I have to agree that Kamal Spices goes the extra mile to have clean cut Indian vegetables. Ok may be one more thing - they have nice Gujarati freshly cooked food. Chapatis and Parathas are descent. But the price !!! Within ten steps, the adjacent grocery store is selling every item at half or less than half the price. I have gone a few times to Kamal in last. 2-3 years and every time I have come out shaking my head, shocked with the bill and promising myself not to go anymore. My trips to this store is becoming more infrequent as I have now mentally braced myself for the long on line shopping experience (where people continue to shop while putting a cart on the line) and parking hazard on Sunday afternoons in the adjacent store. My attraction for the most expensive Indian grocery store in Pleasanton Dublin area IMHO) is fading. read more

This store is small and packed with almost everything a quintessential Indian Grocery Store would have. Many items aren't marked. Prices seem to differ after ringing them up on the price-check machine. Not enough space in the isles to move about. Gets pretty cramped, especially in the evenings. Pros: -freshly cut Vegetables available in sealed bags. -fresh rotis available -fresh produce, specially the leafy greens are of good quality and look very fresh. -located in a shopping center so ample parking available. -friendly owners. Always willing to help or answer a quick question. Cons -if you're looking for Organic produce, this is not your store. - double check prices on the price tags. -small store so gets difficult to move around -many a times, when I'm ready to check out there's no helper at the check out desk. Place has a much better selection of fresh produce than you'd expect considering the size. The people at the front are super helpful and do their best to help you find what you're looking for. The spices selection is also super great. They also have some pakora and dosas at the front of you want a snack. On the other side it is quite a bit cramped. Prices are not marked anywhere and the cashier will charge the prices AS THEY WISH. For example I bought a rice flour and when cashier scanned it came out as 3.99 but immediately he changed to 5.99. MOST ITEMS do NOT have prices marked and they just charge almost double than other nearby stores. We just went here for checking out and getting some essentials items. We were ripped off for double price on almost all items. Just ridiculous. Not going there anytime soon. Not recommended. It's a mom and pop grocery stores that has been around forever. I have often asked the owners if they fear competition from all the big name Indian grocers mushrooming in the area and they have always remained confident that they will have clientele. They are so damn right. They have literally everything Indian packed in to the small space and the owners will go out of the way to find you things if they don't have it. While the store is nice, packed and maintained well. They have their own brand foods, which appeared fresh. Vegetables are clean. There is no bar to prices they charge. For $40 worth of groceries, I paid $88. They charge insane, not sure why the prices are 3 times more. For a $4 Maggie , he charged $8. $2 masala,$5. The prices are insane. They have a set of clientele who visit the store, They should reconsider. I understand to keep up with increase in cost , local store charges a bit more, if they are 20-30% higher. I paid a whopping-135$s ,buying some veggies and stuffs ,thinking -it must be fresh as they always claim.. Half way through a crunchie candy bar,I felt weird and stinky to find the best before date to be 8/11/2018!! So i consume a chocolate 2 years after its manufacturing date,on a pandemic year...;still not dead..waiting for the most atrocious thing to happen...! Unreasonable prices. They charged $4 more for coffee powder, $3 for noodles and $2 for bhel puri mix compared to other Indian stores. When I reported it, they refunded my money but there was no justification for the higher prices for traditional brands. My bill was at least 15% higher than other Indian stores. Do not swindle customers, not cool. read more

Would definitely give a 5 star . I am surprised why this store does not have enough rating . The vegetables here are always fresh mainly the green leafy ones . They might be a bit expensive when compared with the other Indian grocery stores around but you can see the difference in quality . The owner and his wife are both very friendly and always check in on us if we need something The store also has home made chapathi and Tepla which tastes nice . Pre-cut veggies and warm chappatis. Order ahead to reserve your chappatis. What I like about Kamal Spices: Service with a smile. Sure, they are an indian grocery and have the usual stuff but he never forgets to say a Howdy. Same goes for the Missus. Been shopping here for the past 5 years and never had a problem with either the quality of the groceries or prices. They even offer to help load the bags in the car. What could use an improvement: I wish they offered more Gujrati food to-go. The samosas/ kachoris need some work. I guess it is not the highlight of the store :-) read more

A Husband & wife team have been running this store for almost 20 years. 20 years back there were hardly 2 or 3 Indian stores in the tai-valley area. Now each strip mall in Pleasanton has at least 2 ! The reason they are still surviving and thriving is because of 2 things a) Excellent selection of fresh Indian vegetables - Whlle other large Indian grocery chain stores may be slightly cheaper, the produce at Kamal is always fresher. The store in general is always almost impecabbly clean. A keen eye for quality control, on the owners part, I would say. b) Customer service - They know most long term customers by name. They know their ethnicities and are caring enough to cater to special needs that these communities may have for their local festivals. For example, they make sure to carry Dias, for Diwali, banana leaves for Onam etc. Another example : Some time back, I bought and paid for a sack of rice, but forgot to pick it up from the shopping cart. Next day I remembered my faux pas, and called the store. They immediately offered me a free sack of rice since they remembered me buying it the day before. Such customer service is seldom seen from Indian stores. read more

Most items don't have a price on them , makes you wonder if they are changing them all the time . Most grocery stores have either price stickers or tags on shelves these are far and few at kamal I have it 2 stars because they have some fresh made items and precut veggies and clean but your gonna pay for them at a lot higher price read more

Awesome neat and clean Indian store in the Dublin/Pleasanton area. The owner is so friendly and helpful and they always go out of their way to help us - as we're new to the area. The best part about Kamal Spices also is that the store is kept in such good condition. Their fruits and vegetable area is pristine. They package much of their stuff so it's easy to carry out as well. They do carry fresh food such as samosas which are perfect to pick up for parties. Yeah, I look lost when I come into Indian grocery/markets. So it's nice to get a "can I help you find something". The answer for me is "yes!!! Always!". Sometimes I don't even know what I need so I let them know what I am trying to cook and I get pointed in the right direction or given suggestions. I have been to many Indian markets in the Tri-Valley area and this is the only place that has that level of customer service. The store is small but always has what is on my recipe list and is very well organized. Also, they have chopped veggies which is awesome! Its neat and clean, small though but is well stalked up. Veggies are reasonable priced and fresh the best part is they have a variety of them already pre-cut and packaged nicely. The lady working there(must be the owner) was friendly and was able to take the pressure cooker we bought from here back without any questions asked. I agree with other Yelpers that this place is pricey compared to *New India Bazar - Dublin* BUT you will find things you don't find at NIB. There vegetables are FRESH, CLEAN and LIVELY! They are picky about items they keep in store, really helpful staff and answers for ALL your questions. I think that's the reason why people buy MacBook over PC. The products are well organized and quite fresh. It is quite compact store. The check out Bhavani is very friendly.

Much more expensive than neighbording indian stores. Prices are out the roof. Their cut vegetables are great ! I have requested them not to include methi stems in the cut methi packets but they always do, to bulk up the volume of the product and this results and very bitter methi when cooked. Carts are tiny and I cannot have my baby sit in one of them for the fear of toppling over. Be more competitive price-wise and I might return. read more

One genuine star because the store is neatly organized even though it is tiny. A list of cons here: 1. If a brand of your choice isn't available, they try to make sure you don't go back empty handed - Real smooth talkers here. If you are not Indian, you probably would not understand that the quality of every commodity varies by its brand. 2. Veggies (Cut & Packeted) - Highly over priced for such a tiny packet of any vegetable. Okra (Bhindi) for example; the most ripened ones are hand picked, cut and sealed in packets. This means that more fresh ones are available in whole stocks which brings up their wholesome index for Fresh veggies while people who don't have time to cut vegetables at home are happy because this is the only place where they can find hand cut vegetables. 3. Snacks - Savory, yes! Reasonable? Hell no! 4. I used to spend 40-50$ for a 2 person household every week (excluding milk, bread, eggs) per week. I realized my grocery bill was growing and switched to another store. I recommend, you do too! read more

Have been visiting Kamal Spices on an off. Their veggies are fresh and have never found any stale veggies here. Price is a bit higher than the bigger Indian Groceries around but, considering that it is a mom and pop store, it is understandable. I would be looking forward to visit here more thanks to the boycott of the other grocery in the same complex price gouging during Mar 2020 during the Corona pandemic. read more

Prices are slightly higher than other Indian grocery stores but you will not find cut & well packed vegetables anywhere. (good for working people) They sell/rent pirated bollywood / Indian movies. I was reminded as to why I rarely went to this store. I stopped there a few days ago, for the first time in years. Primarily because I had just finished at Trader Joe's next door. Note to self: Avoid this cubbyhole like the plague. Even if you have stopped to shop at Trader Joe's next door. I was the only customer in the store.They did not have what I was looking for and so I drove to New India Bazaar on Dublin blvd. Which had many customers. There is a good reason for that. Kamal is a small cramped store with limited inventory. NIB has far more variety and enough aisle space that you do not feel asphyxiated! Oh and most importantly some of their pricing may legally qualify as extortion. Many items do not have prices on them and Kamal gets away with it perhaps because some customers do not pay attention to the cash register display while they are being billed. Or should that be bilked??? The owner had an unsavoury habit of trying to push unsuspecting customers into buying things without telling the price - you need to pay close attention to the display while being rung up or pore over the receipt. On a rare visit years ago, the lady standing in front of me gasped in sticker shock as he surreptitiously tried to fob an overpriced item on her. Luckily she came around before the ambulance got there. OK, you get the idea :-) I think there are 3 reasons he is still in business: Location, location, location. Next to 580 and TJ. Same item else where would be 60% cheaper - no price tags for many items. you get a shocker during checkout - very clever staff, as they sweet talk during checkout - you dont know what is being billed till you get out of the store - we see some items that are mis-labeled. if you are buing 20-30 items, they insert wring lables like 'cut okra'. I had to go back, and cehck what this is, they have tagged some other item i bought - big rip off is "tindora". The lady says one price & the man says another . All this happened in the same day. 4) very sweet talking lady, you will come back with more things than what you need. I have been going to this store for about 2 years. Recently I moved out of Pleasanton and still make a visit whenever I can. The quality, freshness and selection is outstanding. Yes it is is a small store but still able to bring in everything one would need for indian groceries. I have never seen a spoilt vegetable which is a common site at most grocery stores. It is run by a family (husband and wife) and in these times (corona) I wanted to really give kudos to them for still being able to run the store with a wow effect to the customers. Unfortunately, I was lazy yesterday and decided to go to Kamal Spices after my trip to Trader Joes. First of all, this store is TINY and nothing has a price on it.
