I really like this place, I go a little crazy. I like the maple bar with bacon, the apple fritter, bacon breakfast taco, and the sausage kolache that uses a BIG link of sausage sliced in half lengthwise. I think it has Monterrey jack cheese. All their other meat kolaches taste like a bland hotdog or something, do not order. I'd suggest they switch to fresher tortillas for the breakfast tacos since I think they use Mrs. Baird's or some similar type. But I thrill they use good maple bacon, I like it. So awesome! I've been waiting for college station to get a gourmet donut place for ages and I'm glad it's finally here before I graduate. I tend to like my donuts as plain and glazed as they come but I love Kai's fruity pebble donut! It's just the right amount of frosting and toppings that it doesn't overwhelm the fact that it's a breakfast donut not a desert. Absolutely delicious and a colorful way to start your morning. They also have the biggest and best kolaches I've had in college station. Their prices are great and the way that the donuts are presented is appealing to the eye as well. This place is really going to blow up in the next year or two, so get in and try it while you can. One suggestion to management- maybe consider being open late night once a week? as a college kid, cheap donuts are a huge part of my diet. The customer service was really fast even though there was a short line. The guy who rang me up was nice and cheerful which is always welcome early in the morning. I got a dozen mixed donuts as well as the cheddar jack boudain kolache, and that came out to be $14 which was a fair value since most of the donuts I picked were marked at $2 and $2.50 each. Unfortunately, they didn't have the matcha kitkat one, but when I asked about it, they said they hadn't made it for a while and would try to have it on Friday! The "cuteness" of some of their doughnuts are what lure people in, and who's to judge? I have been wanting to try this place out for a while and today I was able to come in. The display was nice and clean and had a great assortment of donuts. I ordered an egg and cheese croissant which they made for me. I wanted to get my free glazed donut by checking in on yelp but once I showed it to the gentleman he stated that he didn't know what I was even showing him. Really torn on writing this review. I am so happy to finally see a creative fancy donut place here in Aggieland! Honestly we were LONG overdue. Kai's has a creative and varied menu offering including donuts, kolaches, tacos, breakfast sandwiches, and more. The flavor combination for donuts are exciting and I want to try every single one. I have been looking forward to visiting for over a month and this last Sunday AM I made my way over. Here is what I got and my thoughts on each: Jalapeño sausage kolache - the dough was good, the sausage was awful. Didn't finish it. Philly cheesesteak ball - delicious and I like the portion size and price. It was a little bland for my taste and could use more cheese Plain Glazed Donut - very very good. Easily on par with Shipley's Maple Bacon Bar - the clear winner! Delicious and I loved the combo of sweet and salty/savory! I do think the glaze was just a bit too sweet, but a minor complaint So what, might you ask, is keeping me from giving them a 5 star? Well I save my 5 stars for places that just really are the best of their game...something that I can't wait to go back and eat again. I must admit, I'm a bit of a spoiled donut consumer. I spent several years living in NYC and after getting spoiled by eating at world famous donut shop like Dough and Donut Plant, it might be hard for me to ever be truly impressed by a donut again. While I enjoyed the donuts at Kai's enough, I didn't even finish everything. Yes, I will be back to try more. But I'm not craving them like I should be in order for them to earn a 5. Don't get me wrong, theres a more creative selection than your average donut shop, but the flavors are not out-of-this-world. I tried maple, toffee, red velvet, and plain glazed. The red velvet tasted like a regular cake donut, while the maple and plain glazed were good but also pretty ordinary. I WILL say that the donuts themselves are extremely soft and fluffy. most of them are a little bigger than your typical donut, too. But as for the flavor, I wouldnt aggrandize them to say that they go above and beyond shipleys or krispey kreme as other reviews have. But thats totally my opinion. This was an okay donut place, I was really excited to find a gourmet donut shop in College Station, however the past two times I've been there, the actual donut was kind of dry and stale. However, the toppings were gorgeous and delicious which made up for it. But overall, I think it's more for the appeal and presentation of eating a fancier donut. Other than that, it felt subpar to me. The price is cheap compared to many gourmet donut shops at ~$1 for one. This is a cute little breakfast place. Not much seating inside, so plan to take yours to-go. I was impressed with the creativity of the doughnuts, and the kolaches are huge... but although the atmosphere is cute and trendy, I still prefer Shipley Do-nuts. I'll admit I have not tried all their flavors of doughnuts, but their plain was a little too sweet... too much glaze... and the chocolate sprinkle hardly had any sprinkles (I'm a fan of lots of sprinkles!) and the dough had a strong flavor, but I prefer something more simple or mild. I'm definitely going to give them another shot, and their breakfast tacos looked good, too... but since Shipley has a better tasting doughnut, more seating, a drive-thru, and is cheaper... Stopped by the other morning to get donuts for co-workers. I had the sausage/cheddar and the jalapeno kolaches. Kolaches were very good. I got a dozen assorted donuts for the team and from what I heard, they were great! I was asked today why I did not go get more today. I work in Allen Farm, not exactly a short drive.
