Our site was sand/grass and level, with full hook up and pull-through. Martin is super friendly and made sure we were okay as we set up. And our neighbors were very nice. Okay, for the fun stuff - we had less than a 5 minute walk to Lake Michigan and beach walking. This isn't the part of the beach with lots to do. For that, you'll need to hop on a bike or drive. I imagine in the summer and on weekends, this place is busy and louder; we stayed on a weeknight and it was fantastically quiet - best night's sleep we've had this trip. A lot of full-timers here. If you get the chance, stay here!

We prefer not knowing our next door camper neighbor's business. I was looking for a campground to stay at for the weekend. But, every public campground was booked till October. I happened to stubble on Kal-Haven Outpost in a google search and this place was way better than I expected. The owners are a young couple who juggle their business and their little children simultaneously. But, they do their best being focused and attentive to their customer. They answer all my questions and always return phone calls (when I attempted to call them and they were busy). Our spot was in a wooded area and was about 50-75 feet away from the next door campers. Our campsite had a fire ring, tent area and picnic table. The bathhouse is accessible for everyone staying at Kal-Haven. The bathrooms were extremely clean and awesome. So much nicer than any other campgrounds I have stayed at. And there are very nice showers with a bench and hooks for hanging clothes and towel. I would recommend this place to everyone in a heartbeat! New, clean and nicest place ever! And I love the office/store/gift shop!

I called the owner, Jacob, and he was right there in minutes. We came up with a plan and he let me use his welder and grinder to get my spring shackle, and broken frame (grand design) fixed back up and for me to get on the road. The app was awesome because it made it so easy to see all the crafts, activities, and events happening throughout the day, so we never felt like we were missing out. The campground itself was well cared for. The pool was clean, the showers were nice, and I can't even explain how much we appreciated the air conditioned bathrooms after being outside in the summer heat. One of our favorite little surprises was the cartoons at night. It was such a simple, nostalgic touch that made the evenings feel special... even if the young staff had a battle figuring out the DVD player. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the flies. OMG... there were SO many flies that it made hanging around our campsite pretty miserable at times. It was also pretty expensive for a tent site. That said, when you factor in everything that's included for kids, I can definitely see where the value comes from. We'd absolutely come back, just with a lot more bug spray next time!

My kids favorite thing was actually the large playground right by our site. They probably spent the most time there! Convenient that the campground is only 10-12 minutes away from downtown South Haven and South Beach (they have lifeguards!). Three Blondes Brewing and Admiral Jack's were the restaurants we went to and highly recommend.

He had the run of the playground which he would rate a 12 outta 10... he could have jumped all day on the giant pillow. People were very friendly and helpful! Site was good once you got the trailer on the pad, only bad thing was the sewer was uphill from the pad so dumping was not easy, but just took a bit more work. I would not want this site if I had a bigger camper (ours is 25ft), would be tough to get set up. All in all, would highly recommend this place, far enough from south haven, but also close enough to go watch the sunset at south beach each night. Less than 15 min to van buren state park also!
