Great rugby bar in Ballard that lets your order a tower of beer to go with the show. Theres at least two TVs per room, so you'll never miss out! K&K has a good selection of rotating drafts, cocktails, ciders and sours. The food is typical bar food, but never a bad item on the menu. This place charged me $80 for four drinks. $50 for two the first time, then $30 for two the second time. We just noticed after checking our bank account. There is NO way that those drinks were worth that much, they barely had any alcohol in them and they weren't even filled up all the way. DO NOT GO HERE. We may have to cancel our card because we don't know if they will use our information. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and will continue to fight to get this place checked on so no other people get scammed like us. Truly sickening. read more

Have had pretty good experiences here, until tonight. Came with a couple friends and were harassed by an opposing table all night, they even approached us and made inappropriate comments. We complained to the bar with very little response. After maybe 3 drinks, we were told we could only have singles. I'm very disappointed by the service we received, especially after being attacked by other patrons. We did nothing to show that we were too drunk or "belligerent". I will not be coming back here after this terrible experience. Do not cut us off for being attacked by another table. One of my fave places to go out in Ballard. I love their assortment of games and activists. The drinks are reasonably priced and they have a pretty wide liquor selection. They also source a lot of their beer/ciders from local breweries and I love that I can recognize where many of their choices on tap are from. The staff is always very friendly, even when it's absolutely packed and they're getting hollered at from all sides. I always see employees buzzing through the various rooms to pick up glassware and other dishes/trash to clear room for new guests. I always enjoy coming here for dancing, darts, and shuffleboard. Stepped into this bar during the Seafood festival. I was surprised by the drink selection they had available.. it's quite a variety! They had a really great beer selection for sure. Some of the drinks were a bit more on the pricier end but due to the variety, you could also grab something on a budget. The scene was great too. They had a Biergarten with a DJ if you wanted an outdoor/more lively scene, or inside they were playing music lightly and have a lot of seating. I was excited to pick up some classic bar food for dinner a few nights ago, but was disappointed when I got home and cut into a raw burger. It looked great from the outside, but when the beer battered fish my husband had ordered looked charred beyond recognition, I decided to cut my burger in half to check it before taking a bite. It was raw. Clearly whoever was cooking that night was new to the job. If they had cooked the burger as long as they cooked the fish and cooked the fish the length of time they cooked the burger, both would probably have been edible. It's hard to pass-up the opportunity to get one's drink on in an old library. The building lends a certain cachet, and I applaud them for snagging this location with its well-worn, wood floors and old world craftsmanship. The appearance and service were definitely bonuses. The humor was greatly appreciated. Before pub trivia started, an Aussie gentleman went around taking the participants' registration money. One group loudly proclaimed they wanted to be the "Titty Twisters," much to the protest of the ladies at the table. The gentleman then suggested the "Knob Twisters," which made me laugh ever so horribly as I waited for Brandon D. to return with my cider. The men appeared confused, but went with it, if I remember correctly. The food was the more middling of the experience. I got the lamb, which was cooked to well-done, making it tough, and covered in this sweet sauce, which completely hid the taste of the meat. Should I return in the future, I'd make sure to try something else. Still, I'd more recommend Kangaroo & Kiwi as a good place to grab a few drinks and hang out. read more

It might be a marvelous pub at night, but we were there at the wrong time, wrong restaurant for a wrong meal. My family was looking for a restaurant for lunch when we noticed this big old red brick building on the street. A public library turned into a restaurant? Cool and we got to try it out. Besides, we never tried Australia food before so it's something new. The place turned out to be a pub though it serves brunch. However at lunch time there were only two waitress for the whole pub, and kitchen is quite slow in preparing lunch. Meanwhile, seems not much customers mind the serving speed because they were all sipping beer, chatting and playing board games. It's more like a gathering place rather than restaurant. BTW, they got tons of board games. The food was close to British cuisine, and tasted about average. My kid loved his sausage and mashed potato, while my wife's burger was nothing special. I and a friend ordered meat pie, which is exactly like the meat pie from British restaurant. The meat pie looks cold but really really hot inside so be careful eating it. The taste was OK but again, nothing exciting. Meanwhile, they got quite a list for beer and hard ciders. Unfortunately, we need to drive to other places right after lunch so we didn't order any of them. After this meal, I feel that I need to visit here again at a Fri or Sat night, with bunch of friends drink beer while watching a soccer game. Big room, huge choice of beer and snack food, it's a nice pub. However, it's not a good place for family lunch. read more

Me and my friends have been coming to this bar for the past three months and we've always had a great time. However, two weeks ago, my impression of Kangaroo & Kiwi changed from a chill and friendly bar into an unfriendly, sleazy place where the bouncers steal your real IDs. Let me explain what happened: I was waiting in line to meet my friends, who were already inside ordering their drinks. There were a couple of girls who were standing behind me, waiting eagerly to get inside. Once I got in front of the line, there stood the bouncer. He wore a black hoody, a ski mask and trainers. I gave him my ID (a valid state ID from California) and he told me it was fake. How could it be? I never owned a fake ID in my life. Now I'm being accused of fraud? He aggressively told me to step aside. And if I wanted to get my real ID back, I would have to call the Seattle Police Department. One of the women, who was standing behind me, was told the same thing by the bouncer. She dialed 911. Her facial expression changed from excitement to being emotional and scared. What kind of business establishment makes their customers call 911? After 30 minutes of sheer anxiety, we finally got our IDs back, with no explanation on why they thought they were fake in the first place. While all of this was happening outside the bar, my friends were denied service. Here's my message to the manager: tell your bouncer to treat your customers with respect. Because here's the things. There are hundred bars in Seattle that people can choose from. An overly aggressive bouncer can very well drive your business down the drain! read more

I have always liked the Kangaroo and Kiwi prior to pandemic, and I think I like it even better now. Usually when I come in, the smell of the place reminds me of a men's bathroom urinal, but I like the space and oddly enough the food is decent. So I have never let that stop me. I stopped by yesterday with a friend, after a gym workout down the street, for brunch. I wore my mask inside, and didn't notice any smells. Actually seems cleaner now since the last I visited, over two years ago. The bartenders greeted us right away and were nice and accommodating. We sat outside in the sunshine and it was super relaxing. Food and drinks came out fast and were delicious. I had a bloody mary and the avocado smash, and really enjoyed it. (shouted way too emphatically while I glare at her and consider shoving her off her bar stool) My first visit to K&K was right when they opened to grab a beer and watch some of the NCAA tournament. The bar was pretty empty (who knew drinking midday on a Thursday was so unpopular?), but the regulars made us feel welcome. The bar is nothing fancy, but is a tribute to all things Australian and Kiwi (not the fruit); they have surf, rugby and soccer items gracing the walls and ceiling, as well as native food/candy items for sale including the truly disgusting Vegemite. They have two real dart boards, not those craptastic plastic ones. However, the one board's proximity to the pool table is less than desirable, I mean no one wants a dart to the temple while planning their next pool shot. We stayed until the place became overrun with Sounders fans drowning out the basketball game. We came back the following night to hear a stand-up act and have a few (read lots) drinks. The evening crowd was pretty diverse, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. The pool table situation was a bit annoying, two old guys seemed to be dominating the table; they bumped my friend down the list without asking, but everything worked out in the end when he beat them sending them home. I can't speak for the rest of their menu, but the nachos are pretty awesome. I did my usual "I'm not hungry, I'll just have a bite" and ended up wolfing down way more than my fair share. I had to wait over 20 min from ordering my beer to get s menu. Luckily, another sever I flagged down (I am sitting right at the damn bar) was willing to provide one after asking. ...after a rather sad ...(thankfully on HH pricing, otherwise this would be a longer yet review of their) mediocre nachos. *Hint; try putting your nachos on something larger than a sushi plate! Um, nachos are messy...! ...a very nice blond server I was able to flag down told my surly server that I wished to pay my bill. I've been here a few times and I've always had a good time. I actually came here last night to watch the Sounders US Open Cup final... which I refuse to go into detail about, but anyway, I'll focus on the pub itself. It was happy hour when we got there (4:30 to 6:30), but I didn't know what the HH prices were, so I just ordered the Strongbow Cider, which was really pretty amazing. I'm not a huge beer fan, so I usually opt for cider. We also ordered some appetizers and a pie. The pie was my favorite!!! We got the one with peas, mashed potatoes, ground beef, etc... so so good. The "spicy" fried chicken wings were really bland... and the nachos were OK too. I had a bite of the portobello sliders, but I was too full at that point to finish it. But it was pretty tasty. I'll just say that the food took forever, but it's expected since it was a packed house for the soccer match. They have lots of board games and random games that people can play. There are plenty of tables and stools around as well, including an outdoor deck area, which I haven't been to yet. Overall, I really like the place because it feels casual, fun and chill, all at the same time. And they also have liquor if you're not a beer fan. read more

Bartender will change the prices and over charge. And then when you ask about the price he will lie to your face and say oh no there's a new price you can look at it online. I pointed out the big 5 foot sign out front with all the prices listed and the bartender wouldn't honor those prices. Then the bartender ran away and wouldn't talk to me anymore. Later I looked at the website and saw that all the prices online match what's posted outside. Check your tabs - the bartenders really dishonest. The other bartender, she never washes her hands. Instead of using two hands to pour a pint, she would hold the glass and pull the tap handle with one hand. Problem is she's really small, so to do that she has to put her dirty ass hand around the lip of the glass to be able to reach the tap handle and hold the glass at the same time. I watched her clear and scraping dirty plates, do this pour and hand it off to the other bartender and then go back to the dirty dishes and do this multiple times to people's glasses . Never once washing her hands. This place is disgusting. read more

Worst service I've ever received. The person checking our ID refused to let my transgender friend in because the picture did not look like her exactly given the make up and clothes. After a few minutes of talking to Nicole, the supposed manager, she did not solve any problems and just said "not tonight" as she walked away.The person checking IDs did not let me in because he said he did not look at my ID even though I handed it to him and I matched the 21+ requirement but he was too busy arguing with the manager to realize. He's young, had a chain and my friend had a terrible experience with him accusing her of something that never happened. It was a highly aggressive move the bartender made and he also decided that making a scene was appropriate. I will never step foot in this bar due to how aggressive the escort was, I wish I got on film. I'll be spreading the word to everyone about this bar. Unacceptable. read more
