Tonkotsu with pork belly, Chicken Katsu with House Curry Sauce, and Dumplings
    Calee C.

The best ramen I have found in the Anchorage area hands down! It's a very small dining area so I would suggest an early dinner (4pm) for relaxed seating and shorter wait. The tonkotsu was great and very flavorful. We tried the dumplings and they were delicious but not necessarily a show stopper like the ramen. My husband tried the katsu and curry and wasn't very impressed. Overall will be back many times!!

Great food!!! You definitely want to get there early because it fills up FAST. I was a little thrown off by the ordering process since I'm sort of a novice ramen person, but they have great wait staff there to answer questions as well since you're using a kiosk to order from.

The spicy tonkotsu ramen is yummy delicious! Stay off the spicy version if you can't take heat. The pork slice hits the spot with its slight char. The fried squid was yummy too. I would prefer slightly puffier batter but this works too.

Since being in town, I've tried two other ramen spots and by far, Kami Ramen is my favorite so far. The place was pretty packed when I arrived, which is always a good sign, but I only waited about 15 minutes to get a seat. Totally worth it. I also really appreciated the ordering process. You place your order at a kiosk when you walk in, which keeps everything moving smoothly especially during busy times. It's easy to browse the menu, customize your meal, and pay upfront without feeling rushed. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and a side of masago mayo French fries, and both were outstanding. The tonkotsu broth was rich, creamy, and full of deep, slow-simmered flavor. It had that perfect savory depth without being too heavy. The noodles were cooked just right with a nice bite, and the toppings tied everything together into a comforting, satisfying bowl. The masago mayo fries were such a fun addition. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and topped with a creamy masago mayo that added a slightly briny pop of flavor. They were indulgent in the best way and paired surprisingly well with the ramen. One of my favorite parts of the experience was watching the staff prepare the soups in the open kitchen while I enjoyed my meal. There's something so satisfying about seeing the care and attention that goes into each bowl from ladling the broth to carefully assembling the toppings. It made the whole experience feel even more authentic and enjoyable. Between the efficient kiosk ordering, the lively atmosphere, and hands-down the best ramen I've had in Anchorage so far, Kami Ramen definitely earns the top spot on my list. I'll absolutely be back.

Lychee green tea with rainbow jelly and spicy tonkotsu ramen with corn

Good ramen place in Spenard. Nice atmosphere for dining with a bar and tables, like you're at a ramen place in Japan. However it feels very cramped if there are several people waiting for a table (which was my experience both times I came here) since there is basically no standing room. The parking lot is also very small, so when I met a friend here he had to park on a side street since the lot was full. Last time I spent more time waiting for a table than my food. I had the spicy tonkotsu ramen with corn which was enjoyable. The pork chasu was on the leaner side, like a pork chop in texture, which I didn't love. The broth and noodles were better. I like the option to add different toppings to ramen. The specialty drinks menu makes this place stand out from similar restaurants in town. I ordered the lychee green tea with rainbow jelly which was just sweet enough. Considering how busy this place is, I definitely recommend making a reservation.

Food is always delicious. Homestyle ramen, perfect on a cold day in Alaska. Service is quick and friendly.

Like Bill L. said, the place was busy! Thankfully, I ordered online and was only picking up. However, even that took 15 minutes for me to be acknowledged and then handed my food that was already sitting on a pickup rack. The ramen was very good, but does not beat my number one ramen spot. I would have liked more broth. I am glad that I ordered the spicy sauce, because without it, I believe the broth would've been a little bland. Overall, I give the Veggie Ramen a B. I also purchased a red bean ice cream fish bar. It was tasty, I like red bean desserts and do not see them often. I give that treat a B+. I do highly recommend others give this place a try, if they are on the fence.

Went Kami Ramen on a recommendation of a friend. Yelp reviews only solidified my reason for coming. Upon entering you enter a clean Japanese ramen shop with a friendly welcome by the Kami team. Your seating can range from high top table, counter or half booth. The menu has a good variety of appetizers, ramen bowls, and other Japanese entrees. We had great pleasure to meet the owner who also took our order. We ordered tonkotsu ramen, spicy & sweet edamame, and gyoza. Ramen was full of flavor that was only enhanced with the noodles. Broth is cloudy and thick with good texture. Chashu were thinly cut and well prepared. Toppings were perfect. We enjoyed the entire meal and service. I have book marked Kami Ramen and look forward to a return visit when in town. Thank you Kami Ramen.

Cute little place; sitting is limited if you have a large group. We came here for lunch. We got Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, Tonkotsu Ramen and Pork Chashu Sandwich and kumquat lemon green tea. All delicious, fresh and tasty. Kids ate everything and they can get picky. Food was good and arrive very fast after we ordered. Would recommend and will come back.

Still good! Still my favorite ramen spot in Anchorage! I like the lychee fizz drink, I think I will try the lychee green tea maybe? Might switch it up. We got the pork chasu sandwich, which is pork on a bao bun. It is very small, like three bites for $4.50. This time around I got the shio ramen. I decided I like the pork better instead of the chicken, so this is my note for next time. I feel like I had less chicken than last time. (Picture is last visit not this one) I do want to try the vegetable ramen, which I might try next time. I think my favorite is the kuromayu ramen, it is identical to the tonkotsu ramen but has black garlic oil. We managed to snag a table around 12 noon, but soon after there was a bit of a wait as the 5 tables and the bar was full. It doesn't take too long to get the ramen out, the other food options take a little longer I believe so people can be in and out. YUM!!

The spicy tonkotsu ramen is delicious and all the sides I tried (crispy gyoza, fries, edamame, and mochiko chicken) were great. I am looking forward to trying another kind on my next visit because they all sounded amazing. I also really want to try the fried pork belly. Yum! The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was clean and cozy. This will 100% be my go-to ramen place in town!

    Masago mayo French fries
    Emily L.

My favorite ramen in Anchorage! I can't say too much about it, but it is so rich and filling, the broth is just perfect. And the French fries are my absolute favorite. Definitely have to add some chili oil and black truffle oil to everything! The peach tea is a great add on, too. As for the space, I wish it was a little larger, but I've never had a problem with waiting, cause it's worth it. Seating is limited but there is plenty of bar space if you are going on your own. And the staff is awesome, very efficient and friendly, which is always important!

Very nice staff and attentive and judging by all the people that waited to get in at opening, they are popular. The atmosphere was pleasant enough, clean and good lighting. Back to the ramen, I know I said it was good but I've lived in Hawaii where there are many ramen restaurants and was looking for different flavor profiles for their broth that I have found on the islands perhaps. This is definitely a "me thing" as I have a couple of friends who absolutely love this place. I would come again since Anchorage's options are limited as well as I know I'll receive good service.

Overall SOLID 4 Stars!…read more There are about half dozen Japanese restaurants in Anchorage, and after reviewing them on Yelp, we decided to visit this establishment. Ambiance 4 Stars - The restaurant is quaint and has limited seating (about dozen tables) and 6 bar seats. When you entered, the decorum feels like you have been transported to Japan and are eating at a local restaurant for the average hardworking people. I felt comfortable and relaxed. Lucky for us, we were able to be seated immediately because when it gets busy, there will be line out the door. And in 20 degree weather, that's not my cup of "matcha" tea. LOL! Service 4 Stars - I believe the restaurant is family owned and operated. Limited staff but the friendly, fast and efficient. Our server recommended several dishes which we ordered on a cold night. Only "ding" to our server was she didn't ask about our drinks. We were served water but she didn't take our drink order which was fine because of the yummy noodle broth we ordered. This place specializes in Japanese noodles, so don't expect a Hibachi show or variety of different sushi options. Their sushi option is very limited and you are not going to order teriyaki chicken with fried rice here. The star of the show are Japanese inspired noodle dishes and Katsu (deep fried Pork or Chicken). Food SOLID 4 Stars - We ordered Four dishes 1. 3 Stars - Pork Katsu - deep fried panko coated Pork with a tiny accompaniment of sliced cabbage. The Tonkatsu sauce (made of ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, and garlic), was liberally squeezed on the top of the dish. It was good but parts of the meat was slightly dry and the panko had a slight burnt taste to it. Possibly it was left in the fryer a little bit longer than it should. 2. 4 Stars - Kimchi Pork Tonkutso Miso Ramen Kimchi inspired w Chasu (pork belly), bean sprouts, green onions, one halved hard boiled egg, garlic flakes and ramen noodles. The ramen were al dente, had a slight chewy texture and it was a great way to soaked up the Miso broth. The miso broth was light and clear. Not as fatty or heavy as some other broths can be but had a wonderful flavor due to the other ingredients in it. This dish is loaded with Kimchi, so it might get a spicy. The Pork Katsu was a great palate cleanser to the kimchi heat. 2. 4 Stars Shoyu Ramen - same ingredients as above without the Kimchi. Also, is it chicken broth with soy sauce. The broth is light, slightly salty, and darker due to the added soy sauce. 3. 4 Stars Naruto Udon - chicken broth, shiitake mushrooms, freshly ground ginger and garlic, seaweed paper, green onions and bean sprouts. The rice based Udon noodles were thick and slippery. At times, they are hard to use with the chopsticks. The chicken broth has a wonderful Umami taste due to the earthy shiitake mushrooms. If you want more a vegetarian meal, this dish is the one. Even though they serve noodle soup dishes, don't forget to try their Japanese / Korean Curry dishes too. I will definitely be back to taste their curry dishes or appetizers like Gyoza and possibly get the Pork Katsu again just to try one more time. Also, there is a Combo Option for additional cost. I combine the Pork Katsu with the Kimchi Tonkutso for an additional $7. Check with your server or look on the menu. The prices and dish items may change later on. Enjoy!

The room has a high-energy, lively vibe without ever feeling overwhelmingly loud, and you can tell why the chef earned a James Beard nomination. You definitely need a reservation; they have a few walk-in spots, but they go very fast, so you will want to get there right when doors open if you do not have one booked. The beverage menu is very well done, with great cocktails and thoughtful mocktails that felt just as crafted. For food, our starters set a high bar; the pork buns, pickles, and octopus were all flavorful and well prepared. The ramen itself was delicious and hits the spot in the Alaska weather, with deep, tasty broths and bold flavors throughout. The Dark Horse was especially good. We did not have room left for dessert, but the savory side of the menu more than delivered.

We came a little after opening at 5:15 and were seated at a table immediately. Larger groups may have trouble without a reservation. Everything was phenomenal. My husband had a couple cocktails and I had a couple NA cocktails. I was really impressed with the NA cocktails -- they were complex in flavor and not overly sweet. Husband was also impressed with his drinks. For appetizers we got the pickles, pork buns and takoyaki. In my opinion the pork buns are the way to go. I also enjoyed the pickles and there were a good garnish with other dishes. For ramens we got the dark horse and Tokyo rich tsukemen. Wow wow wow, they were simply excellent. The broths had so much flavor. The tsukemen was a fun dish with having to assemble it yourself and dip food into the broth. Pork belly serving was very generous.
