With new ownership, everything has changed and not for the better. Used to be a favorite of ours. Tonight will be our last. Recipes have changed, and ingredients have changed as well - not for the better. Special House soup is both very salty and tasteless at the same time is if that's possible basically nothing in it except some broccoli and huge chunks of celery. Shrimp are microscopic, pork is no longer strips. Just slabs of tough pork. Chicken was nonexistent as well. One water chestnut. This picture of the soup shrimp in my spoon says it all. The food quality had been declining over the past five years, but in the past few months it has drastically fallen. For example, with General Tso or Sweet n Sour chicken dishes, after breaking apart a piece to view underneath the breading, you are lucky to find any chicken. The other dishes also seem to be loaded with sugar and oil to mask the fact that they have switched to less authentic ingredients. At the same time, portions sizes have noticeably decreased while prices creep up. Tried a few new items and wanted to add to my review: Szechuan dumplings are delicious! Always getting these going forward. Not super spicy just good flavor! Singapore noodles have a good curry taste but the pork tastes off-putting in my opinion. Honey chicken is sweet and crunchy. Another favorite. read more

Had to update after our most recent visit to Kang's Garden. It is still my favorite Chinese take out in Tampa Bay! I have tried too many Chinese fast food places where the focus is on fast and not on the food - and way too many where I have been served super greasy food that is basically inedible - it is the complete opposite at Kang's Garden - always delicious food served quickly at a reasonable price, which is why we have been coming back for over 10 years (even though we moved and drive by many other Chinese take out places on our way to Kang's Garden). This time I was in the area and ordered in person (vs calling in) so I waited inside and saw how busy they were while I waited. They seemed to have tons of business from the food delivery apps (they never offered delivery in the past), so their wait time may be a few minutes longer than in the past (but still super fast). As always, the food tasted fresh, delicious, and was not at all greasy. When you see how busy their kitchen is and how many customers come and go within 15 minutes, it is amazing that they are able to turn out such a consistently high quality if food every time! My husband loves their General Tso's combo (with egg roll and wonton soup), and has been one of his favorites for 10+ years. I live their shrimp fried rice (doesn't taste like other fast food, and not greasy or oily like other places), and their pan fried dumplings! I never hear anyone complaining about their food from Kang's Garden, which is rare! They currently don't offer any dine in options (they used to have a couple of tables) due to the pandemic, but it seemed like most customers got their food to go anyways. My only suggestion would be that they update the photos of the food in their lobby above the counter. The ones they have now are old and faded, and have been there for 10+ years. The pictures are helpful for customers who want to venture out of their comfort zone and try something new. I know I always feel more comfortable ordering something new when I am able to see what it looks like. Otherwise, keep up the great work! read more

Pretty standard but overall subpar experience. I ordered beef and broccoli as part of their lunch special with pork fried rice and two eggrolls. I stated I had a mushroom allergy, which seemed as though the instructions were followed which was nice. Even though there was a delay on my order, when I got it I found it to be hot and fresh, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, it was not a bad quality dish, any part of it. Something seemed lacking though, the eggrolls did not have much going on as far as filling went and were a little dark in color. The beef and broccoli/fried rice meal was good but nothing I would go out of my way to order again. It was moderately salty, but the rice helped tone that down to a degree. They provided all utensils and sauces which was nice but stapled the box shut so I had to completely destroy the Styrofoam box in order to get to my meal, which then was not able to be easily saved due to the staple damage. I probably wouldn't recommend this place to others, though I can admit it was not the worst Chinese food I have had in this area. I understand the restaurant owners have changed. Sunday I ordered beef and broccoli. I had to thrown it away. The quality of the meat was horrible, I couldn't even chew it, so I ate all the broccoli after I scrape the sauce off because somebody just open a bottle and just pour it on. We have tried this place in the past, but it has been a long time so we didn't recall how their food was. Decided to give it another try. It's not too far from our regular go to Chinese takeout. They have some options our regular go to place does not, which made their menu appealing...like the Spicy Tangy Dumpling Szechuan Style and Crispy Lemon Chicken! My husband and I really enjoyed a good majority of our meal. The only sort of negative out of what we chose was the Beef on Stick appetizer, our regular go to place has better. Kang's were not as flavorful, kind of bland and not the best texture. Also, my husband wasn't a huge fan of their Egg Roll. He said the Egg Roll had an after taste he couldn't explain and likes the one from our regular go to better. He did say he liked Kang's Spring Roll better than their Egg Roll. So for three years after arriving in Tampa I tried too many Chinese restaurants to remember searching for at least a decent place. This place exceeded my expectations and the Yelp reviews are accurate. The pot stickers are very good, equal to any place else. Well prepared and tasty. The Happy Family comes with plenty of meats and veggies and a nice brown sauce. The best though is the Mongolian Beef, ordered without spice it equals the best I've ever enjoyed! I just moved to FL. First time ordering from here. Not the best but not the worst Chinese food I have had. Only place that includes hot and sour soup with dinner combo which was good and came with those crunchy fried wonton strips. Chicken on a stick also tasty and 6 of them. Egg roll was blah reminded me of the frozen ones you get from the grocery store that you microwave. I got sesame chicken with pork fried rice. It was ok. I don't think it was sesame chicken as the sauce was a red color! With just some sesame seeds and not sweet. Maybe they used the General sauce but no spice. Normally it's a brown sweet sauce. Rice actually had veggies with pork in it. Not a ton of chicken and rice like other places but enough for lunch the next day. My recent order for two lunch entrees was disappointing and reinforced my hesitation to try Kang's after not eating there for several years due to very poor service and food quality in the past. I was in the area and thought I'd try them again after several years and have a nice lunch and leftovers to freeze for a future meal. I ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken with fried rice and egg roll and beef lo mein with no additional items. The egg roll had been baked and not deep fried so it was mushy and not very flavorful. The sweet and sour sauce was a cup of cough syrup looking red sugary "sauce" that you were to dip the chicken pieces in. The batter on the chicken pieces was gummy and the pork fried rice was dry and not flavorful at all. The lo mein was OK but lacked a distinctive beef lo mein flavor. Just a pile of blah gummy noodles. The lunch entree meals have increased in price to $8.55 plus tax each and I ended up throwing both entrees in the trash and tossing the $19+ away with the personal commitment I will never eat here again. Kang's Garden has been a staple in Tampa Westchase for years, but still delivers mediocre food and service. Go to Publix or Target and buy a frozen PF Chang's entree and cook it yourself and enjoy a better meal in a few minutes of prep. read more

After several failed attempts to find good take out Chinese nearby, we finally decided to order from Kang's Garden. I'll be honest, we hadn't done it because they don't deliver, and sometimes we are lazy and don't want to leave to get dinner. Dumb. Just dumb. We should have gone to Kang's ages ago. We ordered the Krab Rangoon to start, which was really good, we loved the scallion flavor in the filling. We ordered the General Tso's chicken and the Crispy Hot Beef, extra spicy. The extra spicy wasn't all that spicy, but we wished we had gotten that treatment for the chicken as well. Both dishes were terrific. I'm keeping this at four stars, but I'm not sure why we get orange chicken when ordering sesame chicken. It's just orange chicken with the sesame seeds on top. So odd. We probably won't order this again. The crab rangoons remain delicious. They do deliver if you use the grubhub app. read more

(Unprofessional) After taking our food home-20 minutes later- I was finally ready to relax and settle in and yuk.. the chicken taste like complete"ketchup sauce"(suppose to be sesame) the teriyaki chicken sticks were the same way!!! Veggie fried rice contained only onion, peas and carrot slices which seemed to be from Save a lot! Defiantly not fresh... save yourself the hassle and just travel a few miles down to oldsmar .... I ordered the Sesame Chicken with Pork Fried Rice and two egg rolls...instead of one egg roll with choice of soup (dinner combo). The sauce the chicken was basted in tasted like it had a lot of tomato paste in it and it wasn't really that good at all. Definitely not what I expected and kinda threw the whole dish off. Egg roll was VERY mediocre and I wasn't all that excited to have the extra one I ordered in lieu of the soup. Overall the meal was underwhelming and certainly nothing worth writing home about. There's another Chinese restaurant RIGHT NEXT DOOR to my work. However, if I want Chinese I will drive to this place (about 1.5 miles away) from now on. The food (although essentially the same) tasted better and the veggies were fresher, the employees were WAY nicer, and they let me switch out my "lunch combo eggroll" for a wonton instead. I don't like cabbage. It's not going to blow you away, but Kang's has got better food for sure than it's nearest competitor. Bonus points for being two doors down from the fro-yo place. read more

Kang's Garden and China Wok are the two Chinese restaurants serving the Westchase area. Both of them are virtually next to each other, and aside from some slight variations in the menu, you walk into one and might as well be walking into the other. I am guessing that Chinese restaurant architects and interior decorators all belong to the same club and exchange ideas. In any case, the spicy Sechuan dumplings from Kang's Garden are my favorite. Think dumpling with a kick. I'm also a big fan of their deep fryer. The egg rolls and chicken wings come out nice and crispy. They have a couple of tables for you to eat there, but really, do you want to? This is mostly for take out, I have ordered food for one and for twenty, and every time I call, they tell me it will be ready in 15 minutes. It's turned into such a joke that I ask my wife "do you want to eat 15 minutes?" and she automatically knows what I'm talking about. I've ordered all the usual suspects, like Kung Pao Chicken, Sechuan Beef, and oh, the dumplings. I am a dumplings nut. If you are in the Wescthase area and are craving Chinese, give Kang's a call. You can try China Wok also as they are just as good. But if you try the Sechuan dumplings at Kang's and like them, you'll miss them at China Wok. I'm a fan! read more

We got takeout here because it is near my in-laws and we were getting together at their house. We like Chinese, they said they order from here all the time and it was good, so we went with it. We told my inlaws what we wanted and they called it in since they have the menu and number. We picked it up on the way over. One of my go to dishes is szechuan chicken or shrimp. It is usually similar anywhere you get it, lots of veggies, the meat or fish, and a spicy sauce.This was the worst szechuan anything I have had in my entire life. It tasted and looked like they used sweet and sour sauce. They only had broccoli and onions as the veggies and the broccoli seemed like it was just steamed borccoli and added to the dish before they put the sauce on. I always ask for extra chili sauce and they did have that so thankfully I was able to tame down the sweetness. Now since I did not order it, I cannot rule out that it was ordered incorrectly, but everything else was correct so I think it was just not good. I eat a lot of Asian food and spicy food so this was a HUGE disappointment for me. My husband got sweet and sour pork, which was as expected, my husband said it was ok. My inlaws got some pork fried rice and chicken chow mein. Portions were generous so if you like their food then you would be happy. We got a free 2 liter of soda since it was a big order.
