Typical Asian supermarket located right off of route one in Edison. They sell mostly Asian products and produce with a hot food section in the front. The store itself is mostly outdated but if your just there to buy groceries then it does the job. Just be careful and read the label because some items are expired. They don't have a lot of volume so items tend to stay on the shelf longer. I go here lately for the bakery and hot food selections. For groceries I tend to go to the other markets in the area. Like HK Supermarket, I haven't frequented Kam Man in a long time. It's also undergone some cosmetic renovations. It's pretty much the same supermarket with a minor facelift and new items I've never seen before sold here. That day, I didn't have any major purchases but it was cool noting many new things being sold. I took some pictures for yelp. I used to think that this was a ratty old Chinese supermarket, and that it was sure to close down with 99 Ranch Market on the scene. It's definitely nicer than before, but the Asian supermarkets are all similar in inventory, so it's interesting to see if Kam Man can keep afloat. read more

When it comes to bottled sauces and soy sauce, I prefer to go to Kam Man than 99 Ranch. It's a smaller market so it is easy to find what you want without 20 different brands confusing you. Mushrooms are also much cheaper than 99 Ranch although fruit seems to be more expensive and not as fresh. I never get the hot foods but I am happy that Kam Man has refrigerated tea eggs and some pre-made snacks. Their homemade shrimp rice chips are also THE BEST. They beat any snack brand that makes shrimp chips. Some things are better at 99 Ranch and some things are better at Kam Man. You just need to see what you like at which stores. read more

You should not expect much from the Food Court in the Supermarket. Honestly, if you want to experience a full course meal with great service, and great ambiance, you should definitely go to a restaurant. Ever since one of my family members showed me a pic she took while on her shopping spree at KMAN, I haven't been there since then! It's been more than 4 months now. Here is why. Per my previous review, I mentioned that KMAN does not do well in the sanitary department.. I WAS DAMN RIGHT! That pic I just mentioned.. well, it was a pic of 4 pigs on top of the shopping carts. Like most Asian supermarkets it's freezing in here. There is a ton of prepared foods in this place and that's really where it shines. You can get all sorts of buns and dumplings with different fillings, soup bowls the size of your head and probably 20+ different hot food items. Plus there is a bakery. One item in particular stood out. When you walk in the door to your right in the bakery they have some Bahn Mi's. The sandwiches are $4.25 but they only sell one type. It's what I'm assuming is the most classic version...Authentic Vietnamese cold cuts with of course the pickled veg. I've grabbed produce here before, but it's not as fresh as H MART. I would like to eat here more often, but while the prices are in English none of the food descriptions are. Weird. read more

I'm a big of Asian super markets especially this one. This place may be a bit smaller than the few others in the area, but makes up for it in product quality and good prices. I love the energy and fresh feel and smell at any market. The variety of food & produce mixed with novelty items is always invigorating for me. A traditional Chinese spice room. Sits close to the entrance, although they didn't have bear gallbladder, lol. A small bakery & Pho stand next to the prepared take entry's. Have them grab a hanging duck and slice it up for dinner in front of you. Oh course a fresh fish stand with eels, snails and all your favorite shellfish and sea delights. Plenty of produce so you can stock up on bok choy, lol. Now of course there's normal isles of canned and prepared grocery items. I ususlly stock up on mixed spicy asian cup of noodle soup types.Tea choice and Asian apparel like tea pots, plates & sake sets. All typesof sauces both Asian & American. Tons of rice options including an area where to scoop it out fresh. English is definitely a second language here so you may have to practice pointing or sign language if you desire something specific that's eluding you. I feel bad that I go to the Korean grocery store instead of the Chinese, but Kam Man is not as clean, is cramped, and just doesn't feel as nice as H Mart. If Kam Man made just a few adjustments like clean up, renovate, and make some more space or something, they'd do so much better. I guess they do get business from elderly Chinese. read more

Before the Covid-19, I always go in and shop in Kam Man. The food is always fresh. Today is my first time placed orders to be picked up. The orders were filled in 1/2, the service is very efficient, they will put the groceries in the back of your truck to avoid contact. After I got home and clean up the groceires, I find that they did an excellent job in filling all of my orders. (no missing item at all), the food is just as always, very fresh. Kam Man is in a big building at the intersection of US-1 and Old Post Road, and is accessible from either road, although probably for reason of habit, I prefer the truck entrance on Old Post Road. I've been visiting this Asian grocer now and then for the past decade or so. There are other Asian grocers within my range of travel but this one is near the top in terms of selection of goods. They have many aisles of dry goods from most East Asian countries, plus a large selection of refrigerated foods. The dim sum and bakery section is also rather good. read more

I don't understand how there are 3 star or even less reviews, Kam Man food is your basic asian grocer. This place matches any place in flushing or 8ave in terms of being a hong kong supermarket like clone. Also they have a frigging kick ass bakery. I have no idea where else you're gonna find a cha siu bao, which is almost as good as chinatowns Hop Shing, which in my opinion is the golden standard for a char siu bao, since i basically ate 1 Hop Shing char siu bao a day for years, kam man is just as good. (just not as sweet and the char siu could be a bit better) BUT out here in northern jersey? nothing compares. And that's the bakery, they got stacks of great rice, stacks of instant noodles, and the good kind too, Nissan imported, not domestic. I mean you COULD goto Hmart and get ripped off, i have NO IDEA why anyone would goto Hmart to get ripped off, unless you love being parted with your money. There is nothing in Hmart that is priced fairly, there is nothing in Hmart that is cheaper than anything. Okay, it is officially confirmed that this supermarket has the best prepared foods sections in the area. It's miles better than Good Fortune or Asia Spermarket (Maidong). I was able to get bbq squid, smoked and sauced whole duck wings, broiled and marinated tilapia, cuttlefish, five spice beef, pork shoulder, pork belly with preserved vegetables, sweet and sour pork chops, seafood and tofu medley, five spice tofu with shredded pork, stir-fried bamboo shoots with shredded pork, stir-fried kidneys, lamb with cumin, pork and vegetable buns, duck, spareribs, and bbq pork - all in one fell swoop. I am not cooking for the next week. Plus, all dishes are around $6-7. The staff here are great and have been here for well over a decade, so I never leave without being greeted by smiles and "How is your family?" Give it a try if you don't eel like cooking but want homemade-tasting food. read more

This Asian grocery mart is the closest to where I live, but I'm having mixed reviews after visiting almost every week. I'll try to break things down by sections. Cooked food: like their scallion chicken and shanghai buns (both the pork + vegetables as well as the chives version). Even though the selection is big, I feel that it's average at best, and overpriced. For reference, their 3 dishes + 1 soup combination is a popular option for family dinners. Bakery: home made unsweetened soy milk and soy pudding are awesome. The other bakery items did not get me too excited. They serve bubble tea at the bakery counter. I like the chocolate milk tea, they use a type of chocolate power from south east asia - milo, which is different from regular chocolate power. It's malted cocoa, it's delicious. For reference milo is also sold separately in the store. Selection of snacks, condiments, dried goods, frozen foods etc are plenty. There should be no problem getting what you want. There are also different types of meat, including a counter where you get to pick the cut of pork and the quantity you like. Seafood couldn't get any more fresh when they have it live. Although I couldn't say the same for their fresh produce. There are times I had difficulties picking out decent produce such as potatoes and ginger. Once I got some purple yams only to realize they were bad after slicing them at home. All in all this is an ok basic Asian grocery store that would satisfy your needs and cravings. Great place for economy rice (as Malaysians would call it). The food is alright though, but the choices are unlimited. Also there is a bread shop there and a bubble tea place, on top of a roasted foods store and a Taiwanese foods store. It's like a mini hawker center/food court. Personally, the only reason I keep going back is because, it's fast, economic and close to work during lunch. The food is a-ok. The market is kinda sketchy at times, some of the isles look like there was once a dead man lying in it. I am what you a call a marketer's dream. My ability to control my impulse buy is slim especially when it comes to food. At Kam Man Food Inc., the moment I walk in, the fresh buns and bakery goods call to me. Bun stuffed with red bean paste, bun with cream fill, curry bun, roast pork bun, sesame balls, taro bun, and pineapple bun they all call to me, "eat me ... eat me ... we are full of deliciousness." And yes they are. I can't control myself I usually buy each flavor, and then regret eating buns for a whole week. The authentic Chinese food section is ok. Most of the stuff is greasy and salty, so I don't usually eat there. I love roast duck, roast pig, and roast pork. It's not appetizing seeing it hang on the window. But if you can look past it, it's so yummy and tasty. The grocery store is okay. The vegetables aren't too fresh and it does smell somewhat there. But if there are oriental ingredients you need and can't find it at your typical super market then for last resort go here. I only go for the hot prepared foods. Normally I pick up a lunch box. Service is meh and both the workers and the customers there are pretty rude. This one lady (customer) pretended like she was checking out the food then jumped ahead of me to order. The worker just pretended like she didn't know what was going on. I had to put the B on blast in Chinese. SAY WHAT! The prices go higher, containers get smaller, the rice portions get bigger and the actual entrees are smaller and not any better. There are 2 other Asian grocery in the area, Hong Kong Supermarket and Great Wall. Great Wall is my favorite. It's cheapest, biggest and cleanest. But Kam Man is closest to Jersey City. Plus, I love their bakery. They bake bread fresh daily, and have them out in the late afternoon. Their selection is pretty standard and complete. They also have Little Taipei, which is a Taiwanese take out plate. Next time maybe I'll give it a try. read more

They used to carry good stuffs such as Taiwan radish cake/rice cake with pork,Taiwan meatball. However, my visit on Sunday, I can't find them and the price goes up and up. If they can't improve their quality and don't carry rice cake pork or meatball, I think i will move to another Asian supermarket. read more

Just your typical asian market with all the asian flare lol. They have a bakery and also sell prepared food, such as ducks and chicken. Its not a place I visit often for I dont live near there. But when I have a road trip up in New Jersey I try to stop by. This place has been remodeled since my last visit. Its actually cleaner than before. The cookies from the bakery is very good. I've never gotten the duck or chicken that they have hanging up. Smells good but who knows...... The fruits and veggies are still not as fresh as other places, they seem old and spoiled. I don't know about the seafood isle for they seem to alway be cleaning up when i get there. If your driving by it stop in and take a look, if not find a different market. Happy Eatings!! read more

Bigger than Hong Kong market, smaller than H-Mart. Right when you walk in, you're by the bakery, and boy is that smart marketing. I can't tell you the number of times me and my mom stopped to look at red bean buns, cakes, sandwiches, scallion or hot dog buns. Delicious! They also sell hot foods around there (hanging animals right in front of you!) , but the line is further in, and around a slight corner. Have the basics in the aisles (canned, dry goods, etc) if you are doing small scale shopping. Produce section is decent -- we always stocked up on Fuji apples. Fish section is large and pretty fresh. Parking lot is big, but not exactly open space, so you can be waiting for people at weird angles. read more

I have been coming up here from time to time since I was in high school, as my Chinese friend's parents used to come up for prepared foods and items for parties. The Asian Food Center in Plainsboro didn't exist back then. I hadn't been in quite a while. We stopped in on a whim and my impression was that the interior of the store had been slightly remodeled. If not mistaken the fish area and vegetable area looked better than it used to. This place has a pretty decent variety of ingredients, though not as much Japanese stuff as Asian Food Center in Plainsboro or H-Mart in Edison on Rt. 27. What I WAS impressed with, actually, was the quality of the prepared foods. On a whim we picked up a half a crispy duck and 8 pan fried pork buns (sheng jian bao) and I found the buns to be absolutely juicy and full of flavor. I now have major cravings for sheng jian bao and keep dreaming about them. The duck as well, was pretty good and, I thought reasonably priced at $10 for half a duck and $6.50 for 8 buns! Anyway, next time I'm in the area I would definitely stop in and try some of the other prepared dishes, and the roasted pork as well. read more

It's an Asian Food mecca - a really large place than the ones I have see off Rt. 10. As expected, you'll spot many Asians shopping here. Parking lot is large too. I put this food market on par to the chains in Flushing, Queens but at least you get a parking spot free. I do see flys buzzing around which sceeves me as they land on vegetables and fish. The bakery looks enticing and we like to buy canned exotic goods but look out for the expiration dates. I found a can of fruit lying since last year .... not good.
