I took the heated class on New Year's Day through a ClassPass trial and I'm not encouraged to go back. I have inversions in my practice but did not think it was safe given the soave confines. Horrible studio, if you enjoy being packed like a can of sardines in a hot yoga studio then this is the place for you. Today I got hit in the head by the lady next to me becuase they require your mats to be so close together so they can fit as many people in the classes and make the most money. They dont care about the experience. You have maybe an inch between each mat, no room to move or actually enjoy your practice. What a shame. read more

UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES TO CREDIT CARD ALERT!! Check that credit card statement...happened twice this year: recurring monthly charges without authorization and w/out services offered!! Second time. Bad, bad, bad... Update: they refunded the 3 unauthorized charges promptly after we called and the owner wrote a straight-forward response to the complaint that I filed on BBB, which I appreciated and withdrew. A really clean, well-kept studio with great instructors. This studio has a spa feel to it, and the rooms are fairly large. I have only been going here for a few weeks, but I really like it. The floors are soft (not hard wood, but some other material) and the rooms are immaculate. The only strange thing about the studio is that there are no mirrors, so it can be difficult at times to check on your positions. There are tons of classes offered throughout the day, so there are many options for those of us with crazy schedules. Again, there is no yucky smell from all the sweating, which I have seen (or smelled, rather) in quite a few studios. They offer both hot and unheated classes, and each is indicated whether it is suitable for beginners, or intermediate/advanced. Although they do not have a heated Bikram class (the 26 poses), the Vinyasa classes have all been great. read more

With regard to yoga offerings, kaia is expensive (though admittedly still in line with what seems to be customary in Fairfield county) with a huge range of classes that I find challenging and helping me improve my practice. I have been very disappointed in my last couple of interactions with the cafe that's located inside kaia. Recently, I'd ordered for delivery a salad that called for dried blueberries, cranberries, walnuts. It arrived, and instead of the fruit listed, came with slices of kiwi. What? I'd rather be told that I couldn't have what I wanted vs. getting something random. The wrap I'd ordered also was listed on the menu as having sprouts - no sprouts to be had on my wrap. Come on, guys. If you're going to do it and charge a premium, I expect the product to be stellar, and am disappointed that you aren't meeting that standard. read more

Had a very poor experience here. The facility is great, very clean and inviting yet I can't get past the class experience I had with instructor Cheryl. She was downright rude to me. I made the mistake as more of an advanced beginner taking an intermediate level hot yoga class. It was clear the ability of many of my classmates was above mine however I didn't realize I was going to be forced to try to keep up. At one point Cheryl literally asked me "Do you not speak English?" I have never been treated so poorly in a group fitness setting and left the studio feeling down on myself and regretting not saying something or asking to speak with a supervisor after class. I have been to the Darien location and had OK experiences there, however this experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and I probably will never be a regular customer. read more

This review is for the Kaia cafe. The service is terrible. I decided that even though I frequent the studio I will no longer go to the cafe. The blond at the cafe is always so curt, unfriendly, and never smiles. She should not be in the service industry. I order something and they always forget an extra I have added and paid for. I don't know till I've left, and taken a bite. They have forgotten an add on seven or eight times over the last months. The food is good, but I am tired of the disinterested blond who always seems to be at the counter. The service is also disorganized. they ask three times if its to go, then give to to me to stay. They don't remember who ordered what. For healthy food in the area I prefer to give my business to kind people who are appreciative. Catch a healthy habit in Fairfield is friendly and tasty. Kaia Yoga was the first place I happened upon in my search for a yoga studio. I have found the teachers and classes terrific for someone like me who is new to yoga. There are a lot of level-appropriate classes to choose from, taught by a variety of teachers--all encouraging, each with his or her own style. I thought I would go 3 times/week, but I am there more like 5 or 6. And just as important to me, Kaia has none of the Fairfield county arrogance you find elsewhere. read more

Above all else, yoga teaches humility, and my subsequent visits to Kaia have humbled me. First about the water. I still think they should install a water fountain. It just seems cheap not to. Second, the hot studio could use a good sanitizing steam cleaning. And maybe they could hire a pulmononolgist to assess oxygen availability in a 95 degree room filled with 40 or so hot, sweaty, heavy-breathing adults. Like being a stowaway with filthy immigrants in the steerage section of an 18th century ship. In any case, I generally love the classes and the instructors. Elizabeth is a particular favorite. Wise way beyond her 25 years, with an enormously forgiving approach. Lissa has a wonderful sense of humor and makes the hard stuff seem---well, still hard but in acknowledging the challenge, she allows her students to take risks and never feel too foolish, or maybe take risks and enjoy feeling foolish. And Matan....what can I say about Matan? The first class I took, I could not understand a word. And I grew up with immigrant parents, so accents should be a snap. Made the mistake of sitting (laying my mat down) in the front of the room, and since Matan tends to walk around a bit and I couldn't see anyone else, I couldn't even fake my way through the postures. But by my second class with Matan I was in love. I think this is like falling for your shrink---mildly inappropriate but whatever. I'm paying. So letting go of my thoughts during class became even more of a challenge. Is he even single, I wondered. Is he gay? Am I too old for him? Would he ever date a shiksa? How do I get him to touch me more during class? During my last class with Matan, I started to fall out of headstand (which I don't usually do), and he was there to catch me, which would have been an endearing moment except I may have farted just a little bit. Would this be a deal killer? Or would Matan in his yogic wisdom recognize the fullness of my release in Sirsha-asana? Also love rope wall....the most fun I've had being tied up outside the bedroom. read more

I cannot imagine comfortably getting into my practice at another studio in Connecticut. I find Kaia to be an overall welcoming place. Front desk staff is very friendly and helpful, and there are some great instructors. I prefer night classes since they are generally less crowded but there is a Wednesday gentle yoga class that just kills it with yumminess. read more

This place is the real deal -- two beautiful, clean, bright yoga studios and they offer a wide variety (and generous amount) of different yoga practices: yin, restorative, ashtanga, iyengar-inspired. My instructor (Megan) was a wonderful balance of friendly/funny and serious about the teachings. Props and blankets are seemingly brand new. Nice mix of clientele -- from SAHM's to businessmen to retired folk. It's very welcoming for a newcomer as I was. Will definitely go again! read more

Kaia offers a huge variety of classes and teaching styles. There is a nice hot room and many other non-hot studios. Because of the variety of classes, you may have to try a number of teachers before you find the right fit for your practice. Naturally, each instructor has his/her own style and pace of teaching. I prefer a vigorous and fast Vinyasa practice and I really enjoy classes taught by Caroline, Lisa & Cheryl. This size of Kaia means that there is almost always a class at a time that works for my schedule. The front staff is always friendly and warm. The cafe offers lots of lovely options. The juices and smoothies are made fresh (kale is literally juiced to order) so drink orders do take time to fill - this isn't fast food! The cafe staff is always open to making substitutions. If you have some extra time, there's no nicer way to spend a morning than sipping a smoothie post-class on the outdoor patio or amidst the cushions on the floor outside the retail area. I noticed a yelp review that was quite critical of the cafe - I would respond by stating the obvious, every time a large class lets out the cafe staff must handle a large number of orders all at once. Given that the drinks take time to prepare, this is naturally intense for the folks working there. If the blond at the cafe seems unfriendly, she is probably focused on serving the needs of the ten people she's simultaneously serving. I've been attending classes at Kaia for a year now and I feel a genuine sense of community the moment I walk in the front door. By genuine, I don't mean a faux friendly welcome and overly chatty instructors but relationships of trust and respect that naturally develop over time. If you regularly practice at Kaia you will get to know your fellow yogis over time and they are a lovely and supportive group. There are so many great teachers, too. By offering so many diverse teaching styles, Kaia is a lovely studio to practice if you are just beginning or if you are a committed yogi. Kudos to the owners for creating this oasis in the middle of Westport. My only request - please fix the doors to the hot room so they close easily! I like going to Kaia because they have a better class schedule than most places. But while the cafe staff is friendly, they hardly ever get my order right. I don't understand how that can be now that they have instituted the written order forms, but it still happens. My order has also been given away more than once, my chopped salad was missing ingredients, and it wasn't even chopped. High prices, long wait, confused staff, broken equipment...you are better off skipping the cafe and sticking to just the classes here. read more

I have been going to Kaia for almost a year now I attend 2-3 times a week. It is by far my favorite yoga studio. They have so many wonderful classes that fit in my crazy work schedule (my personal preference for my practice are the hot vinyasa classes). Diane teaches a wonderful Tuesday evening class that is perfect after my long commute. It challenges me then winds me down and seems to fix all my midweek problems. Elizabeth is a great instructor and has really helped me with working on handstands she is warm and sweet. Marissa & Beth (when I try to leave work early and make her class!) offer great challenging classes and they both have helped me so much in my practice. Overall I've had pleasant experiences at Kaia, it is very clean and the instructors are great. However, one of my the front desk staff recently has been incredibly rude, and for absolutely no reason. Even upon entering and checking in she seemed impatient and annoyed to be there. Then, when I simply asked for a water, and when she told me the options and I responded, she was defensive and made the unnecessary comment "OKAY I have to ask" and rolled her eyes. It just wasn't a great way to set the tone for what should be a relaxing yoga session. read more

After moving to CT from Santa Monica, I was so excited to see the opening of Kaia. I had been laid off and wanted to pursue my passion of teaching yoga. I planned on taking the teacher training last June. My Mother had just been diagnosed with Cancer and I wasn't sure if she had to have Chemo which I would find out a week after the deadline to sign up. I would be solely caring for her as my Father had just passed away a few months prior. I left Messages for the owner inquiring about how quickly the class fills up and that I had a few questions. . never heard back. I decided to check out the new space and she was there when I walked in. I told her my interest in taking the class and told her my situation. She coldly stated that the deposit is unrefundable, there is a strict deadline and maybe the best she could do is let me know if it fills up. I then realized this is not a place I would even set foot in for one yoga class. Needles to say, never heard from her. I've been going for years to Exhale, YogaWorks, Bryan Kest and Maha Yoga. All of my experiences were with kind and gentle teachers. . this is clearly all about profit and void of the real meaning behind yoga. Due to the lack of competition in CT, I'm sure it will do well but I hope the owner reads this and learns a little bit about compassion. Namaste. read more

The two stars is for Alicia, the massage therapist who did my massage. Other than that this place is horrible. The staff and the cliental are the coldest, most unfriendly people I've ever seen in a "wellness" type of environment. I've never been there before and will certainly not be returning. I had purchased a groupon and it was quite known. "Oh, you're the one with the groupon?," was heard more than once. Yes, so what I bought a groupon. If you want to drum up new business, treating new clients as if they are less than you is NOT the way to do it. Upon entering the yoga class I bumped by a woman with a giant purse. No "excuse me", no "I'm sorry", she didn't even look at me, just kept right on going. The yoga instructor could've been prerecorded and played back on a CD player. What a waste of space. While I'm not new to yoga I was new to the class; didn't acknowledge me at all. She truly was robotic. The massage and Alicia were both lovely. In the cafe I was bumped again by a man in a chair and again, he didn't even look at me. I asked the woman at the desk to break my $20. She said I had to pay for the tax on the groupon. "Okay then I'll get change once you charge me for that so never mind." She handed me two $10's and then asked me to pay for the tax...dunce. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Very clean, nice environment, and overall nice instructors. Entirely enjoyed the center until my second visit. Per second visit took a night course hot yoga vinyasa intermediate/basic flow. The instructor led the class into positions that were great except provided very little if none variation. I am a recovering athlete from hip surgery so instead of conducting the pose as instructed that would certainly lead to an unhealthy set back, I transitioned into a simple plank pose. As I did so the instructor stopped me and said "excuse me but can you please stop it is very distracting". Have never ever had a instructor relay that to me in front of the entire class, been taking yoga for 5 plus years. Usually the instructor would give other options knowing likely injuries and mind you this was not an overly challenging course. On top of that you pay a lot of money to attend these class so there is no way I am going to waste my one break for the day expecting flow yoga and told no please don't just sit there. The reason for the 2 is due to the lack of care. Funny thing is respected the instructor and her space and understand to a point, would have gladly chilled in the back and did my own thing when poses became problematic. But the least this instructor could have done was given another OPTION. Just moved from San Diego and so very disappointed in the yoga options of CT. read more

Very clean studios and nice set up. I wish there were mirrors and instructors took more time to explain the postures, breathing and what they do for your body - as in Bikram. My only real complaint is all the chit chat in the beginning and end of classes. I like a quite serene space for my practice. It should be like a temple in that studio. That said I will keep going. I've never been so disappointed in a yoga studio. Hands down the rudest front desk staff at both locations both on the phone and in person. I've been a member for over a year and have had nothing but terrible experiences with the front desk. One woman in particular at the Westport location seems to have an attitude problem. Every time I go in she is rude, no matter how nice you are to her. I totally agree with the other yelpers on here, it's a yoga studio and you expect the people working there to be nice and cheerful, not totally b*tchy!!!! While some of the teachers are wonderful (Caroline & Cheryl), others are awful -- went to an intermediate class that was at BEST a beginner/intro class. Another time they had a teacher who had NO clue what she was doing -- choppy class, all over the place, I thought she was a student who had to sub bc of a last minute cancel. If you want to be treated like crap by the girl checking you in and answering your phone calls - everytime you go, this is the place for you. read more

I love going to yoga here. Kaia Yoga has fabulous teachers and offerings. I've so far been to this, the Greenwich and Old Greenwich locations and I keep coming back. It's so rare to find a yoga studio that offers more than vinyasa classes and downward dogs. Sometimes you want variety, and Kaia Yoga offers just that. There's restorative, gentle, and rope wall yoga. I love all three. So relaxing. Deep opening postures. Alignment and body work. And the energy is great. When I find my zen mode, I feel like I'm transported back to that sunny world, where its tropical and clean, and the ocean breeze brushes against your face. Having these iyengar style classes is such a gem, especially considering that there are only a handful in NYC, and we have just as many in Fairfield County CT. I also enjoy their hot yoga classes, especially in the winter. It's not so crazy hot that I feel feint, but hot enough to just feel good and warm in a tanktop. Well, I would highly recommend this place to any newcomer. You can't beat their newcomer 30 days unlimited yoga for $30 deal. read more
