Not to mention, they had us waiting like fools for everything. Service was slow! Asking for the bill and a to-go box? Wait 30-45min!The nail in the coffin for me was how pricey everything was. Expect to pay $50+ for ONE PERSON for 1 drink, 1 small appetizer, 1 shot for mediocre quality food/drinks. They overcharge the heck out of you. Beware. You should have someone friendly at the front who at least welcomes customers when they walk in. On top of that, the restaurant looked dirty and nothing like the photos posted on Facebook. I have been to a couple locations (ie Long Beach California) and the restaurants are great. Good food with a Hispanic vibe. The only complaint is the service. No matter which location, our server disappears for like 40 minutes after giving us drinks. This location in Moreno Valley was no different. Not sure why but it's been consistent. After helping our oldest daughter move into her new apartment in the Mission Grove neighborhood of Riverside, your favorite Yelp correspondent and gang were famished. Kalaveras, located three miles down Alessandro Boulevard in Moreno Valley, answered the bell! To our pleasant surprise, Kalaveras is apparently owned and operated by the same folks who operate MARIPOSAS, the stunning modernistic, butterfly-themed restaurant in Covina that has become our favorite new Mexican restaurant of late. Upon entry, you're immediately greeted by revelrous Dia De Los Muertos themed decor painted in eggplant purples and cyan turquoises. Despite it the outset of Saturday Night date night, 5pm, we were immediately seated at a corner booth and the drinks began circulating quicker than it takes a drinking game to start at a frat house! My daughter, her lovely BF Elijah and my bride of 28yrs demolished a quintet of lime margaritas, while I stuck with my obligatory Diet Coke, er, Pepsi. For food, my daughter chose a salmon salad entree, while Eli sported a two-item combo. Leti my lovely bride sampled the enchiladas verdes. As for me, once I'd intuited that the menu was strikingly similar to Mariposas, I instantly pinpointed the unctuous Quesabirrias Tacos. Pros: Outstanding Service- Our server was exemplary! Wish I'd gotten his name, but it eluded me. I hope my description does him justice so that management can suitably convey our appreciation- He was a middle aged, mustachioed Hispanic gentleman with a sleight paunch. He kept our drinks topped off, anticipated our need for extra napkins and even brought separate, wee takeout containers for my consomme and chili oil when I was unable to finish my entree at one seating. Drinks Packed a Stiff Kick- Kudos to the bartender for not skimping on the tequila! All three marg drinkers lavished the caliber of their drinks. Cons: Obligatory Gratuity?!- In nearly forty yrs of dining out, tonight's meal represents the only time I've ever been assessed an obligatory 18% gratuity fee...for a party of less than six. Mind you- I'm a gracious tipper who relishes rewarding good service...often tipping up to 25% of my bill to honor the hard work of our under-appreciated wait staff. But, while I'd expect an automatic gratuity fee to be assessed for larger groups (typically six or more) I was a little unpleasantly miffed or surprised that Kalaveras openly gashed me for the service charge even though our party was comprised of four of us. I've been wanting to try Kalaveras for a long time! They have multiple location around the IE. This location is in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking. On a weekday at around 5pm, there was not many people dining yet. The host had seen us and opened the door to let us in. The restaurant inside is so colorful and vibrant. Seating is dark and there is tables and bar seating. It combines well with the atmosphere. We were immediately checked in and led to a table. We got chips and salsa for the table. The table had small plates and forks and spoons already. The servers are very friendly and attentive. The menu is laminated with one side being food and other side being drinks. I chose the birria and my boyfriend chose the green enchiladas with chicken. We let the waiter know about his allergies and he told us he would let the kitchen know. We shared a drink, the Verano Sin Ti. We added vodka to it per the waiters recommendation. It was very good. As the evening wore on, more people started coming in for dinner. Soon after, our food was served. So good! Birra was hot and served with beans, orange rice, and corn tortillas. The green enchiladas were also served with beans and orange rice. Portions are a good. Everything was just delicious! Our total came out to around $66, which I thought wasn't bad at all. Staff is great and we enjoyed our time. Thank you! read more

I'm a loyal customer who eats at the Moreno Valley location as well as the one in Rancho Cucamonga pretty often and I'm a big fan of your food and service. Unfortunately, I had a really bad experience last night at the Moreno Valley location on August 19th, that was a complete change from what I'm used to. My main problem was with the Quesa Birria Tacos I ordered, this time from the happy hour menu. I've had this dish many times and the onions have always been served separately on the side. I do NOT eat raw onions. This time, they were placed inside the tacos. When I told the waitress it was wrong, she insisted that this is how the tacos are always made, which was confusing since it contradicted from all my past visits. Beyond that, the service was just poor. Our waitress rarely checked on us, and I had to request help from other servers twice. My side dish was also forgotten until I brought it to the waitress attention. It was the last item brought to the table buy then I was ready to go. The situation got worse when the waitress said my order might not be replaced because happy hour was over, even though I ordered it while it was still going on. She suggested I might have to pay full price for a new taco order. My sister had to step in and point out that the mistake was the restaurant's, not hers. I asked to speak with a manager...I was told there wasn't one on. I was told a staff member would come and talk to me. But the waitress intercepted the person and after the waitress spoke with him, he just walked away without ever coming to our table. It felt like they didn't care about my problem. Because of all these issues and the way my complaint was handled, I didn't feel comfortable eating the tacos I ended up paying for. I'm going to dispute the charge with my credit card company. When we first got there, we were sat down pretty quick but then when we placed our order we got a bunch of plates on our table and none of it was our food. Then we got our food.. I asked for red Chilaquiles with Asada they gave me green with Chicken. My husband ordered a chicken burrito and they put Asada in the burrito. We asked for napkins and they were never brought to us. They never gave us any utensils for our food. We had to wait for someone to walk by to ask for the utensils then we ordered a Michelada and they never brought it until we asked for the check and when we asked for the check they brought us someone else's check. I don't work in a restaurant, but there was only about 10 customers in there. It wasn't busy at all. But the best thing I can say is the food was really good not too much the service. read more

It seems they forgot about our party's reservation (made 2 weeks in advance). So our party had to be separated into tables that were not prepared to accommodate the party size of 20. At least 5 of the seats were inaccessible so only 15 of us were able to stay. Utensils were not given until AFTER the food was brought out. We were still charged the automatic 18% gratuity even though our party was separated at different tables with poor service. It also took over 45 minutes to pay the bill because members that wouldve coupled their items on the bill had no choice but to sit separately. I had a very disappointing and humiliating experience at this Kalaveras location on 6/19/2026. After finishing my meal, I was given my bill by the manager and then had to find someone to process my payment. The cashier took my ticket, charged me for my meal, and provided my receipt. I then left the restaurant. As I was walking away, a manager who identified herself as Maria ran outside yelling that I had not paid for my food. I immediately showed her my receipt and explained that I had already paid. Despite having proof of payment, she continued to accuse me of not paying and made comments such as, "This is how you do us? We give you good service and you leave without paying." Her actions caused a scene in front of other customers and publicly embarrassed me by accusing me of stealing when I had done nothing wrong. To clear up the situation, I went back inside and asked the cashier in front of Maria whether she had processed my payment. The cashier confirmed that she had charged me before I left. What was most upsetting was not the mistake itself--mistakes happen--but the way it was handled. Instead of verifying the facts before confronting me, I was publicly accused and treated as if I had intentionally left without paying. As a paying customer, I expected to be treated with respect and professionalism. I hope management reviews this incident and provides additional training on how to handle payment concerns without publicly embarrassing customers. No one should be falsely accused of theft after paying their bill. read more

First time here, and honestly, the place was just okay. The queso fundido had way more veggies than cheese and chorizo, which was disappointing. My ceviche plate was mediocre--the flavor was lacking, some of the shrimp pieces were tough, and it had an overwhelming amount of onion (felt like they sliced a whole one onto the plate). My buddies water had a nat too. Don't get me wrong they apologized and asked what they could do better but just a bad experience with the food. Super party like atmosphere. Fun and super loud. It's not a place to have conversations but if you want to have a wild party this is fantastic. I feel like the food is more like el Torito style. I'm more of an authentic Mexican food person. The food is good but not great to me. So for me I wouldn't go back here knowing my own unless i was invited to a party of some sort. I hit the fish tacos and they were really good. 4/5 stars The beans and rice were subpar as far as flavor goes. It almost seem massed produced. 2/5 stars The horchata is. Absolutely great meal between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM on a Saturday Combination plate with chili on hole, chicken, enchilada, and Barbacoa taco and a dragon roll ! Greeted immediately at front door and seated promptly. The server was a pleasant and knowledgeable. It was a great greeting, service was incredibly fast and meal was delivered quickly and very hot absolutely great service. The music was Eddie reasonable level to be able to hold a conversation. This place has become a staple for my friends, co-workers and I. Their service/staff is very friendly. The food and drinks are great. My favorites here are the enchiladas-both the shrimp and chicken, the pasta and the taquitos and when I have room their flan. They offer happy hour and daily specials M-Th with great deals. My friends and I have also been to their Sunday brunch which is all-you-can-eat with bottomless mimosas. The variety of food offered during brunch is amazing although the mimosas are just a tad watered down. I highly recommend checking this local favorite. Only downside is it can get noisy because they celebrate birthdays often here, but just join in on the cheering and you'll have a great time. read more

A Tale of Two Visits: Our first experience here was exceptional--service that went above and beyond, making us eager to return. Unfortunately, this visit was a stark contrast. We walked in at 9:06 PM, only to be met with a noticeably cold reception. I even asked, "Don't you close at 11 PM?" only to learn they now close at 10 PM--though this information hasn't been updated anywhere. The lack of warmth was disheartening, and our waiter's indifference throughout the meal left much to be desired. There were check-ins, yet no genuine hospitality. That said, the food was phenomenal--the saving grace of this experience. The flavors were on point, and despite the lackluster service, the quality of the meal compels me to give this place a solid 4 stars. So I had my birthday dinner on Sunday and it was a party of 20, which is why we made the reservation three weeks prior to make sure that we were accommodated correctly. When showing up they sat us at a perfectly good table that was lined up 10 chairs on both sides and then they ended up moving us telling us that we were sat at the wrong table. They moved us outside where the tables weren't lined up and they were actively asking other guests to move out the way so they can line up those tables for us and in the end we didn't even have 20 chairs. There wasn't enough room for us so they lined up three small tables and then gave us a table on the side that my family had to sit completely separate from the rest of the party . They didn't have enough menus because of the game being played that day, but I truly believe that reservations should be priority. When the food came, it was slightly cold and we didn't have any silverware and it took about 20 minutes to get silverware. We felt like an afterthought, as if they weren't prepared for us, even though the reservation was made way prior to prevent that from happening . We barely saw our waitress on top of that . Their chips & salsa are so addicting! We had the same waitress from my last visit so I knew we'd have excellent service. I love the decor and the big screen TVs that grace many of its walls showcasing some music videos with great beats and the customary scantily clad women. They had menudo, pozole, pancakes, bacon, sausage links, cereal bar for kids, waffles, beans, rice, Mexican guisados, chilaquiles station, & a variety of desserts! I've been to another Kalaveras location so it was cool they have one here in Moreno Valley. I have been to this location twice now. I really enjoy coming during their happy hour times (3-7pm) or margarita mondays. We haven't had too many food items but I've had the sushi roll appetizer and the carne asada fries during happy hour before as well-- I thought both were great. The ambiance is a chill vibe, the place is clean. I guess my only wish is that this place's lighting was darker or had more colored lighting like the other location I went to. ‼‼Danger- Fraudulent charges on my Debit Card after dinning here‼‼‼ If this has happened to you file a police report to investigate this business! First time visiting this restaurant today around 4pm and when it came time to pay, I gave the waitress my debit card and she disappeared for an unusually long period of time. Finally another employee brings my card and asked if it belonged to me since it was left laying around somewhere unattended. My receipt had writing on it so I brought it to their attention and they down played the situation since I instantly questioned who else had my card. Shortly after I received 3 DoorDash charges on my account and it was flagged for fraud on the 4th attempt. Thankfully they were small quantities totaling a little less than $100. That tells me that it was someone that knows to charge small amounts to avoid suspicion. I would like to think they accidentally gave it to the wrong person, but you're telling me that person was coincidentally someone that likes to steal CC info and knows to make small charges? AND afterwards the random employee picked me out of the entire restaurant and to ask if the card possibly belongs to me?! Sure... maybe. This was extremely suspicious and would like to think it was pure coincidence, but there are too many red flags. I will be filling a police report first thing tomorrow morning.
