Came here to enjoy the new restaurant that opened in our community with my family. We were very excited as Moreno Valley doesn't have a great Mexican restaurant... First off I just wanna say that this is NOT a family friendly restaurant. 1. The music is really loud. (Which is fine but just not an ideal setting for kids.) 2. There are TVs literally at every turn & they played the raunchiest music videos. Not at all appropriate for kids. If that's your vibe, cool, then you'll enjoy this place if you're creepy like that. 3. The prices are ridiculously high for their food. Wasn't authentic Mexican food but at least it tasted good. Honestly, I would have given this place 5 stars if I didn't have a horrible experience after my transaction updated on my bank to see I was charged more than what I agreed to for a tip. It was my first time here at this location, came for Sunday brunch, everything was great, but a few days later, the transaction updated and it was not what I signed the receipt to be my total. I called and spoke to a male manager, I forgot his name, but he looked for my transaction, told me I was right and would issue me a refund but I had to come in person because his system was not allowing him to do it manually over the phone. I couldn't come that evening so I agreed to come in the morning when the female manager was there, and she was so rude. She treated me like a liar, was very snappy and short with me, even stating she didn't have time to take care of my issue and she showed me a receipt said it was mine from that Sunday with a whole different penmanship than my own. I told her I specifically remember what I wrote and I even filled in the total after the tip and the receipt she was showing me a picture of did not have a total filled in, she kept telling me that "this is my receipt so that's what I put." Even though I even asked for her to review the cameras and she just was brushing me off. To me, it was never about the money, it's about the principle. How many ppl has this happened to and they didn't notice? And to treat me like I'm lying and be so dismissive towards me and say the complete opposite of what the first manager told me, it just left me so confused about how this place is ran. The carne asada taco was boil beef with their house sauce & three radishes. The chicken enchiladas was just that boiled chicken wrapped in a shell with another sauce poured on top. Run, although the girls are pretty, not much of anything to say about this place, the music is a bit too loud so you can't speak to each other without yelling, I don't think I'd recommend this place. The drinks are pretty small and for not a-lot of people the service isn't what you'd expect. This would be for the nightclub crowd not for a family to enjoy. Today was my first time trying this spot. I've always been curious and admired the artistic cuisine and decor online. I brought my small family in today and we were very impressed. We loved everything about our experience. The music and videos, drinks were worth every dollar and the food was so tasty and full of flavor. As an LA native, I've been looking for a local spot to grab drinks and food and I have found it. The servers and staff were very pleasant and happy to working there. Visited today for the brunch. It was very busy but we were seated within minutes. We went especially for the brunch buffet. Everything looked and smelled wonderful. There was a wide array of foods from an omelette station to a Mexican food station to aguachiles Aguas Fresca's, pastries, and desserts. We were extremely disappointed with the food. Nothing was hot. The enchiladas, the cheese was not even melted on the inside the tamales were dried out and tasteless it was quite disappointing! For two it was $113. So, my guy and I stopped by here one night for cocktails and snacks. It was a Monday night, about 8:30. They didn't close until 11. And we sat at the bar, looking for some playful banter. Our first bartender was adorable. Attentive, friendly... gave us the exact service we were looking for. When ordering our second cocktail, however, our server had changed. We now had a young lady and the manager. Service was fast but no flare. Dinner had arrived, and we noticed that all of the servers and the manager would congregate at the side of the bar to "taste test" the drinks as they went out. (If you're new, I strongly agree with knowing the flavors of the drinks for suggestions... but that's what staff meetings are for. Unless it's something new or unusual). This was an every drink practice. And not just one person. 3 staffers while the manager watched. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no prude. I've been known to buy my sushi chefs beers, or my bartender's cocktails, or even leave my server a tab at the bar for the end of shift, after I'm gone. But this was excessive and accepted. Overall, there were so many ways this place could have been so fun, especially considering they're open later. They could offer salsa classes as a way to bring people in later on weekdays, or offer video requests from the tables, as they were changing the music anyway. Came for Sunday brunch. Paid $50 for brunch buffet with bottomless mimosas, which was 90% orange juice, warm, thick, and the champagne and the juice literally separated from the OJ in the glass. The chile rellano looked like white chicken breast and tasted very "egg-y." The birria taco man was the BEST! When you walk in you get a beautiful take of their decorations. Flowers everywhere and such pleasant people greeting us and serving us. Brunch sounds like a good idea, right? That brunch menu on the Kalaveras website features some really delicious items and the prices seem reasonable, right? Well, you sit down and then find out that the brunch buffet is $40 per person (you can't order anything from the menu) and features things like fatty chile verde, watered-down posole, bland tamales, and sopes that were somehow both greasy and dry...? The "dessert" section was made up of shot-sized samples of room-temperature rice pudding, Jell-O squares with flies on them, and conchas that were hard and dry. Very disappointing. After eating, as the brunch crowd gave way to the lunch crowd, the music was cranked up so you couldn't have a conversation with someone across the table and we left... but not after paying $310 for six people (they included a mandatory 20% gratuity because somehow 6 people is considered a "large group"). We will not be going back there and it was sad that we met family there from out of town, because they now assume this is just what local restaurants are all about! read more

So the girls and I went here on a Friday afternoon at 4 PM. This place used to be a barbecue joint but that place went out of business. So here we are. Kalaveras is a Mexican restaurant with elevated food with a bit of fusion. They are doing some truly creative things with the food. They have a version of a California roll that is pretty tasty. However, do not expect a traditional California roll as this bad boy was falling apart and probably better eaten with a fork. They have a number of drinks with Mezcal, which is a new favorite of mine. The service was spectacular. She checked on us regularly and we got everything that we needed. I asked for my salmon to be cooked medium rare for my salad thinking that it was going to be either a hit or miss, but the chef cook that salmon absolutely perfectly! I hate when my food is over cooked. The salad was fresh and nice for a hot afternoon. All over the restaurant there are TVs playing music videos (mostly Reggaeton and Latin Pop). It was crazy loud in there. I had to constantly ask my friends to repeat themselves. I came in myself during happy hour for a quick dinner at a local spot, I was in town for a work trip. I sat at the bar and was frequently checked on, shown the happy hour menu, and served quickly. The tequila selection at the bar was pretty amazing. I ordered the pina chile margarita to start. It was a little on the sweet side but t was still very good. The chips and salsa had a good hint of smoke. I also ordered the 3 birria tacos and shrimp ceviche. You can never go wrong with the tacos, they were tender, crunchy on the outside, and the sauce to dip in was delicious. The ceviche was also very good, and spicy sauce it came with was HOT. My only issue with the shrimp was some of them hadn't been deveined so I just skipped those pieces.. The bathroom was super cute, the florals were a little dusty, but everything else within reach was clean. I bet this place is a really fun spot at night or for girls night! read more

They also tasted like ammonia, meaning they are no good, probably old and should be thrown out.
