The menu is expansive, the place is comfortable, and the service is great. But I think I ordered poorly. I ordered their tofu scramble ($19), which ordinarily comes with rosemary potatoes and toast. They were out of potatoes, so they replaced them with black beans. The scramble was poorly seasoned, lacking salt and any sort of real flavour, and the black beans were almost entirely unseasoned. This was a real let-down. Again, maybe I ordered poorly, and this dish really needs a makeover, but the food was really flavourless. read more

Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing but I wasn't feeling this place at all. I got the brunch burger, which in retrospect, sounds weird as hell, but I was hungry and thought I might as well try it -- like, they wouldn't have it on the menu if it was bad, right? I should have gone with my intuition; it was weird as hell. Just a straight up hodgepodge. Plus the potatos it came with were greasy and soft and tbh I could tell by the color of them that they weren't going to be good. My friend got the scramble which she also didn't like. The vibe of the space is okay, not really bad, good or coherent. Worst thing of all to me was the prices -- I really didn't like what I ordered so paying a whopping $20 for the dish really stung. I am not a hardcore vegan and this place still blew me away. Kale My Name somehow makes plant-based food feel indulgent, comforting, and crave-worthy, not "healthy" in a sad way. Even committed meat eaters at the table were impressed. The service was genuinely warm and on point, and the atmosphere is relaxed, cool, and welcoming without trying too hard. My first time trying out plant-based vegan food. There are many food items on menu for you to taste. I ordered the cauliflower wings and waffles (waffles, savory fried cauliflower wings, served with margarine, maple syrup, and buffalo sauce on the side). Mac and cheese balls and lavender limeade. Generous portions of food and the prices are very reasonable. Amazing customer service and the food is not far behind. Exceptional and attentive staff. Nice energy. Nice playlist of music playing. Just in case you want to eat outside. There is a nice size patio in the back where you can eat and enjoy some fresh air. Cozy and relaxing chill place to come and enjoy some good vegan food. The CEO of Kale My Name was presented. He was so down to earth and well grounded. He took time out to go around each table to greet the customer. We have been wanting to get to Kale My Name for a while and finally made it in on a Sunday afternoon. We lucked out with a nearby parking space on the side street which was also free. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and efficient. The dining room is colorful with green, brown, peacock blue, and purple elements. We decided to try a few appetizers. We ordered the Buffalo cauliflower bits, the empanadas and the ajvar and pita. We enjoyed all of it but if I went back I'd definitely order the empanadas. The potato filling was delicious and the outside was fried up nicely. It also came with a creamy dip on the side. The waiter was a bit too efficient and assumed we didn't want anything else so he brought us the bill. I was thinking about getting a slice of the vegan cheesecake or pie but decided perhaps it was a sign that I should skip dessert. So we did. If we are in the area we'd stop in again. read more

Finally got to try this place during my visit home to Chicago. It's been on my list since I heard the LA one closed and I never got to try it there. To start, parking is fairly easy on a side street. My friend has a soy allergy so I was glad to see that they had many soy free options on the menu as well. I ended up getting the taco sampler and my friend got the veggie burger. We both enjoyed our food for the most part. I only wish there was a bit more seasoning in the food which I think would've kicked up the flavor a bit but otherwise it was good. I've had a problematic relationship with Kale My Name over the years. I wasn't that crazy about the food, which is kinda important in a restaurant. We vegans really want to support vegan establishments, but I'm not willing to pay good money for okay food. And there was the time I showed up at a lunch hour, wanting to order to-go food, and I was told they could only take an online order. Standing there in front of the staff wasn't sufficient. I left and went to another restaurant that was very happy to see me and take my order in person. But in the last year, a good friend moved to a condo about four blocks away from Kale My Name, and she became a big fan, even though she is not vegan. So much so that every time we get together for dinner, she wants to go to Kale My Name. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a marked change for the better in the quality of the food and service. Things have definitely improved. The buffalo wings are 100% delicious. The portion is designed for sharing. I've ordered it as my entree, and I couldn't finish it. The lentil soup is another goodie. There are many places, mostly Middle Eastern, that make good lentil soup, but they often use a chicken broth. The version here is plant-based and completely filling and warm. I really like it. The mac 'n' cheese balls are a guilty pleasure. Best to share them, because they are filling. I recently had them as an entree, and I could only eat two of the four. They reheated well in the toaster oven the next day. The empanadas are okay. The flavor is good, but they are dry. Best to dunk them in some kind of salsa or sauce. The Greek fries are good and perfect for sharing. The two sliders are okay. Not much flavor. It's great that all the sauces are vegan. Making them vegan does nothing to diminish the flavor. The ranch is particularly good. For desserts, the vegan cheesecake is excellent. And cakes from Pie Pie My Darling are available. In case you didn't know, Pie Pie My Darling makes killer cakes. You can't go wrong with one of those. And they only stock four restaurants in town, so it's almost worth a special trip here to get the cake of the month. The restaurant has a nice patio in back. The big advantage is that it is in back, and not along the street. You're not swallowing exhaust from the 78 Montrose bus while you're eating. Service is still spotty. You may have to wait a while to order your drinks, make your order, get your order, or get your check. Or maybe not. I think sometimes staffing is a little thin, so it's a good idea to plan for a relaxed pace. I wouldn't come here if I was in a hurry. You may have noticed I order a lot of appetizers. That's because portions are large, and I'm not a big fan of reheating. I still want to try the nachos, and maybe split a wrap with my friend. There is a limited but satisfying list of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Bottom line: I am perfectly okay when my friend (again) wants to go out of her way to eat at Kale My Name. (We saw a movie at the Century at Clark and Diversey, a place surrounded by restaurants, and she insisted we go way over to Montrose and Kedzie to Kale My Name). read more

The customer service was great. I had the potato empanadas. They were amazing. There was a nice flakiness to the empanada. The Mac and cheese balls are amazing. This was my fist time trying vegan macaroni. I would definitely get that again. My main entree was a jackfruit wrap. I didn't like it. I am not a big fan of jackfruit. Fries were greasy and mushy. Burger was "OK", but also greasy. The tacos were again just OK. Black beans tasteless, like straight out of a can. The BBQ? buffalo wings, soggy, but spicy. $57 ???. There is nothing better than a veggie or vegan restaurant that makes you forget youre not even eating meat or any of the other bad stuff. Id passed by Kale My Name so many times and seen different events going on there and finally decided to stop and give them a try - LOVED IT!!! Ive had a chance to try the cauliflower buffalo wings, fried avocado tacos, greek fries, italian seitan wrap, and the homemade tinas veggie burger - everything delicious! The fried avocado tacos really surprised me. I love avocados and them being deep fried with the salsa was simply delish! The buffalo cauliflower wings were SO GOOD! Cauliflower can be ANYTHING! I was so skeptical about them, but they are breaded and fried and then tossed in buffalo sauce - PERFECTION!!!!! Besides that, they have good drinks, deserts and the service is super personable. Kale My Name is my new favorite place!!!! I kept seeing so many good things on the menu then the Southern Super saved the day and had all the fixings I wanted! Garlic Kale was the perfect texture. Fried cauliflower wasn't heavily breaded. Mac & Cheese ball was probably the best out of the entire box. I wish there was more than one but next time I'm getting a full order. The fries were a bit over cooked and soggy by the time they got to me but I did delivery so I guess that's what happens. I tried about 5-6 different sauces because I'm a sauce girl and I'm officially addicted. The awesome sauce and garlic aioli were spot on. And did I mention they have so many gluten free & soy options!!!! Which is sometimes hard to find at these vegan spots. It's a win for everyone!!! My love had secured a Groupon for Kale My Name, so we recently checked out this relatively new "100% plant based restaurant" for dinner takeout. Kale My Name is located at the corner of Montrose and Spaulding. They also have a secluded patio space if you want to dine outdoors. No one was dining inside during our brief visit, and I am guessing this is because of Covid-19 restrictions. Neither of us are vegetarians, but we both enjoyed our wraps. Each of the wraps came with a side of fries, which were a bit limp once we brought our order home but they were still tasty. My quinoa hummus wrap was also filled with carrot, tomato, cucumber, red onion, and Mediterranean dressing. The wrap is gently grilled, so there is a slight crispness to the ensemble that works. My love was surprised that I scarfed down my order in one sitting (she should not have been that surprised!). She also liked her Caesar avocado wrap with kale, sun dried tomatoes, parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing. To start, the owner's an absolute gem of a human, and it really seems like he cares about both the quality of the food his restaurant produces, and the wellbeing of his employees. The food encompassed an eclectic variety of cultures - Lebanese lentil soup, Venezuelan 'taqueños' (I'm an ignorant American and don't know if this is typical Venezuelan fare or a playful adaptation), and Montenegrin ajvar, but all came together in a delicious brunch ensemble which masterfully walks the fine line between bar food and upscale American fusion food. I'd highly recommend getting the aforementioned taqueños, which were among our favorite things we ate, along with their new Hawaii burger. Portion sizes were pretty reasonable too, so any entree is itself a whole meal. My issue is with the service- I saw the server cleaning the silverware with his bare hand. Literally wiping the fork with his bare hand before wrapping it in the napkin. Not sure who needs to hear this but NEVER EVER wipe a fork with your bare, unwashed hand then give it a customer. That's so gross for so many reasons. The two servers also didn't acknowledge us for 10 mins but greeted the two tables that came in after us. I had to go up and ask for my silverware from my server. Came here with my vegan bestie on a Wednesday for lunch around 12pm. Only about 3 other groups were in the restaurant (but I didn't check on their patio) and the server was so welcoming and friendly. I am not a vegan, but love trying new things and supporting a more plant-based life. We had the tequenos and Buffalo cauliflower for apps. The tequenos tasted like real cheese to me - crisp on the outside and gooey cheese inside - very yummy! The cauliflower was cooked perfectly and didn't have that heavy breading other places use. She ordered the Greek salad. The tofu on there looked delicious! I had the Italian seitan wrap with fries. The wrap had tons of flavor from thr mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes - i really enjoyed it. Kale My Name is a tasty vegan restaurant tucked away in a quaint neighborhood. My group and I visited the restaurant around 8 p.m. My group of four ordered two strawberry daiquiris, mac balls (Mac and cheese balls), a taco salad, jackfruit wrap, Beyond meet tacos, and Buffalo tufu wrap. Despite the mac balls being deep fried mac and cheese, they tasted pretty "healthy." If you're visiting Kale My Name, you're probably a fan of healthy, vegan options. But this appetizer just missed the mark for me. There were four to an order, so perfect for us. All of my group mates really enjoyed their food. For the price, the portion sizes are really good. My taco salad was pretty large, but for me it had too much arugula. The strawberry daiquiris were fairly weak as well. The environment of the restaurant is pretty cool. The lights are dim and a bright pink neon sign is on one of the mail walls over a couch - a good photo op. The staff were very friendly too! I would like to revisit Kale My Name for breakfast or a smoothie to get the full, well-rounded experience. But I think I'd recommend this place to folks who enjoy the vegan and/or vegetarian dining experience. read more
