The quality of chicken is exceptional and better than any other "fancy" Chinese restaurant I've been to I believe it's a husband and wife who run the business. Don't let this small gem of a restaurant fool you. Kaleyard is located in a strip mall (Clubhouse Plaza) and quite possibly the best Chinese cuisine I have had in a very long time. We dined inside and ordered the Honey Shrimp with walnuts and the Chow mein. Both were outstanding. Shrimp with walnuts is always a good choice but Kaleyard takes this entree to another level. The creamy mayo based sauce with the crunchy shrimp was so very good. The candied walnuts and size of them (large) added that perfect something special. I even asked the waiter what the chef did to make them so delicious. She explained quite a process to make them. I believe it. The Chow mein with beef, shrimp and chicken was excellent and the pan fried noodles were done right! The sauce was rich and tasted of quality ingredients. This is a small family owned business and I am so grateful we have found our "go to" Chinese restaurant. read more

I was very excited to try a new Chinese restaurant. Ordered delivery. It arrived earlier than the designated time. The tangerine chicken was delicious. Dark sauce, not battered and fried. Hunan chicken was also good. Lighter sauce, bamboo shoots, onion, green pepper, a little heat. BBQ pork fried rice. Pork was good, peas and carrots, bit of egg, rice a little dry. Very bummed out with everything! I was really craving Chop Suey and Egg Foo Young for New Year's because it reminded me of my dad. We used to eat Chinese food together, and I thought it would be a nice way to honor those memories. Unfortunately, this experience was a huge letdown. The Egg Foo Young was more like scrambled eggs and a watery soy sauce and the Chop Suey barely had any vegetables--and the ones that were there were old, soggy, and brown. The brown sauce tasted like nothing more than soy sauce and salt, which wasn't appetizing at all. To make matters worse, I found hard pieces in the food that almost broke my tooth. The spring rolls arrived soggy but were okay after baking them to crisp them up. Overall, the quality didn't match the $80 I spent. It left me wondering if this restaurant is going out of business because the care and quality just weren't there. Next time, I'll stick with China Moon or Asian Kitchen in Laguna Niguel, they've never disappointed me. read more

I try not to give one stars but the food was terrible and we threw it away after a couple of bites. The place was empty, so we figured everything would be cooked fresh. We were very wrong. 1. Mongolian Beef The beef quality seemed ok but everything tasted pre cooked and thrown together with sauce and heated up. The onions were overcooked and slimy. The sauce had a very bitter after taste. It wasn't fresh. 2. Tangerine chicken. It tasted either pre or over cooked. The sauce was ultra thick, and so sugary that it wasn't edible, instead, it was horrible. They have calorie info for each dish on the menu. Based on the oil in the beef and high level of sugar in the chicken, I doubt those calorie numbers are correct. I never thought I would say this, but Panda would have been a much better choice. If you want good Chinese food in south county, I recommend Peony in Laguna beach and Asian kitchen in Laguna Niguel on golden lantern. I wanted to give this place a try since they claim they are a healthy Chinese alternative, but they are the exact opposite. Probably the worst food I've eaten in a very long time. Nevertheless, the containers and paper bag the food came in were very good quality. At least they got that right. read more

We love the food and service at Kaleyard. We live out of state but visit at any opportunity when we are in town. As usual tonight was incredible! We had the veggie eggrolls as an appetizer. I don't know what happened. 4.6 stars on google maps, this place seemed like a good gamble. Unfortunately it was not. I was excited and ordered $80+ of things and nothing was good except for the vegetable egg rolls - they were ok. But the orange chicken was re-heated i think or overly cooked, the kung pao beef was one of the worst I've ever tasted and that's usually my go-to, then we tried the chicken with Chinese peas and it literally tasted like it was sitting on gravy. The wonton w/ creamcheese was the weirdest shape I've ever seen and they were very stale too. This place was completely empty when we arrived and the Mexican restaurant next door was booming, so I should have went with my gut. I wanted to call the next day and ask for a refund, but I know that was a headache I didn't want to go through. I see on yelp the rating is reduced to 3.2 stars which is closer to the 1 star i rate it at. read more

I'm hoping the owners read this review as it's for constructive purposes. We are local Laguna Niguel residents and have enjoyed your take out over the last year during COVID. We came by today for lunch and had a sad experience. We did not want to say anything while we were there as to not embarrass the older gentleman that waited on us. We attempted to find an email or place to message you but there wasn't anything on Facebook, your website or Google. When we arrived we waited a few minutes to be greeted and we actually thought your business was closing. No customers and random ping pong table, etc. The gentleman/waiter was not friendly and sat us. He then just said "drink". We said water. He brought us two glasses of tap water with very old and freezer burned ice. We were just going to leave but you were already working on our order and it would not have been very nice for us to do, so we decided to stay. It was a very long wait, and, sadly, the food was not very good. I'm not sure what you are going through but you should know what your customers are experiencing. Although we may still take out again, we definitely will not come back to dine in. We hope you figure out how to bring the quality back to your restaurant, service, quality and ambiance. I just have to take a moment to give a shout out to this great restaurant! Despite living down the street, we only first tried their food through delivery during the pandemic. I don't even think I ever considered eating here because the name sounded like it was a salad place. It was only a few years ago that I found out it was Chinese Cuisine (not my favorite cuisine, but i do eat it). I get the name as they are saying we are healthy Chinese food, but it seemed to be a barrier to me for years. I ordered online in November or December 2020. I had Szechuan Shrimp and wife had a mild chicken dish. I am not really a fan of most American Chinese cuisine as it is always kind of meh in the flavors, even when they put a little pepper on the menu next to it. The shrimp I had that night earned that pepper although the spice was just restrained enough! It was spicy, robust and had fully developed rich flavors. My thought was, "these folks know how to cook!" The wife was equally impressed with her dish. Tonight I went in and ordered take out. I was very sad to see that there was no one at their few outdoor tables and it didn't appear that there was activity otherwise. I hate to see this, especially since I have had at least one very good meal here. I ordered, and tried Szechuan beef this time and wife had black mushroom and mushroom chicken. Our reaction was the same, awesome food! Honestly the sauces are amazing. The food is very very good. As I said, it was very depressing that they were not bustling in there and that does not make sense to me. Good food is hard to find and this place is a hidden gem! My Spouse and I enjoy dining here for lunch. The lunch menu is fantastic and full of many choices, and their Chicken Curry and Sweet and Sour Pork dishes are fantastic. The soup, salad and egg roll served prior to the main entree selection are incredibly fresh & delicious. Health conscious Chinese made with very fresh ingredients and they have plenty of vegetarian options on the menu! Plus you get great service whether you are dining in or having your food delivered. Yes....delivery in Laguna Niguel. AWESOME! Their creme cheese wontons aren't my favorite, but their vegetable fried rice has the option of ordering it with brown rice and it comes with a ton of fresh veggies. This place is a below average at best and that is being kind. We had tangerine chicken and chicken chow mein. Bland and very little flavor. Below average. It was edible but immediately we all looked at each other and said, we will not order or eat here again. For all those who say how good it is, do yourself a favor and drive a few miles to Dana Point and try Little Asian Kitchen, the food and flavor at the Little Asian Kitchen will blow your mind especially if you think Kaleyard is good. Yelp currently has Kaleyard at 3.5 stars. I usually like to see at least a yelp of 4 stars or more. Expensive for below average Chinese food. Nothing special at all. read more

I have heard in the past about how healthy the Kaleyard is for Chinese food. So I was comfortable splurging when a craving for classic Chinese hit, outside of the Panda Express I grab for my son. I'm very disappointed with the quality, even taking into consideration how establishments are struggling with staff shortages and inflationary issues. However, massive quantities of salt used should be within the cook's control. Along with how plain steamed rice is prepared. Paying $68 for lunch I would've at least expected a long term establishment to offer a better prepared rice, along with knowing to keep the sodium levels in check. I typically only post positive experiences, but $68 for a Chinese lunch delivery of this quality deserves a fair warning to others. read more

Kaleyard is our go to resturant for Chinese Food. The Husband and wife team who own and operate the resturant do everything in their power to please and provide delicious food. We are on low sodium diets and they willingly comply with our no salt requests. Our special needs and requests have always been accommodated. And we find the extensive menu has many favorites. We have been coming to the restaurant for years. It is an out of the way location from our home but has always been well worth the extra few minutes drive. After dropping off my food he disappeared and never came back I was on my lunch break and had no cash so I left a note saying I would return to pay. I ordered for pick up, chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and sauteed 3 delight. She said 30 minutes. I walked in at 25 minutes and I see the lady sneaking in the back door with bags. Then I hear someone cooking, 25 mins after I ordered. Mind you, there's NO ONE in the restaurant, no other tickets up, no food waiting for pick up and NO ONE calling in an order. 50 mins later it is ready, I ask for fried noodles and of course they are out. The 3 delight was NOT a delight at all. 2 shrimp a couple of strands of beef and chicken and a plentitude of mushrooms and cabbage. HORRIBLE....And to add insult to injury our fortune cookies were empty! No fortune, smh...I do not recommend this place ever read more

Meh. Food is super bland (is that an oxymoron?!) and very expensive. Something that mystified me was the claim of healthy food delivered in PLASTIC containers! I prefer my food without a side of BPA thank you very much. The food (and packaging) is suspiciously hot as in, I wonder if they nuke the food before delivery? Putting the items in plastic is horrible enough but then the food "sweats" in the container which takes a fried dish (Tangerine Chicken) from simply bland, but now add soggy so you end up with Bland Soggy Tangerine Chicken for about $13. BBQ Pork - bland. House Special Chow Mein - soooooo bland. In addition to a waste of money and with regard to taste, it was a complete waste of calories! They raised the prices about $2-$3 dish since moving from Dana Point to Laguna Niguel. Big mistake in this economy. What seemed to be the only woman working there was standing behind the register most of the time scowling and was very inattentive. The service was horrible and she didn't come back once, ask how anything was or offer to refill beverages at all between delivering the food and the check. She seemed like she was annoyed that we were eating there. Huge crowd next door in front of Amber's Cantina and we were the only ones eating at Kaleyard. I'm sure the service has a lot to do with that. The food is alright but not as good as it was in Dana Point. Tangerine Chicken was slightly overcooked and a little dry. Mu Shu Beef was alright but it's pretty hard to screw that one up. read more
