In the busy week after the storm, I was fortunate that Ian could squeeze me into his schedule. He responded to my call a few years ago and I remembered that he was helpful. This time we had a new ceiling fan with a bracket that didn't fit the old junction box. Over the phone, Ian warned me that a new junction box may require a ceiling repair after the installation. Luckily, Ian decided to modify the bracket to fit the old junction box and easily installed the new fan. I'm not certain other electricians would have gone through that trouble. Found Ian and Kama'aina Electric via Yelp after messaging and calling a handful of the best reviewed electricians. Ian was available soonest and had the most competitive pricing. He was upfront that pricing might change depending on the complexity of the situation once he evaluated in-person, which I totally get. We hired Kama'aina Electric to replace 5 lights we ordered from Wayfair (dining room chandelier, entry way and bedroom ceiling lights). Ian and Kawika were friendly towards my family, including my ultra curious toddler son who could have been an annoyance getting in their way, but they were super nice about it. As they removed the existing lights, Ian was very communicative about pointing out some possible risks with the way the old light was installed and let us decide how to proceed forward. They kept us in the loop throughout the process, confirming light placement and position. Unfortunately, some of the old lights were installed in a way that hid some major issues, so we were not able to get the full project done, but as an experienced homeowner, I know it's no one's fault, since you never know what the situation is until you open up the ceiling and walls. I appreciated that Ian kept me informed the whole way through. Ian and Kawika are pros. I like that they answered on the first call. I got an appointment the same day, and they showed up on time, texted before arrival, and texted if they'd be early or late. The estimate I got was what I paid. They worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves. The work they did was excellent. I had three ceiling light fixtures repaired. One was a replacement. One was a fluorescent light where the ballast was bad. Ian removed the ballast and converted it to LED. Much better! Lastly, they replaced a 60 year-old recessed light with an LED fixture. He texted a reminder the day before and called that morning to ask if I was flexible for him to come earlier. Usually you end up sitting around wondering if they will show up or not. He arrived, with mask, and set to work. He was also very patient and clear in communicating what he found, how he was going to fix it, and answer all our questions. We would recommend him and use him again! I needed an electrician to install a 110V outlet in my washer/dryer closet for the replacement LG washer and dryer I just purchased (compact space with failing Bosch Axxis units that run on 220V; the only manufacturer that still runs all units on EU voltage). Ian and Kawika did an awesome job in very little time . Because we had a quality electrical contractor on-site , we asked them to upgrade our exterior lighting which has been a 'pain in the butt' and very scary for so many years. They fixed all and had to deal with messed up conduit and wiring sunk into concrete and major rock formations. I am writing another review for them. Is that allowed? They fixed my first problem with a simple light switch and they came back to fix my major issue of changing out my super old electric panel. First off, they were super understanding about last minute rescheduling because of the storm causing elevator issues in my building. Second, the work they did. I asked them to also change out an outlet in the bathroom and check the kitchen ceiling led light. Ian provided an awesome suggestion for the bathroom to make it less crowded by combining the light switch and outlet into one combo unit which is saving wall space in my tiny bathroom. Came out looking way better. After they replaced the panel, they just put the kitchen light back together and it worked so he didn't try to charge me extra for the kitchen light. We stayed only for about 1 hour out of the 5-6 hours of work so they easily could've said they had to do plenty stuff to make it work but he said they reassembled it and it worked without them doing anything. They're honest when it comes to advice, pricing, everything. Trust means everything to me and I feel so good about them.
