This review is for the Kami Teriyaki on Fryelands Boulevard, not the location on Highway 2. I will never return to Kami Teriyaki on Fryelands Boulevard. The chicken teriyaki tasted old, as though it had been reheated rather than freshly prepared. The texture and flavor were off, and I did not feel comfortable eating it. As frustrating as the food issue was, the owner's appalling customer service was far worse. The restaurant specifically told me to bring the food back so it could be replaced. After I made the trip, the owner and his employee refused to replace it or refund the incorrect portions. They were rude, dismissive, and made me feel as though they believed I was being dishonest rather than simply asking them to fix their own mistake. The owner even tasted the returned chicken teriyaki and declared it "good," as though that entitled him to disregard the paying customer standing in front of him. A reputable business would have apologized and corrected the order in minutes. Instead, they wasted more than 30 minutes arguing, showing absolutely no respect, accountability, or concern for customer satisfaction. Mistakes happen. Telling a customer to return food, refusing to honor that promise, and then treating her with disrespect is a business choice. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

Hands down the BEST sushi in the valley! Better then most Iv had in Seattle even, and I'm pretty sure I have gotten sushi from every place there is. Never been disappointed with any of the dishes we have tried here. Flavorful, well portioned, and priced right. I ordered 2 steak Teryaki meals to go,one for me and one for my girlfriend. Service was quick, and the lady behind the counter was nice. Got home and had the salad, as usual with Teryaki salad was not fine cuisine but pretty good. Broke into the steak meal and the flavor and rice was pretty good, again what you would expect. Here we go.. the steak was like chewing shoe leather, it was like steak flavored bubblegum but worse. There is nothing wrong with my teeth, but I probably threw out about 1/2 the steak because it was so hard to chew. We were just lookin for a good Teryaki place for those nights we don't feel like cooking....this is not it. If I'm spending $15 a plate on takeout I expect a lil more. This spot is alright , a pretty typical menu you'd find at most teriyaki shops however they do have sushi, which drew my attention. My husband got the general tsos chicken and thought it lacked flavor. I ordered two different rolls and they were made fresh but some what bland. The staff were nice and the wait was not long (I called ahead on a Saturday night). We got two orders, both came with two scoops of white steamed rice, one order teriyaki chicken, and lastly fried rice. All equally tasty. I still cannot get over the candied Orange peel! Amazing. The thought of eating Asian food in an outpost like Monroe used to be, in a word, abhorrent. Not. Any. More. Okay, so there is no real Asian population, per se, in this once-horse town pit stop on the way to Leavenworth. Don't let that stop you from diverging off course because you just might miss something fairly decent that will leave you with a more favorable impression of this fast-growing city. This location is the second version of the regional franchise, Kami Teriyaki, in Monroe, and lacks the bubble tea capabilities of the first. Located about a couple industrial blocks south of the Sockeye Restaurant/Everett Community College building and across from Lake Tye, I was quite skeptical about eating in this rather sterile, soul-less strip mall but taking chances is what I do when it comes to eating. And, I'm glad I broke through my own misconceptions. Since I was greeted by a friendly Korean woman at the counter, which is the norm in this era of Korean-ized Japanese fast food, I ordered the kal-bi plate and it delivered with tangy, savory, and charred goodness. The meat was properly marinated and retained a soft density that rivaled some of the better Korean yakiniku restaurants around here. Filling out the plate was two small scoops of white rice and the obligatory green salad with a creamy, mildly spicy dressing. Pretty good. On another visit, I tried the sushi, specifically the Rainbow Roll ($8.95). This is the "all in" roll and it was presented as nine thick pieces coated with a selection of salmon, tuna, and/or avocado with a filling of mayo, flaked surimi, tobiko, and cucumber. Probably the best deal on the menu. What to avoid... well, you decide: the ramen ($7.25). The noodles had a texture like it was torn out of an "instant" package. Gratuitous fresh cuts of vegetables like onions, broccoli, canned mushrooms, and carrots added to my dismay in this rather unsexy miso broth. However, the saving grace was those precious finger-sized strips of grilled short ribs! Talk about saving a potential disaster... The kalbi is really good for a small franchise, not overly burnt or drenched in thick faux-teriyaki sauce; the sushi is a winner; and the tea is free. read more

This is what happens when you competition is scarce and what the competition brings to the table wasnt all that good to start with. My order consisted of Beef Teriyaki, Spicy Chicken Teriyaki, Chicken Katsu and some hot and sour soup to go. Quantity was middling and prices were decent, but what I got mostly was overcooked fare leaving me wanting of a better source. The beef teriyaki was a mess of darkness; indistinguishable, small pieces of beef that the menu referred to as steak. It was edible, but what appeared to be steeped in teriyaki sauce yet somehow dry and not pleasing. The spicy chicken teri was likely the best with decently-spicy, but still overcooked chicken pieces, stir fried with some slivered onions. The katsu was overfried and mostly dry and uninteresting. The Hot and sour was hot (as in peppery), but there was no depth of flavor and it had zero sour element to it. It was sad as not wanting to waste it, I dosed the soup with vinegar and soy to get it at least drinkable; everyone else passed on it. Perhaps the shining item was the salad which was fresh tasting, crisp iceberg with a little carrot mixed in to the ubiquitous mayo/soy/sesame oil dressing. read more

Truly terrible. Decided to finally give Kami a try after months of passing it by (and now wishing I did) instead of my usual stand-by two doors down (Asian Spice). Where do I begin? I walked in at 0839pm, before their scheduled close time of 9pm. The lady behind the register gives me this awkward look then... (and I'm serious) shoots a look to the clock. I'm already feeling kind of guilty for coming so close to the close time but.... if you're not willing to sell your brand to the last minute.... don't keep it open! I decide to just quickly order, take my food to go, never come back and struggle through. She asks, is that.... and literally stops. and says "that will be to go, we're closing early." Who does that? A business badly desiring a quick trip to failing. Mind you, I was planning to take it to-go anyway, but if this is your first impression it certainly will be your last. But, wait! It gets better. I get my order, open the box to throw on some Sriracha and see.... well, look at the picture. The jokers in the kitchen did not even peel or devein the shrimp. Truly lazy and gross. The beef teriyaki smelled and tasted like perfume with a very heavy hand of salt. Chicken Katsu was very dry but edible. You don't get as much for your money as you'd expect. Food portions are mediocre and food is extremely sugary and oily. There are plenty of other options in the Monroe area to choose from. Disappointed came here to get some sushi... got here at 7:20 and they said the sushi is closed and the restaurant doesn't CLOSE till 9 come on... the lady at the register looked annoyed that we came in right after we ordered, she looked to be counting down the register unprofessional! She proceed and then went to the tip jar a took about $30 and stashed it into her wallet, leaving about 5 dollars in it. Kami Teriyaki, in a little strip mall surrounded by offices and warehouses, is a decent offering. Another teriyaki place that I'm not passionate about, but it is good. A number of different offerings, prices are okay, and the food is pretty good. It's not a mind blowing experience, but it's decent teriyaki. If you work in the area, it is one of a few very close options, and is a good one out of the others (Asian Spice, a burger joint, and Paisano's Coffee share the strip mall). I eat here a couple of times a week. They customize as requested, which is the norm for me. They are fast and consistent and extremely kind. I typically get the chicken teriyaki and gyoza (potstickers). I find that many other local Asian food places serve food that is drenched in grease or overly salty sauces. Not your cleanest place to eat. However, my expectations weren't that high to grab a quick bite to eat. Teriyaki places seem to taste pretty much the same. After ordering, I sat down and slowly began to regret my decision to eat here, peering through the open doorway where the food is prepared, a large bowl of chicken (maybe 10+ lbs.) sat unattended... uncooked in a 70+ degree kitchen for the duration of my stay. I was thankful I ordered the Mongolian Beef, but still I pondered if there was a large bowl of uncooked beef sitting just outside of my eye line. The meal itself was..ok. The beef was cooked nicely, quite alot like the Bejing beef at Panda Express, but the sauce was watered down enough to have little taste left. There was no heat or richness to the dish. Got the chicken yakisobi (not sure how to spell it) since I saw another customer get it as I walked in. For another buck, ordered brown rice.
