Kanji is the only hibachi restaurant that when I say I want my steak cooked medium rare, I get it medium rare. I pretty much get the same thing every time I order from them. My husband got the spring rolls, I got the crispy wontons & pot stickers all of which were very good. My husband got the steak & shrimp combo and I got the steak. When it got to our house my husband started eating and he said, I'm still amazed that when you say medium rare on the steak it's always medium rare. I mean it's impressive bc you would think after being in a closed container and then having to travel around 15 mins to our house it's still medium rare. They are always so pleasant on the phone too. The only complaint I have is their app (and I'm not sure this is their fault). When you order on the app there is no place to make substitutions. The hibachi is normally served with fried rice but I like white rice with my hibachi & on the app there is no where to change it. So I always have to call it in. Which isn't a big deal but using the app would be nice but bc I can't make a change on the app I'll continue to call in my order. But they are always so nice it's a pleasure talking to them. When I forgot to tell them I wanted my steak medium rare, I called back to tell them. And they said no problem. Then a couple of minutes later they called me back and asked if the shrimp & steak combo was medium rare also. I thought that was great! Here for the first time the other day and got the chicken udon meal. It was probably one of the best food I've eaten in the south. It had very good flavor. We also ordered crab Rangoon's, which were not my favorite. We ordered off-line and it was ready when we got there so fairly quick service. Not a big sushi eater, but they have a lot of choices on the menu . Will definitely come back for more udon. read more

So I really don't like to write bad reviews but unfortunately I don't have much good to say about my dinning experience. There are 2 reasons why this was not a one star review. First I was starved so my tastes may have been curved to the positive based on that and Second there is great potential for this place. I am concerned that the sushi may make me sick based on the quality of the General Tso Chicken which was actually fried nuggets, photo included. The flavor of the sauce lacked heat and seemed to be mixed with some old sauce, nearly like it had two different sauces on it. For sushi, prices were about average for good sushi, but I have definitely had much better for the money. Sad to see a place with this many good reviews perform so poorly. read more

It is okay. I got spicy chicken bowl with fried chicken NUGGETS on it. It tasted like McDonald's chicken nuggets with some spicy sauce which is actually not bad but I'd prefer if it was hand breaded. Flavors are okay, a little bit salty, sweet and the sauce is creamy. The rice flavor is really good, not too salty. My husband got hibachi chicken and steak. The chicken is too much on the sweet side and the steak needs a little more seasoning. It was okay.. The sushi are good and we wished that we just ordered sushi's, though the cut of avocado's and veggies are too thick and so is the rice. I just received an order that I placed at Kanji in Summerville, SC. I ordered the Crispy Combo Sushi rolls (3 rolls baked) and the Hibachi Salmon dinner. The Salmon Dinner was not very good. The salmon was bone dry and the vegetables were limp and mushy. The Crispy Combo Sushi rolls were absolutely terrible. They were inedible. They tasted like mush, bland no flavor. I forced myself to eat a few bytes of each (because of the cost) and then I had to stop before I threw up. Sorry but this is very bad food. I would rather eat sushi from Publix's sushi counter than what I received here. read more

The lady who took the call got the order right but the food in the bag was half right. The other half went into some other bag. Paid for around $70 but got around $52 worth of food. My only experience is with the steak and rice bowl and spicy chicken rice bowl. The later I ordered because I wanted some vegetables in my meal . It was prepared with a scant amount of onion and green pepper . The menu of bowls were sadly lacking vegetables. I'm not sure what dish if any supplies an ample serving of vegetables. The chicken was crispy breaded and looked exactly like a chicken nugget but the flavor was elevated. The spicy bowl was good but would have been better with a mix of Vegetables. The steak bowl was nothing more than possibly 4 -6 ounces of grilled steak and rice. Nothing particularly delightful, delicious or flavorful, it just was . Perhaps Kanji excels in the Sushi and Hibachi. I see it has an overall positive rating. But I was not impressed personally. I feel I paid a premium for fried rice. The establishment was clean and the food came out quickly. Based on the reviews It definitely seems to be a place people tend to love or are disappointed in. Do not order on a Friday. Every time we order, we never get a confirmation that we've placed the order and when we call and ask about it, they say the food is ready, but it has not been picked up. Therefore, our food is sitting and waiting for someone to pick it up, then the staff argue with you saying it's not their fault. very poor ownership of the delivery system that they use. read more

This is my new favorite sushi place! This is not a traditional, large hibachi places. I think the majority of their business is done by delivery and pickup, but there are about 10 places to sit in and eat. My husband and I decided to stay and eat since the place was empty and we wanted a quiet Friday dinner out. I ordered an avocado roll, shrimp tempura roll, and an old bay roll! WOW!! The sushi chef knows what he's doing. The Old Bay roll was deep fried with old bay spice mayo and it was a heavenly experience. My husband got the shrimp and steak hibachi that was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I can't wait to come back and try more choices because they have a full menu to choose from. This was our first time ordering from Kanji on North Main Street. The kids and I had the hibachi steak. The meat could have have been cooked a little longer since it was medium well and the carrots were a little tough. Roll Combo (1 avocado roll, 1 asparagus roll, 1 cucumber roll, $12!). The noodles were SO FRESH- I'm thinking it's made in house? DELICIOUS sauce with black beans that tasted marinated, with broccoli and sesame oil, a little spicy, but out of this world delicious. Most restaurants saturate noodles in soy. Kanji's sauce stands alone. I know I'll go back for more! The rolls were good and a great value. The presentation was nice. The dining area is clean and comfortable. Not a place for big groups, but I'd recommend for catering. The menu is well priced. Located in the same strip as Walmart and Lowe's on North Main. Plenty of parking. The chicken was seasoned well ! Spicy tuna roll was good and flavorful ! The wait was a bit long but I noticed lots of orders to go so that could have been the issue . I ordered the Firecracker and the Old Bay Roll tonight at 7:02PM EST. The Firecracker roll was fried too much for taste. The Old Bay Roll had old brown avocados in it and it had entirely too much Old Bay seasoning, which in itself can be over powering to the pallet. However, I did order the Nemo and Sex on the Beach Roll which both I recommend anyone to get. read more

I am a graduate of Johnson & Wales University and do not give out compliments unless they are deserved . The pics of items in containers still have had food removed already. The food is always taste fresh. The dumplings with the sauce is very good. I love the unique tasting white sauce that they have for the rice bowls. My only complaint is recently they have been skimpy on the amount of shrimp on the rice bowls. With there being no vegetables in the bowls they definitely need a few extra shrimp. When we first started coming here they always were generous with the shrimp but last couple times have been kinda disappointing. Stoped by for some sushi based on Yelp review. Ordered their double signature combo. It came out in two to go trays that were obviously made up well before. I had arrived early 11:25 and was the only person in the place. My guess it was left over from last night. When I took the top off the tray the rolls and sauce had that day old glaze on them. The avocado was turning black. The spicy Mayo and garlic cream sauce had a film over the top of it. The Rainbow roll was inedible. The Sex on the Beach roll only slightly better. I should of said something but didn't I just got up and left it uneaten on the table. As I drove home I felt as if I was going to get sick. I rely on Yelp reviews in my travel to find places to try and eat so I felt I better post a review on this place. read more

We visited mid-day for lunch. It's empty, but they're a new place so that's not surprising. Lunch for three of us with one appetizer was $53. We tried the spring rolls. Presentation was lacking but they tasted great. General Tso's was way too sweet. My husband couldn't even finish it, and my Aunt who has a major sweet tooth couldn't even handle it. Half of it ended up in the trash. Hibachi shrimp and chicken was decent. It was a good sized portion and tasted fine, but needed salt. They don't have salt and pepper shakers, so you have to open a disposable fork package to pull out the paper packet of salt. Pick three classic rolls option was good, but two of the rolls are only half of a normal sized roll. The taste was maybe a 6/10. Not bad, but not great. It would've been nicer to have fresher flavors and less fried options. They don't have fountain drinks -- you have to buy a bottle or there's tea they'll serve in a large styrofoam cup. The decor is nice. It's clean and has a fresh vibe. Overall, this place is ok but for the price, they can do much better with some easy fixes. read more
