It's one of the only places in town that sells takoyaki, it's great. Been here a few times and the service is solid every time.

I thought I would give them another chance. Arriving about 2:30 my wife ordered the ayce lunch which has a chicken teriyaki type dish. She also likes the chicken skewers and get a little ice cream at the end. She doesn't like fish of any kind whatsoever. I ordered the dinner ayce for $30.99. We were told that she can't get the ayce lunch even though it was during lunch hours, if I order the ayce dinner. We would both have to order the ayce dinner. Say what????????? She just ordered a la carte. The place was absolutely empty. The food got worse, the portions smaller. Nigiri loaded up on rice, very little fish on the rolls. My first couple orders of yellowtail nigiri were not fresh at all. A total waste of money. I tried to give them a second chance. They failed miserably. read more

There is a lot going on here. This a big restaurant with lots of seating. It is easy to find in the JoAnn plaza. It is nicely Decorated, clean and comfortable. There is plenty of staff to serve and make sushi. Our waiter was right on top of all the things. He hustled our orders in and got them to us quickly. Overall...I thought the food was fresh and had a good quality. This wasn't the best sushi I have ever had. However is was solid. The menu is very large. The all you can eat option is nice because it allows you to try al lot of different items you might not try. You definitely want to do this with a group of people. read more

I have been wanting to try this place since it opened but waited until the fanfare wore off. I had errands to run in FTW & figured Tuesday at 2pm would be the perfect time to grab lunch. Our server was very attentive & explained everything. $18.99 for the lunch menu. I had to try the crab rangoon. It was sweet yet crabby, fresh & delicious. More crème cheese needed! I ordered the Las Vegas Roll. It came fresh & hot. It was sliced thinner than I had expected. Flavor was good. Hubby ordered the hibachi steak & shrimp. Smaller portion size was delivered to our table. Tasty. I wanted to split another roll with hubby and try the Udon. I ordered the Indiana. It was OK. I'd refrain from that one too. The udon was VERY salty. Veggies super fresh. I wouldn't order again. All and all it is a made to order buffet option (kudos to showing us it was cheaper to have buffet vs one shrimp & steak hibachi). Stopped by for lunch and it was wonderful! All you can eat is a great deal and you can order anything off the menu. The clear soup is delicious and flavorful. Sushi is so fresh! It's a sushi buffet serving buffet sushi. Most of the feesh is about Paradise Buffet level or slightly worse. Paradise Buffet is a Chinese buffet at like $16. This place is a specialized sushi buffet at like $27 T_T (it's Chinese too btw, they just hide it a tiiiiiiny bit better). And THAT's not counting the sashimi surcharge for basically absolutely nothing. It's like they charge $1 extra for the back-breaking toil of taking a piece of feesh off the nigiri rice that otherwise comes for "free". Galbi is trash cut alla Uniq except they also only give you the bones. The way they serve food is more like they're feeding dogs rather than humans. Takoyaki is offensively small with a couple torn bonito flakes half-heartedly thrown atop for better looks. Most of everything comes in offensively small dishes per order and the only thing that had any real flavor was the crab rangoon (a Chinese takeout staple!). The squid salad was good too but I'm also pretty sure that this is the same stuff from Kroger. The hibachi rice was okay, kinda bog standard and not better or worse than anywhere else. Compared to everything else though, it was a rather good choice. TL;DR If you really have to splurge out $30+ for this, know what you're getting into and stick with the takeout staples, rather than doing sushi. Better yet, make the trip to Paradise and get some sushi from there. P.S. For a place called "Kanpai" Sushi, they don't seem to have a sake menu. Tells you all you need to know. read more

Recently, we had friends from out of town that came in for dinner and they were craving and all you can eat sushi option so we decided to head to the only one in Fort Wayne. I was surprised to see the price increase from when it first opened. Dinner buffet was $30.99. This meant that unfortunately my 12 year-old was also an adult price. I was surprised at the menu seem to be a little bit more simplified than when we first went there or at least the way that they laid out the menu on the plastic placard. Although there are many options for sushi, there are some very strange combinations that were not good tasting. One example would be the softshell crab roll. It had some sort of hard lettuce or green, leafy vegetable. This is not the way. It's typically done. Although the food was lackluster based on the quality to price ratio, I found that the service was super friendly. Food came relatively quickly after ordering it. Each round a customer can order five different items. There seems to be no limit to it, which is nice. My wife who was jetlagged was able to order just a single roll and she did not really want to eat, which was nice that everybody at the table had to do that all you can eat option. In the end, my recent experience has been a slight disappointment, but others may still like the all you can eat option, which is lacking in Fort Wayne. read more

My friend and I tried this place for lunch today. For $16.99, you can eat as much as you want from the menu. The food quality was excellent and super fresh! I really liked that this place has plenty of seating and great ambient lighting. Our server did a fantastic job, even though the restaurant was quite busy. This is probably one of my new favorite spots in Fort Wayne. So this place was awesome! Monday- Friday 11-3 is lunch, it's $16.99/ person. You can order anything off the menu for that price. I recommend going with friends so you can each order something and try a bit of everyone's. I enjoyed every roll we had. Most of them say spicy but they are not spicy, don't let that intimidate you. I 100% suggest everyone order the Sweet Mango at the beginning of the meal and use as a palate cleanser. It's so fresh and delicious! The soups were very tasty! I enjoyed the fried calamari, it came in sticks, was very tender. The Seaweed salad was good, but i wasn't a fan of the texture of the way it's cut. The fried ice cream crust is very thick, so we just ate the ice cream out of the middle. Overall we will definitely return and try more! read more

Their sushi and appetizers are great but their service is sub par. I wish they would better train their staff on how to treat their guests. That being said, the food came out fairly slow. The presentation is nice however. read more

My New Favorite Restaurant in Fort Wayne! The location is ideal. Lots of parking and seating are available. Besides the Mexican guy who brought us our food, who was not particularly friendly and failed to smile, the remainder of our visit was impeccable. We came for lunch and took advantage of the all-you-can-eat option for $18.99. The price was excellent, considering the amazing selection of menu items available, excluding beverages. The menu was huge with both sides to choose from. The environment was amazing with beautiful sceneries. The sake was exceptional, and the beer prices were reasonable. Our waiter, Nick, provided outstanding service throughout our meal. He was consistently friendly, attentive, and remarkably able to recall our orders with ease for all four of us the entire time. The food was served hot, fresh, and delicious. The sushi was among the best I have ever had. Every dish we ordered was delicious. I'm kinda of picky but the spring roll/ sauce and edamame were the best things I tried. the gyoza were alright. Soba noodles/ hibachi chicken, fried rice, avocado roll, veggies (hard, barely cooked), were all awful! Our bill was $80 for 2 adults, while it buffet style-ish, I left feeling like I didn't really have a dinner meal yet I payed for it. We tried this after hearing about the all you can eat sushi option from a friend. We have been a few places similar when traveling and they have been good. However, save your money and go elsewhere if you are looking for quality sushi and food. The salad was wilted and covered in water mixed with dressing. The sushi that should have been cold was warm and overall not good. I would not recommend this place if you actually like good sushi. Such a great experience. Such a big place with lots of seating and tons of booth options! I loved how lit up it was. Very fun and vibrant. Our server was sooooo wonderful. His name was Zane! So bubbly and happy to be there! He was quite busy but always made sure to check on us and make everything coming out ok. We did the all you can eat dinner. Everything so delicious. Came here because the reviews were good, but I think the fact that it's has an all you can eat buffet is what drives it. Quantity evidently covers a lot of problems. I don't do buffets but thought I'd give it a try and order from the menu. Portions are small. Gyoza came with less dumplings than advertised. Sushi was ok, but hibachi came out cold. Like out of the cooler cold. Fried rice was flavorless. The waiter Isaac was friendly and apologetic, but manager barely seemed to care. Too expensive even tho it's cheaper than most places. Ya know...we all get that prices need to be raised, and maybe you started out too low, but when you take away what people enjoyed for lunch as the sole reason for going, why bother going anymore. read more

Talk about a raw deal... As a matter of fact, the entire menu is NOT all you can eat for $26.99. Be forewarned. As I learned today, sashimi has a separate pricing structure and if sashimi is all that you eat you'll be charged a la carte prices ($4.99 per three pieces). Sashimi can be discounted to 50 cents apiece but only if you're ordering it in addition to your dinner, which must consist of other items. As a diabetic I cannot eat white rice as it sends my blood sugar into the stratosphere, which is why I ordered sashimi. I explained this to my server when I was ordering and he tried to steer me toward noodle dishes instead, also a no-no for a diabetic, which I tried to explain. I don't think he understood. When my server handed me the $50+ bill, he told me that if I'd ordered nigiri instead I could have gotten the exact same thing as my sashimi order, plus it would have come strapped to balls of rice, and I could have gotten the all-you-can-eat price. I pointed out that the restaurant has very explicit signs all over the place and on the menu stating that it abhors food waste and will add $5 per plate to your bill for any uneaten rice. In fact, the menu states "must eat rice" at the top of the nigiri section. And once again I explained that my diet cannot include white rice. I cannot fault Kan Pai for food or atmosphere. They were excellent. But it occurs to me that they want customers to load up on rice, which is cheap, so as not to consume a lot of fish, which is expensive. That would explain their policy and also all of the carping about food waste. To the server's credit, he had a confab with other staff and they evidently took pity on me as a first-time customer and cut about $5 off my bill. They were certainly gracious enough, but I have a feeling that in their native Japan diabetes is unheard of. read more

We stopped by for lunch, New Year's Eve. The ambiance was WOW. When you walk in you are transported to a Japanese courtyard. Love the cherry blossoms. The food was excellent. Everything was fresh, delicious and beautiful. The eel was beyond perfect. Each roll had a unique flavor and highlighted the featured fish. They have a variety, soups, salads, appetizers, raw and cooked rolls, nigiri, hibachi, teriyaki, noodles and fried Ice cream for desert. This is the first buffet we have been to where you order each dish and your server brings it to you. It is a smart way to do sushi. The lunch price is great. The manager took time to greet us. Everyone was very friendly. Our server Zane was very attentive and helpful. I definitely recommend. If you enjoy sushi, you need to go to Kanpai Sushi, Fort Wayne. read more

When you think of an all you can eat place you typically don't think of Sushi because it is really expensive. However, not the case with Kanpai Sushi as you can get all you can eat for $26.99 and that's for dinner. Now when they give you the menu I had to ask what's included and they said yes.. the ENTIRE menu is all you can eat. From amazing sashimi and rolls to even main dishes and soups (and TBH their miso is some of the most amazing that I have ever had in my LIFE). And this doesn't even go into the decor of the place as it looks as if you stepped into a small village in Japan. The staff are courteous and very attentive as we had gotten some of our first orders within minutes of ordering. But do yourself a favor.. come hungry because you don't want to deprive yourself of some of the amazing food that Kanpai Sushi has to offer. read more
