They also serve some really amazing platters. The price of the food is completely reasonable. The service is perfect for what this place is. When you walk in you're given a paper menu and a pen and you just check off what it is you want. There is never much talking between you and the waitstaff, but they bring your food to you quickly, fill up your drinks as you run low and are always very polite. One time, I was eating by myself and my waiter noticed I was watching Pokémon on my phone, and offered to put the episode I was watching on the big screen. They're just nice here. As for the ambience, I can't help it, I love it. They have a bunch of different anime themed drawings on the wall, like bleach and one piece. It's adorably kitschy.

For our main dishes, I ordered the Chicken Katsu Shoyu Ramen and my husband ordered the Hakata Ramen. Both were delicious! The chicken katsu was crispy and I appreciate that it was on a separate plate so it didn't lose its crunch in the soup. The fried rice and soup were great - flavorful without tasting too salty. We ordered the shrimp tempura udon and the black garlic Ramen. Both dishes were very good and had a lot of flavor. I really liked the black garlic Ramen. These soup dumplings are big, causing the dough to need to be thicker (in comparison to DTF) so that it can hold the weight of the soup. Would skip the fried rice though as it's missing the wok hei. I do find Genji a bit expensive, especially since there is no real servers and the dining/seating area is shared with Whole Foods. Ramen, at least for me and in my humblest of opinions, is affected by the quality of several components. -The richness and depth of flavor of the broth -Texture and way the noodles hold up -appeal of plating -quality of accompaniments -utensils The ramen here is plated nicely, the shoyu egg cooked perfectly and the broth is pretty good - not itoxicasting or addictive like what I have come to expect but pretty good. I give this place extra marks because the execution and eating experience is well above average in thoughtfulness. Your meal comes served on a nice wooden tray, a mini mortar and pestle is provided so that you can grind your own sesame seed, fried garlic and pepper flakes, the soup spoon is a nice size and shallow enough with barely graded circumference of the spoon to prevent chin drips, cuz ummm why waste even one dribble of broth and the chopsticks are nicely ribbed for your eating pleasure. Ahem, no dirty thoughts here, just think about it. Noodles are slippery so the ribbing/design creates the perfect utensil to grab those noodles and transfer with minimum casualty to your anxiously awaiting mouth.
