Love this spot, been like 4 times already and I will continue to go food is always bomb, drinks strong. Waiters/waitresses are cool too and it's always a vibe . I forgot the name of what I got but they were both recommended by the servers and they know what they're talking about. S/o to them . Thang ya for a great time always.

Went in for Paloma's and walked into a live music party the drink I got was a Jarrito's Loko a Mexican cocktail with tequila and Jarrito's soda with tajin. Our server was very fast but that was because my gf speaks Spanish lol. They have live music every Friday yall should come and feel the vibes

got this place after work one day when we were really craving tacos. Got the quesabirria tacos and they were delicious. The restaurant was super cute inside and had the cutest neon signs near the restrooms. I loved the drinks and food and would definitely eat here again when im back in San Diego!

Second time coming here. I don't recommend the all you can eat tacos kinda bland. Drinks are good some of the drinks are about $15 so we figured for $5 more why not get a flight which we're very tasty I'm more of a visual person so I did some research on the food and noticed some items were a little bit small portions for my liking for instance the ceviche was small for its price $20 You really can't ever go wrong with a California burrito and it did not disappoint for $23 I would say it was worth it had shrimp, meat and fries. If I was to come again this would be exactly what I would order.

I previously had an issue with the Whittier location but was unable to revisit prior to moving. Fortunately, I visited this location and had an amazing time. I came for brunch and enjoyed everything I had. I had small portions of tacos, an omelette, chilaquiles, and enchiladas, and none were lacking. The gentleman preparing the tacos, omelettes, and chilaquiles stand out. They are friendly, attentive, and conversational especially if you try to practice your Spanish like I did. There were a few large parties that were having fun, and I loved seeing them greet each other and have a great time. Give this place a shot if you haven't been here. You'll be taken care of. I'll definitely come back! Gracias!

I love Kalaveras so much that I not only dine in here but also at their LA locations. Everything is delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine. I can't even pick a favorite dish because it's all so good. You can tell the authenticity by their impeccable rice and beans. I also appreciate they use high quality grade meat. So tender and juicy!!! I tried their brunch at this Chula Vista location and I was impressed with the presentation of the mimosas!!! One was literally on fire and was fire haha I definitely recommend Kalaveras for the good vibes and good food!!!

My nephew mentioned to my wife, his aunt, that he wanted to hang out with us by grabbing brunch with us during Resurrection Day aka Easter. I knew it would be tough to find a brunch place especially during Easter. Fortunately, my brother-in-law found a brunch spot called Kalaveras and after he told me that it was All You Can Eat (AYCE) for less than $30, we were looking forward to spending quality family time with them. This was my first time visiting Kalaveras and I thought the food selection, the quality of the food, the addicting agua frescas, and the quality customer service by the employees I interacted with made this brunch restaurant a value for your money must visit. Kalaveras is located in Old Chula Vista specifically on 3rd Avenue where the old school shops are located. I grew in the South Bay, so I'm very familiar with places that many people who grew up here know about. La Bella Pizzeria is across the street from the restaurant. 7-11 is also across the street and Domino's Pizza is on the same side as Kalaveras. There's a free parking structure next to this spot and there's plenty of parking. We visited Kalaveras on Easter Sunday and in the park that is across from the restaurant, there was a Farmer's Market. You won't miss the restaurant with the colorful mural of skulls adorning the outside. As you enter, you'll immediately notice how spacious it is with black tables/chairs, booth seating, bar seating, and outdoor umbrella seating. Inside, it's visually appealing with foliage roof tiles, murals of Mexican culture such as skulls and Frida Kahlo, neon lighting, geometric frames, and there are televisions all around. The customer service from our server, the employees making the food, and the staff I interacted with was exemplary. Kalaveras is a chain restaurant where there are locations throughout SoCal with two locations in San Diego, specifically Chula Vista and Escondido. It specializes in Mexican cuisine and the main reason Kalaveras was selected for our family Easter brunch excursion was its under $30 AYCE price tag. We were blessed that my nephew treated our family to our brunch meal and I thought what we ate was value for my nephew's money. The highlights for me were the omelette station, the grilled taco station, the breakfast sausages, the pozole, ceviche, the Piña Colada agua fresca, and their dessert station. The cooks behind the omelette and taco stations stood out by making a delicious omelette packed with fresh ingredients and my carne asada and pork tacos were so tasty. The breakfast sausages were hearty and ate well with their fried rice. The pozole was hot and packed with meat. I loved eating the fresh tasting ceviche also packed with shrimp on top of a tostada. I was addicted and couldn't stop drinking the self serve piña colada agua fresca. I really enjoyed the variety of desserts they served, but my faves were the cinnamon sugar chips, the churros, the sweet rice, and the flan with chocolate. I wished I had more of an appetite to try more, but I got stuffed from everything I ate. For its price tag, food options, and customer service, I'd give Kalaveras a solid 4.5 stars. This Mexican restaurant was a great spot to enjoy quality time with my family.

We have walked by here several times and had often wondered. There was always fun music playing and it sounded like a big party. Well, one Sunday evening, 3rd Street was blocked off and since we parked on a side street, we thought we'd check them out. There was a worker at the front door, but I don't think she understood much English. Then the hostess came and walked me through the dining room to a table on the patio. Nice space and much quieter but you can still hear the music. They also have bands playing some evenings as well. David came out and introduced himself and took our drink order. Might as well have the Kalavera margaritas which were very good! I ordered a queso fundido to start. This actually came out with the meals, but that was okay. I had the Barbacoa plate. Nice tender beef, so good...and Scooter had the also tender and flavorful Carne Asada plate. Both came with traditional rice and refried beans. Beautiful presentations too! One of the nice things about Kalaveras is the doggy menu. We ordered Cako the Polito & Rice, which she really liked cause she ignored us...LOL! The food and drink runners were friendly, and David came and checked in on us. They all said hello to Cako which was really nice of them too! We had a great time! Great place to come to! Cako Approves!

How did I start my Labor Day weekend, you ask? Well, I'll tell you...by ducking out of work early, picking up my son from school, and catching the the tail end of a Mexican restaurant's lunch special! Thrilling! I know! But you haven't seen the inside! I suddenly had Rosarito Spring Break flash backs...you had to be there. Love the decor! As usual, I have to try the chilaquiles with red salsa & added grilled chicken on the side (I skipped breakfast. Don't judge me!). And they did not disappoint. Salsa picante indeed! My son had the Cantina sandwich. Sorry, no pics of that, as he wolfed down 1/2 of it before I could snap one for the Gram. Teens are savage! Anyway, he ordered an horchata & they brought him what looked how I imagine a fluffy cloud off the Baja coast at sunset would taste (sans alcohol). I had a Mexican Coke, because I was ill aware they decorated their drinks so colorfully! I am so basic. The service was excellent. From our hostess who sat us down, asking if everything was ok, to our server who asked if we wanted anything else. Very attentive. I believe I will frequent this place again & maybe dare an exotic looking drink! Friday is just around the corner!

We were in the area and decided to go here for the Sunday Brunch Buffet. It's $40 and comes with bottomless mimosas. The food was actually pretty good for being a buffet. As part of the Sunday brunch buffet they have a taco bar, omelette bar, and chilaquiles bar. The chilaquiles were very yummy! At the taco bar you can also get Quesabirria tacos and they were so delicious. They also have ceviche as part of the buffet too. They also have aguas frescas as part of the buffet too. I think $40 is a bit pricey but with bottomless mimosas and the tacos, chilaquiles, and omelettes it is definitely worth it. The service was also very good. The staff kept our glasses full with mimosas the whole time too which was great.

Updated review 12/2025 - Not much has changed from my early review in 2024 - customer service is severely lacking in this establishment! Yet, we keep giving them chance after chance. From not being greeted when standing in the door way, to being ignored by every server or employee working after being sat down. Your business is literally customer service (and food) A quick "hello, be right with you" or "will get someone" goes a LONG way. Especially when the restaurant isnt even full and every employee does there absolute best to not even acknowledge you, let alone everyone else waiting in line to be sat. Or not even look your way as they pass by. This last time, after being sat, my husband went to the bar to order our drinks and the bartender brought our drinks to our table. We've come at different times, thinking its a timing issue. No, its a not having good customer service skills issue, not training staff issue. We couldn't sit at the bar as we had our son with us this past time but even at the bar, there is room for ignoring newly sat customers. The vibe just isnt welcoming here at all. Does everyone here hate their job? They act as if they are super busy to acknowledge anything happening around them. If you look around the customers are waiting menus in hand and looking around. As we were not the only ones who had come to the bar to order drinks for our table. There is also some 168 reviews that have not been allowed, they also align with what we have experienced. Some weight should be given to those reviews. BUT the food isnt half bad and the drinks are made extremely well. It definitely hasn't been as packed (not even a little packed) as it use to be and that speaks volumes. We would like to enjoy coming here and be met with the same welcoming service for having our patronage being located in downtown Chula Vista and nearby.

Was famished and craving ceviche after going into TJ to get some foods to bring home. Service was great in the beginning and then they got really busy so my 20 minutes meal turned into 45 minutes waiting for the check. The ceviche and street corn both delicious and satiated by craving and left satisfied. For sure will be back but not late at night when they are trying to clean up and get out.

After dinner at one of the hotel restaurants, we headed over to C&C at about 9:20pm. We looked for the "special door". We found it, approached, and walked through two doors and entered C&C. The lights were dimmed to add to the ambiance. At first glance the decor was nice and the vibe was chill. We spotted two vacant tables and a row of vacant seats and tables against the back wall. Just as we were about to seat ourselves we were approached by a lady with a name badge. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name. She went on to ask us to exit C&C and wait outside for her to come and get us. We were basically being kicked out. WTF? There were vacant tables, so what was the issue? We were dressed nice as we just came from dinner, while others were dressed in t-shirts and shorts. We were taken aback, and we walked out questioning what had just happened. As we were standing outside she came out and handed us a couple of menus and she went back inside. Just then, a group of three exited and approached us and jokingly said that we could go inside. Then they said, "I can't believe she kicked you guys out, what the hell? There were tables open, what's her problem. I was shocked!" It was clear that what had just happened was not right. Not just in our opinion, but to others as well. Still don't know what the issue was. There were no signs outside to indicate that we were to wait. No one outside to guide guests. There were some velvet ropes, but they had been pushed completely to the side. I didn't want to be upset, but those three guests that spoke to us solidified our feelings. The lady came back out to tell us that we could now go inside. We were the only two people standing outside waiting. I decided to hand her the menus, said we were good, and we left to go grab a drink at the lobby bar. Not sure what the issue was but it was handled poorly. If there was some type of protocol to follow and it failed, she should have seated us, rather than kick us out, and then step back into the flow of things. Wish I could give this place a higher rating. Maybe we'll try again in the future.

The chocolate cake was so dry that it was practically inedible. The tropical décor and hidden tiki speakeasy "X" are interesting concepts, but the poor service and disappointing food overshadowed what should have been a special birthday celebration.
