Scrambled eggs with soy sauce. Egg foo young lol

Very bummed out with everything! I was really craving Chop Suey and Egg Foo Young for New Year's because it reminded me of my dad. We used to eat Chinese food together, and I thought it would be a nice way to honor those memories. Unfortunately, this experience was a huge letdown. The Egg Foo Young was more like scrambled eggs and a watery soy sauce and the Chop Suey barely had any vegetables--and the ones that were there were old, soggy, and brown. The brown sauce tasted like nothing more than soy sauce and salt, which wasn't appetizing at all. To make matters worse, I found hard pieces in the food that almost broke my tooth. The spring rolls arrived soggy but were okay after baking them to crisp them up. Overall, the quality didn't match the $80 I spent. It left me wondering if this restaurant is going out of business because the care and quality just weren't there. Next time, I'll stick with China Moon or Asian Kitchen in Laguna Niguel, they've never disappointed me.

As a former wok chef, I'm not easily impressed, but their food hit me right away. The Kung Pao chicken tasted exactly like the nostalgic flavor I grew up with -- it reminded me of my uncle's cooking. Perfect heat, proper wok aroma, balanced sauce... this is how Kung Pao is supposed to taste. I've been searching for this style for years. I'll absolutely be back. Places like this are rare.

Upon entry we were told to sit where we liked. Our server took our drink order. Our order was taken soon after. Our server was helpful but a bit abrupt. The restaurant was very clean. The dining area in the front was rather smallish. A fountain with an elephant figure on top was the focal point of the dining area. An odd display of hot mustards for sale greeted us as we came into the main dining area. There was more seating in the back but this was cluttered with paper goods and such. Our food came out relatively quick. We ordered two lunch specials. The first was house chow mein with rice, an egg roll and egg drop soup. The second was almond chicken with rice, an egg roll and egg drop soup. We were given complimentary crispy wontons with spicy mustard and sweet and sour sauces as appetizers. The chow mein was okay. Nothing special. The egg rolls were good. The egg drop soup was good. I am not a fan of this type of soup but it tasted as it should. The cashew chicken was good and had a generous amount of cashews. I am not sure what type of rice this was but I would have preferred the run of the mill white rice. When our check came, it was accompanied by two pre-packed fortune cookies in a repurposed wild planet tin. Music was playing a little loudly. It was kind of soul/jazz. It was pleasant but did not fit the atmosphere of the restaurant. This an okay restaurant but I would not go off the beaten track to eat here.

Met some friends for dinner at Peony on a Saturday evening before we went to a movie at the Rivian theater which is 2 doors down on pch. Our server was cookie, and he was fantastic. Attentive, cheerful, and pleasantly talkative. Offering menu and drink suggestions without being pushy or high pressure. We settled on 3 main dishes and rice. Everything was tasty. I think that the mushu pork was my favorite. My buddy's wife treated me so I can't speak to the prices but everything that I saw on the menu seemed to be reasonable. Interior: With a handful of tables/chairs and bar seating, it's considered small and casual. Based on the food and atmosphere, this place seems geared towards having people order to-go and delivery as you can eat their dishes family style. Food: My total take-out order came out to approximately $58 (without tip). I ordered enough for 3-4 people. It came with an extra side of rice. I would recommend getting a fried rice dish over a noodle (specifically the chow mein) dish due to taste or repetitive oily fats and heavy meat. Order variety of dishes for a better experience based on texture and savory. Ordered: Pork Chow Mein, Vegetable Fried Rice (could be better with smaller chunks of zucchini), Wonton Soup (small, tasted water down, wonton chips come separately but there's no big change in taste, the vegetable chunks doesn't blend together), and Orange Chicken (similar to other chicken with sweet and sour sauce). Overall, an average restaurant that gives you a good fix of Chinese food in the local area. The service is fast and the workers themselves are cordial and respectful. I wouldn't feel compelled to eat inside or take friends on a daily basis. Service: I was overall impressed with the fast service (my order took less than 15min to prepare for 4 dishes)

They over steamed / cooked the shumai, XLB, and wonton so the dumpling skins were too soft, almost mushy. Maybe some people prefer this texture? Smashed cucumber has large portion, flavor is quite light compared to Din Tai Fung and Paradise Dynasty versions. Din Tai Fung and Paradise Dynasty are more expensive, but their quality and flavor are better so I would still go there for my dimpling cravings. Staff is friendly.
