Good stuff here at Kaladi. I met a pal for a caffeine date and we were both pleasantly surprised with their offerings. You can buy roasted, or even unroasted coffee beans from them should you be the serious coffee connoisseur that's going to roast and grind your own beans at home. I'm far too lazy for that, but cool to know they provide the option. I don't remember what roast it was, but it was yummy and I'd go back. The coffee is really good. Service is always questionable otherwise this would've been five stars. They're too busy talking amongst themselves to get the order right. Even when you're the only one there. And then they just slide it on the counter and say here without making eye contact or telling you what the drink is (because you want that since there's been mass confusion among four people working on one order for one person) and continue their conversation with other employees. Or if there's multiple people there they're too busy talking they just stack the drinks on the counter without telling anyone that their drink is ready or which drink belongs to which person. read more

Yummy! If you're up for a splurge the Venetian cream is so yummy! We've gotten the beans to bring home and they are just as good at home. Bring your own cup for a discount. The workers are so sweet and friendly. You can definitely tell they have regulars and they get to know them well. Meh... They seem to be really popular around here as I've had their coffee at many places around (like Laughing Goat in Boulder). This is a classic example of over-roasted coffee. You can tell by looking at the beans and seeing how dark and even and oily they look. It shows in the espresso because at this level of roast coffee starts to lose its body and the espresso becomes less creamy and thin ( depending on the skill of the barista of course). I really wanted to test the quality of their beans and so I decided to conduct an experiment. I went down to their shop on Evans to purchase their green beans so I could roast them myself. The place was cool and they happily obliged. When I got home, I roasted the beans to a degree I consider not over-roasted, where one can really assess the quality of the bean without the charred dark chocolate flavors of heavily roasted coffee, and I discovered that these beans are simply mediocre to the quality of green beans that I obtain. And they are charging like 12 - 14 dollars a pound for their roasted stuff?? No thanks Kaladi read more

Having just moved to Denver, I really wanted to like this place because several people had recommended it. It has a hipster vibe, a diverse group surrounding the different tables....but it is dirty. "Stuff" is stacked in every corner and when I went to get a spoon, I saw that somebody had dumped their drink in the container. Okay, not the shop's fault. Then, I had to use the bathroom. The sign indicated it was unisex, fine, I opened the door and thought I'd gone into a storage closet, but then I looked to the left and saw a toliet-----stacked with crap like it was layers of sediment left there as a record of time. Needless to say, I looked at my coffee cup and little straw a little differently....I wondered how many times they'd been washed with droplets from the disgusting toilet. The coffee was good, just not as good as Cafe Aviano, and the dirities is more than I can overcome. I won't be back. read more

Starbucks Brainwashed Me! Save Me Kaladi Brothers!!! I forgot how much better these smaller coffee places are!! Sure, Starbucks is convenient, but here the coffee tastes better! The vibe is cooler. Two words! WALL ART! Lol! :D And the people, customers!, come up to you and say things like "good choice! That's my usual. I love it!" What?! I didn't know how to respond! People aren't just grumpy waiting for there coffee?! This is how coffee houses should be!!! Kaladi Brothers is a cool place to get coffee! Even the big, almost surly bear man taking your order makes me love this place more! When I'm at a Starbucks I feel like I'm on a conveyor belt. Me: "I'll have a Half calf mochachino. no whip. iced. Grande." Barista: "Name? Receipt? NEXT!!!" Lol! So far I've tried a Venetian Creme, which is iced and a tad on the sweet side if you like that. Did the 1 to the 2 this am and grabbed some joe after picking up some Trompeau across the street. I think I will be making this trip down the road quite often. I usually just get coffee right at Trompeau, which serves Kaladi Brothers, but decided to actually venture in today. This place has some great energy goin on. It's bustling with all sorts of people. I enjoyed people watching while in line. I had the vienesse latte, which is flavored with orange and cinnamon and got a mocha for the hubs. We both agree, it's a bit pricey, but absolutely worth it. Delish! Fresh roasted and fresh ground, and you know this because you can see it all happening as you wait. Props to Kaladi for being fair trade and organic certified. This is my kinda joint yo. Pretty bohemian coffee shop, although more like a chain (big surprise) than a place like Stella's. It's open, and the old space doesn't have much seating, but what this place lacks is made up for by some bizarre chalkboard-written, homemade charm. The drinks strike a weird balance--some are a lot sweeter than anything you could get at even Starbucks, while others are pretty much pure espresso. They are definitely more imaginative than most other coffee shops in Denver though--the Dante, orange+chocolate is a damn good twist on a mocha. Above all, I love going here in late spring to early fall for one reason: the Venetian Creme. Hell I wouldn't mind this iced drink in 2°F weather. It's made in a vat apparently, and served from a tap, but imagine some form of boston creme flavor that works perfectly iced. Seriously, try it out in three months or so. Three stars because it's not the best place to actually kick back and enjoy your coffee, but when you do find a drink you're in the mood for it's a great place to grab a cup and run. read more

My husband and I go through about a pound of coffee a week. We are insanely particular about our java. So much so, that we recently brought an electric tea kettle, French press, our own coffee mugs, coffee grinder and Kaladi Brothers coffee with us on a weekend in Vegas. Yes, we're THAT ridiculous. Don't I know it. We try to stay away from large conglomerates wherever possible (koffSTARBUCKSkoff). Several years ago, a dear friend and fellow coffeehound urged us to try Kaladi's coffee - and we've been hooked ever since. Counter service is usually fairly speedy (unless you're there at a high-volume time - in which case you may wait as much as 5 minutes for your bagged coffee). I've never sat at Kaladi Brothers to have a beverage or food - I can only speak to their coffee bean quality. That alone warrants the 5 stars. Their beans are dark and glossy with oils. The freshest of fresh. Our favorite coffees - Peru Cajamarca Andes Gold. Full body, creamy, chocolate aroma. Bolivia Colonial Caranavi. Another full body roast. Nutty. read more

Excellent coffee is a given about this place. The staff is great and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. Seating sucks. There is not a comfortable spot in the place! It's also not open late. My advice: grab a pound of wonderful Kaladi coffee and the free brew they throw in with each bag, and only sit long enough to check your email on that fancy iPhone of yours, then roll out. I live by DU and when I go to Kaladi, I'm a fan of local food + beverages places, I am disappointed in the quality of espresso especially. While this place makes a great cup of coffee and is close to home for me it's not my most frequent stop. It's no fault of theirs, it's just that for whatever reason I don't drive past it that often. It's very close to the DU campus. It doesn't have all the hidden nooks to work or goof off in that Stella's has, but it's very comfortable inside and pulls off a decent patio space as well. One of the things that I really like about it is that since they appear to roast and sell a lot of coffee by the pound, it feels like about 1/3 of the interior is consumed by huge bags of coffee. I'm going to make it a point to go in here and try buying some coffee by the pound, as soon as I consume the 2 pounds I already have left to get rid of. read more

Great location, good/ original / unobtrusive music (not sure what the reviewer meant who said they should hand out headphones?), lots of seating space as well as plugs for your computer. The baristas are all kind and helpful as well as knowledgeable. I love their Bakti Chai. Over all I am a fan! The first time I went to Kaladi, I was exhausted, had a couple of hours to finish a paper and just needed a new place to study. I ordered a shot of espresso, it was intense. Sat in the window (kind of uncomfortable for the long haul) and got it done. My parents came to visit and we stopped in after I showed them some of DU's campus. This time I was in a better mood, and actually took time to check the place out and read the menu. I opted for the Dante Latte.. or maybe its called the Cafe Dante... I can't remember. It has orange-cinnamon in the description. The barista told me it was pretty hit-or-miss, but I tried it.. and LOVED IT!!! The employees were really nice, I was a little worried it would feel too college-y, but its the perfect mix of people and its laidback, yet they're serious about good coffee. I've gone back a few times and always get the same orange thing. SO GOOD. They have a few pastries, including vegan lemon poppyseed cake, but I have yet to try it cuz it always seems to be sold out by the time I make it over.. must by tasty! read more

I'd give Kaladi Brothers Coffee 4.5 stars, only losing points for it's lack of outdoor ambiance. First and foremost, the coffee is excellent. They roast their own beans in-house (and have many sacks of raw beans stacked along a wall as part of their decor). They boast fair-trade organic beans to boot. Service was great and the barista froths his milk with pride like a true professional. Second high-point scorer was the Spruce Confection baked goods. I LOVE Spruce Confections. They are a great wholesale bakery from Boulder that produces some outstanding product. I stopped in to KB's in the afternoon and to my disappointment the scones were all gone, so I went for a cherry filled pastry thing. It satisfied my sweet tooth without any trouble! There is plenty of indoor seating, wifi (assuming free as there were plenty of students) and the decor is of a typical college campus cafe. Being near the DU campus, the crowd seemed to be a mix of college kids and trendy business people with just a dash of YUH (young urban hipsters), with a few beards and skinny jeans spotted. My only complaint (minor at that) is the outside sits right on Evans, and is quite busy and loud with vehicle traffic. There are seats outside, but no shade. Being summer I prefer to be outside. During the winter this might not be a big concern. For that I dock thee a half point. All in all, KB is high on my list of coffee houses in Denver and a must visit for all coffee drinkers! read more

I like my coffee like I like my liquor... I don't want to taste the main ingredient but would rather have my taste buds swoon to all of the other ingredients that help mask the potent flavor of the base beverage. I will NEVER drink my coffee black - I'd rather purchase the seasonal flavor that includes cookie crumbs, caramel & whipped cream then go for your average cup-o-Joe. My husband & I, after waiting for 5 minutes in a Starbucks drivethru, decided to swing by Kaladi's to get coffee on the way to the museum with the kids. He dropped me off and I ran in... and although at first I was daunted by the long line, my fears were soon eased by how fast the line was moving and also the array of options on the menu! The feel of the place... it's earthy, but not hippie. Kind of makes you feel like you're drinking coffee in an industrial grain warehouse with a bunch of buddies, about to shoot the breeze and take a load off. If you drink there, you get these huge mugs for your beverage - otherwise they send you off with your garden-variety to-go cups. The coffee... excellent! I went out on a limb and, instead of opting for a mocha latte (I'm a choco-fiend), I got myself an iced Kaladi and my husband took a hot Kaladi. Soooooo good! Just the right combo chocolate and vanilla with an oh-so-slight undercurrent of coffee (y'know, so your brain can get a headstart on the caffeine effects!). This is the BEST coffee we've found in Denver. And I've visited quite a few local coffee shops in the past 4 months! As other reviewers have said, the secret is in the roasting method. Be sure to check out Kaladi's website for details. It's one thing to roast your own beans, but their actual brewing method is pretty innovative as well. It produces a very strong brew without a burnt flavor. If you like your espresso drinks just a tad shy of insanely strong, request 3 shots of espresso in your latte. Otherwise they default to 4 shots for all large lattes, which is great for most people but a bit too strong of a flavor for me. It's well worth fighting the traffic in their DU area location (if you aren't on campus, parking nearby can be a nightmare) and hipster scene to try this coffee shop. I stopped in twice over the weekend, and if I lived closer I'd have it every day! read more

Upon entering you're greeted with a non pretentious, colorful coffee shop. It has a feel that is much more laid back then many in the city. I usually drink cortados but decided on an amercano, no milk or substitutes. The drink was fresh, bold and vibrant. It lacked the acrid lemony bitterness of many over roasted beans found at trendier spots. Quite possibly the smoothest americano in Denver. Very unique joint. It was great to see the beans roasting. The coffee was good, not a boring blend. I like the fact they have different coffees of the day everyday. The espresso was wonderful. Bold, lots of crema, and the flavor was spectacular. When we were there she made a espresso shot for another gest. He waited to long to pick it up from the shelf, so she made him a new one. He never asked her too. I also tried the hot chocolate the whipped cream was amazing. The rest was a bit weak. The drink became more about the whipped cream than the chocolate. Kaladi has hands down the best espresso and coffee in Denver. I have been going to Kaladi Brothers since the week it opened 9 years ago and never looked back. I grew up on Kaladi Brothers in Anchorage, AK (no longer affiliated with this one) and was super stoked to find this location when it first opened. Having been to both the Alaska stores and this one, I can safely say that Mark Overly's store here in Denver is better than the Alaska ones. I love those stores too, but they're slightly less good. I will drive across the city to go here and it's always worth it. The staff is great and I love the fact that they truly care about their coffee. Kaladi's is always packed and after one sip, it's not hard to see why. Definitely go here if you like great coffee. read more

ok so I'm in between with this place. My husband really loves their coffee and I really don't. I like it okay but I'm not crazy about it. They make their mochas with powder chocolate which is not a good thing. If you use powder chocolate you need A LOT of it to make something taste chocolaty-- I know because I grew up on powder chocolate drinks and syrup just works better. Even when I tell them to add a little more it's not stirred right and all the powder bubbles up at the top. My favorite drink is a mocha so this is why this place is only getting 3 stars. Kaladi is a great place to go near DU for coffee and hot chocolate! I especially loved their apple croissant. It was crisp and full of flavor. While the interior can feel a bit small when it's full, it transforms once students are on break, so when it's empty you really notice all the detail. The only thing I'd change is the lightning, it's too low. I don't have the best vision so sometimes the menu is difficult to see. Will be returning though! After searching Yelp for a new coffee shop to try, I decided on Kaladi's. I'd actually had Kaladi's coffee before (it's served at Trompeau, which is conveniently located across the street) and really enjoyed it, so I figured I'd make the trek to try it straight from the shop. I tried the latte viennese and oh boy, it was delicious! Cinnamon and orange? How could I resist? Yum-o! For a medium cup of this drink, it wasn't too harsh on the pocketbook: only about $3.50. The rest of the menu looked exciting. I'm looking forward to checking it out again in the future. Although I sat outside with a friend to enjoy the sunny afternoon, the interior of the shop had a great feeling to it. A bit funky and stuffed with bags of coffee. I usually get the straight-ahead latté, but wound up here after work. Dear husband gets no sleep when I drink espresso after 2:00, so I opted for some creamy, vanilla iced concoction that I wish I could remember. It was awesome. It was a bustling late afternoon crowd. I was surprised how many neighborhood regulars greeted each other: college folks, grandmas, young couples... a steady crowd of regulars means they must be doing something right. The baristas were a hoot. I really appreciated the drink recommendation, and was entertained by several bouts of singing and general mayhem. What brought me to this establishment was the donuts that were peddled here from Glazed and Confuzed. I'm not much of a coffee drinker and my only exposure to coffee is usually Starbucks so already I felt out of place having never gone to a local coffee shop. Ended up ordering a medium Kaladi latte along with a breakfast of champion donut. There's something about sipping a rich creamy thick frothy foam latte from a heavy mug rather than a paper cup. This spot is usually out of my way, but if I'm in the neighborhood I try to stop by. On a recent visit I decided to buy some beans, and the woman who helped me (I think her name was Clair, she had a cool muscle car tattoo) was super helpful. She was clearly knowledgable about coffee, and helpful in that great way that avoids condescension while still answering questions. Also, they sell a great product here: a reusable k-cup filter, for Keurig machines. So if you have one of those machines in your office (or home, Daddy Warbucks) you don't have to suffer terrible coffee, you can now load your own! This is not only one of Denver's best coffee houses, but one of the best I've found anywhere. Highly recommended! read more
