Kamaole Sands was such a perfect stay for our Maui trip. We were a party of seven with the age ranges from the grandkids in their twenties to one grandma. The location is right across the street from a beach and a ten minute walk from some convenience stores. If you have a car, parking is included and very convenient, we were able to get a spot right near the elevators everyday! There was some construction going on while we were there but it didn't affect us in any way and we have no noise complaints, but we were out most of the day. Honestly, I'd recommend setting aside a full day--or two!--to just enjoy the resort itself. Don't be in a rush to go out and explore every single day. The condos are very spacious, and we loved having a full kitchen - don't forget to take advantage of that too! Dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, and a loft? You come to Maui to enjoy Maui but your room makes it so easy and comfy to go back to and want to stay all day. I also got to enjoy the pool, spa, and gym while I was there. Although, I do wish the gym was bigger, it was able to accommodate everything I needed for the perfect vacation workout. I suggest getting in there before 7am. My SIL and I always went in around 6 - 6:30am and there was no one there, but once 7:00 hits, people started trickling in. It is important to note this place is not just a vacation spot but there are residents so you'll be sharing the pool area with locals as well. Personally, I feel the pool should be bigger or there should be more with the size of the property, but it fit what we needed for the time being. read more

My husband and I have a condo here that we share with a friend on and off throughout the year. We do let friends use the condo, but we do not rent it for Air B & B or VRBO. Some of the guests treat it as a hotel and dont follow the rules. Others dont clean up after their messes. Overall it is a wonderful place to live and stay if you can deal with the tourists. Theres fees to cover how dirty places are left and its hard to find good house keepers. The dues in this complex are a lot and having to pay small resort fees so that you are not in a hotel and can live more confortably are worth it. The staff are all friendly and the grounds are clean. Its across the street from the beach and has a pool, gym and hot tub. read more

We paid over $350 in just fees for an apartment that was outdated, dark, noisy, but well-located. This company is ripping off customers and leaving a bad taste in such a beautiful island and community. Poor lady at the front desk was frustrated by customers complaining and could not do anything. I booked this place because it was the only 2 bedroom 2 bathrooms place within my price range (which to be honest, wasn't even on the low end). The photos looked fine (of course they did). The grounds is beautiful but the pool and jacuzzi are not big enough considering the number of units it serves. The unit we stayed in really needs to be updated. The screen door to the lanai had tears (so did the screens to the windows of both bedrooms), both bathtubs had damage, the kitchen ventilation (over the stove) was so old the buttons weren't even working. Upon walking in the unit was clean to the naked eye. But a few days later my husband killed roaches in the bathroom. We put away all foods, take out the trash daily, wipe down surfaces, etc. so as to avoid unwanted pests (we didn't see any in the kitchen but there could have been some so who knows). He didn't tell us until we left because he didn't want me and the kids to freak out. The bedsheets were ok (as in they were clean with no stains nor holes), but the blankets were very old. They are thin and not something you want to lay on after a long day. The location is convenient but for the price you are better off staying elsewhere. read more

The units are privately owned, and do vary. Some are run down, and some are beautiful. So, we booked #6-204 for three weeks this past February through the Castle management website, where you can pick your actual unit from photos. Rental rates do vary widely, depending on the unit and season. We paid about $340 a night, inc. all the fees and the 10% Hawaii hotel tax (high season). The standard cleaning fee did include a thorough maid visit once mid-way through our stay. With a full-size washer and dryer in the apartment, vacuum cleaner, etc., it was easy to keep the place tidy as we would at home. The AC, in both the bedroom and living room, worked fine, but we did not use it since the place has a floor-through design with screened windows on both ends, ceiling fans in every room, and Kihea is generally pretty breezy. We had a king-sized bed with plenty of extra pillows, two full baths with lots of towels, cable HDTV's in the bedroom and the living room, room safe, a spacious, partial-ocean view lanai with a table and four chairs, plus beach chairs, beach umbrella, foam cooler with ice packs, and beach towels, all of which we left in the car as we traveled around the island. The kitchen was adequate, with a full-sized fridge with icemaker, dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, bar blender, rice cooker, etc. The tableware and flatware is basic, so you should bring your own personal kitchen knives if you plan to do any serious food prep. The gardens are beautiful, and the grounds immaculate. We had a big mango tree right outside our door. The heated swimming pool was never crowded, nor were the two jacuzzi spas. There's a well-equipped, air-conditioned workout room, snack bar, vending machines, and full-time concierge. Our assigned parking space was just a few steps from the building. The other guests were considerate during quiet time (10PM-8AM). We slept with our bedroom windows open every night and were never disturbed. We have stayed in a number of different condos on Maui over the years, but we return to the Kamole Sands. read more

Pretty lovely resort along the strip of a lot of other resorts along this town. What's nice is that it's overlooking the ocean and palm trees. Came here early this January for a lovely vacation. The room was very spacious. The furnishings were great, had a balcony and had a great view of the outdoors and the street view. Pretty much within the heart and drivable to major spots. We used the pool area and the outdoor barbecue area. Very lovely garden, the space is very big, the parking can get confusing, they really should have bigger signs, as there was some construction going on. The gym is mediocre, there should be more wipes and a working water machine. The facilities are nice and the rooms are great equipped with washer and drier and washing machine. read more

We stayed here for a week. Our condo 5212, don't stay in this unit. The bathroom is old and rusted, the fan in the bedroom does not work, air conditioning unit is loud, ice maker dripping so all the ice stuck to the tray and lastly, toaster only toasted one side. With all that said, the staffs are wonderful. They tried to address all the issues immediately. A shout out to Millie at the front desk. She went above and beyond to solved the issues. We stayed at this condo building 8 unit 204. The unit had decent enough living room furniture, patio furniture. It's a one bedroom unit with 2 bathrooms it's suppose to sleep 4 people not sure where though. There is no sleeper sofa in the living room. The bed was too soft for me. The bathroom counters and kitchen were redone in granite, but it seriously needs more remodeling. It was nice to have a washer and dryer even though it was too dated. The AC unit was old really loud and rattled but it worked. We were delighted because of the high humidity. The overhead fan itself was insufficient to keep us cool at night. The dishes, cooking utensils, glasses were of cheap quality, well I guess because it's a rental. There was a keurig coffee maker, but the filter had some small holes in it so I put some tissue in the bottom before adding the coffee grinds. It didn't give the option of no stars. I was mortified with us place . We stayed one night only because we got in late and was too late to go anywhere else . We didn't unpack or even change clothes . The dirt , mold in shower , trash under the foldout which they considered out 2nd queen bed . The mattress was thin and worn , dirty and full of hair . The sheet was too small and didn't cover . Drapes had stains that resembled a murder scene . Bugs crawling in the coffee maker . Our parking space had an old broken down flat tire car sitting in it . Had to park elsewhere and walk . It was out worst nightmare . You must cross a busy street and large park filled with homeless , drunk, drug addicts hanging around . The beach was only rock . We immediately left the following morning and had to fight with Costco travel but eventually got a refund . We drove to the other side of the island and were lucky to find a beautiful place . Don't stay at this nightmare of a place and don't stay in Keihi . It's dangerous and a slum . read more

For a one bedroom room, this was fantastic. We chose this place for the added amenities of the pool/hot tub, but it wasn't specified on the website that only 4 people are able to be in the hot tub at a time over the two hot tubs. Out of the 110 units that can have at least 4 people comfortably, there can be up to 440 guests. If you're looking for a place to unwind at the end of the day, this isn't the place for you as your aren't guaranteed a spot to unwind. I would like to add, that each party of 2 is able to stay in the hot tub for up to 2 hours. Shower had hair and smears up top, so it wasn't cleaned from the people before. This place was absolutely perfect for our needs. Me and one of my best friend's stayed here for a week and felt right at home. We had a huge one bedroom, two bath condo overlooking the pool and a partial ocean and mountain view. The condo was fully loaded with furnishings, great island decor and appliances like home including a washer and dryer. There were many added perks as well out on the lanai (patio) such as boogie boards, beach chairs, beach umbrellas and coolers for our convenience while vacationing. We encountered friendly staff throughout the whole facility and had no issues during our stay. The location is absolutely perfectly placed within minutes of the greatest snorkeling spot on the island, Ahihi Bay. Not to mention the multitude of diverse beaches along the way to the bay. Had a group of 14 staying here for four days and three nights. I stayed in a one bedroom, two bathroom condo. We stayed in building 6 unit 204. I had 3 other people with me, 2 kids and 1 other adult. The adult and I were comfortable in our bed. Cons: Took 45 minutes to check in (only the 1 room) It looks very outdated minus the TV. There was suppose to be a pullout bed for the kids on the couch, when you remove the pillows, there is a sign on the couch saying "pull out bed broken, blow up mattress in bedroom closet". However, the blow-up was comfortable as well. The only A/C unit is in the living room. AFTER they mention the cleaning fee. $109 plus tax in addition to the $35 resort fee. Local friends of ours initially recommended this resort, thinking prices were reasonable, but they will no longer be recommending Kamaole Sands because of HIDDEN FEES. This was our first time staying at a condo that was an AOAO. Too many rules, too many exclusions and the staff wasn't very friendly or welcoming. Having to pay for housekeeping services seemed foreign to me-but that's how it is at this type of establishment. Paying a cleaning fee AFTER my stay didn't make sense. But if you wanted housekeeping services it was additional. Go figure. Our trip to Maui was otherwise great. read more

We had the fortune to find this well planned, mostly owner occupied, "steps from the beach" property on a vacation rental by owner website. (Message me for details to the awesome unit we stayed in) 2 Bedroom 2 Bath Condo with full kitchen and in unit washer dryer. (Which really helped for all the wash and wear clothing we all love in Maui). Our unit had an updated kitchen, formal dining area, breakfast nook, living room, televisions in each room and 2 full baths. We chose ground level because of safety paranoia for our little kiddo. But it was actually very nice to have a back door to walk in from after shaking all the sand and rinsing off at the convenient showers located at each gate/entrance. You'll need to, as the beach is across the street There's also an open park.picnic/field area directly across the street from the Kamaole Entrance. The pool area is gated and open late. They also have a kiddo pool in addition to the Olympic size pool and hot tub. There is a gym adjacent to the pool as well. Our unit was conveniently located next to the community lava rock and bbq grills. Which is a major bonus if you've gone on a deep sea fishing excursion or visited Eskimo Candy for a fresh catch. This complex was very convenient or walking distance to many popular restaurants, shops and docks for some sea excursions. Must Do when staying at Kamaole - Catch the sunset. Being on the 1st level, we would just walk out the back door, across the street and take 20 minutes out of the day just to watch the glorious sun set. :) It's spectacular! The facility is very well maintained and well patrolled as well. It's nice to know the grounds are patrolled for safety as well as your belongings in your vehicle. Overall I say 4 stars, but it totally depends on your unit as each is individually owned. The property on it's own I'd say is 3 star quality. So I'm writing a review on each. "Behr's Retreat" Condo: 1-204 This is a great one bedroom unit near the front of the resort. It can sleep 2-4 people. It really felt like home away from home. It's clean, recently redecorated. It has one bedroom and a sleep sofa in the living room. It has two full baths, one is just a shower. It was stocked with towels, kitchen items (not food), filtered water, beach chairs, noodles, boogie boards. It has high speed internet, two tvs, a reserved parking space, and a living room a/c unit. It was just what we needed and loved it so much we'll probably stay there during our next visit. It's across the street from Kamaole Beach III and within walking distance of some great restaurants and shops. The property is beautiful and very well kept. The staff was mostly friendly, we came across some grumpy ones. It has a nice size pool and two Jacuzzis if they are both working. We wished that there was a bar at the pool. But you can take in drinks, just no glass. There are also multiple bbq grills and picnic tables on the grounds. They do strictly enforce quiet hours from 10pm-8am. They do patrol and will ask you to keep it down if needed. We learned from some other unit owners that August and Sept are construction/repair months because volume is down. So they were repaving the parking lot and repairing one the adult jacuzzi leaving us with the not even hot kids jacuzzi. This was more annoying than the parking repaving which didn't really affect us much. Overall this is a great place to stay for families and couples. It's not for luxury, but it's a good quality for the price. Just remember to check reviews on the specific unit you rent because some are in better condition than others. read more

We really liked this place! It was a huge condo with 1 bedroom and 2 bathrooms. It's weird but it worked out for us because eash of us had a own bathroom and own space for us to relax! The staff are very very relaxed. Get ready to ask for things up to 5 times and wait up to 2 hours, for say, blankets? But the place is clean, there's a nice auntie at the lobby helping you plan your trip. Maui is cool, but if you haven't been there yet, you don't have to rush to get there. It's okay. It's a sleepy sleepy island with alot of fat tourists laying half naked! kinda place. Wailea beach, which is only 10 min drive from Kihei, is stunningly gourgeous! The water is warm already at 7am and you can stay there the whole day. Clear water, beautiful view, you should enjoy as much as you can until the weather starts to get cloudy in the afternoon. "Drive to Hana" is supposed to be one of the must-do thing there, and I highly highly recommend it, NOT! You will encounter 7 hours of misery driving. When you just left LA, why do I want to drive for that long in snaky mountain road just to see middle of nowhere? read more

(I concede, good point). I appreciated that gesture a LOT, and have upgraded my review as a result. ** Although it was nice having a condo to stay in, I had several issue with this place. First, the "fees" are incredibly unreasonable. I pre-booked through Expedia, only to find another nearly $200 tacked onto our bill at the end (seriously, $149 for a "cleaning fee"?). I know that's common at places like this, but I still think it's wrong and it's likely to get my guard up immediately. Second, the staff, like many places in Maui, wasn't rude per se, but treated me and my family like we were obnoxious tourists. I get it, we probably are, but for the amount of money we're paying, don't make it so obvious! Third, and this was my biggest issue, there were RODENTS in our condo. I found TWO in the kitchen. I can handle a LOT of things, but dead mice? NOPE, not okay. Plus, there was no cleaning supplies, so getting them out was pretty awful to say the least. I had a tough time staying in the condo at all after I discovered the first one (which, unfortunately was Night No. 1), and was psyched to check out. That being said, I guess if you didn't have mice in your condo, it's probably not a bad place to stay. I won't be re-booking with them for that reason alone. read more

I really appreciate staying in the condo style hotel because it allowed us to cook our own meals and wash clothes..I mean swim suits (no clothing needed in Maui) as often as you like. 2 Bathrooms YAY! and private balcony...a definite PLUS. Computers in the loby..great! Free local paper...I appreciate the location, because it was close to the airport and Costco. Not to far from Wilea. I happened to come across Kamaole Sands via my Aunts recommendation. A friend of her owns a few units, so, I decided on the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom unit. We arrived at Kamaole and were very pleased with the location -right across the street from beautiful beaches AND within walking distance of numerous restaurants etc. The units also have their own private FREE parking spots. Check in was very speedy and we were on our way. We stayed in Building 9 on the 4th floor. Our condo had the great spiral staircase which lead to the master. We had done some shopping before we got to the unit in hopes of taking advantage of the kitchen in the unit. However, upon inspection, there wasn't even the basic salt and pepper that we could use! BIG BUMMER. Last thing I wanted to do is go and buy things like cooking oil, butter, salt etc. and not use them and have to throw them away. I was very suprised and disappointed that not even basic sundries were supplied. The other bummer were the ANTS that were all over in the kitchen and master bathroom...but, these were very SMALL ants, not the kind I am used to seeing. The carpet in the unit could stand to be replaced and the entire unit could use a good deep cleaning. Our unit came complete with washer/dryer AND, a computer with internet access - FOR FREE. Our private lanai had a nice partial view of the ocean which was perfect for watching sunsets, however, we ended up walking across the street to watch the sunset from the beach. The unit was complete with cooking utensils, dishes, glasses, bottle opener, dish towels and even laundry soap. If I had to base my stay on the unit I was in, I would say that I was disappointed. But, based on Kamaole Sands as a whole, it was wonderful and I would for sure stay there again. read more

Great place. The grounds are beautiful. The beach is just steps away. The 2-bedroom unit we rented was huge, bigger than my apartment. It's not the pampered resort experience but it's a great pad for the explorer or family that needs the full kitchen and additional space. The rate was really good. There is a small resort fee and housekeeping comes only once a week. And, to echo another yelper, each unit is independently owned so each will differ a bit. We had a great experience. If this type of property will fill your vacation needs give it a try! read more

These condos SUCK!!! It is very inconvenient that only the living room has the AC unit vs the one and only bedroom in the condo. It is also very annoying that the wifi does not reach to the bedroom. The carpet is old and gross. The drain in the bath tub doesn't work. All the sand that we wash off in the shower just sits at the drain. This place does the job, it provides a roof over your head for your vacation but I would not recommend it. read more

We spent our honeymoon here. Well, it was sort of our honeymoon. We got a great deal on priceline and decided to go last minute. There will be more honeymoon travels in the future. So, we arrived at 2am and the staff was helpful with the check in. We were delighted with the condo. It was a two bathroom, one bedroom condo. It had boogie boards, beach umbrellas, all the dishes you need to cook a lot, a washer and dryer (which we used for our swimsuits everyday) and a cozy living room. The balcony overlooked the pool and the grounds. The beach across the street was very nice and the location of this resort is close to many things. It is an easy drive to the airport and a 30 minute drive to most places on the island. Also, they book great tours. I called like every tour group in the tourist's magazines and had so many prices listed for activities, and they were really a bargain. About $20 cheaper than the lowest prices I could find. The only downfall . . . there were these little tiny ants in the kitchen. I bet this is common all over the island, because no matter how much I cleaned the counters they just reappeared, but for people that are sensitive, we did see them. I may or may not stay here again. I loved it but my sense of adventure and sheer curiousity might lead me elsewhere. read more

Third time here and last time at Kamaole Sands. The nickel and dining of fees is at an all time high. Beware of the cleaning fees. We are in unit 6-405. They somehow forgot to let us know that the unit directly below us was going thru a major renovation so we had drilling and sawing noises all day the whole time. So loud you have to leave to get any rest. Maui Condo and Home tell us they have no responsibility for not telling us ahead of time. Do yourself a favor and avoid this dump. read more

The hotel had a decent rating at a bargain rate. I figured I'd save a few bucks rather than book a more expensive place with the same rating, I got what I paid for I guess. Upon reading others reviews, I stayed in Building 4, room 209. It was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit. I was pleased to have a condo with a living room, full kitchen and a washer/dryer. I liked the location, it was close to shops, restaurants and across the street from the beach. I was not pleased with finding an empty condom wrapper in the night stand drawer, it made me question the cleanliness of the rest of the room. The room decor was outdated and so was the t.v. The airconditioning hardly kept the room cool, it was an old unit that hung outside the window. There's a security screen with a lock but the resort doesn't give you a key and fails to mention not to lock it. It happened to me, I locked the security screen and I was very disappointed to find out the difficulty of having them unlock it. The front desk clerk made me come get the only key for all the resort, I don't know why they didn't have a security do this for me, it was an inconvenience and security risk handing a stranger the key to every security door in the resort. I brought my family but was disappointed to see the kid's pool opened late and closed early (11-5). I understand the beach is across the street but I don't think my three year old daughter is ready to swim in the ocean. Overall my experience did not meet my expectations, I will not be staying here again and will not be recommending this location. read more

Each unit is privately owned, so furnishings depend on your unit, but we didnt need much.and what we did need was there. The pool was amazing!! This is our third time to this property. The first two were great, 4.5 stars both times in a different room. THIS trip is another story. Our unit is so out dated and worn out. The owners must be really cheap or broke. We found lip stick on a "clean" blanket and a broken bathroom mirror held up with duct tape! The cups were dirty with rings on the inside, had to wash all the dishes. We told the office about a potential safety issue with the broken mirror but its still taped to the wall...barely. We got a clean old blanket and a few pillows and a required "sorry about that"from the front office. Could be a litigators dream if someone gets hurt. Unless these guys get us a new room, we sadly will not come back to kamaole sands. STAY AWAY from unit 8-206!! What a friggin dump. My review is on the unit 8-206, housekeeping and customer service. The grounds are nice. UPDATE: they moved us to a different unit and it is 1000% better. I have revised my review from 2 stars to 4 stars thanks to the helpful front office staff. Mostly had a nice stay. I've stayed there a few times, and it's nice enough to make me a repeat customer. The location is great. If you go with the housekeeping service, it's pretty good (a little expensive though). We had an issue with a personal pillowcase being taken, and it was painful trying to get it back - it took 3 days and way too many phone calls. that was annoying. only other issue was the gardeners. omg they are loud, and seem to always be out mowing or blowing something, which kind of kills the peacefulness. if you get a unit with a view, they are great. they let some of the bushes/trees grow up too much, and that can spoil the view. read more

The mini concession stand they have by the pool has very limited hours and if you want to buy anything from the concession make sure you stand in line half and hour before they close or they won't make it for you as "they close at 2". Don't depend on wifi because wifi is really slow. However, my biggest complaint is air conditioning. Certain rooms have different control settings for air conditioning. In my room, air conditioning is poor or either broken. You cant feel the damn air. Im sitting here in maui thinking I would enjoy my vacation. Unfortunately, I wasted my money on this resort. I was unfortunate to get an awful room. While I am sitting here writing this review, I am sweating in my own bed. I had to rearrange the room to catch some cool air. What kind of place is this in order for me to breathe in cool air. Hawaii in general is hot. So this place expects to deal with it!!!! This is outrageous. I don't care how awful or good the review sounds, cause I no longer have empathy for this place. If u slept outside in 80 degrees weather, that's what it feels like when sleeping in the room I am in. The renter of the place set the air conditioning at a certain degree to save money. This is messed up because they expect people to survive this temperature. I am not blaming the renter at all. I blame this resort/ company because this place charges more money to increase or decrease the degrees in air conditioning to the renter. That is sooo stupid and inconsiderate. Keep air conditioning values low and have some freaking empathy and consideration for people living or staying in your resort. Remember, we pay them for a nice experience. WE ARE PAYING YOU!! Have some common decency to have your guest living comfortably for their temporary stay. I will be sleeping in my freezer to night and probably for the rest of the stupid trip. One last thing, even the worker who I called to fix the air conditioning told me to write a review. He also thought this was a stupid set up. read more

Immaculate grounds and pool area. Great condo ( i had the 2 bedroom 2 bathroom top floor one with garden / ocean view ) Located in south kihei you are on the quiter side of Maui. Lots of shopping places around. It's only a small hop to Waimea and La Perouse Bay. There are state of the art barbeque grills throughout the comlex. Ideal if you want to sear that Ahi you just bought at Maalea harbour. read more

This place saved us after checking out of the Aston Maui Banyon up the road (horrible accommodations there BTW). We got a serious upgrade moving here! 4 times the size for the same price & really nice condo! My son & I thoroughly enjoyed the resort & will be back! read more

ok...so this was our first choice place because of an online deal! but honestly it was disgusting! dirty sheets and pillows! nasty, nasty beddings with spiders crawling over the beds! ants all over the kitchen! dusty furniture! ewww....sooo gross! luckily they actually gave us our money back and we moved to another condo!!! sooo gross!!! read more
