Kami was a pop-up when I last visited them, but today, I finally visited their new physical space and...WOW. Simply incredible! It has a unique and fun "small place in a big city" vibe that so few spots in Anchorage have. The ramen was just as tasty as ever. What really impressed me though: the service! The owner recognized me from last time. I had multiple people serving me. Everything was polite, efficient, and FAST. You can easily come in here on a 1-hour lunch break...and maaaaybe even on a 30 min break if you work close enough to them. That is damn impressive for a sit-down restaurant! At here for the first time yesterday and I'm still thinking about the ramen I had. I ordered the Kuramayu ramen and it was so rich! I loved the flavor of the black garlic oil in the creamy broth. The egg was absolutely delicious as well. I only ate half of my bowl yesterday for lunch and I ate the other half today and I felt like the broth was so much better today. I passed Kami right as I was pulling out of the parking lot of Pho Lotus, and thought 'Ooo! Another Ramen place for me to try!' I came back the next day and was very excited to get to try either their Shoyu Chicken Ramen or Vegetable Ramen. The interior of the restaurant is small, but very quaint and cozy. It reminds me of a Hiyao Miyazaki animated film where the characters are sitting around the ramen bar eating steamy bowls of ramen. I wanted to know which of the two, Shoyu or Vegetable ramen was more flavorful, so I asked the waitress which one had more flavor. She pointed out the Shoyu. I ordered that and another very interesting sounding appetizer, Tobiko Mayo Fries. Basically, they took Japanese Mayo and blended it with tobiko fish eggs. It tasted very similar to ketchup, except with a fancy taste. I loved it! The Shoyu had the right balance of chicken and soy sauce flavor and wasn't too salty. It had a delicious half cooked egg that still had the yoke partially uncooked. It gave the dish a brighter flavor. I will definitely be back here. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe. The ramen is reasonably priced for what you get and the appetizers are as well. I'll be trying the Vegetable Ramen next. read more

That is not hyperbole. Kami takes umame to a whole other level. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen. The ingredients we perfectly balanced. The ramen delightfully chewy, the meat perfectly moist and flavorful, the egg so creamy in harmony with the creamy delicate oils of the broth. SIGH... The Tonkotsu was very good but lacked the deeper flavor we have found in our favorite places in both the broth same the pork slices. I would recommend getting an extra order of pork to add for more body and substance. The staff was extra friendly and showed concern for their craft and their customers. We love having this delicious ramen house so close to our neighborhood. It feels like we've stepped into a city restaurant, with the sound of traffic outside, the crowd of the people trying to get in, and the steam rising off the pots in the kitchen. I checked the wait time on Yelp before I went and it stated zero minutes. I waited about 15 minutes for a seat at the bar. Bar seating is first come, first serve. Once a seat opens, you "claim" it and then go to the kiosk to order. (There are about six or so tables, where they take your order table-side.) I ordered the spicy miso ramen and added tofu, which was the perfect addition. Completely recommend it. Yum. I also got the gyoza, and it was delicious. Don't skip that. I also had the white peach green tea. It was sweet and good, but not something I'd get again. The service was terrific (despite the kiosk, which was fine) -- they were all super kind and helpful. The spicy ramen was good (I must admit I'm more of a pho fan). All in all, so glad Kami Ramen is part of Anchorage's culinary options. read more

This is a good restaurant to add to your list for ramen. To start our meal, we tried the deep fried pork belly and it was delicious, very tasty and flavorful. The Katsu chicken curry was a good portion and it had a had a nice crunch to it. The only thing I would improve about that dish is the seasoning, it could use some more. Finally, we had the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and it was a good choice. The spice was nice, but again the seasoning could be better. Kami has been my favorite spot in Anchorage for some time now, and while I haven't been able to go for a few months (stupid medical issues...) they are absolutely worth a trip! I've enjoyed the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, the Kuromayu Ramen, and the Shoyu Ramen, as well as the crispy gyoza, the mochiko chicken, and the pork chasu sandwich. I would recommend all of those, and I hope to make it back soon to try some other dishes. The space is small, so be prepared for a wait. I have been waiting for an opportunity to stop in at Kami Ramen for ramen and today was the day! Since I was working out of state during the last Elite event I felt like I missed out, so first chance I had we went in for lunch. I've had ramen in a couple of places like Boise, Seattle, and Cancun. My expectations were not super high but higher than they would have been had my husband not declared his love for Kami Ramen. We started with the gyoza which was very tasty. We both enjoyed a calpico fizz with rainbow jelly which was freshing and bright tasting. For my entree, I elected to enjoy the Miso ramen with a side of mushrooms. The food came out fast, before we were even into our second gyoza each our ramen was there. The ramen was nice and hot and the ingredients looked fresh. First bite indicated to me that my ramen was spicier than I expected a miso ramen to be. I know I didn't order the spicy miso because I'm not a spicy sort of foodie haha. Anyway, I enjoyed my meal as much as I could until I decided I wanted my husband to try the broth because it was definitely spicier than a non spicy dish should be. Based on his facial expression after trying the broth he said it definitely had a kick to it. Not to mention you could see the chili flakes floating in the dish. We ended up getting the majority of my ramen to take home so my husband can enjoy it for lunch tomorrow. I'm convinced I accidentally was served the spicy miso versus just the miso ramen. I'm going to go back at some point in the future to try it again, but for now this place warrants three stars from me. The owners are super nice and I loved hearing the story behind Kami Ramen. As for the food, I tried the Spicy Miso Ramen which was loaded with flavors. This is my go-to affordable but delicious Ramen spot. Don't know why it took me so long to try them. The ramen here is very good, broth is so flavorful. The one thing I like about this place in comparison to my other favorite ramen spot, Whisky & Ramen, is that Kami offers more choices for the different kinds of ramen and broth. Noodle are cooked well and there's a bunch of add-ons I can choose from. I've had better Bao buns but it's not bad. The calamari is delicious, crispy and well-seasoned, and you have to try the Tobiko Mayo Fries! Trust me, you won't regret it. Don't forget about the drinks; the bubble drinks. They have jelly and boba pearls. I have literally gone there just to get the drinks. Definitely a favorite spot for me. Super small ramen spot in Spenard, can't seat more than 30 people altogether I'd guesstimate. Very nice interior with a lot of wood and maneki-neko waving at you all around the restaurant. Seating is half bar and half small tables, they've got a sign in tablet when you walk in and you can also reserve a spot in advance in Yelp! Prices are reasonable, around 15 bucks for a bowl of ramen. A nice concise menu with a modern look. Wait staff was very efficient! We had some green tea to start (tasted like jasmine tea?) which was nice and hot, especially with the backdrop of 3 degrees Fahrenheit outside. The crispy pork belly was kind of chewy, the sauce it came with was sweet and otherwise not noteworthy. Crispy gyoza is nice and crispy on the underside, soft on the topside. The fillings were fairly bland, the gyoza sauce partly made up the difference here. Excellently cooked, but lacking in flavor. Shoyu ramen came with the expected accoutrements although it lacked in flavor. Needed to add some of the provided soy sauce. Noodles were great! Tonkatsu ramen was rich, but again felt like it was missing salt. Very one note broth. Pork was delicious, as were the noodles and other toppings. This place can definitely compete with some ramen spots in major cities! Everything from the cozy ambiance of the restaurant to the quality of the food made it a great experience overall. Walking in felt like walking into a Japanese ramen shop, and no surprise there was already a line to get into this place. Luckily the servers had a seated super quickly. The most impressive part was how the restaurant portioned the food. This place is one of the few ramen places I've ever been to that had a perfect amount of noodles from start to end.
