Fresh on the Boat!
Brenny M.

A wonderful date night included dinner at a lovely little sushi bar in downtown Walnut Creek. The place was empty when we walked in but filled up very quickly. We were also greeted by the friendliest staff. Our original plan was to share a sushi boat but had to go to plan b when we were told that they did not have a sushi boat on the menu. So the hunny ended up ordering the sashimi combo while I ordered the nigiri combo. Much to our surprise, the chef honored our request & combined our order on to a sushi boat! The presentation was absolutely stunning, and everything was so fresh & delicious. The chef told us we were the first customers to order the sushi boat. Hopefully, we won't be the last. We will definitely be back.

Walking by on this beautiful winter evening, we decided to drop by with my wife and little baby Mira. Always wanted to stop by and try this place out. Place was empty with only one table occupied. We got offered a drinks and recommended some rolls to choose from. Browse to the menu and ordered a standard Dragon, Phila and Caterpillar rolls to compare the quality. Got slightly disappointed because my favorite Dragon came falling apart, not tightly rolled. Phila and Caterpillar were just standard, nothing special. Service felt a little pushy and was never there when needed. Overall recommendation is that there are better "bang for a buck" out there.

Honestly, this place is better than the 3.5 Star Yelp review it has. It's a decent place to eat sushi in Walnut Creek. And while yes, the prices are high, they make it up in portions. The tekka maki I got was one of the largest sizes I've ever seen. And I think they may have snuck in some toro in the cut, which was a treat. Yes the restaurant is run by Chinese staff, but it shouldn't be a knock. Nigri sizes are large as well, and the fish they served had garnishes, such as yuzu kosho, that made them tastier. So yeah, my wife and I enjoyed our meal. I would come back here if I wanted a casual night. Our bill was $110 between two people, but we ordered a ton of food. By comparison, we ordered 1/2 as much and paid nearly twice as much at Sasa.

Excellent service, rolls were very delicious, family, friendly, and affordable prices. Also, the tempura was well cooked, not greasy very crispy and fresh.

Oyama is nestled on Main Street in Walnut Creek. It's a small mom and pop restaurant and we went out for a date Nite. We were happy to be seated quickly. I ordered iced tea and it was flavored. I asked the waitress and she said that was all they had. They do have high chairs and booster seats for the kiddos and the bathrooms were clean. We had agedashi tofu and a couple of rolls. The agedashi wasn't the best, but the rolls were great. Next time I'm in Walnut Creek looking for Japanese fare, I probably will look at other places first before coming back. Price w/ tip: $54

We come here often as it is a hole in the wall type of place. The service has always been good. The ambiance is relaxed, it can get a bit noisy if sitting close . The food always taste good to me. I was a little disappointed because they did not have my favorite cocktail "pineapple smash" but all good. I am still coming back!

Honestly, I'm here for this place having 3 1/2 stars. Only because its true what they say about Asian cuisine's with the 3 1/2 stars. My home girl Ayanna introduced me to this location and their toro sushi was THE ONE! We literally ordered of their specials and it did not disappoint at all. This is definitely a hidden gem and I know if you're a regular they treat you like their own - LOL. I only know cause my home girl is a regular and they were super pleasant to us. I would highly suggest NOT ordering to go and eat in, because I NEVER order sushi to go unless its a place I feel super comfortable ordering out with, but this location is definitely a eat in place. Maybe a lot better experience.

White tuna and toro is out of this world!! Fresh!!! Service was good! This sushi joint nestled among all that fancy restaurants on North Main Street is a hidden gem! We will be back!

Worm in the Tuna...
Angela R.

This review is long overdue, but I was reminded when cleaning out some photos on my phone. I came here for lunch with a coworker, and we both ordered the chirashi lunch. My coworker is quite the fisherman, so when he started pulling something out his tuna, he knew it was a worm. How can you tell? There is a VEIN! I immediately lost my appetite, and I called the waitress over to show her, but she claimed it was just how the tuna flesh was... She DID NOT bring it to the chef, she DID NOT apologize, she charged us in full for both meals. Mostly we felt brushed off. My coworker was so nice he didn't even want to bring it up. No one should accidentally eat parasites and still pay full price! It's just wrong. I felt horrible recommending this place to my coworker, as it was his first and last time there. Sadly, I don't plan to go back even though I thought highly of Oyama beforehand.

This place has HUGE rolls very tasty and not skimpy on the amount of raw sashimi on your rolls highly recommend their golden bear and hot mamacita roll. Worth the price for the size of EACH roll m

Tucked away in Walnut Creek, this is the perfect intimate, casual sushi spot for a relaxed date night or dinner with friends. The welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and fresh ingredients made for an outstanding dining experience. We started with the shrimp and vegetable tempura, which arrived hot, crispy, and perfectly light without feeling greasy. It was the ideal appetizer to share. For our rolls, we ordered the Volcano Roll, featuring spicy tuna and shrimp tempura, and the Arizona Roll, made with crab and topped with seared albacore. Both were beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The freshness of the fish was the star of the meal. The seared albacore on the Arizona Roll practically melted in your mouth, and every bite had a clean, fresh taste that showcased the quality of the ingredients. The Volcano Roll delivered a delicious combination of textures and flavors, with just the right amount of spice and crunch. Nothing was overpowering--you could truly taste the freshness of the fish and the care that went into each roll. The restaurant was spotless, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming throughout our visit. Service was prompt without feeling rushed, allowing us to enjoy the meal at a comfortable pace. Fresh fish, crispy tempura, creative rolls, and exceptional hospitality make this a standout sushi destination in Walnut Creek. The only downside? Once you finish your last piece, you'll wish you had ordered more. We enjoyed our experience so much that we're already looking forward to coming back to try the omakase, which will definitely be on our next order.

I especially loved their salmon in each of the bowls. It tasted nice and fatty and creamy. I loved the other fish as well though! I also felt that they did their tamago very well. Typically when I get tamago I feel like other restaurants don't get the texture correct and it can come out overcooked/rubbery so I don't end up finishing it. The tamago here was the perfect texture and the flavor/sauce made it really delicious. The texture of the rice in each bowl was great as well. The servers were both really nice and attentive throughout our meal which is always appreciated. I highly recommend sitting outside on the patio if the weather is good! They don't really serve the classic sushi rolls we were expecting. We mainly went because my daughter really wanted sushi, but unfortunately she didn't like the options they had and barely ate anything. I also found the portions on the small side. The prices themselves weren't unreasonable, but they felt a bit high for the amount of food you get. That said, I personally enjoyed what I ordered. It just wasn't the kind of sushi experience I was expecting. I guess this visit taught us that next time we'll check the menu first instead of choosing a sushi place based only on the ratings.

Parking was a bit tricky as they had some sort of event and a lot of the streets were closed off so I had to drive around a bunch of times. Luckily I came earlier than my reservation time. It was pretty nice weather out so I opted for a table outside but the ambiance is nice inside. Dim setting if you want to sit inside. I ordered a spicy pineapple margarita for my drink but it tasted like it didn't have any alcohol in it so that was a bummer so I didn't really want to order any other drink. I ordered the spicy edamame for appetizer, but it wasn't spicy and lacked a little in flavor/seasoning. I still ate it as I needed some sort of vegetables. For my food, I ordered my favorite salmon melt! This is a must order when you come. Always a hit! (I dipped my edamame in the sauce and it added great flavor to it lol) They had a Mother's Day special for handrolls and I was tempted to try it but didn't want to be super full, so I got two nigiri's instead; one hamachi and one spicy scallop. Both were so good! I would definitely order it again. Hamachi was fresh and soft. Easy to chew. Spicy scallop was made with a spicy mayo and cut up into pieces. Both were really good portion sizes. I was full but wanted to order more cause they were so good. I was offered the dessert menu but I was full so I didn't order any. Love coming to Sasa. Great service, great food and nice restaurant. A big piece of tofu skin and a fair amount of rice complemented each other well. My only critique is I wished it was a bit more "vingeary" like flavor. I know I tasted the sauce there, but I wish it was a tab bit more noticeable. Chicken Teriyaki and Tempura Lunch Combo: This is so much food for a lunch combo. I honestly was able to make two servings out of this. The edamame beans are a nice appetizer to start and the salad had a very delicious dressing. The teriyaki chicken was as expected and the sauce was not overtly sweet.
