The food here is quite flavorful, but it suffers from the same thing a lot of places do when they keep saucy foods in warming pans: As the water evaporates, the salt gets more concentrated in the sauce and the food becomes far too salty. I'm not sure if there is a solution for this that does not involve making each dish fresh, but as for right now, I recommend getting an extra helping of rice and a squeeze of calamansi to help offset the saltiness.

Two choices and rice for $6.95. Great deal.

Excellent food. Nothing more needs to be typed...but, of course, I will type more. You walk in, and at the back of the restaurant there is a glass counter with a steam table. Walk up, take a look, and tell the friendly dude you've never been here before. He will give you a quick description of each item and often times a sample. I've been coming here for 4 years and I've enjoyed everything I've tasted. My favorites are probably: Kare-Kare, paksiw na pata, and Pancit Guisado, but I've probably tried a minimum of 10 different dishes and they are all very good. A couple of people commented that it isn't as good as their mom's cooking. Really? If I used my mom's cooking as my five star standard: no restaurant in the world would get more than two stars! People - don't compare restaurants to your mom's cooking! You will drive yourself nuts, and you will always be disappointed! I'm not filipino, but I've been to many Filipino restaurants, and the food at this restaurant is excellent.

I called late on a Friday night two weeks ago and asked the gracious hostess Cindy, if they had any lumpia. She said that they had run out for the day and were about to close. SMC Pampanga Express makes lumpia (Filipino pork egg roll) daily and it is very labor intensive. I asked her if I could place an order for 40 in two days, and she said yes. I also asked about pancit ( Filipino noodles) and she said that they had them also but usually run out by the end of the day. I ordered my lumpia (twice) and they are the best that I have ever eaten in any Filipino restaurant in the United States. If you are looking for pancit and lumpia, call first to make sure they are available. The hot table is excellent and the classic tastes of the Philippines is what you will get. don't overlook the packages of pastries that you cannot find anywhere! Halo-Halo is a must. This is a fantastic Filipino restaurant and it is very inexpensive.

"This is your home." Ay nako tita, kung itong ang bahay ko, siempre ako mag ta-taba dito." With orange island-like walls and a karaoke stage inside, this turo-turo style Filipino restaurant is rather homey, just like tita said. Okay, so she wasn't my blood related aunt, but as far as respect is concerned, tita and tito can cook. Turo-turo style translates to literally mean "point-point." Dishes here are precooked and and are given to you once you've turo-turo'd your ulam (dish/food). I came here with my mom, brother and boyfriend and we all opted for the kare kare as our main ulam. Dios ko, napaka sarap, just like how my dad cooks it, save for the generous slices of tripe. We also had a serving of the lechon kawali, lumpia shanghai and loganisa. Let me take a moment to explain this as I'm sure I'll probably never go back to any other kind of longanisa. The owner's dad (who owns the Waukegan Oriental Mart next door) makes the longanisa with a special Pampangan family recipe. This longanisa is fresh and sweet with a hint of spice. I was told it was made with all lean meat so there's no need to slice the longanisa when cooking it - YUM. Tita was very sweet and accommodating, I'd definitely go back. Just one suggestion: I believe the true Filipino dining experience should include Royal Tru Orange and Sarsi in glass bottles...unfortunately there were none stocked in the fridge.

Love this spot! Yummy Filipino food! They're so welcoming. They give generous proportion of entree's. My Husband & I were new to the town and when we looked this place up and check it out ourselves we were highly satisfied with the service & the food. Open everyday except for Wednesday. Highly recommend this to families attending a Navy Graduation for a weekend at Great Lakes, IL.

I guess it feels like home for some, which is always nice!

As a highly Americanized Filipino, I never really now what to expect when it comes to Filipino food places. BUT, I have to say I was quite impressed. The food was decent, the workers are more than willing to let you now what you're about to get yourself into, or what you're putting into your mouth. The overall customer service was just what I imagine "Filipino hospitality" to be. If ever I'm in the area, I would come back, not gonna lie.

Taro and sweet beans and ice, yummy!

Wow great food for such a great price!!!…read more I was picking up Navy graduation tickets a few blocks away and found them on Yelp. Glad I tried them out. The charge by how many entrees you choose. I got the 3 entree choices for $15, also added the rest of thier lumpia which were $1.25 each. They are only open until they sell out every day. They dont have set hours when of when they close, so if they run out of food you miss you. So get there early. It was only 1230pm and they were already out of several dishes. I got a spicy pork, chicken adobo and thier Wednesday special which was peanut butter pork. All of them were tender and flavorful. The inside was sorta small and had about 6 or 7 tables. I saw a lot of people picking up food and getting it to go. Several people in line asked if they had specific dishes like the bbq, which they ran out of. So seems like they have quite a bit of regulars. The guys working were super nice and since it was my first time there I asked what they recommend and they didn't disappoint. If you like this type of food, like I do, then I would highly recommend this place.

I'm nervous about this review, because I'm pretty confident I'm not the right person to write this…read more Let me start by stating up front that I am not now, nor have I ever been, Filipino. This is the first and only Filipino restaurant I've ever eaten at, so I don't claim to have a great frame of reference. Let me also add that I've eaten here five or six times, and to this day I have no idea what I've ordered. But it's soooo good. Everything I've ever had from Salamat Po has been amazing. So I want to speak to people like me who don't know Filipino cuisine- get in there and try it, you'll be glad you did. I generally go there for lunch, which begins with me standing patiently behind several people who clearly know what it is they're ordering, and they're ordering lots of it. While I'm waiting, I stare at everything in the glass case, and usually something new slides out of the kitchen. I might be wrong about this, but I think the food has been different every time I've been there. When I get to the counter, the server always helpfully tells me the name of whatever dish I'm pointing at, but I'm fairly hopeless when it comes to learning these things. The gentleman today was happy to let me sample anything I wanted, but by the time I got up there my heart was already set on something- a beef stew that wound up tasting as good as it looked, tender and flavorful, in an absolutely perfect broth. I also picked up some sort of fried, salted cinnamon plantain dessert that I'll be dreaming about for the next few nights. I found the portion size to be excellent, with a healthy helping of stew on a bed of rice- more than enough to fill me up for lunch and still have a few bites to share with a co-worker. There are still some things I'm looking forward to trying there- the dessert case has some glorious-looking puddings I need to get next time (unless they have those plantain desserts again), and there's a fish entree I've seen a few times that's been calling my name. Just a note for my fellow eaters new to Filipino food- bring your sense of adventure and an open mind. You'll find some flavors, textures and- let's be honest- some parts you're not used to. Try a few samples, and I'm sure you'll find a new favorite.

Came on a Thursday after lunch and it wasn't too busy. Ordered the Tocilog - which is sweet pork with a side of garlic fried rice, and an egg cooked any way you like. Also came with a side of noodles (pancit). Since I was here, decided to order some calamansi wings to go. And of course an ube milk tea. I really enjoyed my meal. The Tocino was a little different from what I'm used to. I'm used to a slab of pork pan fried with the fat fried to a slight crunch lol. I'm also used to tocino being red in color. I guess the tocino here is a little more leaner and no artificial colors - which works for me as I'm kinda allergic to red dye. But it tasted good, very flavorful. Loved the garlic rice as well. Pancit noodles were okay - could have used a little more seasoning but I could dig it Calamansi wings were low key fire. The crisp of the wings were perfection and the meat was not tough - still nice and juicy. I would get these again. They did have other flavors available that I need to come and try as well such as adobo and salt & pepper. Servers were nice and food came out pretty fast.

I'm not sure if there's other international markets in this area that are really anywhere near as large (super huge stores like H-Mart, Assi, Seafood City, etc. are quite far from Mundelein). This store is truly impressive in the amount of options offered from hot food to produce to dried foods to foods from other local shops. Due to the size of the store, there is considerably more room to walk around and check out products here even where they're busy -- similar to the experience you'd get a Woodman's. The amount of decorations and displays is definitely much better here than most other grocery stores, rivaling Mariano's in terms of presentation. Prices are fair here, particularly for the international items which are competitively priced here compared to non-specialty stores. The produce is fresh and plentiful, with options for more unusual fruits and vegetables as well. At the end of the store, there's also a spot for dining and a few small shops. Overall worth a trip if you're looking for a one-stop-shop for all your grocery needs. This provides a comprehensive and enjoyable shopping expereince.
