SOME of the add ons (which was extra one on one time with my pup and the photo, not the stay) but it would have been important to know that none of the extra care I paid for was actually going to be provided ahead of time. I just felt lied to. The night before I picked him up they called me and said they had run out of the pre-packaged meals I provided even though each bag was clearly labeled with his name and what he looks like, and the day (see photo). This should not have happened unless they over fed him or gave his food to another dog which is extremely negligent. They told me I needed to pay for additional food or choose to have him go unfed. I paid the extra fee. The next morning they suddenly found the bag and removed the charge. When I looked in his bin I noticed that there were actually several unused baggies still there. Finally I was told that my dog had not been going number two yet his blanket had poop on it when I picked him up (see photo). When I asked about it I was told that the rooms are very clean but that did not match what I saw. The blanket I brought also came back covered in white fur even though my dog has black fur and I paid for an individual room. This made me question whether the rooms are truly individual and whether they are properly cleaned as it feels like I couldn't trust anythig that was being told to me so far. Throughout all of this the customer service representatives were always polite. However I honestly could not tell whether the information they were giving me was entirely accurate. I do feel bad because I understand that they probably have a very high number of dogs during the holiday season and maybe the level of care is better when they are not so busy but management should limit the number of dogs staying if they can't provide care properly. So I would absolutely never bring my dog here again and I especially want to warn other pet owners not to drop their dogs off here during holiday periods. Overall I feel that I was not given accurate information at any point and I am heartbroken thinking about the stress my dog went through. This experience was incredibly upsetting and I cannot recommend this location.

    Teddy got groomed by Victor, this is our 2nd time with victor and he did great and very detailed. The couple times I took my dog to different locations and it's a hit or miss but victor is consistent!

    She is so happy now!

Hendrix my first pup loves going to Coastal Paws, he jumps out of my car and runs straight to door everytime even after all these years. Then when I got my second pup he does the exact same thing. Their pure enjoyment and excitement for doggy day care brings me so much joy. They are will taken care of and I receive feedback on their behavior and the owner does behavior training with them. She also sends daycare update photos with them playing, celebrates their birthdays and take holiday photos. I highly recommend Coastal Paws to all my friends and family. Thank you for making my pups feel safe and giving them a second home when I'm away.

We wanted to find a new daycare for them and came across this lovely place on yelp. I emailed them to set up a visit and they were very nice and accommodating. Everyone is sweet, you can tell they love our animals and they are professional. We stopped in on a Saturday morning and were able to check out the play area from the window in the lobby (also watched the video on their website) and they let us into the suites area since there were no dogs in there. When Ruth stays for the day, she stays in their suite and probably loves the break from Walter. Walter goes into the playgroup with the other pups. They asked for all the vaccinations and will ask for updated vaccines as well, which we love and feel very comfortable with. We know we stay up to date with everything and we want to be sure our pups are around other pups that have everything updated as well. We love the report cards. Especially since Walter is so young, we like to see how he is doing with the other dogs. I added some of the pics from their recent visit. Just look how happy he is and Ruth loves the big suite and comfy bed. We are very happy with this wonderful daycare.

The standard "suites" are kennels with plastic doors and are not soundproof, so dogs constantly hear other dogs barking or panicking unless you pay extra for an upgraded "suite" (similar to setups at the San Diego Humane Society). Webcams are only available in the play areas unless you pay for that upgrade, so there is no way to monitor your dog while they're in regular boarding. Playgroups are divided into "large" and "smaller" dogs, with "smaller" defined as up to 45 lbs -- something that is not clearly communicated or written on the website. I saw a golden retriever in the small dog group a one point, which raises serious concerns about how size and safety are handled. The facility is understaffed. At times, I saw one employee responsible for both kennel areas. There were piles of urine and feces left in play areas, dogs running through them, and periods where dogs were not actively supervised. The large and small dog areas face each other with only the fence to divide them, which creates unnecessary reactivity. Most concerning, my dog came home with dried urine and feces stuck to his belly and paws. When I brought it up, I was told "that happens sometimes." It took me an hour to fully bathe and brush him out due to matting from laying in urine. The kind staff unfortunately does not make up for the lack of cleanliness, supervision, and transparency issues. For a business of this size and reported revenue, these conditions for the dogs and employees are unacceptable. Update: After I posted this review, the manager, Jasmine, contacted me and claimed my dog's condition was due to "aggressive behavior." However, he was only there for two days, and no aggression was ever communicated to me or documented in his report cards. When I questioned the lack of documentation, Jasmine simply said, "Sorry about that." If his behavior had truly impacted his care, I would have expected immediate notification and written documentation -- not an explanation offered only after I raised concerns about him running into doors, stumbling, and having urine and poop all over him.
