Living in Rocky Hill, I've heard about this place consistently since it first opened. I've been meaning to visit but the time was never right. This past weekend I suggested a girls night out and we decided on dinner at Kaliubon. It was all of our first time and it was just as good as we heard! First off, the location is kind of hidden away off the Silas Deane. But the inside is gorgeous. Such a great vibe. Open kitchen and full bar as well. We started with the garlic edamame and let me just say, if you see a seasoned edamame on a menu...GET IT. This was so good. We could have easily eaten several more bowls! I ordered the Kaliubon Ramen which was a traditional spicy pork ramen. Very good! Wish it was a little more spicy though. My friends both ordered the chicken ramen which they loved. I think I want to try that next but ask for it spicy! Definitely coming back a few times while the weather is nice and chilly. read more

I was super impressed with Kaliubon, it's a shame it took me almost 2 years to discover this place! I'd say it has been the best ramen I've had in Connecticut. They have a large variety of menu items, and are also constantly rotating new things onto their menu (sometimes seasonally). So before visiting, peruse different yelp posts to see if they might have some off menu items! I ordered the truffle shoyu ramen which had a great broth; the kind that you'd want to slurp up after finishing your noodles. The meat was cooked well and had nice lean meat as well as fatty. The next time I visit, it's going to be hard to convince myself to try something different just because the truffle was SO good. If you're going for bubble tea, I was unfortunately not that impressed with my mango milk tea, and I tried my friend's thai tea and that was too sweet for me. We ordered a few appetizers for the table: - dumplings were ok, presentation was definitely beautiful but taste wise it wasn't that memorable and the wrapper could have been less stiff. - crab baos: we ordered off menu based on what we saw on yelp beforehand, these were so unique and also delicious! - spring rolls: the sauce they used on top was creamy and a good touch, I was surprised with the cream cheese in the filling. I was a fan though Also got some desserts: - green tea creme brulee: never tried anything like this before! The green tea was definitely there, and the cook on top was perfect. Try it out if you're in the mood for something different - mango passionfruit ice cream bon bon (don't remember exact menu name but it's something like that): passion fruit was very strong, and presentation of both desserts were A+. This place definitely hits the spot on a cold day while healing from a cold. We celebrated Cinco de Mayo at a ramen place--should start this new tradition because the place was nice and empty! Starting off with the brussel sprout salad and the pork boa, I thought I overestimated my abilities to eat because I was stuffed! The brussel sprouts were in a tamarind dressing that essentially sank to the bottom so we had to mix that well. Wished it was a bit thicker so it cling onto those bad boys. Nevertheless, I cannot complain when it comes to fried brussels--oh my weakness! The pork baos came out shortly after and I will say, two for $8 was not the best deal for how small and underwhelming they were. The pork was tiny along with everything else.. I've have had a more girthy portion elsewhere and this one did not hit the spot. When our ramen came out, I thought--"this is it.. this is where I let the food just take me" Upon first sip of that hot delicious broth, I felt like the world had come to peace. It was what I needed in that moment. Aside from being 85% full from the appetizers and the rest of the country celebrating with tacos and guacamole.. this ramen was the best thing at that moment. It was a long yet heroic defeat as I ultimately finished the whole bowl. Chopsticks were thrown, napkins were drenched, but most importantly--stomachs were bursting at the seams. I took my son here for his 17th birthday. He loves noodles. I drive by this place regularly, but never checked them out. The food is delicious. I ordered a spicy curry noodle bowl with shrimp. I usually buy a bag of Top Ramen from the grocery store for 27 cents. I feel like I cheated myself of the true noodle experience. The bowl I had was FULL of flavor, noodles were cooked perfectly, shrimps were jumbo and the portion was great. I couldn't finish it. The waitress was very kind and attentive. Heck yes. This might be the best ramen place in the Hartford area. The broth on the Tonkatsu was rich and a deep pork flavor to it. A nice bit of fatty without too much gloss. The pork was also quality. The egg was just right. Hey, if you want to play with the big boy ramen places, which it clearly does, I'm going to hold you to a high standard. I should've added some nori but it was plenty filling. I didn't try the miso version as it had a seafood base and You have to add a spicy option if you want it. Overall, it is definitely some of the better ramen Ive had in central CT. The lamb bao was outstanding. It had some minced jalapeño in it that gave it a subtle but distinct burn. This is my go to ramen place. I've been to both the Wethersfield and west Hartford location and they are pretty much the same. The only difference is in Wethersfield you don't have to pay for parking. The appetizers come out pretty quick which is always nice to take the edge off before your meal. I've been here several times and this place is great! Definitely the place to be with the cold weather coming. So stop in for some ramen soup to warm you up. The servers are very friendly and efficient. The food is good. I tried the beef spring rolls for the first time the other day, they came out nice and hot, they also had cream cheese inside, delicious! I usually get the tonkotsu ramen flavor is good, not too salty. They did a fair substitution if you did not want something in the soup. You can also add in whatever you would like with a small extra fee. The beef ramen has a bit of a spicy kick to it so if you like spicy I recommend that one, the meat is nice and tender. read more

The bao was fully and everything inside was so savory. We also decided to get Boba and it was great. I feel a lot of restaurants that offer boba don't have the best but this boba was amazing! It was Sunday night and an hour before their closing, and the appetizers we ordered (fried calamari and Kaliubon dumplings) came relatively quickly and were tasty, as well as the 4 ramen dishes we ordered -- miso ramen, tonkotsu ramen, Kaliubon ramen, and Tokyo chicken ramen. The Kaliubon ramen is spicy and has peanuts in it. The miso ramen was stronger in flavor than the tonkotsu ramen (a tad saltier), and the Tokyo chicken ramen, while very flavorful and tasty, was the "lightest" in flavor. It was all delicious, and we appreciated the speed in which the dishes came. Kaliubon is my go to spot for ramen when I have a craving. I have been to both the Wethersfield and West Hartford locations. They have some of the best ramen broth I have ever tried. It's consistently delicious broth and delicious toppings. One of my favorite ramen flavors is the Truffle Shoyu Ramen. I could drink that broth forever if given the opportunity. It's so flavorful on its own and when you add the multiple ingredients to it there a flavor bomb is created. Their chashu pork is always always always perfectly cooked. That is also one of the main reasons they are my go to ramen spot. A lot of ramen places give you really fatty minimal meat portions of pork but Kaliubons pork is always a perfect balance and always just cooked really well. Coming to visit from NYC, we definitely have our fair share of ramen places, but Kaliubon hits the spot with their fresh, hand-pulled noodles! We ordered quite a few appetizers since they all looked so good! The lamb bao is a must try, it was probably my favorite item on their menu. It definitely has a kick to it, so if you don't really eat spicy foods, make sure to have a drink ready. We also got the pork bao, dumplings, garlic wings, beef spring rolls, and brussel sprout salad. The dumplings were delicious, wings were crispy, and spring rolls were interesting. They were filled with cream cheese inside. As for the ramen, we ordered the Kalubon Ramen, TanTan, Shoyu, and Tokyo Chicken. The TanTan was my favorite. It's different having a dry ramen without broth, so if that's your thing, give it a try! The Shoyu ramen looked amazing too. Meats were all very tender, broth had lots of flavor, and noodles were cooked just right. I see some reviews saying that they were stingy on the amount of noodles they give, I didn't find that to be my experience. How have a not reviewed this place yet? Best ramen place in CT! They are so friendly here and serve food pretty quickly! To start, their presentation is always on point and beautiful! I love the pork and lamb buns and how the have a kaliubon stamp on them! The buns are also filled but not overfilled so you can still get just the right amount of ingredients in each bite! My favorite starter is the garlic wings. Great garlic taste and crunchy wings! I love the kaliubon ramen and the tantan mazemen! For the kaliubon the broth was on point. Creamy and flavorful. My only wish was that it was a full egg rather than just a half egg. I also wish the chasu was a little fattier. The TanTan was the first time I have ever had brothless ramen. The crunch from the peanuts, onions, and bean sprouts created a balanced texture for the noodles. I also love being able to break the yolk and to stir everything together. I had to leave my table to chase staff down five times due to no follow-up. first for water, second for a fork and spare plate for my child, third for more napkins and finally to cash me out after sitting at an empty table for 10 minutes. The servers NEVER checked back EVEN ONCE after bringing out the food. They just socialized over at the bar. If you are formally asking for 18%-25% percent tips on every bill, then provide a dedicated service waitress, and NOT random one-time food-runners. I knew this was going to be a legit stop when I pulled into the parking lot and saw a heavily graffiti covered truck with nyc plates unloading tons of fresh produce. Any ramen place that gets their product straight from china town is a place I want to love and support until the end of time. When I arrived it was lunch time so I ordered the lunch special which had a small appetizer type item of your choice and a bowl of ramen. Since I had been stalking social media before I arrived I knew I had to have the wonton ramen and the dumplings. I also ordered a side of steamed pork buns since I love them. They opened quietly just a few weeks ago, and word of mouth is buzzing! As we were walking in staff spied us, greeted us immediately and seated in a comfy booth. The place is hopping, bright and upbeat music is playing. A lovely young waitress with a great attitude came by almost immediately and was very helpful and encouraging! First time here (after trying to come on a Monday and finding it closed) and we will be back. Simple menu (I mean it is a Ramen joint) but they also have variety of Appetizers and steamed buns to mix it up. Opted for the lunch combo and for 14 dollars it really filled me up. Choose the Ramen Combo which came which a full size bowl of Ramen and an appetizer choice. They were accomedating and gave me a tofu steam bun in place of a the pork option. Nothing's better than knowing that new restaurant that just opened and you've been waiting months for is nothing but GREAT! Despite a soft opening, this place was completely buzzing. Consistently busy throughout dinner and the staff was friendly and as attentive as they could have been but in all, it was on the much slower side today. But as this is their soft opening, clearly nobody was expecting such a crowd and this place has been open for only 1 and a half days when I visited, I'll give them a break and ignore the waiting times. As long as they were nice and attentive today then I'm good. But as for the food, oh man was I happy. We ordered the Lamb Buns AND Pork Buns which were both to die for. The lamb was spiced and cooked nicely, chewy but not hard. The pork was very tender and perfectly seasoned as well. Both meats were accompanied by some lightly pickled vegetables I believe, but the thing that stood out was the cucumber that was added. EXTREMELY refreshing and was the perfect addition. I just had a feeling the chicken wings were gonna be good and yes they were. Crispy on the outside, not over or under sauced, perfectly cooked and juicy on the inside. I had the Korean Sweet and Spicy sauce on mine and it was on the spicier side, I loved it. As for my ramen, it was one of the best I've ever had. I live here in Wethersfield and usually I'd drive 15-30 minutes to get some. LUCKILY the genius who opened Kaliubon Ramen in Wethersfield has extinguished the Ramen drought in this area. This explains why a soft opening was impossible, everyone was dying to try it as they had a "coming soon" sign outside for a few months and as soon as they opened, locals poured in. Like I mention earlier, a lot of these people will be coming back as the Ramen is GREAT. I had the Wonton Ramen bowl and the wontons had shrimp and pork. It was clear that they were homemade, wonton wrapper was delicate but held together nicely and there were clear flavors of shrimp and pork. It was really good and I'm so glad I ordered it. Broth was great, mine had a clear broth that had great flavor. Half of a century egg, mushrooms, a small sheet of seaweed, and of course noodles were also in my bowl. The noodles were PERFECT. My husband and I went in on a Tuesday night for dinner after hearing great things from a coworker. The reviews did NOT disappoint. We started with dumplings in my first bite I realized I had never tasted anything so fresh and flavorful. My husband and I each got our own ramen bowls he went with a hot and sour ramen while I had a chicken ramen. His dish had incredibly tender beef and a great spicy flavor. My chicken bowl held subtle fresh flavors that I wanted to spice up. The server brought over chili paste and a little dab did the trick! At the end of the meal I noticed another customer sipping Boba tea. I asked her server about it since I have never had that she quickly brought over a small sample for me to try and offered to buy me my very first Boba tea. No, but seriously, their pork baos are yum: wrapped in a fluffy cloud of rice bun, the tender pieces of fatty pork are entangled in pickled veggies and cilantro, and they. are. good. They're some of the best baos I've had! Their ramens are all delish, though I'm partial to the Kaliubon, because I'm a spice-queen and I actually like the mala (numbing Szechuan style) spice that accompanies this dish. I believe all their noodles come with a soft egg, and it really is such a nice touch. The broths are also flavorful. A major plus! The only thing that stops me from giving this place the full five star rave review is that their bubble teas aren't quite up to snuff. Made from powder and way too sweet. And for whatever reason, whenever we order them, they always mess up our order, and give the person who ordered brown sugar jelly the tapioca balls and vice versa. Who knows why this is?? I don't have many experiences with ramen other than the instant varieties, but I know this has got to be some top tier ramen. Delicious would be an understatement. I got the curry ramen with chicken, my brother got the dry noodles (that weren't pictured here) and his girlfriend got the beef noodles. We were all blown away by how delicious it all was. Sweet, spicy, decadent and every bite really makes you want more. I don't think I've eaten anything as quickly as I ate that ramen. It was almost too good. We also got lamb bao buns which were also stunningly delicious. We were shocked to even see it on the menu since it's always pork everything (which my family doesn't eat). My only issue with those was that my bao bun was probably only half actual lamb meat and half muscle or something that I physically could not break down or chew through. That was kinda disappointing. The staff was also very very kind. We asked for our waitress's opinion on everything and she was very sweet answering all the questions. My brother also has a really bad seafood allergy so we just asked for extra care and there was no grumbling or discomfort when we asked which was really nice. We also got bubble tea which... was just alright. I got the Thai iced tea and my brother's gf got the cappuccino one. I liked how they were served though. The mason jar for these made them look really cute. Needless to say, they don't need to be liked for their bubble tea cause their ramen is just so good! Love Kaliubon! This was one of the first restaurants recommended to me when I first moved to the Hartford area. I've come at least 5 different times in a 2 month span and LOVE everything I've eaten thus far. Of their regular menu ramen, here is my list of must orders: -Tonkotsu Ramen: great bowl of ramen for any day. You can never go wrong with Tonkotsu at any ramen shop, and Kaliubon delivers here. Great, flavorful, umami broth filled with perfectly chewy noodles and topped with a slightly charred flavored chashu. Good, solid bowl and one of my top picks. -Tan Tan Mazemen: If you like Szchuan dan dan noodles, you'll enjoy this. Any time I've had dan dan noodles, they've always been different from another place, and Kaliubon is no exception. This version is a great stir-fry style that coats the noodles in a thick, rick sauce and topped with great textures from the egg, cucumbers, and ground pork. This is my go-to option when I don't feel super hungry and plan to take leftovers home since there is no broth to ruin the noodles. -Curry Ramen: The curry ramen is the perfect representation of Japanese ramen. Don't go in expecting Thai or Indian flavors. Kaliubon got those Japanese ramen flavors DOWN. A thick but soupy bowl, the soup is able to coat your noodles as you slurp them down giving the big curry flavor in each bite. Grab a side of rice! As you finish the noodles and have leftover soup, rice will give you the perfect portion to finish off the soup and does great at absorbing the flavors! -Beef Ramen: If you've ever had a bowl of traditional Chinese/Taiwanese beef noodle soup, then you're in for a treat here. On a chilly afternoon I was seeking something warm. I decided to try this place and was far from disappointed! Staff greeted me immediately even during lunch hours. I got the beef ramen. It has a little kick to it but it was just enough to warm me without being annoying. My ramen was a special that came with an appetizer for around $20. there were a few to choose from but I got the cucumber salad. It was pretty good. But the ramen was very good. I did have them remove the egg and next time I may also remove the cilantro but I plan to come back to try more very soon. read more
