The food her was amazing. We had the Spicy beef bulgogi, Bimbop, gyoza, and a few sushi rolls. Everything was great. I love Korean Banchan so my only disappointment was we only received 3 plates but those three were still amazing and taste fresh and authentic. After living in S. Korea for a year it has been difficult finding a place that compares. This one is pretty close. The ambiance is great for families, dates, and even to meet friends for a drink. I've lived 50 yards from Kanji since it's opened. The most important thing i look for in a food establishment as an experienced server myself for fifteen plus years is consistency. Kanji does it every time. Even though it is an expansion of a larger restaurant ownership, i believe in Kanji and its potential for a longstanding business. The area of Findlay Market and it's surrounding spaces are not always easy spaces to fill. But Kanji continues to improve in its quality service and food. This sushi restaurant is conveniently located by Findlay Market. We were starving and lured in by the 1/2 price sushi. Because it was half-priced, I lowered my expectations a bit. Usually this is just a gimmick to draw customers and the menu is priced to offset it (which, the sushi menu was). The kimchi soup (side portion) was great for a chilly day. However, the broth and soup were quite literally just kimchi and kimchi juice with no other flavor additions. Immediately recognizable by anyone who eats "kimchi soup" at home as a quick comfort but not necessarily what I would serve in a restaurant. The mussel whistle appetizer was made with tasty enough mussels. It's about just what I expected in terms of ingredients and taste. Out of everything tried, I'd only get this one again. The Juanito roll was pretty abysmal. I would only consider this decent if it was ordered from a grocery store. The difference of clear flavor definition from the ingredients (from a decent sushi experience) vs. what we had... the flavors were very muddled together, no brightness, no fresh taste to it. I was pretty disappointed and would strongly not recommend the sushi. My friend ordered the ramen and sushi. She was not impressed with the ramen and also had the same experience with the sushi. The service is friendly and it was fairly busy when we went. However, it's the location that is lifting this place up - I do not recommend going out of your way to visit this sushi restaurant. read more

Kanji OTR is a delicious Korean restaurant offering sushi as well. The Bi Bim Bap is a big portion in a hot stone bowl that continues cooking at the table. The hot tea comes in a cool looking ornamented glass. The miso soup is good and the edamame is adorned with crunchy salt crystals. Josh is usually our server, he's the best and really knows his sushi! The staff there is always smiling and welcoming and makes you feel comfortable. The sushi is excellent! I like the deep friend rolls, the Sunday Morning roll being my favorite. It's crispy with just the right amount tempura batter. I had the Red Devil roll too. Was really looking forward to try out this place because the place and food pictures looked astounding. Finally went on a Saturday afternoon. We were greeted and seated right away by a friendly host. I was a little hesitant because they don't take reservations and the place is not all that big, however, that was not a problem when we arrived. The place itself is welcoming and cute. The decor goes well with the concept, definitely prettier on the inside than the outside. The service was phenomenal! Our waiter was extra friendly and patient since we took a little bit too long to order but she didn't rush it at any point. For sure 5 star service. However, I was a little bit disappointed by the food. We ordered 3 rolls; American psycho, Joe burrows, the wanna be roll. So I'm not from Cincinatti which means I don't really know how the ramen scene is out here. I will say that as a northeast girl, I KNOW good ramen because there are so many options to go to. Originally, I was really surprised seeing that a Korean place sold sushi and ramen which made me nervous but my family insisted. All in all, it wasn't bad. We ordered a couple of appetizers which were delicious-- the shrimp shumai, mussel whistle, Seoul wings, and octopus balls. All were pretty delicious except for the octopus (the texture was a little off). The wings and mussels were literally 12/10 so good!!! For our entrees we ordered various sushi which were fresh and yum, ramen, bulgolgi, and Sun Du Bu Chi Ke. The Sun Du Bu Chi Ke and bulging I were definitely the stars--it's clear that this place should specialize in Korean food but maybe to make itself more marketable it offers more "main stream" Asian dishes like ramen and sushi. The ramen was blehhhh, part of the bleh was the fact that we ordered chicken and received beef but also the noodles were so soft and over cooked. They literally resembled instant ramen. And of course nothings wrong with instant ramen but when you order ramen from a restaurant, that's not really what you're expecting to receive. So again, I think for the area this place is marketable and trendy for sure. I don't get the hype with the ramen but the appetizers and Korean dishes are definitely worth it! read more

Celebratory birthday dinner here a few weeks ago, and it did not disappoint! First off- their drinks are ON POINT- you should absolutely get one, or two! We tried the white snake and the finer bae Started off with Wasabi Shumai-pork dumplings, and the Hamachi Carpaccio. The dumplings were an amazing dance of flavors in your mouth, with a serious kick of spice (you better like wasabi)- 1000% will be ordering again! The hubs ate the Hamachi and said it was amazing! We got 3 of the sushi rolls, the names of which I can't quite recall at this moment, and they were all great! We got delivery from here a couple weeks back. We ordered some sushi - sweet potato roll, the playboy roll and the Thai titanic roll. We all ordered jab chae with beef. All three rolls were delicious! Sweet potato roll is one of my all time favorite and this is the first time we ordered from here so I decided to give it a go. I was not disappointed! Slightly crunchy but sweet, the tempura sweet potato was fried perfectly and delicious alongside the cream cheese and eel sauce. The playboy and Thai titanic were both a little spicy, a lot delicious, and very fresh. The jab chae is why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 and the only reason I did that is because the noodles were over cooked to the point that it was basically a puck of noodles by the time we got it. They had congealed together. The beef was tender and delicious and the flavor profile was spot on. I probably wouldn't order this dish again for delivery but I would try it hot and fresh in the restaurant for sure! All in all, we will be back for the sushi and to try other items on the menu. read more

Kanji was not just a great experience, but a great dining experience. My daughter, niece and I walked into the spacious and clean restaurant, where we were greeted. Our hostess lead us to our table, which was also very clean. Our server was very friendly and answered our questions about the menu. My niece ordered the Sunday Morning Roll and Gyoza (pan-fried dumplings). I had the Sunday Morning Roll and Ramyun. My daughter just had the Ramyun. The flavors were absolutely INCREDIBLE! We sampled my niece's Gyoza, which was crispy on the edges and practically melted in our mouths. The Sunday Morning Roll was lightly fried just enough to allow the Salmon to come through. I love this hip, authentic restaurant across the street from Findlay Market. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable, with bright colors and plants, and is larger than it looks on the outside. The tables were set beautifully when we came in, with all the required plates and "silverware," including chopsticks and mini-dishes for the soy sauce. And I loved the innovativeness of water in a stoppered wine bottle on the table, so you could pour your own. The waitress was pleasant and patient in explaining the options and describing the dishes. Yes, the "half-price sushi" is a gimmick, as all their sushi is always half of what's on the menu, and I don't know why they just don't put the actual permanent prices on there. But they are affordable and expertly made. But I was most appreciative of the Korean food. The fish dish and the sauces were amazing, and represented the Korean palate in an authentic way. This place is alright. We've had takeout once and dined in once for sushi. We didn't feel anything stood out enough to rave about. Our service was average and didn't go above and beyond with any recommendations as I've read other diners have experienced. She also was wearing an AirPod in one ear while serving which was very odd and unprofessional. I will say the atmosphere was cute. Lots of plants and seemed like a fun bar area to come in for a cocktail (we sat in the main dining area). Kanji is a new addition to OTR and took over the space across from Findlay Market. I visited Kanji on a sunny Saturday afternoon to catch up with a friend. We sat at the bar and had a great experience from start to finish. I will start with the decor, which was beautiful and really embodies Korean culture. There is really a Zen Garden feel to Kanji with all the greenery around. For food, we shared the Rainbow Roll, Joe Burrow Roll, and Wanna-Be roll. I also ordered the Seaweed Salad to start. All of the rolls were fresh and delicious. I was delighted to find a Keto roll on the menu as the Wanna-Be comes wrapped in soy paper (no rice). Did I mention the rolls are half-priced? I like Kanji! The location is great and convenient plus the sushi is great. I felt the rolls were a bit heavy on the eel sauce but i still really enjoyed everything. We ordered their bulgogi as well but i didn't snap a picture. I personally found the portion to be adequate but the bottom of the beef burned because it was served in a hot cast iron pan. I went to this restaurant for a birthday dinner and it was good food. I got the dolsot bibimbap which was so delicious. I will say the stone bowl is very hot so that the rice can get crispy but I think I burned my tongue from the hot food maybe ten times. I got a mixed drink that was expensive and tasted a bit like a seltzer but light. One of my friends ordered the mussels and it took so long to come out that we were all done eating and had even gotten out to go boxes and checks! They were nice about it and made her meal free. Love this new sushi spot in the Findlay market perimeter. I have been here several times and the food and drinks never disappoint. It is sometimes busy as the establishment is on the smaller side, so you might end up waiting to get seated if you don't call in advance, but they don't take reservations either. They do their best to accommodate everyone though and the service is slightly slow but they are very friendly and once you place your order the food comes out pretty efficiently. As a vegetarian, I have ordered the sushi here and I've had the japchae and everything has been delicious.
