Genji is located inside the Whole Foods in the Ellisburg Circle Shopping Center. (Side note is I grew up about a mile away from here andI I used to walk or ride my bike to this shopping center.) Anyway, one orders and pays from Genji separately then from Whole Foods. Genji also is credit card only. I have had the ramen a couple of times and it was pretty good but not great. However, it is nice to have this option while in Whole Foods. There are about 5 ramen choices. In addition, Genji offers Bao Buns, Sushi, dumplings and bubble tea. I have had the Bao Buns and their sushi and both again were pretty good. I do find Genji a bit expensive, especially since there is no real servers and the dining/seating area is shared with Whole Foods. There also is a dedicated Ramen shop less the one mile away so I would think their pricing should be more competitive. 3.5 Yelp stars. read more

Best ramen in the area but not many dedicated ramen joints locally. Very friendly front end staff. I had the shoyu ramen and some hibiscus iced tea. Ramen, at least for me and in my humblest of opinions, is affected by the quality of several components. -The richness and depth of flavor of the broth -Texture and way the noodles hold up -appeal of plating -quality of accompaniments -utensils The ramen here is plated nicely, the shoyu egg cooked perfectly and the broth is pretty good - not itoxicasting or addictive like what I have come to expect but pretty good. I give this place extra marks because the execution and eating experience is well above average in thoughtfulness. Your meal comes served on a nice wooden tray, a mini mortar and pestle is provided so that you can grind your own sesame seed, fried garlic and pepper flakes, the soup spoon is a nice size and shallow enough with barely graded circumference of the spoon to prevent chin drips, cuz ummm why waste even one dribble of broth and the chopsticks are nicely ribbed for your eating pleasure. Ahem, no dirty thoughts here, just think about it. Noodles are slippery so the ribbing/design creates the perfect utensil to grab those noodles and transfer with minimum casualty to your anxiously awaiting mouth. All of these factors added up makes Genji Ramen a solid 4 star experience. Don't be skeptical because it is located inside of Whole foods. I ordered the seasonal ramen, the truffle miso ramen. The broth was really good and there were a lot of noodles. The corn in it complemented the flavor really well. The meat was a little dry however. I also got boba tea. It was thai tea with tapioca. I asked them what the favor was like and they said it was just a normal thai tea so I thought nothing of it. Wow, I was wrong. I've had a lot of boba tea in my life but that to be the worst. It tasted like they added some cinnamon in it. It tasted like some kinda of mixture between a pumpkin spice latte and thai tea. It was also room temperature and not cold (the little ice in there melted quick). I couldn't even finish it. I felt bed throwing out that much drink left but I honestly couldn't finish it. Came here cause of the interesting reviews, and also a ramen place inside a Whole Foods? Of course I had to try it! I ordered the original Genji ramen (tonkatsu broth) and the charsu bao. Honestly, I enjoyed the bao MUCH more than the ramen. It had a lot of flavor, sauce, and the pork wasn't dried out. Was it worth almost $4 for one bao? Ehhhh debatable. As for the ramen, I did enjoy the noodles and the soft boiled egg. The broth wasn't as flavorful as I'd hoped and the pork slices not as fatty. I'd agree with other reviewers saying that it was also a little too oily, but not a huge turnoff. I come from North Jersey where there's tons of great ramen places, so my expectations were different. (Can't really expect high quality ramen coming from a place inside a grocery store!) But even so, I did enjoy my meal and may come back here if I'm in the area again. read more

My highly anticipated visit to Genji ended with much disappointment. Maybe my expectations were too high but the reviews I saw on yelp gave me high hopes. This joint seemed to have so much promise. Upon arriving and looking at the menu and interior set up my hopes continued to rise. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I also liked the display of the ramen spices on the counter and the casual ambiance of the dinning space, which was very fitting for a ramen joint. But the instant the broth met my lips, the hopes I had for this place crashed and burned. My husband and I shared the spicy miso and the shoyo ramen. We both agreed that the broth lacked dept in flavor and pretty much contained a greasy and fatty taste. It not only lacked complex flavors from spices you get from a quality bowl of ramen but it also lacked basic flavors from the pork and the garlic from basic prepackaged ramen. I would say some of the packaged ramens you get from the refrigerated section of the Asian grocery store would be better. The topping in the ramen weren't all that unique either. I think the locations has a shot but as of now, I think I'll hold off on the ramen unless I'm in Philly. If I am particularly craving a bowl of Asian soup and not in the mood to travel, I'll stick to a bowl of pho. read more

This is located inside Whole Foods. I somehow missed that when I was looking for a new ramen place in the area, but I need to grab some things at Whole Food anyway so it ended up working out. The ramen here was good. I got the spicy miso ramen. The pork was good, but the flavors were lacking and it was a bit bland. I was glad they had Togarashi to add in for a little extra flavor. My favorite thing about this place is they had fried garlic to add into your ramen. I dont find places that have this often, but love it when I do. It adds so much flavor and a bit of crunch. Best ramen you'll find in South Jersey. The spicy tonkatsu broth is flavorful, not overly salty, and the array/amount of garnishes is about right. I appreciate the true soft-yolk egg and al dente noodles. Very filling meal. Only wish the pork was less bland--needs more marination. Don't forget to top your ramen with the counter spices--fried garlic, white pepper, and chili flakes. Had the opportunity to try the seasonal coconut cream mochis in the case--pleasant! Different from the typical ice cream or bean mochis...each one reminded me of a soft, delicate little pillow as I picked it up. The green tea flavor was our favorite, as the light coconut flavor of the cream and the matcha paired well. Mango was a bit off and fake tasting. Yuzu and chocolate were fine. Trending on my yelp feed, I had to see for myself if the ramen here was bomb. It was a dreary saturday night as i made my way there. I debated between the spicy miso and shoyu. I ended up with the spicy miso. I also ordered a bun---per the cashiers suggestion, i went for the shrimp tempura bun. I took a seat at the bar (there are tables too). The food came out in relatively quick manner. The bun wasn't your traditional bun. The bun itself was a bit dense and was it whole wheat or something? (it was tan in color, not pure white). It was hot and chewy---which i think threw me off a bit since it should be warm and fluffy. The filling came with spicy aioli some greens and 2 small shrimp tempura. This was a miss for me. The flavor was decent, but the execution failed badly. The shrimp tempura was poorly fried and not crispy, the greens inside were wet and just a bit sloppy once placed inside the bun. The flavors were OK but nothing too wow. At $4 for one, i'd pass on it. The spicy miso ramen came. From the smell and color of the broth, i had high hopes. First thing i did was taste the broth and it was pretty dope. It was a touch salty, but nothing too crazy. It comes with a few slices of pork and a soft boiled egg. The ramen had a nice bite to it and not overly done--chewing in a good way. The garnishes of pickled ginger, mushrooms, and seaweed were all nice (standard) touches. This is just me being picky, but the execution of the ramen overall was a disappointment to me. The soft boiled egg was poorly cut and the garnishes haphazardly dispersed. When i think of ramen, i think of Japanese presentation and execution which should be a priority to the chef/cook--again, we aren't in Japan, or Ippudo. Considering the area, the ramen and mazeman here are decent. Prices are a tad pricier and the broth is on the reeeaaaally oily side though. We've tried Genji's Original and Shoyu Tonkatsu Ramen ($11.99) as well as the Bacon & Egg Mazeman ($11.99). Never tried mazeman before, but it was interesting -- almost like pasta. However, even for a small appetite like mine, I wasn't full after eating the mazeman. The ramen comes with a side of sesame seeds in a small mortar and pestle. You can crush them or put them in the ramen sans crushing, which is cool. The hubs really enjoys those things, lol. Tables are slightly tacky/sticky but I guess that's for whole foods in general and not just the ramen bar seating. Baos are 3.99 ea or two for 7. I got the genji ramen original. They were both good. The bao were quite small, especially for the price, and they taste distinctly of 'Asian fusion'. Meaning, they have that sticky sweet Asian sauce fusion places like to have. It's not traditional like at all, but if you're in the mood for it, it's pretty good. Personally I don't think the price is worth it, but I saw some other guy order nothing but like.. 8 baos, so they must be worth it to some people. The ramen was alright. Slightly more solidified egg yolk than runny, but good nonetheless. Pork also cooked slightly past tender, but tasty nonetheless. It's credit card only, and I couldn't really hear what they were saying. I didn't receive a recipe and I think she said $27.XX. I'm only giving it four stars because I have only been there once and consistency matters. Aside from the basic pork, the Truffle butter Miso was bursting with flavor. The vegetable accompaniments in the broth were perfectly selected. And I can happily report they didn't try to garnish it with cilantro and ruin the whole thing. After stopping by the Cherry Hill mall, me and my wife decided to hit up Genji Ramen a little Ramen joint connected through the Whole Foods so it's more or less food court style. We ended up getting the chashu bun and I got the spicy miso and my wife got the original. The chashu was honestly not that great however the Ramen was on point with flavor taste and presentation and Price! My spicy ramen wasn't really spicy to me however I have a high spice tolerance. Nevertheless the place was pretty good and better than I anticipated coming from a pretty much food court style eatery. My only suggestion would be to improve there Chashu. It was just way too bland with not enough marination or seasoning. My wife also enjoyed there sweet green tea drink which she loved. Anyhow you really can't beat this place for the cost and value and anytime I'm in the Cherry Hill area I'll be definitely coming back to Genji Ramen! read more

Tried the spicy miso ramen and I was pleased with the flavor of the broth, which was spicy, nutty, and full of flavor. Topped with a smattering of Asian vegetables and half a soft boiled egg, I delved into the grilled pork belly meat. I was a little disappointed that the meat tasted a bit "gamey". Stumbled here based on a sign they had out when I came for my weekly grocery shopping at Whole Foods. The aroma from the soup takes over as you walk in WF, and it smells delicious. Surprised to have ramen as an offering, I was extremely curious. Ordered the spicy miso ramen based on others' recommendation. Similar to other Yelpers, the overall meal was tasty, however the soup was a bit on the oily side and flavor could be better. I also wasn't a huge fan of the pickled ginger. Overall though, it is a solid meal, they provide enough pork and other complements, along with a soft boiled egg with their $11.99 price tag. I was hoping to have found an alternative to the options in Philadelphia, but I'm not sure this is it, especially the higher price tag. Genji is found within the whole foods of cherry hills, and is oddly enough the ONLY ramen place I can find in pretty much all of south jersey, meaning if you have ramen cravings this is the only place you can go to satisfy them. That being said, the ramen here can be summed up as "whole foods price, without whole foods quality." At a cost of $12+tax (credit card only), you get dry and reheated slices of meat, nearly no toppings at all (beansprouts and a sheet of seaweed), and mediocre noodles that still retained the shape of its packaging, as if they wanted me to think (know) it was from an instant noodle package. The only mildly redeemable part of the ramen is the broth, which was quite flavorful but a tad bit too salty. Overall, the dish does come together to resemble ramen, but one that barely qualifies as ramen that can satiate my ramen cravings. Alas, as the only ramen place available it'll have to do for the time being. read more
