The food here was good or maybe I was really hungry... I got the taquitos dorados (5 pc). They were no toppings other than crema, salsa and a sprinkle of arugula. They messed up my sisters customized vegan burrito, and came back with the burritos "fixed" but it was still not how she ordered it. She just ate it because she was just too hungry at that point. Service was not great, took 20 minutes after being seated to meet our waiter. I think there may have been a shift change because our table got forgotten about for like 40 minutes. Our new waiter was our only saving grace when it came to us finally getting our food. She gracefully gave us an appetizer freebie for the extra wait although my sister couldn't eat it because it was not vegan. Getting the check after eating took maybe 20 minutes although I think that's because they were printing the photos the photographers walking around took of us. It did feel like we were held hostage for a while there cause it's not like we can leave without paying. Honestly it may have been the section we were seated in because I noticed a table of 6 come in way after us, but get attended by a waiter before us, get their drinks first, their food first, and their check first. Seeing that in front of our faces while we were hungry did not feel too great. As far as ambiance, felt like a club with club music. Came here to celebrate my bonus daughter and granddaughter bday, we did not like the San Pedro location, so we decided to try we were the first customers to arrive, so it was super cool, we had the place to ourselves, it was great, we really enjoyed it and enjoyed ourselves, it awesome, such a better location. When it takes about 5060977 chews to swallow a carne asada piece, you know that this isn't the place. The prices are not indicative of the quality of the food. Period. The modelo was flat and the chips were stale. You can make it look as nice as you want. Throw around a ton of colors all over the restaurant to distract you from how much this place sucks. read more

We checked this place out 2 weeks in a row on a Friday for happy hour. Arrived at 4-4:30 each time and no wait when we left but 6 ish there was a wait. Happy hour is 3-7 M-F I believe. My photos are a fail for yelp but a win for Kalaveras. Food was so good we ate it so fast I only captured near the end on our 2nd trip! Happy hour is the hustle here. Everything is $8 and we have just gone through most of that happy hour menu and it is always satisfying. We always plan to order an entree but happy hour is such a bargain it is hard not to start there and eventually finish there! Margaritas: I am a straight whiskey girl so normally this isn't my thing but for $8 at happy hour it became my thing! You can't ask for custom stuff, like less sweet etc because they are partially pre mixed but I found the lime and pineapple flavors to not be too sweet for me and they work. My husband loves sweet drinks so his favorite is Strawberry but also liked the mango. Food: Taquitos- we got chicken, very good. 7/10, would order again for a table since they are cut in half and easy to share with a group, I think it was 6-8 pieces. They have potatoes as well for a veg option. Tacos- we have tried all 3 on happy hour, street tacos, gobernador and Birria. Street tacos 8/10- standard set up and good quality meat, can't complain, asada was the best - this was 1 or 2 of my husbands favorite of full happy hour Birria- 7/10 good quality, fills your Birria craving since the dip has great flavor, not the best I have ever had but worth way more than $8! Gobernador (aka shrimp) 8/10- this was my favorite and I would give it a 8.5 personally but try to care about what my husband thinks (occasionally) and he wasn't a fan (but couldn't explain why) so will take .5 back for his non-descriptive explanation! I liked the crisp on tortilla but could have used more and the shrimp was cooked perfect! Nachos- we got asada. Happy hour is no meat they asked if we wanted meat and I said yes (because of course I do!) and realized later it was extra when we got the check. Great nachos and perfect to share and probably doesn't need meat but 7/10 because it was extra for meat. 8/10 if it came with meat. Asada Fries- 9/10! These were great and meat was included. Fresh and great quality and amazing deal! Both the fries and nacho come on a hot plate which keeps them warm and prevents getting soggy once at the table, which is a big win in my book! Wings- 8.5/10 fresh and great, asked for well done and it was. Would ask for light sauce next time since we are a dry rub family but it was good as was if you like a saucy hot wing. Again not the best wings ever, but 6 or $8 at that quality is great. Great buffalo sauce with good flavor. Ceviche- 8/10 not on happy hour so more expensive but we loved it. On a warm day and wanting something fresh would be perfect. With a cold drink and pool side it would be amazing! If it was a happy hour price it would be 10/10, but taste and price wise would give it an 8. Churro ice cream sandwich. 9/10 we loved this. Again I am not a sweet tooth person but I loved this and so did my husband. Would order again for sure. Table side chips and salsa are amazing, and normally need a refill with the 2 of us. My husband ate half the basket before I even finished looking at menu (typical)! Service is great, had Hector both times and he remembered us and helped remind us on which margarita flavors we tried the week before. We love that, it is a small touch but we appreciate those little things and makes us come back. Vibe: cool vibe and decor with fun music. Large open windows in front gives a great vibe of outside which is amazing on a typical nice so cal day. Lots of TV but nothing on them. I would love for there to be sports or something on those. Even if a video or something with no volume I wouldn't mind that as a visual option. Specifically sports for a big win! We will be back for happy hour for sure, maybe next week. And one of these times we will go outside happy hour and venture into the full menu because it looks amazing, just hard to pass up those deals. read more

My BFF and I came here on a weekday for lunch. There weren't many people there, so it was quiet and we could catch up. the interior is dark with a sugar skull vibe and I mentioned to her that if we had come on a Saturday night, it would be a totally different restaurant. I went there with a friend this afternoon and was not even acknowledged after we have been sitting there for about 10 or 15 minutes. Very poor customer service I will not be returning when somebody come to the door. You're usually greeted by a hostess or something, and there was nobody there.
