"Well, that was food." Was in Monroe at a craft fair with a friend when we thought, Teriyaki sounds good, so we stopped in. It was interesting because it was multi-cultural. They had Jarito's soda in the cooler, but no sodas on the fountain. There was minimal interaction between servers and customers. When we got our food, it was ok. It arrived reasonably fast, but the portions were small for the money they charged. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this restaurant unless they work on portion size and fix the soda fountains, and while they are at it, become more customer-friendly. read more

Wow, I am really glad I found this place. I get a monthly stipend on GrubHub from my employer, and this place was pretty well rated on there. Looking at Yelp, it said they were closed, but they were open on GrubHub so I rolled the dice and ordered. It turns out, they were actually open and it was a great experience. The restaurant is pretty basic - just a bunch of tiny tables, white walls - nothing special. But, maybe they just do most of their business in take out and that's fine. I probably wouldn't eat there, personally - not good vibes. I got the spicy chicken teriyaki - added extra hot sauce and extra teriyaki sauce. The food I got was super piping hot - freshly cooked and packaged in styrofoam and wrapped in a plastic bag, tied at the top, which held in the heat. The extras were like... bigger plastic containers (you can see in my pic - the bigger containers at the top - and the smaller container on top of it - about half the size), and the extras were way more than I needed. It comes with a little side of teriyaki sauce already, and that ended up being enough for me. The spicy sauce was actually pretty darn spicy. Most places... it's like barely spicy - which can be good or bad, right? If it's barely spicy, it's a little more balanced and you get more of the super sweet, sticky teriyaki sauce coming trhough. However, Manse... does spicy... spicier. The main flavors are sweet, but a focus on spicy heat and vinegar - almost maybe like a fermented hot sauce. Had high hopes for this little teriyaki joint. Three stars is "A-OK" in Yelp parlance, and that's what this place is. Okay. Small shop. And small staff (family?) that has a hard time keeping up with things like busing tables. When I was there, only two of the ten tables were clean and available. Dirty dishes remained on the others. Once there was a lull, the man from behind the counter finally cleaned the tables. The food is also just okay. Teriyaki is very salty. In fact, salt is about the only taste. Spicy sauce is better. Potstickers were good. They charge extra for brown rice, but at least they have it. I'd stop here again only if in the mood for teriyaki and I was nearby. I had the chicken teriyaki and pot stickers delivered to my hotel after a long day. I did an online order using door dash. My order was accepted right away and my food delivered earlier than their anticipated time line. Everything was cooked well. The pot stickers were crisp and the dipping sauce had a nice flavor. Typically I dont care for the sauce most restaurants use and I use plain soy sauce, but this had a nice mild flavor. Same for the Teriyaki sauce, it was a nicely balanced flavor and I like that it was served on the side and not smothered on the chicken. The interior of the restaurant can definitely use some love (typical mom&pop Asian cuisine in a strip mall vibe), but the food was great and the portions more than fair. I got the spicy teriyaki chicken & pork combo and it was great! If I were to make one critique, I would say maybe a little too much sauce. We discovered this place on our way to Leavenworth! Wanted a quick stop off on our way up the mountain. Found this hidden teriyaki place (gotta love yelp!) We stopped for a quick bite! I asked for regular chicken breast teriyaki and a side of their spicy sauce. That part was disappointing. It was like a paste. Yuck. Didn't like that at all!! I don't love the salad dressing, but that's a taste issue. Wish I could give 4.5 stars... I usually go to the Teriyaki restaurant near Fred Meyer but they were closed. This location was disappointing at best. The teriyaki sauce doesn't really taste like teriyaki. Too salty and sweet and I couldn't taste ginger. The teriyaki portion was small and made to look big by putting it on top of rice. The meat was overcooked and tough. I used to love coming here. The owners were kind and knew my family. It had been a while so my husband and I ordered to go. Only to find a hair in my food. We drove back to see if he could give us a refund and he refused. We even showed him the hair. I ordered the Yakisoba Chicken. My buddy had the Teriyaki Chicken and gyozas plate. The Yakisoba was instant Ramen mixed with Cabbage, Carrots, and so little meat. You thought it was vegetarian Gyozas were store bought frozen and fried in a pan. When you bit into them they still contained ice. I gave it all to Jeff. Chicken plate consisted of 2 chicken thighs, shredded cabbage salad. After that my buddy was still hungry. Serving was tiny. They bottle up the commercial teriyaki sauce and Srichachahot sauce into small jars for $5. You find these at gallon containers in COSTCO. The funny thing is people actually buy them off the counter. Go to COSTCO people it only cost $10. They corner the market in Monroe because there is no other Teriyaki Place in the area. If the residents ever leave that neck of the woods they would find better places. But if thats your world then you believe its the best. Like I mentioned Avoid like the plague. This is my favorite teriyaki place and not just in Monroe. Friendly staff. Clean. Good value. Wide selection. The thick Teri. sauce is fantastic and so is the crushed chili sauce. It's on every table and there is a reason you don't see other places selling their sauces by the jar. I favor the beef and pork combo but the other items are good as well. Definitely NOT great food.. the tempura batter is way too thick and tasteless. I found the tempura pieces to be too large, they should have cut the veggies better. The tempura, spring rolls, and beef teriyaki were all over cooked and tasted burnt. The spring rolls tasted burnt and had a funny aftertaste like the oil was old. I always get the chicken teriyaki here. Sooo good. It's always fresh so it takes a few minutes for them to cook it, but that is totally fine. If anyone wants to know the main difference in cuisine from Southern California to the Greater Seattle region, I would tell them "imagine they replaced all the local Mexican food spots and Short Order spots with Terriaki spots." That's basically it in a nutshell. You can't go far without running into these places up here and no matter where you live, it will end up becoming one of your default eating options when your fridge is empty and you are too lazy to take your ass to the store, drive home, then prepare the food. These places are mostly all the same, which is why it is difficult for me to fathom how people argue over rating them. With very few exceptions, these places will be Japanese branded (something like "Tokyo Terriaki" for example), but Korean owned, and with Mexicans cooking all the food (natch). As far as the food, you basically get some meat that is chopped up, then pan fried and served on rice with teriyaki sauce on it. From there, the differences are minimal. All will have the same variations available: breaded chicken, tempura this or that, noodles of some sort, etc. Defining the differences in these establishments is essentially splitting hairs. Man SE Teriyaki is I suppose my local T joint as it is the closest to me and the only place I've bothered to try in my general area. The food is not better or worse than any other of these places I've eaten at. One thing that is different about this T joint is that they really try to charge you extra for anything that deviates from the basic formula of chopped meat on rice with sauce and a side of chopped cabbage with some mystery white fluid on it (or "salad"). Want "spicy" sauce? Substitute the salad for rice? Brown rice not White rice? Extra Ramekin of sauce? Extra Charge! Extra Charge! Extra Charge! Also, as pointed out by other reviewers, they apparently think their sauce is unique enough to bottle and sell it to you for a ridiculous fee. I've never seen anyone actually buy it, but if you get anything from this review ... the sauce, like the business, is not unique. read more
