04/08/26 - My wife & I were up in Gurnee & were heading towards Deerfield. Some of my nephews & nieces were in town. My sister asked me to pick up some lumpia. Not being familiar w/the area I checked on Yelp & found Kaibigan in Round Lake Beach approximately 5 miles away from Gurnee. Kabigan is located in a small strip mall off of E Rollins Road in Round Lake Beach. I ordered 2 lbs of lumpia. The lumpia was shrimp & pork. They were very good). As you enter Kaibigan has a small restaurant on the right side. The left side has clothes & Knick knacks for sale. I unfortunately didn't have the time to look as I was trying to get the lumpia to Deerfield while it was still hot. lumpia is best when eaten hot. IF Im Ever in the area again I would like to maybe try some of their dishes & peruse the store. The only problem is I'm 38 miles from Kaibigan. The lumpia was very good. My sister really liked it so she had her son pick up food for his older brother's funeral the next day. read more

Your typical run of the mill Filipino store. Though it seems very disorganized, it's not. Serves me for what I need.

I bought a Bibingka yesterday, and I was disappointed with the experience. It seems the staff don't check their merchandise to ensure it's in good condition before selling it. The food is overpriced, and some of the staff members are not friendly. read more

I've never had Filipino food before so I asked the delightful lady behind the counter if she could recommend something. Instead, she gave a me a half dozen small bite samples! All were delicious. I ended up with the BBQ pork with rice and some egg rolls. Excellent! I've rarely been as enthused about a new (to me) restaurant as I am about Kaibrgan. The ambiance is nothing to write home about being basically a section of the small Filipino grocery with a few dinette tables and chairs, but the food is great. Definitely planning to come back to continue exploring the new cuisine. read more

It's like a small Filipino canteen where you can dine-in (probably not this Covid season) and buy a few snack or grocery items. The old lady who gave the food was so nice and friendly, she's like a grand/mom. :) The food were good and affordable. If you're looking for Filipino dishes that's home-cooked, this is it! We had our food to-go and ate in the car. They provide styro plates, napkins and plastic spoon and forks (utensils inside a plastic so you're sure they're clean). read more

My family and I have been going to this family owned store/canteen for the past 15 years. Always excellent service and the food is great. Prices are fair. I know the owner and she is a very nice lady. I know a couple of the cooks and they do a good job. About the only bad thing I see with the place is it's not open on Mondays. Love the fresh lumpias- which are huge by the way. Overall food quality is excellent. I have catered with them before and will again for future family parties. Can't beat top notch Filipino food especially out in the northwest suburbs- haven't found a place that comes close. Homemade siopao is delish as well... make sure you try both- you won't be disappointed. Grocery store is a bit lacking in size and selection, but I mainly come for the food anyways. read more

Very good homecooked Filipino food. I like their Empanada very much! Crisp crust and good inside. Crews many not smile much, but they are very wonderful, good, sincere people. You'll enjoy the taste of all the menus. They all taste like it should really be. read more

I went there with my daughter for lunch. It was my first Filipino food other than lumpia. We had pancit and grilled pork belly and the pork was especially super delish!! Will definitely go back there! The grocesry store part was interesting but being Japanese, I was not sure most of the items... I wish they sold fresh veggies there. read more

Nowadays, people should be more friendly and nice. But there is a short guy that works in their counter that is very rude to customers. Doesn't smile nor greet customers. This type of person shouldn't be working in customer service field as he seems to be always having a bad day. I under some days could be bad, but it doesn't represent the business well. And if he is having a bad day, it is still shouldn't be brought at work. Really find him unpleasant and rude. It is twice that we experienced that poor customer service from this guy. VERY UNFRIENDLY SERVICE. The guy didn't even smile or make me feel welcome. Seemed like it was a bother to get up from his chair to help me. No English, no signs as to what the food was. I wanted to try more things but just could not understand this guy and the other employee just stared at me. I'm going to have to learn how to cook my own Filipino food. There are really no good restaurants in the area. I came to Kaibigan with a friend for lunch, excited to have some food that would remind me of my mom's cooking. I ordered the 2-entree plate (pork with onions and longanisa), pancit, and a can of soda. My lunch ended up costing $12 which is expensive for Filipino food. I definitely wouldn't have minded the price IF the food was good. But more than anything, everything was overly greasy for my taste. I didn't finish my meal and I felt like taking a nap right there at my table. Not great when you still have to go back to work for half a day. read more

Obviously a mom and pop shop. Their grocery store section may have some things it that other places don't have but it looked like everything was out of place and or old. Kind of twilight zone ish. The buffet they have is okay. I liked the home cooked things and the nice lady working the buffet but really $7.00 for some braised pork belly, noodles, and rice. Wow a bit too much. Food was a different kind of Asian than I'm use to. More Korean or Pilipino. I gave it a try and I love to help out local business. I felt pretty welcome too being the only white guy. Have not been in here in a long while, but since they were the closest Filipino canteen I knew I called and asked if they had inihaw na Liempo, the male employee answered yes and said he would wrap it up for me. I rushed over as I was hungry brought it home and heated it in the microwave. But when I got it out, it gave out this bad odor that made me think it was grilled old pork. Didn't want to take the risk so it ended up in the bin. I wish they would be more careful in watching the expiration of the meat prior to cooking. Not everything is about profit. read more

For my first time, I came on Saturday when there was a buffet. This is a small canteen style eatery which has a lot of choices of the most typical Filipino dishes. We ordered sinigang pampano, palabok and lumpia. All were very good! The other dishes looked delicious as well, such as lechon kwali, adobo, bbq pork, tortang talong just to name a few. They were very busy and all the tables were taken at lunch. But I found it to be clean and food was fresh. There is plenty of parking too. If you are blessed to have a Filipino friend and have been able to feast on some Philippine cuisine then you know it is a very unique cuisine that has a wide spectrum of flavors due to past colonization of multiple countries. If not then kaibigan is the closest to Lola's cooking as you are going to get since Philippine restaurants are too far in between. Be sure to go early in the day, maybe lunch time to get the freshest plate. They also have a mini convenience store as well for all your Asian flavors. Small store, but many items. The person behind the counter was nice enough to guide me as to which fish sauce to buy. Also a small cafeteria is connected that offers a small variety of pre-made food. Never tried it but it must be good judging by the number of people coming and going during my short time here. read more

Small mom and pop shop. Customer service is fantastic. I love the fact they have ready made foods on the weekend. My personal favorite is Bilo-bilo ginataan. We now live in Boston, but whenever we are back in Chicago this is a place I head to straight away. read more

Yesterday we stopped in again to see what was available and to pick up more Lumpia. Everyone was very helpful and shared a small taste of the wide selection of dishes available. It was wonderful! We brought home fresh Lumpia ,Poncit, roast pork w/ onions, Pork Entamada and a couple vegetable rolls packed with bean sprouts and tofu.. We should have bought more Lumpia because we finished half of it before we got home. Kaibigan is the place to go for traditional food Philippines' and hard to find ingredients. read more

It is a little bit of home for Filipinos in the area. The food selection changes on a daily basis with some staples that they always have. The food quality is pretty good and they keep it clean all the time. The staff is helpful, the lady owner is very personable and makes you feel welcomed all the time. read more
