Kanahashi is truly a hidden gem of greenpoint. We didn't know what to expect the first time we ordered them on Uber Eats, there was a promotion so we figured why not give them a try. The food delivered to us that day was amazing, the sushi was of high quality fish, the miso soup is so flavorful and the salmon rolls were delicious! We continued to order out for them for a while as they were super consistent and very affordable. Then everything changed when we decided to eat inside for the first time. The restaurant is very spacious and has this super nice modern look to it, they have a very big bar with a wide variety of drinks and a ton of seating space. The staff is incredibly kind and efficient, every time I go in to pick up my order they great me with a warm hello and remember my name! You have to visit this sushi spot at least one time, they have a large selection of dishes, sushi, sashimi, soups, noodles, desserts, drinks, it's endless. What really stands out to me about Kanahashi above everything else is the quality. With prices as reasonable as there's, you don't automatically expect super high quality fish, but looks can be deceiving. Their fish is so fresh and delicious, it never has had a bad taste, they use really high quality ingredients and the technique that goes into making the food is on another level. Whenever my girlfriend & I are in the mood for sushi, we come here no doubt! If you come, I recommend getting their crispy rice tuna, the miso soup; and honestly any of their specialty rolls. Beautiful restaurant, delicious rolls. They really rolled out the red carpet for my family and I for my mom's birthday dinner. We ordered the sushi boat and it was pretty epic. I have been ordering from this place for years already however every time I come I find one of the employees, a young tall man extremely disrespectful. Really great value for the price. Takoyaki was some of the best I've ever had. They didn't skimp on the meat in our spicy tuna and spicy shrimp rolls, and the golden eel roll was very tasty. Soft shell crab roll was also great. Service was attentive and kind. Very easy to get a table at 9:15 on a Saturday night. We were able to watch March madness at the bar. So, I've been here a few times. It's not bad, but each time I've come it's been underwhelming. It meets my sushi cravings, but I've found the quality and presentation of the food can be inconsistent. One time the sushi smelled waaaaay too artificially fishy, to the point it made me kinda worried. But all's well that ends well, I guess. The vibe inside is fine. They have some comfy booth-like seating which is nice and comfortable. It can be kinda busy in there, but still is nice enough where you feel relaxed during your meal. Takeout review. The menu is definitely very robust, spanning your teriyakis, to katsu, to hibachi, to sushi. And was definitely having a sushi craving, so that part was easy. It was harder to narrow down what kind of sushi I wanted, especial with some many tasty sounding special and signature rolls. I ordered delivery via UberEats for lunch. The restaurant has a great lunch special, the maki triplet lunch is 3 rolls + miso soup for $17. I was surprised that there was a decent selection of rolls for the lunch special. I got 3 rolls: Ikura cucumber, spicy salmon, and shrimp tempura. I have never seen an ikura cucumber roll at a sushi restaurant, but I love ikura and wanted to try it. The roll did not disappoint! There was a generous amount of ikura in each roll. Spicy salmon roll tasted fresh. Shrimp tempura roll was properly battered and had a good crunch. My only compliant is that the hibachi noodles were a let down. I was expecting slightly thicker noodles, as this is what I have gotten from other restaurants. The restaurant also forgot to give me soy sauce in my bag, luckily I had some at home. Food was delicious and fresh. I thought it was great value for the quality of seafood you're getting. The fish were melt in your mouth fresh. The duck roll was good but can be passed on. The only gripe was not giving us condiments like soy sauce in the delivery. Oh, and the presentation of the sashimi/sushi for two was on point There's some negative reviews for this spot but people need to separate delivery reviews with the food especially if you ordered it off a a third party platform like DoorDash, Uber eats, Postmates etc. They are not affiliated with the restaurant and it's not fair to give a negative feedback for something out of their control. read more

We have pretty good sushi options in Long Island City but we wanted to try this place because of the high the reviews and branch out. Their online delivery platform had delays from the get go. 10 minute delay from the time we ordered until we got the confirmation, and then when the order didn't come after an hour we called, and THEN someone drove it over. The actual platter which is a sushi/sashimi combo for 2 doesn't come with soup or salad. Portion felt significantly smaller than how Sapp's or Ooi sushi (our usually go to sushi restaurants) serves it even though it was in the same price range of $60+. We also explicitly asked for no white tuna, which they could have substituted or left out but they included anyways. Made me wonder if they read the additional comments for the delivery orders. Another gripe is that the kinmedai (pink fish with skin on it) was basically inedible because the skin was extremely tough. We ended up spitting it out and it was a bummer. ALL IN ALL, we wouldn't order delivery again... but it looks like many diners have had a great experience. Maybe we can try dine-in and update our review some day. read more

Fresh ingredients and unique flavor combinations! We got the hamachi duo, golden eel roll, and salmon nigiri. I love hamachi and their hamachi duo roll was so good! The sweet pepper sauce was really unique, but really tasty. The eel roll was okay, the shrimp tempura inside the roll was cold, so it didn't have that nice fresh crunch to it. I got delivery from this place ordered for me by someone else and it was definitely the worst delivery experiences I've had. I'm not sure if it was through the company or the third party, but definitely extremely unprofessional and rude. I was expecting the food to be left outside my door, as per usual Covid protocol - especially since I was feeling very unwell at the time and had lost my voice. However, the guy kept banging on the door until my roommates opened it and he was demanding a cash tip aggressively. This was ordered for me online so I assume they could've just done this online. Extremely rude and would not leave and I couldn't even talk to him since I didn't have my voice. As for the food: Wok charred edamame ($7) - the cream cheese and avocado were added on. The cream cheese was melted on, which was really good but the avocado was just on the side and not worth it. The cream cheese and miso was a good combination though, albeit a bit salty. Each addition was 50 to 70 cents extra. Sashimi entree ($22) - this came with 15 pieces, and honestly they were pretty hit or miss in quality. The tuna wasn't very good but the salmon was great. The other fish were also pretty good. Each type of fish comes with 3 piece. For the price though, this is a pretty good deal. Seafood udon ($15) - this was not great. The soup was flavorless and it felt like they just dumped a bunch of things in water. The amount of seafood was good though and the scallops were good in this. The noodles were also kind of gummy. Overall, bad delivery experience. I'm sure the dine in experience is probably way better. Sashimi entree is great and good value, but definitely avoid the seafood udon. My coworkers kept talking about sushi, so by the time I got to KanaHashi, I was starving and overordered: miso soup, tempura, and Tobiko King specialty roll. I was in an "eat my feelings" mood. Unfortunately, the tempura tasted previously frozen and the oil did not have a clean taste - I should've skipped it. The Tobiko King roll is admittedly over the top with spicy tuna, softshell crab, eel, and seaweed salad inside, drizzled in spicy mayo and unagi sauce. It was extremely salty, and I didn't even use soy sauce. I drank a lot of water and ate all the pickled ginger trying to balance it out. KanaHashi is good in a pinch, and the service was excellent, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more
